ABLETON, CUBASE, REASON ON LOGIC

When i select piano roll notes to move or size or whatever the notes i choose sound. When i select say 20 or more notes at the same time they all play at once, the sound is deafining! is there a way i can turn off this sound function like i can in ableton and reason?
undoing volume changes. the undo function seems only to work on arrangement tasks. what if i want to undo volume changes or setting changes in say...effects or instruments. please help!

you had your question about Piano Roll MIDI notes answered in a different thread. No need to keep reposting the same question.
Click on the MIDI Out button in the Piano Roll to disable triggering the sound fro a note when moving/clicking on it in the Piano Roll.
To undo velocity change applied to notes in the Piano roll use Edit > Undo or Command + Z. It works here.

  • Cubase 4 or Logic 7??

    Hi guys,
ok so i know this question has been asked a lot.
but i just need a simple answer, which is better...?
    Cubase 4 or Logic 7??
Getting a 20" iMac soon, and need some great software to compliment it so i can set up a little recording studio at my house ASAP.
Some help will be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks a lot!

I recently started using Logic Pro 7 over the summer and my results have been good, but I'm having a very hard time trying to get set up like I normally worked in Cubase SX3. For one, there's no satisfactory sampler for Logic/Universal Binary. EXS24 ranks worst among all the samplers I've seen when it comes to loading and dealing with my own samples. It's fine for just playing it's own instrument format. So I'm down a good sampler. None of my usual VST plugins work either but this isn't too bad since Logic Pro provides a wealth of instruments in the box. Other things I miss are the extreme audio manipulating abilities of SX3, simplicity of setting up multi-out instruments and playing them, simplicity with rewire, simplicity in general, and continuous playback without dropouts. Still, I'm getting good results with Logic. Midi performance timing seems to be better and mapping controls on my midi keyboard is grossly easier in Logic. Logic's interface is beautiful and the workflow is excellent with the exception of problems caused by the things I mentioned above. I can't wait to see what Logic Pro 8 will bring. I hope to see the audio side of it get up to the level of at least where Cubase SX3 is right now. Audio handling is currently surprisingly lacking in Logic Pro.

  • Help with rewiring Reason into Logic?

IM trying to rewire Reason into logic. When i insert a midi file into a channel and hit play reason will NOT play the midi and make sound.
    Is there anything im missing?

All midi needs to be routed through Logic. Don't use the preferences in Reason to get midi to it by 'sidetracking' Logic.
All midi goes into the Master (Logic) and then goes to to the rewire slave.
Make sure you understand the signal path.
"SIDENOTE on Reason's 'BUS' system for internal rewire objects
Bus1: addresses the currently selected device in Reason (i.e., the little keyboard icon in Reason's sequencer is not grayed out)
Bus2-5: Uses Reason midi Bus A-D
Bus6 (and up): starting at the first device and goes till the 16th device in Reason's Rack. So in your Reason rack Bus6 can access device # (1-16), Bus7 can access device # (17-32), etc...
Bus6 is sometimes the most useful, but realize that you can run out of devices and then you need to go to Bus7 to access more devices in your Reason rack. "
That tells you everything you need to know. If you understand how the Environment in Logic works, you shouldn't have any issues setting up Reason as a Rewire Slave.

I have a ton of instruments rewired from reason to logic. I like to play what I've done live then make edits, but when I do it starts to slow down and chug along and then logic gives me random midi errors.
From my searches of the forums, there's no way around this problem because only one core can handle the workload if somebody knows otherwise, please help.

  • How to rewire reason to logic?

  • How to mix reason through logic, then stereo back to reason mastering?

Is it possible to mix a track from reason through logics mixer (yes I know how to do this ok) but then send the master from logic back to reason so that I can master it in reasons mastering kit - I really prefer their mastering setup for some types of music the sound is just what I want (not for others) especially dance - but I can't find a way to do this? Do I have to print the logic mix into a sample and load it into a new reasons project? I'd rather hear the mix with mastering applied as well if possible.

Yeah i feel you, the sound is very characteristic and well-suited for electronic productions, I agree. Although technically, it doesn't compare to what you can achieve with Waves or even standard Logic mastering plugins, the sound can be very nice.
At the same time, Reason wouldn't be Reason anymore if it had audio input support That's what Logic is for

  • No sound from reason to logic

ok i really need help with this.
ive followed like 9 different tutorials all basicly saying the same thing and i cant get this to work at all. Im using logic pro v7.1.0 and reason v2.5
ive set up my environment and tracks to send midi and recieve audio, when i play my notes in logic it is sending to reason and im showing reason having audio on the master faders but i cant get logic to recieve any audio back on the tracks that i have set to recieve rewire master l/r.
    any help?

    I GOT ITTT!!!!!!
so apparently when you make a new audio object and your selecting "RW: Mix L" there are 2 of them! when i scrolled down for a while I found another one, i think maybe the top of those along with RW buses are for ableton live maybe?
I cant remember if in your tutorial you mentioned more than one set of these channel options but it might be worth saying something about it. this seriously ruined the last 2 hours of my life. especially my friend laughing at me at how easy it was in cubase to rewire reason making my logic manhood feel very bruised. haha

  • Ableton Live 8 to Logic Pro 9 Switch?!?

    Hey everyone,
I'm a producer and own a record label and I recently bought a Mac Mini (Mid-2007) that I have succesfully upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard! I am very familar with the Mac interface so that is not an issue, but I am not familar with the Logic Pro 9 interface. I currently use Ableton Live 8.3 and Reason 6. I have used FL Studio and Reaper, but made the switch to Ableton about a year ago. I love Ableton, don't get me wrong, but I've heard some really good stuff about Logic and I want to find a way to learn it. I haven't found a good guide to Logic, but I guess most of it I can teach myself like I did Ableton. If you have any tutorials on getting started in Logic or maybe a Logic For Dummies (I Don't Know) but if you read this please link me!
    Thanks,
    Jacob Wolf

Hi Jacob. I use Logic 9 and Ableton 8 currently. I think that you will find Logic very similar to Arrangement View in Ableton. I prefer the layout in Logic over Ableton. I just like the overall look, as well as some of Logic-specific features like Flex editing, the arrangement window, and the MIDI tools. For the most part, you can do identical things with them. Ableton obviously has Session mode, as well, which would be more comparible to Apple's Mainstage (only $30 on the App Store).
I use Mainstage over Ableton for loops/ backing tracks with my band. If you need a DAW to use live, Logic is not a good choice but I do prefer it for recording, mixing, etc. To help me get down some of the intricacies, I picked up Logic Pro 9 Power, by Kevin Anker. I liked the way he presented things, and I got a lot out of the book. Best of luck!

  • Reason resets Logic tempo?  Help!

I'm having a serious problem using Reason 4 re-wired to Logic 8 (Logic is the host). As you know, in order to launch Reason in ReWire mode, you first must start the Logic application, then launch Reason. What is happening is when I have a project open in Logic, then launch Reason, Reason automatically opens a default, empty project, whose tempo happens to be set to 120 BPM. When this project opens, it is resetting the tempo of my Logic project to 120 BPM. Then when I open the correct Reason file (saved previously at 123 BPM, say), it too resets to 120 BPM (due to Logic now hosting that tempo in its project).
This is obviously a disaster, especially if you don't catch it right away. (With audio tracks involved it knocks all the MIDI and audio out of sync, for starters).
Part of the problem is there is an obvious inconsistency: when Reason opens its default 120 BPM project, it is setting Logic's tempo according to the saved Reason file. But when I open the proper Reason project, it doesn't set Logic's tempo a second time (thus correcting the previous error).
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting in either Logic or Reason to prevent it from happening?

never forget to sign the bpm tempo before open Reason...
Reason with CB4 and PT works fine...
but I know why this happen only with reason + Logic
it is another evidence that confirm my point
Logic Pro is the Killer of all other DAWs
    it is the most advanced....
we can only sympathize with these obvious attempts to sabotage .... (which can create alarms to disseminate alleged Logic-bugs report)
    but... please.. trust me
This is NOT a Logic bug!
we are waiting for a rewire engine update for long, long time!!! (Mac OS 9 and Reason 1.0 was fine with Logic 4 un the year 1999)
( we need a downgrade of rewire engine)
That is why I use Iacbus for sync Logic with Reason
I always avoid to use rewire...
I prefer export reason as Audio and use Audio in Logic

  • Rewired Reason with Logic

    Hey guys,
I am new here. I successfully rewired reason so I can hear it in Logic, but the only problem is that I hear both programs playing the sound. There might be a quick and easy solution that I do not know of since I am quite new to logic.
Anyways hope you guys can help me out!

I had the same problem.... contacted Reason Support and they said the following :
"You have to go to Reason Menu > Preferences > keyboards and control surfaces and un-tick the 'Use with Reason' box next to your keyboard."
Trouble is that when you use Reason in Stand alone then you need to check the boxes back again.
    Hope this works
    Fingers...

  • Imported Reason track, Logic speeds up tempo?

I exported a loop out of Reason, tempo=109bpm. I opened the file with QT to confirm proper sound... Imported loop (audio file) into Reason, and the song is significantly sped up, even when I adjust the tempo in the transport that does nothing, but shrink the wav file in appearance. What's going on here? How do I retain the OG bpm?
    -thanks guys

Sounds like it's a problem with sample rates.
Open your Reason exported audio file in Quicktime and press:
    Command-I
to get info. Does the Format field say 44.1 KHz?
Open your Logic project and click:
    Audio > Sample Rate
Is that also 44.1 KHz? Your symptoms imply that might be 48KHz or higher. If it is (and if that's what you want) add your Reason file to the Arrange window then double click on it. Next, click:
    Factory > Sample Rate Convert
and click the Convert button. That will change the Reason file sample rate to the project sample rate and all will be well.
If both are at 44.1 KHz to start with come back and we'll have another go.

  • Reason/ReWire--logic vocals out of synch (newbie)

Hi I just set up logic. I have a song I did in reason, it plays fine with logic. However when I record a vocal in logic and play it back, it is out of synch. The vocals start a little before they are supposed to. Any suggestions on what is causing this? Thanks.

Well I record the main song in Reason. I want to have my main song playing in reason, and record vocals. Then when the vocal is done, I want to listen to the vocal and edit whatever I did in Reason, like add/subtract notes if they don't sound good with my singing.
So at this point I'm in the "live rewire" mode, and I've tried it with that low latency button on and off in the transport bar. Same result.
Of course now playing around with Logic, it sounds so good I may just move there completely.

  • Rewire with Ableton Live 8 and Logic Pro 9

    Hi guys,
I'm really hoping that somebody can help me with (sorry) a Rewire problem...I am close to tearing my hair out.
I'm trying to Rewire Logic Pro 9 and Ableton Live 8. Before you ask I am using 32-bit Logic, and I am opening up Logic first, then Ableton but I can't seem to get the Ableton Live Rewire channels to appear in the Logic library.
Please help if you can, I'm going steadily insane. Such a waste of my time having to sort this rubbish out.
    Cheers!

    Hi
Did you run Live without Logic running to get Live to install the necessary Rewire bits and pieces?
You will then need to quit, Live, start Logic start Live.

  • Ableton Live 6 vs Logic Pro 8 CPU usage/audio quality.

    Hi,
Any user's have feedback regarding CPU usage between Abelton Live 6 vs Logic Pro 8. I'm currently running Live 6 on an MBP 2.0ghz (CD) and am constantly running into audio drop outs etc etc.I am reading throughout the net that Logic Pro 8 is more CPU friendly than LIve 6... is this true, overall? Also any users ever do a mixing test between the two apps to see if there was an audio difference when rendering your final project to aiff or wav? I am thinking on using Live 6 as a stratch pad to "create" as I enjoy it's flexibility then transfer the project over to Logic, however that depends if there really is a difference in CPU usage and Audio quality between the two DAW's.
    Thanks.
guess i should also state that i will be running on the new imac's come tax return time. lol

Logic 8 is very CPU friendly, I can say that much. I never found Ableton Live 5 to be very taxing either, though. Pro Tools is.
But like you I use Ableton as a scratchpad, I love how it works, and Logic for the finishing touches. But that's just because I'm not good at Logic yet. Not fast at it.
Get them both! You'll be glad you did.
