Dear gurus,
In an attempt to close some threads neglected by the OP's this year and achieve SDN's goals with regards to points (see the Welcome thread about the UN food program and other donations made by SAP based on annual contributions) I will be combing through selected threads from the current year and closing them as moderator.
It will be impossible to do a perfect and complete job of this, but I will try my best to be fair and concentrate on those who have contributed valueable inputs of information but not been recognized appropriately.
Feel welcome to post links to threads which you feel are candidates for me to take a look into, or even add to the "FAQ & Memorable threads" sticky. You can also contact me via my Business Card details.
Also please close your own threads and do not dump them all to the top again unless there is a good reason to comment further (the comment field is not mandatory!)

SDN PI Forum in "Santa" mode for next 5 days

In spite of being a bit late about it, I would still try to spend some time with the neglected threads on
PI forums and close them before the commencement of the New Year. The work could be questionable but
I would try to be as fair as possible.
Once I saw my colleague (working in Enterprise Portal) post a query on SDN....he wrote the query and clicked Post Message....he was not allowed to do so....warning message was displayed you have more than 10 open threads
Now instead of the moderators initiating a force-closure of the threads, cant we implement a similar logic for Process Integration Forum? This may ensure that the thread-owner closes it giving a proper solution.

Just to clarify, this logic is already in place for all the Forums since some time and it has served its purpose to some extent. Even then you might have already noticed lot of ignored threads. It's not always that a solution seeker log on to SDN just for assigning the points and closing the threads.
If you have noticed, the aim of this thread doesn't really target all those who have their questions open, rather those who have contributed genuinely but couldn't get into the Active Contributors list because of few lazy/extremely busy posters.

ABAP General forum - 22 pages of posts in one day - wtf ?

I don't have a project right now, so I was perusing the ABAP forum for whatever looked interesting.
I noticed 22 pages of posts just today 11 Feb. With 15 posts per page that's 330 post/replies in one day!
WTF is up with that, a little too crazy isn't it ?

The turnover in the ABAP Development forums has always been fast (hence also the temptation to duplicate post, instead of following up with more infos from having made some headway on your own while waiting for answers)...
Since a few days, there has been a steady increase and it is very busy at the moment.
I am not sure what the equilibrium thread-per-minute rate is before people reach the search-first-coeffecient, but it is approaching hopefully.
I am trying to look on the bright side of it...

I find this procedure objectionable for three reasons:
The community on SDN has failed to achieve its goals. But achieved they must be!! So now the leaders of said community will force the accomplishment of what the community could or would not ... by expressing the approval of the site owner over the community. How does that sound in your ears?
I always understood these forums to be exchange platforms for experts. I cannot see where judgment of 'contributed valueable inputs of information but not been recognized appropriately' comes into that picture. That sounds more like a consolation gift on a beauty contest.
Putting a 'Santa' - cloak around it only makes the whole affair even more dubious.
Personally, I feel offended.

ETA: yet another argument: by extending your role from 'moderator' to 'jury' you are crossing an invisible border. future searchers will no longer know who closed/assigned rewards to a thread: was it the OP or one of the "staff"? that leaves at least a trace of doubt.

Well, apparently its because my dad added Data and I can't even Attempt to make a reservation because data was added to my account... and can't do anything until my next billing cycle this is a bunch of (removed)

Anyone tried the next-day-retail-pickup option for an iPhone 5?

Has anyone here tried the next-day-retail-pickup option for an iPhone 5?
Has anyone tried it - but still not gotten one?
Right now I have my iPhone 5 ordered online through Apple.   It's not expected for a few more weeks, alas.
Two days after I placed that order , Apple announced that you could order online after 10pm for next day pickup at a retail store.
I called Apple to ask if I could simply "convert" my existing order to a next day pickup.
I was told that I'd have to (1) cancel the online order (2) maybe wait a day for my upgrade-pricing eligibility to reset and THEN (3) place the order online after 10pm.
BUT - she also added that even the next-day-pickup orders were subject to stores' inventory.
So, I called my local store to ask about availability.   Rather than telling me anything about their current inventory, the gal there just repeated that I should order online after 10pm.
Of course, the entire point of my doing this would be to reduce my wait time (not roll the dice on MAYBE reducing my wait time.)
Yet apparently my only option is to "step out of line" with my existing online order before I can even see how long the line is for in-store pickup.
If it turns out I'll have to keep trying again every night after 10pm in the HOPE that maybe this time there'll be an iPhone 5 available for the next day, then I go from my current 2-3 week wait to a god-only-knows-how-long wait, with nightly online order attempts.
There's no way for me to adequately express my distaste for this catch-22 without using verboten language.
If anyone has an idea how I can TRY the next-day-pickup trick WITHOUT first squandering the 2 weeks I've already been in the online queue - please let me know.

I'm going to phone local store and ask how many iphones are sold each day.

When will a Forum "Space" be Created for the DROID 4?

When will a Community Forum "Space" be created for the DROID 4? We are currently forced to post under either Android or the sub-section DROID / DROID 2, which is not working for us.

Thanks for the response Ann. But respectfully, I -- and many other owners -- disagree. It causes much confusion and as a result many have posted their inquiries to the general Android Space or others. I have been experiencing several issues with my device lately, and when I first logged-in to the Verizon Community I spent an hour and a half searching for the DROID 4 Space, thinking that I was doing something wrong, searching in the wrong place, &c, &c. I have since read that many other DROID 4 owners have had that same experience before finally realizing that there IS no DROID 4 Space.
However, as you stated, the DROID 4 is somewhat similar to the DROID 2 (my previous two devices were DROID 2 GLOBALs) and as such in my opinion it would be a perfectly acceptable solution for the DROID 4 to be added to what is currently the DROID / DROID 2 Space if creation of a Space of its own is not deemed necessary by the Verizon Community Managers and Leaders. Doing so would provide much needed clarity for people in need of assistance to know exactly where to post their threads and requests for assistance sans all of the above confusion, and a far more positive Customer Service experience.

Dark Mode for the finder/safari/mail/etc

I just upgraded to Yosemite and I am very pleased to see the addition of dark mode for the menu and dock. This such a basic feature that I've needed since I started using macs ten years ago.
I often use my macbook and ios devices in low light environments for work. Venues, theaters, bars, etc. Even on the lowest brightness the screen is distracting to others and compromises my night vision, not to mention causes additional eye strain. More and more these days, IOS and OS X devices are used by artists on stage and by sound and lighting engineers off stage. It's a major bummer when you open your finder and and a blinding white light hits you.
For dark mode to be useful it needs to address more than just the dock and menu bar. Ideally, it would invert colors entirely EXCEPT for images, videos, flash, etc. I would settle for this only being available in the finder and safari. I'm aware that I can invert all colors already, but its annoying that I have to view pictures and everything else in negative as well.
It's a bit frustrating that this was an option in the last version of windows I used ten years ago but has been impossible in OS X. I have every confidence that Apple can make this possible, and I'd really appreciate it.

Are there blending modes for the layers?

Like in Photoshop, is it possible to take on shape and blend (multiply, difference, soft light, etc.)the layers? I can't seem to locate it in Illustrator.

Transparency panel.
Layers in Illustrator don't mean the same as Layers in Photoshop. Think of Illustrator's Layers as equal to Photoshop's Layer Groups (folders in the Layers panel), with each object on an Illustrator equivalent to a Layer in Photoshop. You can change the Transparency Blend Mode of any object on a layer independent of the layer itself. If you click on the circle to the right of a Layer's name you can target that layer and change the entire Transparency Blend Mode for the Layer.
