ABAPer's next Career step

I am working as an ABAPer mostly in SAP AFS,I would like to know what is the career growth I can Expect as a ABAPer in next 6 month, and what should be my next step?
I am confuse whether to remain on technical side only or move to functional side?or I should go with BW or SAP NW , BI ...?
At the same time I don't want leave my knowledge of ABAP ie I want to move such field where my knowledge will be useful for me.
There are too many modules in SAP Functional also , if I moves to Functional side then which is best modules to work with in future ?
What you think is best suited for me ?
Suggest me right way .

Hi Rajwant,
These days the growing trend for developers is to have knowledge of JAVA. These days many SAP products are being JAVA enabled and for that having knowledge of JAVA is will be very useful. Also WebDynpro is catching market at full speed so you can update yourself on this part as well.
Regarding other functional modules, it all depends on your area of interest. It would not be fair enough to suggest on the basis of this question that which module will suit you best. Have a look on the different SAP modules, read its basic descritpion and check which one will suit you most as per your technical competency.

How to terminate the next job step in Background job?

Hi,
I have the requirement from the user that want to terminate the next job step in the background job that currently running (Status Active).
For example, Background Job A, contains 5 job step, once the background is running, we would like Job A not run thru job step 4 and 5, just run up to job step 3.
Anyone have any idea how can I do that?

Hi,
Try to delete instead of cancel in SM37.
To cancel and active job, select the job from SM37 and Click on STOP button in application toolbar. You can refer to your other thread for more info.

Hi Sanu,
To begin with CRM,its better you try to understand the functionality available in CRM and how and where in business scenarios it would be used.
All the technical knowledge you mentioned above would also help in CRM,since CRM can inturn be connected to other SAP systems as well as legacy systems.So its an advantage for you that you know stuffs like IDOC,ALE etc.
BDocs are widely used by middle ware module of CRM for data exchange.
Best source for you would be help.sap.com,you can get basic overview of CRM to begin with.

How to capture comments and read in next participent steps in Workflow?

I want to capture comments in one of the participent steps of my workflow and read them in the next step . Please share some suggestions on it .
I have added a from step as the participent step but it is saving data with random ids . I am not able to figure out how to read the data for corresponding process step in the workflow ?

The problem was the file "host" :
in the file C:\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts enter:
<permanent IP address> <host name>
For example:
10.10.0.10 yourhost
I was forget to change it.

Can someone give me a document for ABAP Dialog programming(module pool) and ALV - but i need Step by Step example ,with sreenshots and explanations.
In general any ABAP, STEP BY STEP hands on examples - Smartform, Sapscrips, Report, BDC will be highly appreciated.
I only need hands on examples please - regular Abap courses does not work because they dont have examples.
Please help ASAP.

Install Java Add-In for existing ABAP == 'First MSCS Node' step fails

I am in the process of installing the Java Add-In for an existing ABAP System.
I am doing the High-Availability Installation Services.
There are seven (7) steps:
1. Central Services Instance (CSC) Java Add-In
2. First MSCS Node
3. Database Instance Java Add-In
4. Additional MSCS Node
5. Enqueue Replication Server
6. Central Instance Java Add-In
7. Dialog Instance
Step #1 was completed successfully.
Step #2 (First MSCS Node) keeps failing with the following warnings/error:

Hello,
You must extract the first archive (only the first archive)
After that you'll see that you have in the directory start.htm
Double clicking 'start.htm' will take you to a web page where you find all the steps for installation.

GP-The next process step still continue when current step has terminated

Hi,
I'm using CE7.1 SP3. I have created a business process flow using the Guided Procedure. Each step in the process is done by different role.
I have an approval step in the process. When the user clicks approve, the next step will get executed. When the user clicks reject, the whole process should be terminated. However during testing, it is found that the next step can still be executed even though a rejection is specified. The process is not ended.
I have specified in GP that if reject is selected, it should go to terminal state.
Can anyone help?

I also tested this step property in TestStand 2.0.1. and as result of my tests I can say the followings:
- If you set the CancelCurrentExecution property from a defined PreSubstep for a step type, than the step is not further executed (e.g. behaves normal)
- If you set the CancelCurrentExecution property from any other place (e.g. engine callbacks, sequencefile callbacks, post substep aso), then the step is executed normally (e.g. behaves abnormal)
The attached sequence file contains a modified MessagePopup step which has an additional PreSubstep that will set the Step.CancelCurrentExecution to the value of the Step.CancelExecution step sub-property.
When this sub-property is set to TRUE then
the message window is not shown anymore.
James, you're right, and Maarten, if you need this functionality for a limited set of steps then you can use this feature as a PreSubstep too.

Automator doesn't go to next action step, actions not working

I am trying to make a simple Photoshop CS2 sequence in automator, I downloaded the CS2 actions from http://www.completedigitalphotography.com/index.php?p=339 ... i used:
Flatten Document
Resize Image
Save as TIFF
It only does the first step (flatten), it has a little green check mark next to each other action and said it completed them, but my image size remains unchanged, and it doesn't save as TIFF..
I tried to put 'Resize Image' on its own, and 'Save as Tiff', turns out they don't work on the image..
Whats the use of an automator if it doesn't do more than one action at a time? and whats the use of having actions if they don't do any action..
In the .sit file from the cs2action pack, are there action files or .atn files that i have to copy into my CS2 actions folder? When i upack the .sit file I don't find any .atn files...
Hope someone can ease my frustrations.

You need to add a "Continue" statement at the end of your
script otherwise you will have to click on Skip to go to next
slide.
And all the Quzzing information can be accessed from Flash
using the Quizn variables.

Do you mean you want to access BAPI in ABAP report?
If yes, then YES we can call,
1.Create a report -> In pattern write your BAPI name.
2. It is like your FM , Read correspoding BAPI documentation
3. Fill required parametes.
4. Test run and if successful , final run it.
And from Outside,
You have to establish a connection and create a wrapper and access using avaialble APIs.

The next Java step

Hi, I am at the level of Java programmer and I really do want to go as far into Java technology as it would take me. What I am having trouble with now is identifying the next step. If anyoun can tell me what steps they took after becoming a Java certified programmer.
I got the O'Reilly book Java and XML by McLaughlin and it seem to be pretty good on explaining web services. I am not sure whether I should focuss on web services rather than doing the Java Developer certification.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are pros and cons with going to get the certifications first.
On the one hand, it forces you to learn all about Java. On the other, you have no practical experience (I just decided to hire someone with experience versus a guy who had all the certs, but no experience.)
I went along the "get as much experience as possible first" route. Even in this ecomony, when I got laid off, I was hired somewhere else within a week.
Just my opinion - and you know what opinions are worth. ;)
