ABAP Forum Points - A little messed up

Looks like everyone in the ABAP forum has lost points. Not sure about the other forums. Anyone else see a problem? Can this be corrected?
Regards,
Rich Heilman

Hi Guys,
we all might have noticed the problems with the pointing system weeks ago. You could even take away more points then giving! (see thread: points sytem screwup)
I believe though, that most of the time this bug was for the benefit of the rewarded users as they got the points doubled. Me and Detlev wrote a mail to Mark to inform him of this situation and he promised to get this issue fixed and at a later time to synchronize the points, so that one can get only from 0 to 10 points on ONE single answer.
I suppose that this synchronization was now done?!? (My points situation (lost) is pretty aligned with this assumption.)
Hope this helps,
Robert

• I am new to this forum and a little confused.

Hello. I am new to this forum and a little confused already.
I want to get a sound card that will support asio drivers and the SB Audigy 2 ZS is looking good. It supports asio drivers. My question is what is the difference from a recording point of view between the X-FI extreme and the SB Audigy 2ZS. As far as I can see, nothing. Also where do you draw the line between asio supported cards and non asio cards? The most important aspect of a recording card that works/plays well is the asio drivers. Everything else is obviously related to the more money you spend the higher the sampling rates and maybe even DSP effects.
Anyway the rig I use is used for playing music, gaming and making home DVD.s. The sound quality of a recorded analogue video needs to well recorded and thats where the SB Audigy 2ZS or X-FI Extreme come in.
Regards
Peter.

"Audigy 2 Zs" and "Audigy 4 Pro"
- ASIO 2.0 drivers for low latency (as low as 2ms) multi-track playback and recording at 16-bit/48kHz or 24-bit/96kHz-.
"X-Fi"'s
- ASIO 2.0 support with direct monitoring at 16 and 24-bit at sample rates of 44.1/48/88.22 and 96kHz.
So, if you record only DVD quality (24-bit/96 kHz) then there are not big differences.

• Scroll Pages in TableView of Forum Points

Hey SDN Team,
I am trying to see all my posted threads under My Reward Point->Forum Points->scroll button on bottom to move pages is not active?

I remember few months back it was working fine. Is it some bug in system?
Thanks,
KJ

By doing a little investigating, I discovered that your forum points in 2006 seemed to start around 8/26/2006. It was possible to do a query for points in date range.
It's a little tedious, but by giving date ranges you can bring up your 2006 results.

• No information under link "Forum points" anymore

Hello,
formerly I saw under the link "forum points" in the thread contribution of a SDN member, which forum items were rewarded of this author. But this isn't working anymore. Meanwhile I only see all contributions of this member. I would like to know why the functionality "Forum points" was cancelled allthough it was very interesting to know which rewarded contributions a certain author has to offer?
Regards
Martin Lehmann

If you are referring to viewing the users "contributions" when you click that link - each user has to "select" to show that in their user profile.

• Why do paid Apple employees earn forum points & rankings?

Why do paid Apple employees earn forum points & rankings? I thought the points system was "to increase community participation". Giving points to people paid to be here and putting them in the rankings runs counter to that intent.

Hi, Jason -
No, I'm talking about the people with the silver Apple badges whose profiles say they're Apple employees.
At least some of them are paid to be in here, maybe others aren't and just come in here to be helpful on their own time, I guess I don't know. If you're paid, you don't need encouragement.
The only Apple employees who are paid to be here as their primary job function are the Hosts, the ones who display the purple apple badge.
Other Apple employees may post here. Usually it is on their own time, at which time they may or may not identify themselves as being an Apple Employee - if they do, they then display the silver apple badge.
On rare occasions Apple employees may post in an official capacity in order to address a specific need, but (historically, at least) this does not occur on a regular basis.
Yikes, I'd assume a company employee could provide useful info on the company's products. If an Apple employee doesn't give useful info...I hope that's someone who isn't working at Apple for long.
Apple has a broad and diverse enough product line that no one employee can possibly know it all.
Since most of the time a person who is identified as an Apple employee is posting on their own time, I see nothing wrong with thanking them the same way anyone else would be thanked.

• SDN Forum points break up by forum & forum categories

Hi,
Didn't find any reference to this but would it be possible to add functionlity to break up forum points by forum categories, and then by forum themselves ? (I know I could export all the contributions to Excel, filter by Area and add subtotals but...) ;)
Trying not to be too narcissist... could you add the position in each of the relevant forum... ?
Best regards,
Guillaume

Hi Guillaume,
We are not very happy on how it is displayed where your points are comming from. There is a big project in the near future to redo the Business Card and that will also bring an overhaul to this area. Your suggestion is sound and we will see what we can do then.
You need a bit of patience there, Mark.

• 555 forum points ...

Hi SDNers,
Just realized that I have 555 forum points.
Here an SDN Trivia question:
10 points for the one who can explain how I can have uneven number of forum points when all we are giving out are 10, 6 or 2 points?
As this is the Other SDN Qestions section this is not even off topic
All the best, Mark.

hi,
i have got 145 pts because I once got 1 point for my initial posting. this said, actually everyone who ever posted should have an odd number of forum points. I checked this and found people with an even number of points. there are two possibilities for this a) they didn't get their initial point or b) there are other ocassions where you get an odd number of extra points.
instead of receiving 10 points for this great explanation I'd prefer to get something like 3.1415926 points if possible. this would really be a unique gratification.
regards,
anton

• Forum Points -- Total Contibution Points can u please clarify ?

Hi friends ,
I heard as if we get 250 points we will get a T - Shirt . This 250 points is Total Contribution Points or Forum Points ?
Because both is variying. Total contribution points includes points for assigning points. But, forum points is for answring , am i right ?
If we get Total contribution points can we claim T-Shirt ? ( or ) Forum Points?

• About Forum Points

I think forum points means the points which we are getting on these forums only (if i am not wrong). But i saw some people with unmatched forum points with their posts for example for 13 total posts 230 forum points and 32 posts 486 forum points.
here are they include the articles and wiki's points also. or we can able to reduce/delete our number of posts. i noticed this in a very few members . How this came possible (for max 32*10=320 but its 486) ?
or is there any other way to change our name along with our points with 'zero' posts?
regards
Mahesh

That happens when they previously had an account with a different login-id and upon creation of a new one, requested the SCN team to "merge" both accounts. In the merging process sometimes the number of posts dont get migrated to the new one. Sometimes it does. And sometimes it takes time to do it.

• What the **** is going on in the ABAP forums?!

I've been away from SDN for a few months due to work comitments and am only just starting to browse regularly again...
I can't believe how bad the standard of questions and answers in the ABAP-General forum has got. I thought it was as bad as it could get but i was wrong. Simple, repetitive questions. Massive cut and paste answers that often have nothing to do with the question. Everyone saying Please reward with points often after supplying a wrong/inacurate/irrelevant answer. Constant streams of interview questions. Same answers being copied and pasted again and again by different people... The problems go on and on and we've seen them all before, yet it still seems like hardly anything is being done about it.
Seriously, what is the point?! I know the moderators must be hard pushed to manage it all but isn't there a way to clean it up a bit please? It's painful to browse at the moment.
As far as I'm concerned, the forums are a bit of a waste of time and space at the moment as the content is so watered down with rubbish unless you are about to write your first ABAP program they are of no use to anyone.
Gareth.

I'm glad this topic still gets a lot of interest and there are still people on here who are actually bothered.
Rob, I think your answer is my favourite and is certainly the one my colleagues and I come up with the most.
As pointed out, there will always be people who are too lazy/uneducated/short of time/whatever to do their own job or to research a problem they are having. Nothing we can do will ever make that go away. The issue is how we react and deal with it.
I don't believe charging for SDN is the answer - a lot of people will move back to SAPFans.com and/or other sites and as someone else has said, people will feel they have the right to post the rubbish if they are paying.
We've all been over this topic numerous times and on each occaision a common output is everyone wants to see more and stricter moderation. I honestly believe a moderating approach similar to SAPFans.com would help a great deal in cutting out the root cause - things like people asking for points and people posting CV's are symptoms or effects of the fact original posters are allowed to ask stupid questions or ask for fake resumes. Things like using "Hi" in the subject of a message or not bothering to search before asking what regular SDN contributors/readers know is a common question can all be cut out with simple moderation.
So we come back to moderation of the forums - something we've gone over time and time before.
Blag, I can see you have been sorely missed in the forums - you were still very active last time I was on regularly and I can see a big difference between then and now. Although you may feel like it is an uphill struggle you were obviously making a big difference. It's a shame there aren't more of you
Nick, I've just seen your response whilst writing this and you raise an interesting point I've not considered before about managers having an input in the use of SDN. I think the problem here is that (certainly in my opinion) the majority of the noise appears to originate from off-shored resource which typically will be quite removed from their customer/manager/employer. In some ways I've always considered the explosion of the IT market in India for example to be working against itself - there appears to be more jobs that suitably qualified workers leading to the state we have now of fake CV's and people in jobs who don't know what they are doing. I'm guessing management in this scenario will be happier to have a team of people producing all of their work with SDN's help rather than a team of fully certified, heavily experienced consultants who are too expensive to obtain any off-shoring work...
I also agree that removing the points system won't necessarily solve all of the perceived problems - again I think points abuse is something else stricter moderation could help to remove.
Anyway, before I really get on my soapbox I'm going to stop rambling
Gareth.
