ABAP Trial performance really SLOW compared with IDES 4.7 (really fast)

just a quick question
I'm running on an XP Virtual machine the full IDES V4.7 and performance is really GOOD. Transactions etc etc.
Now on an identically configfured Virtual machine with similar disks etc the APAP trial Preview runs FAR WORSE and slower. OK I know it's a newer release but there's no transactional stuff in it. The IDES uses around 45 - 60 GB disk soace BTW
The only difference I can see that might make a huge difference is the IDES uses the ORACLE DB system wheras the ABAP preview uses MAXDB DB system.
Incidentally for running VM's ALWAYS allocate the FULL virtual disk size you want when creating the VM. If you let the disks "grow" as in a normal VM this has horrendous implications for database type of applications.
Both VM's are running as 2GB RAM XP systems on a Host Windows 7 X-64 4GB machine.
Any Guru out there who might be able to explain the great IDES performance compared with the ABAP trial preview.
(Both VM's are run individually -- not at the same time).

I have the exact setup as you do (701 V3). Have you run SGEN? I also find that my performance is quite slow at first (presumable while the disk is allocating to memory) but it then speeds up quite quickly. Also, might help if you upgrade your ram if your planning on running both VM's at once. I'm currently allocating 3GB to my VM.
Transactions ST02 & ST06 may help you to trouble shoot your performance issues. Use RZ10 to alter your system parameters (assume you know this already).

When disabled the Macafee anti-virus found it far quicker.
The enabled it also quicker as it some kind of conflict with the anti-virus software.
Do you know how to stop Macafee scanning BO.exes?

I have just bought a new Macbook Air several month ago, and i realize that my iMac is very very slow compare with the macbookair, what should i do to faster my iMac,
This few point happen slow at my iMac:
When Restart it is very slow.
When search spotlight or search a file using finder.
When Running iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie. Especially iPhoto
When transfering image from my phone to iphoto.
When Open New Application.
When working in multi application when swich between application, sometimes it was hang for a few second.
Sometimes typing aslo slow and the text wont come out and the cursor hold a few second.
I think above 7 points was very annoying my working, especially when in a rush.

Thanks to all of you that willing to help me.1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At or near the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "System Version." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Universe results in BOE XI 3.1 really slow compared to BOE XI R2

Our system is BOXI 3.1 fp 1.6 installed on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 (3,5 GB RAM). The database that we are using is Oracle 10g (production system).
We are geting really slow results in one universe in BOE XI R3.1 compared to the same universe in BOE XI R2 (We have migrated this universe from BOE R2)
In BOE R2, in order to get the results it takes between 10 seconds and 1-2 minutes, but the same query, in BOE R3.1 it varies from 1 minute to 15 minutes, and it's not always the same time.
The first time it takes less time compared to other requests in order to get the results, and the query gets all the cpu from the server.
I have tried to optimize the table, using indexes and so on, but we have the same results in BOE R3.1
We are quering a big table (about 300-350.000 registers) that is partitioned by date.
I have tried to analyze the query that produces BO, and if I run the query in a query tool (like toad), it takes about 5-10 seconds in order to get ALL the results

i tried to install the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) - ABAP Trial Version on a VM-Image of Windows 2003 server, but received a 601-error concerning the MaxDB-Installation (but surely there was no SAP-installation before)..has anyone an idea if this installation is possible at all?

Really slow internet with OSX10.4 Server
We have a small network with a dual2ghzG5, 3 iMacG5s, 4 or 5 iBookG4s and about 3 or 4 miscellaneous PCs. We installed TigerServer on one iMacG5, and the PC's worked much better accessing the terabyte firewire RAID on that server iMac, but internet access really slowed down almost to a standstill.
We don't have any IT type geeks here, just a couple old time Mac users and a couple recent switchers. Is there any good resource for step-by-step How-to for setting this server up? We've looked on the internet, but not long or hard enough to find anything very helpful.
Any help will be appreciated,

You'll do far better to continue to use your standalone hardware Router, rather than trying to do NAT with your server, if that's what you've done.

PE 13: Upload to Youtube performance much worse compared with Premiere Elements 10
Since a week I have premiere Elements 13 purchased and installed and the first experience after creating three movies and uploading them to youtube is that I am thinking of going back to PE version 10. Uploading of a movie of 5 minutes takes more than 70 minutes!! In premiere Elements 10 it was much faster (approx.10-15 minutes. I have broadband glassfiber connection (just tested speed:90MB/s)
It seems an authentication/firewall kind of protocol is unacceptably slowing down the upload to youtube.
What could I do in settings to improve speed?

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on? Same one as Premiere Elements 10?
Have you ever run Premiere Elements 10 on the same computer as 13 for YouTube comparisons with the same upload content?

With your present Premiere Elements 13 Timeline content and export to file, do you find faster uploading to YouTube at the YouTube web site
as compared to uploading the file with that same content to YouTube from within the Premiere Elements 13 feature?

Webi Report Performance issue as compared with backaend SAP BW as

We are having Backend as SAP BW.
Dashboard and Webi reports are created with Backend SAP BW.
i.e thru Universe on top of Bex query and then webi report and then dashboard thru live office.
My point is that when we have created webi reprts with date range as parameter(sometimes as mandatory variable which comes as prompt in webi) or sometimes taking L 01 Calender date from Bex and creating a prompt in webi, we are facing that reports are taking lot of time to open. 5 minutes 10 minutes and sometimes 22 minutes to open.
This type of problem never ocurred when Backened was Oracle.
Also when drilling in webi report,it takes lot of time .

We logged this issue with support already, it is acknowledged.
What happens is that whenever you use an infoobject in the condition
(so pull in the object into condition and build a condition there,
or use that object in a filter object in the universe and then use the filter)
this will result in that object being added to the result set.
Since the query will retrieve a lot of different calendar days for the period you selected,
the resultset will be VERY big and performance virtually non-existent.
The workaround we used is to use a BEX variable for all date based selections.
One optional range variable makes it possible to build various types of selections
(less (with a very early startdate), greater (with a very far in the future enddate) and between).
Because the range selection is now handled by BEX, the calendar day will not be part of the selection...

Why is Firefox 6.0.2 really slow compared to previous Firefox versions?
After updating to Firefox 6.0.2 , all web pages to every place I visit takes a long time to load. No matter what I try, this version is slow! I have restarted Firefox in safe mode. I have disabled all add-on's and extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I have have been using Firefox since April 2010, and it had always been fast; until this junk version 6.0.2 came along.
Have you not read reviews online at cnet, or other web browser article sites? Many people are all having the same or really close to these particular issues.
Please get Firefox back to the speed it had, like those of the previous Firefox versions.Did it work fast in 6.0.1? or 5.0? Are you really sure that the problems you're describing started in this particular version.
Could you go to mozilla.org and download 7.0 and see if that solves it for you again? It's a much faster version. -
Is java really slower than C++ or is it really small? I hate people saying
I keep running into people saying oh Java sucks! Java is so slow. I use to be a hard core C++ fan until I used Java now I love it and I want to defend java, anyone know any resources where it explains that Java really isn't much slower than C++? Or the advantages of Java vs C++?

Garbage collection reduces the amount of time needed to manage memory. On the down-side, garbage collection can cause unpredictable slowdowns, which can be problematic for some applications. Well-written C++ can reduce the amount of time and effort spent managing memory.
The standard libraries are pretty good and well documented.
The JVM has been ported to many platforms, making portability a much reduced problem since recompilation isn't needed. JNI can make portability a problem, but this isn't especially common.
The language is fairly simple and very well documented. Very little about the language is left as "undefined" or "platform-dependent". Language simplicity is a trade-off though.
Threading and synchronization primitives are part of the language. They may not be advanced, but they're better than nothing.
C++ certainly has it's strong points as well. Be wary of thinking of yourself as a "fan" of Java. -

PB Displacement filter really slow with big images
hello;
I am trying to make a Pixel bender displacement filter that will handle displacements bigger than 128 pixels, for flash. Right now flash only uses one 8 bit color channel to represent a displacement, which can not be bigger than 128 pixels. I am trying to make a pixel bender kernel that will take 3 color channels( 24 bit) as a displacement, which should be able to handle displacements as big as 8388608. That is obviously bigger than I need.
The problem i am finding is that when the image or the displacement maps are too big it runs really slow. With images the size 3072x768, it runs at 3 frames per second on an intel based mac.
The question is , does anybody know how to optimise this code?
