Purpose
The SAP Query application is used to create lists not already contained in the SAP standard system. It has been designed for users with little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language ABAP. SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reporting programs and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.
Features
SAP Query's range of functions corresponds to the classical reporting functions available in the system. Requirements in this area such as list, statistic, or ranked list creation can be met using queries.
All the data required by users for their lists can be selected from any SAP table created by the customer.
To define a report, you first have to enter individual texts, such as titles, and select the fields and options which determine the report layout. Then you can edit list display in WYSIWYG mode whenever you want using drag and drop and the other toolbox functions available.
ABAP Query, as far as I Believe, is the use of select statements in the ABAP Programming. This needs a knowledge of Open SQL commands like Select,UPdtae, Modify etc. This has to be done only by someone who has a little bit of ABAP experience.
To sum up, SAP queries are readymade programs given by SAP, which the user can use making slight modification like the slection texts, the tables from which the data is to be retrieved and the format in which the data is to be displayed.ABAP queries become imperative when there is no such SAP query existing and also when there is a lot of customizing involved to use a SAP Query directly.

ABAP Reports and SAP Query

Hi Experts,
I have question regarding ABAP Reports, SAP Query, and Transaction with variant. How are we securing one the above reports that we assign them through pfcg. We can secure custom program by custom transaction or define the auth group in S_PROGRAM auth object but in this case we have to assign SA38 in production. is that correct?
Please help me understand difference between the ABAP reports and SAP query. Is the ABAP reports same as Program or they are different.

Hi,
1) End user security (role matrix coordinate with process team)
This role Matrix design is most important where we can put restrictions and use SoD.
2) Secure Table (by auth group)
Table TDDAT and use of transaction se54 for security tables to right auth Groups. Secure s_tabu_dis, s_tabu_cli.
3) Secure program (as you said ABAP reports are referred to Program)
Use of table TPGP and program RSCSAUTH for assignment of groups to Program. SA38 Running of SA38 requires a minimum SUBMIT in user Action. A user having SA38 is dangerous as he/she is now enabled to run any report. Hence protection in Auth Group is needed. Verify each and every program is having authority check statement and Auth Group or not before assigning sa38. As you mentioned its best to avoid SA38 and create CUSTOM TXN for each report.
(We should also SECURE S_DEVELOP in Production properly along with ur points. Please Note).
4) Secure some batch jobs roles for batch job
Secure by s_btch* objects and less access to se36.
5) Create support roles for cutover activity during Go-live
That is always needed. Go ahead.
6) Emergency roles & IT roles for support
This is very much needed as a role of Mitigation and Fire Fighting for Temporary access. Ensure to enable ur audit parameters in RZ10 (rsau* sm20,RSLG* for sm21). Give emergency access but enable audit via sm19 and get audit reports from sm20 and sm21 immediately after the use of emergency access.
There are also other auth objects we need to be care ful which is a long list and hope every body ensures that (s_cts,a_admi,s_trans, tables ssm_cust, prgn,t000) etc and a host of others. Besh wishes. Let us know if any issue.

The SAP Query comprises five components: Queries, InfoSet Query, InfoSets, User Groups and Translation/Query.
Classic reporting- the creation of lists, statistics and ranked lists- are covered by the InfoSet Query and Queries components. Other components range of functions cover the maintenance of InfoSets, the administration of user groups and also the translation of texts created in the SAP Query.
All data required by a user for a report can be read from various tables.
To define a report, you first have to enter individual texts, such as titles, and select the fields and options which determine the report layout. In the WYSIWYG mode, you can edit the lists using Drag & Drop and various toolbars.
AD Hoc Query
Definition
A Web item that enables you to create and change queries in a Web application on an ad-hoc basis.
Use
You can use the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item in the Web Application Designer to structure Web applications in which you create or change queries. The Web item is as a tool for designing ad-hoc queries in a Web environment.
In particular it enables you to:
·        Create queries by assigning characteristics from an InfoProvider to rows, columns, filters, and free characteristics, and including key figures from the InfoProvider in the key figure structure of the query.
·        Restrict or filter key figures and characteristics
·        Use predefined key figure structures and restricted or calculated key figures in the query
·        Set or change query properties and key figure/characteristic properties in the query
·        Create or change conditions and exceptions
When compared with the BEx Query Designer, the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item has the following restrictions when creating or changing queries:
·        You cannot integrate variables into the query directly.
However, you can use variables in reusable structures, or restricted or calculate key figures, which are used in the Ad-hoc Query Designer
·        The query can contain only one structure. This structure has to be the key figure structure and be in the rows or columns of the query.
-        You cannot use key figures or key figure structures in the filter.
-        You cannot define exception cells, since this requires two structures.
You cannot create the following objects using the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item:
-         Reusable structures
-         Reusable restricted key figures
-         Reusable calculated key figures
-        Local calculated key figures
You can create local, restricted key figures using the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item.
You can edit existing queries in the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item, if the queries adhere to the restrictions laid out above The Ad-hoc Query Designer checks these requirements when loading a query. If the query is too complex, the query can be loaded into the Ad-hoc Query Designer but you cannot change it there. You then receive the appropriate message. You can still check and execute the query.
"Ad Hoc" is a Latin phrase which means "for this purpose" and in today's parlance generally means "on the fly," or "spontaneously."
An ad hoc query is a query that is run at the spur of the moment, and generally is never saved to run again. These queries are run using a SQL statement created by a tool or an administrator. So therefore, such a query is one that might suit a situation which is only there for the moment and later on will become irrelevant.
As queries become more complex, it can be difficult to write them correctly ad-hoc. To help with this, one can instead write the knowledge needed for queries as business rules in English, and then use a system called "Internet Business Logic" to automatically generate and run the SQL queries. One can then get explanations of the results, in English, at the business level.

Creating t.code for ABAP query and Transport it TO Production and run it .

The requirement is that i want to create tcode for abap query and that query can be regenearted ,
in case of regeneration programe name i got answer programame name will be change, i created and modified query but i saw the same programe name ,,, may be it changed when it is trasnported if so then what ??
and also pls give me solution for asiging tcode for query which is going to be regenerated.

Dear Farukh,
As we know,
Query is created in Production server and a corresponding program is generated by System.
What we have to do is just to assign the program to the desired transaction code in Development server and transport it.
If you have any doubts please let me know.

Ad hoc query and Sap query

What are Ad hod query and sap query? Why we use these two?

in order to get the reports as per the client requiremnt
we use the queries
and the the data from these queries will be taken form PNP logical data based tables
EX: in the standrad report for Absences
the client may ask for
PERNR NAME position Department Absence type start date Endate
in the standrad report u can get the PERNR and Absence type and start date and end date
but u cannot get position and department
so we use Queries we select the feidls from various reports and get a farmot as per the client reqiremnt

u can alsoc check SQVI

Hi farukh,
1. If any query is re-generatred,
   then some MANUAL INTERVENTION
   is absolutely required.
2. Hence, what we prefer is this :
   1. Generate first query.
   2. Copy the code to a Z Program
   3. Attach tcode to THIS z program.
   4. Transport
3. Now,
whener the query is generated again,
   AGAIN COPY THE CODE
TO OUR Z PROGRAM (2ND STEP ABOVE)
                    (which has already been created)
AND TRANSPORT JUST THIS Z PROGRAM.
REST WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.
4. In such cases,
ONLY COPY-PASTE IS REQUIRED.
(and it takes not more than 15 SECONDS)

Need an understanding of how do we judge or make out that for a particular report we can go for ABAP query and for one we can go for BW report.??? Please provide clear answer with example..

Your question is very broad based.
ABAP Query is a simple tool in the hands of the Functional consultants to extract information from the tables directly ( u can use complex logic as well ), Example - List all sales orders within a particular period.
But, BW reports are used not for Transactional analysis but for Strategic reporting. Depends upon the nature of data , users of data, availability of data, you should decide. It needs investment in BW module. Report the total sales by region, product etc with trends and graphs.

ABAP Query and Translation

Hi Experts,
I have a Tcode and it looks like it is generated through ABAP Query. I know the Report name also, so how i can find the Query and Infoset Name. Please suggest me some ideas.
I have another doubt when i am Trying to Translate the text elements, After giving the target language it shows 'Empty object list'. What it exactly means.

If it a ABAP query then u will get a name like:
AQZZZ_SLO=======Z_SLO_AUDIT_IM
Here Z_SLO is ur user group and Z_SLO_AUDIT_IM is ur query name.
If u display the query from SQ01 then in the initial screen u will get an ALV report where it will show the infoset name of that query.

Hi,
In BEx query, when you click "Queries" to open the query, the list of queries are displayed. Highlight the query, click on the "Properties On/Off' icon(right most on the top), you would see all the details.
In WAD, before opening the template, click on "Properties On/Off'" icon to see the details.

Unable to access Archived data with an ABAP Query

I have an ABAP Query that uses Logical Database KDF (Vendor) for reporting.
KDF is Archive Enabled and I can access archived document via SAP standard programs that used the KDF Logical Database.
the query appears accessing the data but nothing shows on the report.
Has anyone successfully written and ABAP query and included access to the Archived data?
Any help is appreciated.

I've tried to use CL_ABAP_GZIP and CL_ABAP_UNGZIP_BINARY_STREAM and I'm getting the same error 30 at the IctDecompressStream function.
