Ability to sort contact in palm

I recently was upgraded to 6.2.2
It appears the that the ability to sort contacts by first names is gone?
Can it be recovered?
Post relates to: Palm IIIe

Sounds like you should organise all your folders by date order and give them a descriptive name, That way you can find things far more easily. Then you should keyword the pics so you can find within entrire library.
here's a fictitious set of folders to demonstrate.
2008/
2008-01-January/
2008-01-29 Gardening
2008-01-29 Night Out
2008-01-31 Trip to Zoo
2008-02-Febuary/
2008-02-01 Dog's birthday
2008-02-03 Cat's Birthday
2008-02-03 Race Meet
This structure as shown above is also good in that it will survive different programmes and even different OSes. Are you going to rely on Adobe, let along LR being around in 30yrs time? One should never let a programme dictate your fundamental filing structure - iPhoto, iTunes yuck, messy.
I also try and separate out differing shoots from each day as I'm hardly likely to want to look through gardening and night out shots together and it also speeds up individual folder rendering.
This specific structure is designed so it will always correctly arrange by date, do this and your problem is solved as LR simply imports your folder structure.
I've used this for a long time now and it's very robust.
Though
2008 - 02 - 17
also works as does
2008_02_17
just be consistent with what ever suits you.
I prefer using dashes to underscores, more readable and easier to type and I think this method
20080117
is stupid/useless [unless you are a computer].
I use Bridge to import from Cards [LR sucks at importing as it doesn't copy all file types] and you can set Bridge to place images in folders by date shot automatically.

  • Unable to transfer contacts on palm desktop (windows) to ipod nano

My friend has a PC with all her contacts within Palm desktop. She now wants to transfer the contacts into her iPod nano. I am lost! It is my understanding that a vcard needs to be created, but I am unsure how to do this on the PC. Can anyone assist?

This was not a question I asked.

  • Ability to sort by image similarity.

Ability to sort by actual image similarity.  This is the only way I can think of to identify duplicates in the catalog.  I know I have perhaps 5,000 dupplicate RAW images in my catalog and I can think of no other way to find them (so I can delete them and free up the space).  This could also be very handy for picking similar subject matter for a client.   This sounds like it would be very slow, but there is math for greatly speeding up the identification of similar images.

You've got my vote for this as a feature, but I guess a definition of 'similarity' would be needed to implement.  One way would be to allow sorting by some user-defined combination of metadata fields, but I don't know if this is what you had in mind.  Anyhow, if this did come to be, it'd be nice to also be able to filter and see only 'similar' images.
Short of a new feature, I've found that working with 'All Photographs', sorting by capture time, and visually scanning for duplicates works pretty well if the dups may have different names.  Otherwise sorting by filename works.  You can use metadata filters at the top to keep the number of images you review at one time reasonable.  Obviously, the smaller your catalog, the more manageable this is.
There are a couple of plug-ins that may be helpful.  The "Duplicate Finder" plug-in will let you select from some metadata options and then run through the entire catalog, putting identified duplicates in a Smart Collection for you to review.  My personal experience with a previous version was that this took a very long time and failed to finish on a really large catalog (60k+).
If you've got a lot of files to compare, LR/Transporter can be useful.  It lets you create a text file report on selected images containing whatever metadata fields you specifiy.  I found it helpful in some cases to output the filenames, capture time, edit time, etc.  If you are able to work with this data in Excel, Access, or some other database, you can whittle down your list of potential duplicates this way.  You then use LR/Transporter to import a list of images you want to flag, and you can then filter on that flag.
Tedious no matter how you do it.

  • Move contacts from Palm Desktop to Cell??

I've got a non-responsive Centro which I've taken to Verizon for trouble-shooting. In the meantime, I plan to use an old LG for a couple of days. Does anyone know how to move contacts from Palm Desktop to the LG?

Unfortunately since it's two different operating systems you will not be able to transfer your contacts to your Lg device. However, it might be possible to do an address book transfer in the store from your Palm to your Lg.

  • Maximum contacts in palm desktop 6

I'm trying to import my contacts into Palm desktop...  I have about 650 contacts - what's the max I can import?  Can I split up the file and import smaller chunks at once?

    Hello jamstyle,
You will want to export the data out of your Yahoo and Comcast accounts into a coma separated file (.csv file) and the import thoes data files into Palm Desktop.  From there, you can sync the data to your Palm.  If you haven't already done so, I would configure your Palm to HotSync with your computer first.

  • Sort contacts by company in the address book dialog

    Hi all,
When I create a new email, I click "to" to select the recipient. In the dialog box, I select my own address book (not the Exchange one), but I am not able to sort contacts by company. I only have display name and email columns. Right click does
    not works.
I red this was not possible, but it seems weird that I can sort by company in the Exchange address book and not in my own AB.
    Regards,
    Seb.

    Hi,
I can confirm that we cannot sort contacts by company in our own Address Books. As a workaround, we may use
Advanced Find beside the address book to find the people from a specific company.
Although Outlook is now a quite powerful tool, it is still not perfect. Outlook considers users' feeling very important and may make the change to make itself a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

  • Sort contacts by company

I just bough the new Iphone 4. Can you sort contacts by company rather than name?

In iOS 4 and 5 you could do it by creating the company name first, saving it and then going back to add the first and last name. In iOS 7 it is not possible to sort by company name no matter what you do.

  • Sorting Contacts on iPhone

Is it possible to sort contacts by "company" rather than by first or last name?

You can't sort your contacts by anything but name directly on the phone, but a little work on the computer can give a result that might work. I create groups in my contact manager that syncs to the iPhone. I can put people from different businesses in different groups. That way I can choose a specific group to look through, rather than all the contacts. It also works to separate out family and friends, etc. But you can't create the groups on the phone, only on the computer, and then sync them to the phone.

  • N97 How to sort contacts by company name

Is it possible to sort contacts by company name rather than first name, last name etc?

This is a HUGE shortcoming of Nokia's contacts app, which is still the most awkward and "old style numeric keypad telephone" oriented applications in the Nokia software suite on smartphones.
It's the only reason why I am still sometimes missing my Blackberry. There you find everything so quickly, and not only just typing in the individual's name, nor having to use that Nokia general search tool.
But now that Nokia FINALLY introduced a year ago "finding names typing", without launching the contacts application first I still have the hope that Nokia will release one day a REALLY user friendly, fast and flexible fully integrated agenda suite...

  • Sorting Contacts on iPod by Business

Hi, my father and I own a business and i'm giving him my iPod. He has a Windows PC and uses Outlook and likes the idea of having an all-in-one gadget for music and contacts, but we've hit a problem along the way. How do I sort the contacts by business, instead of a First/Last name basis?
    Thanks,
    Mark.
    Mac Mini 1.25 512MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Ipod 4G B&W 20Gig

I'd also like to be able to sort contacts by Business->User (like iTunes does with albums->songs).
Address Book also needs some kind of "Business"-merging of all people inside a single business (so we don't have to repeat all information such as fax, URL, address, etc).

  • Workaround - Sort Contacts by Company

Until Apple provides an update to allow sorting contacts by company, I found a short workaround.
Simply create a new contact, entering ONLY the company name. Save completely out of it (tapping "Save" twice.) Go back into the contact, tap Edit, and enter any other information you would as usual.
The contact will then forever sort by company, not by name.
    Cactus!

Another way to do this is after syncing. Your new addresses should sync with Address Book. Just go into Address Book, edit the contact and mark the check box that says Company.
I can't say that I do this every time I sync, but I just go down the list while I have a second or am sitting on hold waiting for somebody.

not buying anything from itunes until it has the ability to sort by popularity

Delete the ENTIRE iTunes folder from her user directory.
Frankly, you should be restoring the laptop as new, either using the restore CD provided by Toshiba or by reinstalling Windows with a Windows CD to remove ALL of her personal information.

That is not a sorting option in the built in app. There are other apps in the App Store that can access your contact information. Perhaps there is one that will let you do that.
