Ability to record video in QT Pro on Win 8.1

Just bought QT 7 pro for Windows registration key. App states it is registered QT pro for Windows, have downloaded and installed version 7.5.x and app shows registered as QT Pro.
I see no create new movie recording options under this QT Pro install on win8.1 on this sufrace pro I am helping this guy with. On my Macs in QT pro I can record video, and see no option of that here in the Windows QT pro version. Do I need a different download or for some unfathomable reason does Windows QT pro not support video recording. I bought the win version for this guy assuming it would be just like my macs..I have working video cameras connected to the machine, as well as a built in webcam...
Hoping its an ID-10-T error on my part, but do not see video options...help is appreciated

New video recording has always been a Mac only feature of Pro.

  • Program for/how can I Record video from MacBook Pro Retina camera on External HD?

Ive been trying to do this for a long time, and have looked throughout this forum but cant find an answer.  All I want to do is be able to record video from the built in camera to my external harddrive.  Photobooth lets you record it but not to an external HD, and I cant find a way to do it with the new iMovie either.  There has to be a way or a progarm that lets you do something this simple, but I cant find it.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to Record Video from QT Pro

I can't figure it out. Unless it is Hardware depentant. If I use my G4 Tower, My 1Ghz TiBoo, or my Pismo Powerbook, QT Pro states that it will capture at 240x180, but when I connect the same miniDV cam to my new 1.67ghz Powerbook it states it will capture at 320x240. How can I force QT Pro to record at 320x240?
I'm puzzled. I need a fix. Anybody got any suggestions?
Thanks for any insight into this.

Yep. That is why I think it may be dependant on hardware. With all my other Macs there are no other options within the recording prefs. It just defaults to automatic, However when I plug into my new 1.67ghz Powerbook, I actually have an option other than automatic, my canon miniDV cam shows up in the list. I'm thinking that it must be the FW chipset that is being used? I dunno. Very frustrating though.

  • Recording video on the Pre?

Maybe I'm just missing something, but it appears that the Pre has no way to record video. Even my ancient Razr could do that, although not very well.
If I am correct, and there is no ability to record, does anyone have any idea whether that feature might appear?

When will palm decide to add the video recording on the Pre?  I couldn't believe it didn't have that feature.  I Googled forums about the Palm Pre, and I see that I haven't been missing it..............there is no video recording feature.  I am not sure how this feature was missed.  The Pre can play movies and videos, but the cannot record/create a videos.  This really doesn't make sense.
Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
I can't answer your question as to when (or if) video recording will be available on the Pre.  Don't know personally whether it's just a matter of a software/OS upgrade, or if the hardware can even handle it.
BUT...to answer your final comment, it makes perfect sense to me for a device to be able to play movies and video but not be able to record video.  I have had many a cell phone that could record video, and I think I can count on one finger the number of times I have ever used it.  On the other hand, I have tons of movies, music videos and video clips which I have moved from my desktop computer to my Centro and other Palm devices for amusement of myself and others.
My phones have had the ability to take photos for years, but I have seldom used that feature, because the quality has been so awful. The Palm's image quality, though, is in a whole different league--roughly the same as many point-and-shoot digital cameras. Now that the pictures look halfway decent, I find myself using that feature often.
It would be the same for me with the ability to record video.
I can understand Palm/Sprint's eagerness to get this thing to market when they did, and I recognize the perils of being an early adopter. I am willing to be patient as they get the phone and its software sorted out, but I hope they realize that loyalty on the part of the user base has its limits.

First problem: You're fine. The hotter it gets, the more the fans spin up. The computer is designed so that at max load, at max fan speed, it won't overheat (unless it's obstructed by something, e.g. sitting on your bed swallowed by a comforter). It's not the best thing to keep it that toasty for days at a time, but a couple hours at a time shouldn't be a problem.
Second problem: If something in the trash won't delete, just use Secure Empty Trash and it should be fine. Since .torrent files are quite small, it should only take a couple seconds.

  • What is the preferred video file format for iMovie? About to purchase POS digital camera w ability to record HD Video.

I am about to purchase a digital point and shoot camera with the ability to record HD video.   I plan on importing all pics and video to iPhoto and want to begin creating iMovies combining photo's and the video clips.
It seems from the many posts that .MOV is supported in iMovie, but many posts in the community seemed to suggest that .MOV does not always work in iMovie.

YEAH, but  "iMovie" changes the "camcorder Mts" files into "mov" files and
this causes some lost of movie quality. To maintain the highest quality
camcorder movie quality you must not change the "mts" files. However, if
you want to "merge" any of your camcorder movies (and you most likely
will) any merging also changes the "mts" files to "mov" etc., so you will still
loose movie quality. "There appears to be no way to avoid loosing picture
quality once you decide to change the "Mts" files to something other".

  • Why did my 17"Mac Book Pro loose its ability to output video through it's adaptors?

Why did my 17"Mac Book Pro loose its ability to output video through it's adaptors? I have S-Video, RC, and an HDMI adaptors that use to work and output video. At somepoint an OS upgrade stoped their functionality. Is this something I can correct? If so, any ideas as to a path to follow?

2011 and later MacBook Pros shifted to Thunderbolt.
Pre 2010 MacBook Pros may have a PRAM battery getting old.
One of these factors may exist.   Not knowing the age of your MacBook Pro, I can't say for certain.

  • Quicktime Pro recording video - dimensions presets

It appears that the QT Pro presets for recording video (all two options) depend in part on what maching you're using it on -
On my G5, the videos recorded are 320 X 240, which is fine for my purposes... but on my Powerbook (with which I'll be doing the actual recording), the videos are 240 X 180, which is too small for my purposes.
Has anyone discovered a way to change these settings? Or to "fool" QT Pro into thinking it's on a different machine so that it will allow for larger dimensions?
Failing that - any suggestions for other software to record 3-4 hour meetings using an iSight and a Powerbook? (I've tried BTV, but can't get the file size to quality ratio anywhere near as good as QT Pro, and BTV seems to create huge swap files or something that make several hours of recording impossible).
    G5 Dual 2Ghz; 12 AlBook; iPod 3rd Gen   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks, QuickTimeKirk... I've got SnapzPro and gave it a shot, having it record the QT Pro record window (without having QT record, of course)... but one of the things I like about using QT Pro itself is that it appears to do the capture and the compression all at once -- i.e. no post-processing needed. This is ideal because the plan is to copy the movie to a USB thumb drive for the client at the end of the session; waiting for a 3 hour video to save and convert/compress won't work (hence something like iVezeen, while good, won't do).
Anyway, I have managed to change the dimensions via the .plist file that applies to my Powerbook. The next thing I want to try to change (if possible) is the framerate - it doesn't really need to be as high as it is for our purposes, and would cut down size (and processing cpu usage?) if I could reduce it to 15 or 20fps. I can't find that setting anywhere in the .plist files though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Secure Video conferencing with the ability to record

    Hi,
I am looking for a flash based secure video conferencing app which has the ability to record conferences.
I need it to enable a series of helpdesk type sessions and would prefer to use Flash so that the users do not have long set-up times.
Does anyone know of any off the shelf or open source apps that are out there?
    Thanks

Well and If you look at any thing by blackberry you can see that it does not match up on its features versus the iPhone. iPhone users and those of us who use it for it's amazing abilities aren't caught up on the fact that it lacks video, or picture messaging. There are other things that are more important to worry about with this phone. Play around with it and you can see that this is a very powerful tool. I switched to AT&T just to get the iPhone. Blackberry's phones have nothing on the iPhone, the way i look at it is the iPhone can only blow your mind away in the next model and until then get used to it's functions. I'd rather know how to use it at it's "simple" state as opposed to it high tech overly advanced possibilities.

  • Recording Video

I upgraded to QT 7 pro and I have my sony digital cam corder plugged into my firewire port and I am not seeing the recording ability under preferences of QT or under file/record video. Video is just not showing up. Just new Audio recording. I have other video recording software on my PC and they all work fine.

Bruce, I'd suggest you take this issue up in the iMovie or QuickTime for Mac forum. You'll be more likely to get help on one of those two places.
Note that Sony Handycams are not all the same. Only the MiniDV Sony camcorders work smoothly with Macs. Digital DVD might work with some effort (I don't know for sure), but the MicroMV units work only with Sony's proprietary Windows-only software. But try asking in one of those Mac-oriented formats (search them first for "Sony) and you'll probably get a definitive answer.

  • Recording Videos

I am having trouble recording video from really anything (tv, dvd player, vcr, etc). I have a friend who is using a MAC and a box called a Miglia Director's cut (http://www.miglia.com/products/video/director2/)
all he does is hook up the director's cut to the tv w/regular composite cables and it hooks to the MAC with a firewire. So then to record something off the tv all he does is open quicktime player, go to file and click record movie. Now i have tried to do the same exact thing, only im using windows and the option is not available to select "new movie recording" only "new audio"? i have found this little bit on the Support section of apple.com (http://helpqt.apple.com/qthelpwr3/english/QuickTimeHelp/pgs2/qtFmSet3.htm)
and it does say a MAC can record video but doesnt say anything about a windows machine. is there something im doing wrong or can you not use quicktime 7 pro to record movies on a windows machine??? Please help

When I try to record a video using QT Pro I get the following error message:
Operation Could not be completed due to an unknown error.

I have to unplug iSight then plug it back in to get iChat video working again.
I deleted QT pref, no luck.

after several hours of searching for and testing of lots of different video capture applications, i have finally found one. There were several that worked. But the one that was the best of the ones i tested was *EvoCam (http://www.evological.com/evocam.html)* I haven't used it for long but from what i have seen so far it works sweet. The one main thing i wanted it to do was create video recordings. that it does. it also has several cool options and effects you can apply to the video.
    hope this helps.
i still have not been able to get QT to record video with the iSight, or find any explanation from anywhere or anyone as to why. here is a list of a few of the other software apps i tried:
camtwist - (Really cool effects that you can apply to your cam for chats ect.)

    dreamn capture
    gawker

  • Can't record video or audio with my MBP's isghit

Everytime I try to record a video or a sound using quicktime and the isght in my MBP an error message saying the "recording could not create a file" disk may be full or not writeable". my disk is not full for sure... any ideas? Thanks

I've been having the same problem -- when I tried to record audio using Quicktime Pro I got the very same message.
What I discovered is that you have to go into the Quicktime recording preferences and set the destination where you want it to record to.
I had it previously set to an external HD that was no longer connected, which is why I was getting that message. I changed the recording destination to my desktop and it worked fine.
    Hope this helps!

  • Tips on recording video 4:3 or 16:9

    Hi Guys
I just need a tip when I record video with my camera: should I use the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9?
Is there any real difference in terms of quality, file size and compatability?
In other words, let's say I take a 10 minute footage, first in 4:3 and second in 16:9:
Will I get better quality shooting in 16:9?
Will the file size become smaller after capturing into Premiere Pro CS4, if I shot using 16:9?
Will the edited finished DVD be compatible to more TV sets (old CRT and new plasma/LCD) if I shot using 16:9?
    Thanks guys in advance.

I just need a tip when I record video with my camera: should I use the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9?
That depends. What do you want? What's your camera? What's your destination? What's the look you're hoping to achieve?
Is there any real difference in terms of quality, file size and compatability?
Probably not, but again, it depends on your camera. Some cameras have native 16:9 imagers and create a nice 16:9 image; others have 4:3 imagers and perform some black-art-mojo and create a not-so-nice 16:9 image. If your camera is DV, then file size is the same, because DV is DV is DV, and Premiere has no problem working with either standard or widescreen DV footage.
In other words, let's say I take a 10 minute footage, first in 4:3 and second in 16:9:
Will I get better quality shooting in 16:9?

Will the edited finished DVD be compatible to more TV sets (old CRT and new plasma/LCD) if I shot using 16:9?
    See above.
    See above.
This is the wrong question. It has little to nothing to do with the television, and everything to do with the DVD player. Most DVD players produced in this century will have a setting to specify the aspect ratio of your television. They need this information so they know how to display widescreen DVDs. If the setting is wrong for your TV, it'll look wrong, but that's not the TV's fault. Bottom line: a widescreen DVD can display properly on a standard TV or a widescreen TV.
