Able to backup to Time Capsule - unable to access internet
I have the following devices that need to connect to the internet using the Time Capsule:
1) iMAC purchased in 4/09 - need to access internet wirelessly;
2) MacBook Pro - 5 years ago; and - need to access internet wirelessly;
3) Lenovo laptop with Windows XP - work assigned laptop - need to access by ethernet, tunnel into work with iPass.
4) Apple TV -just connected today - am able to get my music, but haven't been able to access iTunes store.
My cable modem is a Motorola. If the model # is important, I can get it, I'm just too tired right now.
I installed the Time Capsule this morning, was able to configure it to my iMac and back it up; then was able to connect to the internet until I tried to set up the MacBook Pro. During that configuration Airport Utility diagnostics instructed me to disconnect the modem and I lost connection with the iMac and never was able to get a connection with my MacBook Pro. I don't even want to think about the Lenovo laptop until I get the MAC's worked out.
I have no spaces or dashes in the names of my MacBook, iMac, Time Capsule or Apple TV, I've been at this for over 14 hours and I'm exhausted.
My cable modem connects to the Time Machine WAN port; and I have a cable connected from a Time Capsule ethernet port directly to my Lenox laptop.
I have not tried to connect my Linksys wireless router to the Time Capsule.
I had to disconnect the Time Capsule and reconnect my Linksys router to get back on the internet to read all the discussions which are not helping me.
HELP!
This issue has been resolved...talk to someone at Apple and we had to unplug the broadband coax cable and finally got it up and running.

Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

My backup to Time Capsule is taking over 4 million days. How can I shorten the time? I am not able to connect through ethernet. How do I fix this?
Not only that but my Mac Pro keep running and does not stop, my Address book has a blue light under it but wont open, the light for my monitor in the bottom right corner wont turn on or off. Please need help...It sounds like there is an issue with the Mac itself.

Even if you cannot connect by ethernet, at current location.. you can simply disconnect the TC from the network and bring it to the Mac and plug it in by ethernet. The TC can be reset if you haven't got a suitable current setup (save previous setup before you change it) and run just as backup device.. do the backup and then return it to the network.
If this is just a standard incremental backup.. then something has broken. The issue is not the TC pe se but failure in hardware somewhere. -

Suddenly extremely slow Time Machine backups on Time Capsule
My Time Machine backups on Time Capsule have been pretty good in the last few months. In the last week or so I am seeing painfully slow backups. It's not the preparing or the finishing phase, it's the backup itself. Data transfer for other apps is fine. The backup transfers about 50 Kb per second. In more than 3 hours it backed up about 600 Mb. Here's what I get from the Console:

Wireless Backup w/ time capsule
I was thinking about getting time capsule. I do have a question about wireless backup though. I travel a lot and I wondered if I were to leave my time capsule at my house and travel out of town will I still be able to backup things on the time capsule via other methods.
Is it possible to backup files via the airport feature. Like using the airport on my cpu to connect to the internet to backup files onto my time capsule at home which is also connected to the internet through airport.

In practice - and whether TimeMachine will be designed to support it - we really don't know. A definitive answer will have to wait until Time Capsule ships and we have more information.
There is one other issue - which is that Time Capsule's public IP address may change from day to day (which is typical of the dynamic IP addresses provided by most ISPs). Unless you keep a computer on your home LAN running 24/7 with an update client for a service like http://www.dyndns.com/ , or you put Time Capsule behind a separate internet router with a built in dyndns update client, you won't know what IP address to reach Time Capsule at while you are on the road.
In practise, it might be easier and more convenient to backup to something like a .Mac account while you are on the road. -
We are Mountain Lion using Time Machine to backup to Time Capsule. When the backup tries to run, an error appears after a couple of minutes saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Then an error shows up saying "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Time Capsule.The backup disk image /Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be created (error 60)"
I low level reformatted the Time Capsule and that didn't fix it. I then tried using Time Machine on another computer to back up to that same Time Capsule and it worked- so I'm doubting it's the Time Capsule.
I've noticed that when Time Machine runs, that a folder called Data at /Volumes/ appears while Time Machine is trying to back up. I think it's making the sparsebundle to transfer to the Time Capsule.
However, after a couple of minutes- it comes back saying that the disk is unreadable.
I think it's something wrong with either creating the sparsebundle or opening the disk image that seems to be a part of the Time Machine backup process on the local drive.
I am able to create a disk image with Disk Utilitiy without any problem on that system. I've repaired the disk and disk permissions with Disk Utility and replaced the directory with Disk Warrior. I've trashed what preference files I could find and restarted. I've completely removed the backup destination from the computer and added it back again.

Yes, exactly. It makes one sparse bundle per Mac.
It's possible the TC's disk is too full for a new sparse bundle, or there may be some other problem.
Via the Finder, locate the existing sparse bundle (see the pink box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17 if you're not sure how to do that). See how large it is (plus how large anything else that may be there). If the total is very near the size of the TC, that may be the problem.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs. Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs. Locate the backup in question (probably the first one displayed), then copy and post all the messages here. -
When I back up my macbook pro to time capsule 3TB, this appears:
"Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Time Capsule”.The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/Macintosh.sparsebundle” is already in use."
and I'm not able to back up. What do I do?As noted in the link I posted, that's fine if you're the only user logged-on to the only Mac using the TC's disks (internal and/or USB externals). If not, that may corrupt other data being written, especially other backups.

After a big issue on my system (Lion), I had to do a full restore from Time Capsule and my problems started.
Here is my setup:
Time Capsule configured with account-based authentication
MacBook with OS X Lion (x2) (1 needs a restore)
I booted from Lion's restoration partitions, then I selected "Restore from Time Machine backup", my Time Capsule is detected. I hit "Continue", the utility asks my login/password. Then...nothing ! It seems that no backup is detected.
Well, from another computer, I tried to connect with the same login/password and mount the sparsebundle backup...no problems
To go further, I launched Migration utility from the working computer, then tried to restore from Time Machine backups....no backup is detected again !
Solution:
I had, from Lion's restoration partition, to mount the Time Capsule drive, then the sparsebundle image (the backup) from Terminal.
After that, the restoration utility was able to detect the "local" mounted sparsebundle backup image.
Aftermath:
Not a single Apple utility, designed to restore my computer, was able to detect my Time Capsule's backups.
I was able to use the command line utility to be able to restore my computer.
Question:
Did I miss something ? Am I the only one to do that to restore from a Time Capsule configured with account authentication ?I'm sorry I didn't get your point. I didn't find any answer in this FAQ.
For the record, I checked my backups with Disk Utility, no damages were found, so it should work out of the box. -

You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you? If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose. -
I am trying to update my time machine backup on time capsule, but time machine keeps trying to create an entirely new backup (evidenced by the 200GB backup size). How can I get time machine to modify my old backup rather than create a new one?
It must have found the old backup corrupt.. so you will more than likely have little choice. You can archive off the old backup if it is still useful.

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.
On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs. Back up one Mac first, then back up the other. Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time. -

You'll have to use third-party software. I don't have a specific recommendation. There is no efficient way at all to back up a Time Capsule, which is why it should only be used as a backup destination, not as a general-purpose file server.

Kernel panic with wifi backup to Time Capsule
I have had no problem with wireless backup to Time Capsule until recently when I would consistently get a kernel panic during the backup. Is it a corrupt file? How would I isolate it? Or could it be a directory problem that DiskWarrior would fix? I can mount the backup image on my desktop OK.
I suppose I could erase my backup image on the Time Capsule, but I dont want to lose all that data. And if I did, what is the best way to archive that TIme Capsule backup image?

First, Repair your backups per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.
