Able to receive but not send mail

since moving to a new web host, I'm able to receive mail via Mac Mail but unable to send.
Is anyone else having this type of problem?
OSX 10.9.4
Mac Mail 7.3
web server
Linux
Apache 2.2.26
PHP 5.4.26

Please see if the Apple mail troubleshooting support article resolves this misbehavior.
Sending is the SMTP path, which is the one that nobody new to mail can find — mail uses POP or IMAP for receiving, and SMTP for sending, and there are separate settings, servers and login credentials for each.  To get to the SMTP settings, Mail > Preferences > Accounts > select the failing account > Account Information > select Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to Edit Mail Server List > select the SMTP account > verify the settings for the server, that SSL/TLS is enabled (usually) or not (rare), and that your username and password are correct.  Like the POP or IMAP settings, these SMTP settings and credentials are also specific to your mail ISP, which means I don't know exactly what the required settings are here.
With the way that mail pops up that infernal "do you want to cause yourself grief by changing your password?" dialog box on transient network errors, it's very easy to get an incorrect password set, too.
I'm not sure why you've listed web server, Linux, Apache and PHP in your posting.

With sparse information you give I would venture that you have not set up the correct Outgoing Mail Server settings in Mail>Preferences>Accounts. Contact your ISP for their set up.

  • Receive, But Not Send Mail

I recently purchased a new iMac and bought ProCare to bring all of my important documents from the old iMac to the new iMac. Since bringing home the new computer, I can only receive e-mail. Here are a few of the specifics:
We use comcast and have a wireless router in the house. I have tried connecting directly to the modem and wirelessly. I have tried using no authentication and authentication. I have tried using SSL. I have made sure the ports are correct for each of these settings. I have deleted the outgoing servers and reentered them. I have added a new account. That cannot send mail either. I also have an 14" iBook. I can send and receive mail from all accounts on that computer. To add to the confusion, I configured Entourage to send and receive e-mail today and it works with out any problems.
I am worried a corrupted e-mail came from the old computer?!? Is that possible? I think I have narrowed it down to the Mail application itself. Is there a pref file I should trash? I am confused as to why I can receive but not send? Another detail. When I hit send, it simply puts the file in the drafts folder. It is not as though the server is busy and puts the file in the Outbox.
Any help would be great. It is hard to get to the store for the genius to trouble shoot the issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Debbie

When I hit send, it simply puts the file in the drafts folder.
What do you mean? The message is already in Drafts when you compose it, isn’t it? Does clicking the Send button actually do anything? Is it enabled at all or is it grayed out? Can you type the content of the message normally?
    Proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.

  • Able to receive but not send email

I am able to receive email, but not send or reply to email. iPhone says "Invalid Sender Address" What can I do about this?

This sounds like the usual issue you come across where you can't send email unless you are using the sending server of the ISP whose service you are connected to. The simplest way round this seems to be to get a GMail account. Enable POP in the account settings, see http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13273 and then use the GMail sending server instead of your existing smtp server. If your ISP doesn't have authenticated servers that work over other ISPs networks this seems to be the easiest workaround and has the added advantage that GMail uses SSL for it's connections so it is more secure.
There is a good set of instructions for setting GMail up on the iPhone, see http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=72454

  • Can receive but not send mail

Because of buyout, had to switch over from Adelphia to Comcast this weekend. With the help of Comcast, reset Mac mail on both G4 and G3 running OS 10.4.9. Got everything finally working Sunday, but today, G4 will not send.
Error: "Message could not be delivered, will remain in Outbox until it can. Connection to server "smtp.comcast.net" on port 110 timed out." Any ideas?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi,
I, too, got caught up in this Comcast busines. When I reset my Mail preferences per their instructions, I found that I could receive e-mail but not send it. After spending almost an hour with TWO of their so-called technical people, I was told that mine was an OEM problem and there was nothing else that Comcast could do for me.
YET, by changing the server port from Comcast's recommended 587 setting back to 25 (which it had been when I was with Time-Warner), I could then send e-mails!
    Relieved but irritated,
    Bill

  • HT201240 how do i reset my password to access my email on a mac pro. i updated latest software and i am able to receive but not send email. i can't remember my password.

i recently updates the software on my macpro. now i can receive email but not send. it says something about my password but i don't remember the one i set??? now what?

To find your mail account's password, open Keychain Access.app in your /Applications/Utilities folder, select Login Keychain at the top of the list in the left-hand column, and below that, also on the left, select Passwords.
Find your mail account in the list that appears in the larger part of the window, click on it once to select it, then press command-I to open an Info window for your mail account. At the bottom of the Info window, tick the box, Show password:
In the dialog that opens, enter your "login" keychain password (which should be the same as the password you use for your Admin account), and choose Allow. That dialog will close and your mail account's password will appear in the Info window. Copy that password, and enter it in Mail when requested.

  • Can receive but not send mail while traveling

    Hello:
wondering if there is a solution to this recurring problem. My email address is through my website, via my cable service, and I read it using Mail without a problem. However, when I'm traveling and using internet service other than my home, I can read my mail through Mail - but not send it. When I attempt to mail from the Mail window, it starts to send from my Outbox, and then fails, and delivers the message: "Cannot send using the server smtp [cable service name].net Use the popup menu below to try a different outgoing mail server."
I can successfully send if I log onto my mail on my website, but it's more steps. Is there a solution to this, or is this just the nature of using outside networks?

    Hi BDAqua;
So can I just change the port number in my Mail>Pref>Accounts>Advanced pane, and be able to mail while traveling? Or does that create some kind of conflict with my current mail/cable provider settings? Port is currently set to 110. (It does say "check with your sysadmin before changing any of these settings". Alas.)

  • After OS upgrate, my Mail (Version 4.3) can receive -but not send mail !?

I just upgraded my I Mac to OS X 10.6. Everything is working well except my MAIL Version 4.3. I’m able to receive mail and look it up, but cannot send it out.

I called Apple and they walked me through some things--found duplicate outgoing servers
It's hard to deal with such a thing in a bulletin board environment. The possibility of that didn't occur to me.
Everything is working great now; both incoming & outgoing!
    I'm glad you were successful.
My Apple support person sent me this link to forward to you and the boards: http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/
That could be useful for others in the future. I've bookmarked it.

  • Am traveling; can receive but not send Mail

We just came to Peru, and have an apartment here with a wireless connection in it, provided by a cable company. I use Verizon as my server, sending and receiving mail with the Mail program. I've traveled to several countries and have never had any trouble sending or receiving mail. But I can't send mail here, and wonder if I need to put something different in the outgoing mail settings of Mail. Or do you think this has something to do with my having installed Snow Leopard? Don't know much about this, but would appreciate some help.
    Thanks!

have an apartment here with a wireless connection in it, provided by a cable company.
You may want to set your email to send using that company's outgoing mail server - to get the connection info you need, contact them for the details, ask the neighbor next door or the computer shop across the street and/or check on the internet using Google to see what others may have to say about the same situation in your location.
As an example, if the local service provider name is 'PeruISP', you would search Google for:
Peru ISP outgoing email setting (or) Peru ISP sending email
    ....you get the idea.
The point is that Verizon clearly isn't working there for you, so you need to know the correct outgoing email server name etc. before you can get your email going again.
    Good luck in any case.

  • I phone will receive but not send mail

Please help with ipnone (original) not able to send email messages. I receive a prompt that says cannot connect. Phone keeps trying forever. I get the same response until I finally delete the outgoing message.

Is this with your MobileMe account, or with another email account?
If the former, did you transfer your MobileMe email account settings from your Mac to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
