Abiword shift+tab behavior?
Does anybody know how to set
Shift+tab
to decrease indent like it does in other word processors? I find it strange that I have to use backspace to decrease the indent (which is also annoying because backspace is typically use to delete the bullet at the current indentation). Using shift+tab doesn't do anything.
I cant find info anywhere and i get the feeling this is something only im experiencing.. I'm on abiword 2.4.6.

try command Z to undo your tab indent in Pages.

How to override traversal keys CTL-TAB and CTL-SHIFT-TAB in JSplitpane?
Recently added a JSplitpane to a frame with a number of other panels. One of those panels has two actions triggered by CTL-TAB and CTL-SHIFT-TAB. Since adding the JSplitpane those actions no longer trigger, apparently because JSplitPane is ManagingFocusForwardTraversalKeys and ManagingFocustBackwardTraversalKeys.
I found if I disable the splitpane that the original actions are triggered, but that disables the divider.
What would be the recommended way to change the behavior of a JSplitpane to ignore CTL-TAB and CTL-SHIFT-TAB?
This is a list of things I have tried:

Regarding ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift-tab
hi,
i have a JFrame inside which i have a JInternalFrame and this contains 4 JPanels
which have components now,
when i press ctrl-tab from first panel's component the focus should move to
first component of next panel same from other panels and ctrl-shift-tab - reverse
how can i achive it ?
i extended FocusManager and by overriding processKeyEvent() i was able achieve what a wanted
but i have many JInternalFrames which are entirely diffenent from each other
so had to have different FocusManagers .
after setting new focusmanager the Mnemonic of JFrame were not working .
so i need any work arounds for the above problem.

It should work. In the case, don't minimize the Book3.xlsx's window. Then you should be able to use Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+F6 to switch between the book1,2 and 3.
Because Excel 2013 move to a single document interface, so there is no workbook title bar minimize, maximize, and close buttons. When you minimize the Book3's window in Excel 2013, the action will be treated as you have used the workbook title
bar minimize button to minimize the workbook.

If you use the workbook title bar minimize button in Excel 2010 instance, the same behavior can be reproduced.

Safari 4 is awkward handling many tabs: no longer shifts tab bar context?
With Safari 4.01, I have difficulty managing browser windows with MANY tabs.
The problem is, when I click the >> and choose a tab (A) that is currently "off screen," Safari will display A as the right-most tab on the tab-bar.
But, crucially, Safari 4.01 DOESN'T shift the whole tab-bar to the right to show tab A in context! What does this mean? If I want to click tab B next to A, I can't just do that. I have to click the >>, mouse down and only then can I click tab B.
Also, even after tab A is selected, the highlight in the >> tab drop-down still shows it as grayed-out.
The crazy thing is that the tab bar behaved correctly in Safari 4 Beta! That release would shift tab context to the right, AND it would gray-out the now left-most tabs in the >> drop-down, AND un-gray tab A in the same drop-down.
My questions: Am I simply missing a switch? Did Apple really take away the crucial context-shifting behavior in the tab bar? Could my plugins be interfering? (I use Glims, SafariBlock, Click-to-Flash, Inquisitor, and Google Gears).
I generally find Safari 4.01 to be very usable. But this tab issue is driving me crazy! I appreciate your help.OK, I found the file, deleted it, restarted Safari and found all the bookmarks still arranged out of order or not in their proper folders. I found many of the dups from before and deleted them all. I also re-arranged the bookmarks back to where they should be and will see if anything changes in the next day or two. I will reset safari right now and get back to this thread Thursday. Thanks for the help again, I really appreciate it.

How do I restore tab behavior back to the way it was in FF 3.5??
I just upgraded to FF 3.6.13, I generally wait to upgrade until any new bugs have been identified and corrected. In FF 3.5, when I opened a new tab from a link, the new tab appeared to the right of the current tab (NOT at the very end of the tab bar) and the focus STAYED ON THE CURRENT TAB. If I opened multiple new tabs, they each opened to the right of the previously opened new tab, as in <original tab sequence> Yahoo Facebook GMail MyBlog <New tab sequence after opening links> Yahoo Facebook NewFBLink1 NewFBLink2 NewFBLink3 NewFBLink4 GMail MyBlog, with the focus remaining on the CURRENT TAB (in this example Facebook, from which I was opening the links). In 3.6.13, the tabs SOMETIMES open to the right of the current tab, sometimes at the end of the tab bar, and no matter how I fiddle the settings, I cannot make them CONSISTENT. Have tried the extensions 'Tab Mix Plus' and 'New Tab at End' - these do not give me consistent behavior - sometimes they do as I wish, sometimes not. In addition, sometimes the focus stays on the current tab (which is what I want) - sometimes the focus changes to the new tab just opened, sometimes it stays on the current tab until I've opened 3 or 4 new tabs, then jumps to one of the new ones. In the 'options', I do NOT have 'when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately' checked; yet sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. HOW do I achieve consistent behavior?? This is why I don't upgrade often. Very frustrating. I have not changed any plugins, other than trying Tab Mix Plus and New Tabs at End after upgrading to 3.6.13, once I realized that the tab behavior was not consistent. How can I go back to FF 3.5 ???
First of all, sometimes Extensions can interfere with one another. That '''''<u>MAY</u>''''' be the case with your using both Tab Mix Plus and New Tabs at End. They both have a function that you can set for where new tabs appear. TMP has options concerning focus on new tabs.
My suggestions are:
#Un-install New Tabs at End (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions, click New Tabs at End, click Uninstall, then exit and restart Firefox).
#*If using no other extension that affect where tabs appear (to the right of current tab or at end of all open tabs), a simple preference change can affect that change for you, <u>and you have one less extension to be concerned with</u>. I have also made this change as TMP did not have the Focus options to do this when the "new tab at end" feature first appeared or when I first started using the version of Firefox in which this feature appeared:

See if the above changes give you the results you are seeking. Tab Mix Plus has lots of options. You may need to change one or two settings at a time until it behaves the way you desire. Keep track of the changes you make so that you can easily re-trace/re-set when the results are not what you want. -
The new tab behavior is driving me nuts. It keeps re-centering on tabs nearest the start of the list when I move a tab. How do I change this?
I don't want to download an app. I would rather add a new string in about config or just change of the ones in there to false. It's making my work life rather difficult, to be forced to go all the way back to the end of my list after moving one tab just to have to do it again. I mean it's to the point where I might consider changing browsers if they had tab scroll bars.
Edit: At this point I will download any app. Please make this stupid feature stop.The result of setting up that code will do exactly as you described: the tabs will be crowded together. I had not noticed any change in behaviour of Firefox with tabs because all the tabs are crowded together, so they cannot scroll, and I very seldom move tabs.

Shift-Tab Keyboard Shortcut not working
For some reason, my Shift-Tab keyboard shortcut is not work in TextEdit, PowerPoint, and NeoOffice. Has anyone else run into this problem?
It's very annoying having to deal with Bulleted lists and setting the proper indentation!
I did a clean install of Leopard as well as updating to the 10.5.1 patch just released.Well, I found the problem. The new Speech option, "Speak selected text when key is pressed" to the Shift+Tab combo by default. Changing this to something else or disabling it fixes the problem.

JComponent unreachable by tabbing, but SHIFT-tab works??
Hey all,
I have some weird behaviour happening with a JComboBox in the following JPanel code. The JPanel has several JLabels, JTextFields and JComboBoxes. All button one (the last one) of the JTextFields and JComboBoxes is reachable by pressing the TAB button. However, I can get to it if I press SHIFT+TAB and go through my focusable components backwards.
Either I'm missing something very simple, or maybe this is a bug. I would think it's me, not Java, that is causing this problem.

For some reason, using Shift-Tab to select fields in reverse does not work properly in Safari and other browsers (Chrome, Firefox). When I hit Shift-Tab, the browser window closes, or, if more than one tab is open, I am warned about closing all the tabs. This is not a new problem but I cannot recall when it started. Thanks.
I looked in System Preferences/Keyboard which was fine but then realized I have Witch installed. I looked at triggers there and of course, the trigger for closing a window was Shift-Tab. Deleting that fixed the problem. Thanks.

Using Shift+Tab With in JTable (Swing)
My Jtable have 4 columns , one of the column that is third one is setEditable fale , now im using SHIFT+TAB to travel the cells in this situation i cant travell from 4th cell to 2nd one because the third one is non editable , is ther any work around ??

Actually my problem is like this.No. Why tab INTO a cell which can't be edited... the tab key "moves to the next active control"... an uneditable cell isn't "active", so don't risk wearing-out the users precious nail polish by making them hit the tab key an extra time.
Sometimes this job scares me... the time, effort, thought, and talent which goes into such innanities. Sheesh!
Go ask your users which they'd prefer.

Shift-Tab to decrease indent level in list not working.
I really can't say it any clearer: when I press Shift-Tab to decrease the indent level (for example in an outline-style list), it is not decreasing the indent level.
This is for Pages 5.1/Mavericks 10.9.1
This used to work in iWork '09 but I just tried it in Pages '09 and I get a error beep.
The only thing I can think of is that there is some accessibility or other command that is overriding this but I can't figure out what.

I'm using a Harvard list. It simply is not working.
Just called AppleCare and they had not seen this issue but I got bumped up to iWork support (or whatever they are calling it now). They are calling me back tomorrow.
Command-] works for indenting as well but Command-[ does not work for outdenting.
My guess is it is a conflict but I thought maybe someone had run into this before and there might be a quick fix. -

How to Handled Shift +Tab(Focus) click in radion button?

I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.2.0.
My scenario is one radio button having three items(Left,Right,Center). Now my radio button focus is first radio(Left). Now I click the the tab sequence. It will go to the next field, whether it is input field.
Suppose Now I am come to back ward like shift+Tab it is come to the radio button. Here what is happening mean the focus is going to the Last radio button item(Center), what I want is which radio Item I select Initially ,the Same Place cursor want to go. How to proceed to this. Please give some suggestion to proceed.

so what you are saying is that the tab focus navigation bypasses the other radio buttons whereas tab back focus navigation doesn't. If this is the case, and due to missing information in your question, try this
set autosubmit="true" on the radio group so the radio button selection is saved.
If this doesn't help, please provide information about the implementation of how you created the radio group and which data they are bound to. Chances are that this indeed needs to be filed as a bug but also that it is a problem in your model

Steam In-Game Community & Chat Overlay (Shift+Tab Feature)
I'm trying to run Steam + TF2 through WINE.
The steam Shift+Tab feature works perfectly in Ubuntu out-of-the-box, but doesn't work at all in arch. Has anyone successfully activated this feature; can anyone suggest how I might activate the feature?

The script on the archwiki which supposedly accomplishes launching steam on a separate vt fails miserably on my computer. I've seen other startup scripts which use xinit to launch another X session, but they didn't work well either. Any suggestions / ideas I can use?

I have just migrated my application from Forms6i to Forms9i. Now I am facing a problem.
I have a field with 'Required' property is True. When I try to press 'Shift+Tab' to back to the previous field, it says 'Field must be entered'. Seems like it is firing the When-Validate-Item trigger even during 'Shift+Tab', which was not the case in Forms6i.
Is there any solution for this? Or is it a known issue in Forms9i?

SaleemSurpsise! It's not the when-validate-item trigger that fires, but it is because the field you are in has the "required" property set to "true". If you set the required property to false for the item (at design-time or at runtime programatically, using set_item_property - RTM on this), it won't do that. Some other way to be able to move within a record in a datablock without to run into this kind of trouble is to set the forms property "defer_required_enforcement" to true (which you may also do at design-time or at runtime programatically using set_form_property).
I believe this will help.
Still, I wonder how you didn't have the same problem on Forms 6i...
