Ability to search the cookie exceptions list

After years of using the Firefox with the "ask me every time" option on cookie setting, I have ended up with a cookies exceptions list with thousands of entries. And yet there is currently no way to do a pattern matching search/find on the exceptions list. So whenever I need to find a domain/site address in the list that I am not sure about the full name of the particular address, I'll need to go through the long long list one by one to try to find it, and many times, not able to find it at all because this is an almost impossible manual task. There should be a way to do a pattern matching search/find on the exceptions list. This is essential to really able to manage a long long exceptions list with more than just a few hundreds of entries.
I understand that currently you can type the first few characters and it will take you to the entry that with the first few characters matching what you have typed. But this is not nearly enough to really be able to find an entry that you only know part of it's name or address. A true pattern matching search/find on any part of any and all entries, similar to the "Edit"->"Find" feature for web contents, would be essential.

What's needed is something like
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1243/
but the reviews about crashing make it a non-starter.
Perhaps it could be enabled only when needed? I won't be testing that
so don't wait for me.
This should have been in Firefox ever since they changed to SQLite,
it's so obviously needed.
I've been searching for a very long time and I'm surprised that
the previous post of 9/07/2010 is the first I've come across.
To help Google I'm adding "whitelist" clnee's subject line has
everything else I would think of.
My current solution is to "remove" every site that is blocked and
go from there. Also, I've recently added HttpFox addon to watch
cookies but I haven't used it more than a few minutes yet. It looks
useful if it doesn't slow things down. A more comprehensive addon is
Firebug but it is way more than I want to see.
One other feature Firefox could add would be to sort by time, since
the cookies of interest would be recent and, for checkout payment,
usually have no part of the name in common with the original
site. HttpFox might be useful here.

  • "Clear Recent History..." wipes cookies and! the cookies exceptions list although the cookies box is not ticked

Clicking "Clear Recent History..." wipes all cookies and even worse the cookies exceptions list although the cookies box is not ticked.
Problem persist across restarts of Firefox and reboots of the OS.

The exceptions are part of the "Site Preferences".
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Cookies' and the 'Site Preferences'.
You need an allow exception for cookies that you want to keep.

  • Where is the cookie exception list in Firefox 17.0.1

i'm looking for the cookie exception list that seems to have moved in later versions. I'm having trouble with Facebook and yahoo mail in that Firefox is showing those sites in frames. If I reset Firefox it works fine, but I am tiring of resetting it twice a day to read my email. It was suggested to add these sites to the cookies exception list - except that it's not where it used to be.

    Hi,
You can try setting '''Firefox will:''' to '''Use custom settings for history''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Privacy%20panel?as=u Privacy] to reveal the '''Exceptions''' button.

Cookie Exception List - How do you save it, copy it, and reload it to another instance of Firefox on a different machine? What is the file name/s that are used?
I have to upgrade machines regularly and do not wane to have to re-type all those blocked cookie address' into each new instance of Firefox.

The file "permissions.sqlite" stores 'allow' and 'block' exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and extensions (software) installation.

Pardon me for a moment while I (politely) rant in your general direction...
This type of response is not just unhelpful—it is the antithesis of helpful.
This is a support forum. Its purpose is helping to resolve people's problems. Sometimes those problems are going to require long explanations or lots of information. That either comes out in the original post or over the course of several back-and-forth replies; the former produces long posts but takes less time overall than the latter.
If you don't have the patience to read through a long post, then just move on. Posting a "too long, didn't read" comment adds nothing beneficial to anyone. All it does is reveal that the person who made that comment thinks it's important to tell everyone that their attention span is too short for anything longer than a tweet.
Yes, my post was long. Had you read it, you might have understood why it's so long. I'm trying to provide information that people searching these forums about this problem might find helpful. I did this because when I searched for info on this problem, I found lots of people with a similar problem, but no answers that went beyond "restore from backup". Since that advice wasn't the solution for me, I decided that more information might prompt someone with more knowledge and access than I have to investigate. Since you couldn't be bothered to read it, you clearly aren't the kind of person whose attention I was hoping to catch.
Certainly I could have made the post shorter, but I think putting it into a narrative like this makes it easier to follow and provides a context that a terse recitation of bare facts does not. If you disagree, that's your prerogative, but please don't waste everyone else's time by posting a comment just to say that you didn't read it.
I find it appalling that someone who's able to reach Level 6 on these support forums would post a "tldr" comment. That does not reflect positively on you or these forums.
    End of rant.

#30 - Deck recognition after Tiger Upgrade:
    Shane's Stock Answer #30:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1063600&#1063600
The credit for this goes to Bob Sidebotham:
I was just walked through a repair procedure by an Apple Care person, and it fixed my camera recognition problems (I have a Canon XL1 and sometime after installing Tiger, then 10.4.1, various patches (including Quicktime 7.1) and the latest Desktop Video patch, I've been unable to use the camera with Final Cut Express, and attempts to capture would result in a FCE crash).
The workaround is to download Quicktime manually, after removing the "receipts" which indicate that it is loaded. Specifically, I was told to do the following:
    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
    3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCP and see your camera.

  • ALLOWED Cookies Exception List does not retain entries from session to session.

YES, I've searched the KB for an answer...no joy. I want to manage my cookies by adding the few sites that I want to allow cookies for, with all other sites being denied, and me being prompted every time a site wants to dnld a cookie. I believe I understand all the available settings, but I can't bet FF to retain the list of allowed sites from session to session, and sometimes FF won't retain them even immediately after I save them. I never had a problem with FF3, but now I'm having this problem with FF4.

Issue unsolved. Hoping to receive deeper analysis.
Thank you cor-el, that's a good suggestion, but, something I already knew. I didn't execute Clear Recent History...Clear Recent History is NOT the cause of the problem.
Additional Information: In Options\Privacy\History my settings are: "Use custom settings for history", Permanent Private Browsing mode = ON, Accept cookies from sites = OFF. Should I expect to be able to click on the Exceptions button, and enter urls into the exceptions pop up window as ALLOW, and expect them to be there in subsequent FF sessions? I've noticed that the Exceptions pop up window does not have an "OK" button as I would expect from observed FF convention...should there be one? After entering a url, my only choice is a "Close" button or the Red "X".
Follow on question: Is it possible that a data error occurred during install, preventing an applet from loading correctly, which would prevent the retention of list entries into the permissions.sqlite file? My permissions.sqlite file is located where the KB says it should be, shows a size of 2K, and a Date Modified of today. Note: I have continued to try to enter and save urls into the Exceptions List with an ALLOW value with no success.
Or, perhaps I should migrate back to FF 3.xx?

  • After formatting and reinstalling the firefox exception lists are already populated.

I just formatted my laptop and reinstalled windows and Firefox. After importing my old bookmarks I installed Adblock Plus and pulled up my old block list. Then I updated Windows and went on to install the little stuff like 7zip, Symantec, ... and the next thing I know is that Firefox was slowing down and when I checked, the exception lists for pop-ups, image loading and add-ons were completely full - and I didn't know any of the first hundred of sites listed.
How can this be? I only went to pages like youtube, yahoo and google and only after installing symantec...
    Help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

  • What are the users exception-list equivalent in deployment rules?

Our users run a webapp that runs fine when the url is placed in the exception list, but I am experiencing difficulties getting it to run with deployment ruleset. I know the ruleset works, as it works on other apps.
What is the equivalent setting in the deployment ruleset?
    This does not work:
    <rule>
    <id location="https://test.example.com" />
    <action permission="run"/>
    </rule>
So what action should I apply to make it the equivalent of the exception list? "Default"?

  • Java does not list any sites in the site exception list, just an exclamation mark, so how do I add them?

I want to use an online drum machine ("monkey machine") that requires Java, so I installed Java, apparently correctly.
However, when I try to use the monkey machine drummer, it still demands Java, but Java's security mechanism won't allow me to add the monkey site (or any other site). All I get is an exclamation mark in the box where the list of site exceptions should be. This is in the control panel, under the security tab, after hitting "add" to add sites...
    So.....
How to add in the sites?
    Thanks!

  • Why does 11 search have a stupid side bar window while searching instead of searching the main music list like it used to?  ?

I am EXTREMELY UNHAPPY that I upgraded.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow and hard to navigate!   Ridiculous!

Scary, huh?  Fortunately, unlike several other screwups in 11, all you need to do is just uncheck "Search Entire Library" in the Search pull down menu and it will back to normal.

  • Recently a software update 7.1 presented itself on my phone. Since attempting to download it, I have lost the ability to search the internet while away from my computer. As well I can't call an one. And they can't call me. The 7.1 update keeps popping up.

Since attempting to download the latest update of 7.1. the download confirmation showed a pop up saying; unable to install. Can't re attempt to install. Lost internet ability when away from computer and I can't be called, nor can I call anyone. Please, can anyone help me with this? I'll even go back to what I had, had before attempting the 7.1 download.

Sounds like your only able to use Wifi on your device currently which indicates you have lost network connection with your cellular provider ....you can call them to troubleshoot this but one common issue in some countries is that if you are on a 3G only network this can become turned off after a software update...go to settings > cellular/mobile > and see if enable 3G  or enable 4G/LTE is off or on try turning it on and then power off phone and on again and this will probably fix it, so you can make calls etc and use the internet away from the computer.  As for the update always do an itunes backup first and they make sure you have long enough for this update to run through on wifi and then try it again.  Good Luck

  • Both the download and cookie exception dialogs are empty. I know there are entries there but I can't see them. This has been a problem since release 5.0 on Mac OSX.

They're empty, no entries. When I download a file I can see the download progress but once the download is finished the entry disappears.
The Cookie Exceptions list is always empty. But I know the list contains entries because I have Firefox configured to ask me about allowing cookies. So there should be many entries with sites either allowed, allowed for session, or denied.

I had the same issue: Exception list empty, but exceptions still present.
I've inspected my permissions.sqlite file and found an entry with permission set to -1. After changing this to 1, all exceptions were visible again.

  • I need to know how to set proxy exception list on remote pcs that are not on a domain controller

I currently manage approx 1,800 computers on a vpn network. They are not part of any AD. There are mixed service packs of XP mostly SP2 and SP3. They all access the internet via a proxy server. They are all running either IE6 (not many left) or IE8. I have
wrote a script to change the proxy exception list but not all of them have worked I have changed the following reg keys [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] & [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] & [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]. It seems in the ones that have not changed, the local SID account is the one in use and this has not changed because of its uniqueness. Is there a way either
scripting or a commercial package that I can use to write keys to ALL users. I'm not sure on the details of how to use local policy to set this or how I would be able to write a script that would import the settings from a text file or something. Can anyone
    help with this matter.
    Thanks

Well that is certainly not an easy task.
.Default is not the default user account. I do not recommend making changes there. HKLM is for the local machine which is probably your best bet for all users but if it is not propagating through that then it would have to be the current user since they
are not logged into a domain.
There is a way to update all the HKCU and there is a walk through here:
    http://micksmix.wordpress.com/2012/01/13/update-a-registry-key-for-all-users-on-a-system/
Making this management simple I'd suggest joining a domain and using GPO but I understand if it is not an option.
