Abobe 8 Pro Startup Problem

When I try to open up a PDF via Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro it starts to open and then a pop up comes up saying it can't open until I open up another CS3 function like Photoshop. I had Photoshop already open when this notice came up. I also tried opening up Illustrator and Bridge to see if that made a difference. It didn't. What gives? My 7 Pro opens up fine. One other thing I noticed ... when I tried to close Photoshop, Illus. and Bridge I got the spinning pizza for a long time ... looked in my Force Quit window and it said these functions were not responding. So I force quit them.

Hey MBDes1,
I guess you are using Acrobat version 8.2.4 in that case Adobe posted the fix to this problem @ http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/861/cpsid_86169.html
Download the small app and run it on your Mac machine and this will solve all the issues that you have with CS3 and Acrobat.
Just in case you are on any other version of Acrobat 8, then update Acrobat to 8.2.4 using the update mechanism-Launch Acrobat and go to 'Help->Check for Updates'.
Hope this helps

  • Mac Pro startup problems

I've been having intermittent startup/sleep problems. One of two things happens...I put it to sleep and then when I come back later and tap the keyboard or touch the mouse, I hear it starting up, but the screen doesn't come on. To resolve this, I could usually sleep it with the power button and then try waking it again. Or I just force a restart by holding the power button down...of course losing whatever I hadn't saved.
The other thing that has been happening more frequently is that when I try to force a restart by holding the power button down, the cinema display doesn't turn on.
Apple wants me to disconnect all my peripherals and add them one at a time. I have a bunch of peripherals, and since this is an intermittent problem, I think it'll be difficult to diagnose. As well, i'm a quadriplegic and have no use of my hands, making plugging and unplugging a difficult task. My keyboard is plugged in to my monitor, which is plugged in to a surge protector. As a possible solution, I flipped off the surge, pushed in the power button til right before hearing the chime, the flipped on the surge before the chime and the monitor turns on. Sometimes. And sometimes when it does turn on, my Mac boots with the Boot Camp partition...even though I have chosen it to start with Leopard.
I've had on-site service and they changed out the logic board and video card.
This is frustrating. I can't bring it in or send it in because I would think I would need to include all the peripherals to replicate the problem at home.
Oh...it also seems if I just let it "sit there" for a long period of time, I can eventually boot it fine. Lately, this superstition hasn't worked.
I've found a lot of the Discussions with similar boot/sleep problems with the Mac Pro, but none have helped me.
    Any help would be appreciated.

This has been an ongoing issue since Panther. It is old as the hills and what it is isn't as easy to remedy as it sounds. There is an issue where, when the machine goes to sleep, the PCI bus shuts off and, upon awaking it doesn't power the video card bus up so, there's no display. There used to be mod to allow the PPC machines to keep the card active and one would go into Terminal and write it in and reset it in such a way to get it to work. However, in the Intel machines, I don't know what that is. IF there's other PCI cards running on that machine that does not support sleep, that same end result will happen. I got so fed up with patching it only to run a hi end audio card in there that did not support sleep and it went right back to a black screen. Best thing to do is to not to use sleep at all. I set it to never.
Oh, one more thing; there was an issue with some power supplies for the monitors. By simply unplugging it and reconnecting it, the monitor would fire up. I had that happen too with my Apple monitor. The thing was, it just never worked consistent from Panther as I recall.

  • Macbook pro startup problems, Mavericks and Yosemite

    2011 MBP
OK I am an idiot for trying to update to Yosemite which basically killed my laptop. After a long time of trying everything I eventually deleted and reformatted the hd and reinstalled maverick + data from Time Machine (via internet recovery). But still the problem seems to persist more or less identically after working ok for some hours.
I opened up the laptop this morning and the screen was just blank and I couldn’t restart (just got the grey screen). I can open up in safe mode but there is some very strange behaviour. At the moment the screen is divided in half with the r side on the L and the L side on the R. This is new, no weird screen issues before (except the grey screen on startup).
I have tried internet recovery again to use disc utility, the disc verifies fine. There is something strange going on with the permissions though - 2 permissions need repairing and I repair them but when I re-verify they need repairing again. I have repaired them about 10 times now but have no idea if they are connected with my problems or not.
Anyway I am at a total loss to know what is wrong or what I can do about it and getting desperate (I need to work!!). Any ideas?

  • Macbook Pro startup problems

Recently, I accidentally closed the lid of my MBP before it shutdown completely. Usually, this would cause a problem on the startup the next time where I would push the power button and the only thing happening is the light on the latch button would be half lit and you could hear the fan or some other components startup. The screen will not turn on and nothing else happens.
It's been happening with increasing frequency now. Can anyone help?

This seems to have happened to me now, also. I had just finished installing an update to my external FW800 HD (Western Digital MyBookPro 500GB). The installer said the installation was successful, but then my MyBook icon disappeared, and a dialog box came up saying the drive was disconnected unexpectedly. I clicked the go-away button, then I got the dimmed wipe-down saying I had to power off my machine by holding down the power button at least 5 seconds. I obeyed. The screen has been completely dark ever since.
Now, I can't get further than a half-dim latchlight. None of the startup key combinations work (I opened up the article and tried them all). I reset the SMC/PMU to no avail. Another early symptom was that the DVD drive was making a repeating racket like it was looking for a disk, but couldn't find one. I followed the troubleshooting guide to the point where it says to try to boot from the install disk (pressing "c"). The sign of life was that when I got the disk about 75% in, it grabbed the disk like normal, but then silence. So, it ate my Install DVD. Like all the other keys, the eject button doesn't work.
I should note a few things. I noticed that the machine would heat up, but I couldn't hear any drive activity after initally inserting the DVD. There's a quiet spin like a fan or maybe the HD idling, but no sounds of activity. I tried leaving it on (latchlight solid and dim) for more than an hour, and also leaving it off and unplugged for more than an hour.
I tried an old trick that used to work on a PowerBook G3 of plugging in a USB device as a way to interrupt a stall. I tried booting from the network. I scanned through these forums and saw quite a few recent posts like this.
The only service trouble this MBP-17 has had in the past 15 months is a swolen battery that was replaced back in May-June. I had no trouble with the new battery.
Any ideas of what else to do before calling AppleCare?

  • TS1367 MacBook Pro startup problems?

My MacBook pro (late 2008 model upgraded with OSX lion) locked up on me, now it will turn on and start to boot up but when progress bar is about half finished it shuts down?  Any advice short of taking it to Apple store/genius?

I have a problem where the start up starts for a while and then the screen goes black.  It is like the machine is asleep.  In order to try again you have to hold the power button down to shut down.  I have re installed lion and it works fine, but as soon as it updates, the problems starts again

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro Startup Problems.

    Hi all,
I have an  Early 2008 Mac Pro - 2x 2.8ghz Intel Xeon Quad Core processors, 12 gigs of Ram, 1x Nvidia 8800GT graphics card and I am running Windows Vista 64bit through bootcamp. I am running Snow Leopard. I have one monitor it is a Samsung 226bw - 22inch and it is connected via dvi and vga on the monitor side.
I have recently had my computer updated to the latest 10.65 (something like that).
Anyway my current problem is that:
a)The computer does not load up any operating systems and it is just a blank screen.
    b) Sometimes all you hear is the Apple loading Chime "doong" constantly, and a blank screen.
    c) Sometimes I can get to the windows selection screen for safe mode. I pick safe mode but it just goes to a blank screen. Also the monitor does not pick any signals up as it goes no source etc.
    What I have tried:
    a) I have changed the monitor cables 3 different ones.
    b) I have taken all the other hard drives out.
    c) I cannot get into Mac OSX or Windows Vista ( however Vista is the default OS right now)
    d) I can connect my main hdd and copy all my windows stuff, but I cannot see any of the apple osx.
My suspicions are it is graphics card,or hard drive related.
I have ordered a new graphics card a ATI Radeon 5770 ( wont come for 6days) and I have a new hard drive a WD Black Caviar 1tb.
    My Questions:
    a) I would like to know what your ideas are on my current situation and Mac Pro symptons.
    b) Is there a way I could format the WD Black Caviar HDD to a Mac Extended one in Windows on my laptop connected via sata?
    c) If "b" is possible could I then use my Mac Pro/Mac OSX or snow leopard discs to create a OSX for my Mac Pro?
    d) Or should I just wait for my graphics card to come and see if is just the Nvidia 8800gt failing?
    e) If it is not the graphics card then do you believe it is the hard drive? or could it be something else?
Any assistance would be kindly appreciated.
    KInd Regards
    Bobby

Vista on its own hard drive? Windows doesn't like to move the drive bay.
you could boot from Vista DVD (I'd upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 when possible)
    clone backups - for both
emergency boot drive / OS X DVD - you can, and should, always have more than one Mac OS boot volume handy.  So yes use 10.6 DVD
Preventative and disk maintenance (Disk Warrior etc)
You would need something like MacDrive8 or Paragon HFS8 to really have good access to HFS from Vista assuming the volume is safe to mount and access.

  • Windows XP Pro startup problem

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2009, and I installed Windows XP Pro using Bootcamp. It worked well for a few times after I installed it. But now after the screen just turns black after the Windows logo comes up. I have to shut down by holding down the power button.
When I try to start Windows again, it asks to check the disk , and then turns black again.

  • Adobe Connet Pro Startup Problems

    Hi
I'm a server admin for ACPro 6 and I am experiencing some
    problems after the server reboots.
9 times out of 10 after the system starts-up access to ACpro
login fails. Logging onto the server and running the 'Configure
Adobe Connect Enterprise Server' short-cut solves the problem every
    time.
I know this error has been note in the knowledge base at:
www.adobe.com/go/kb403439. I have followed the solution to add a
dependency between the MSSQL and Breeze services, however it does
    not appear to have worked.
Taking a look at the ACPro logs and Win Event Viewer I
noticed that, yes the Breeze service does now always start after
MSSQL however not before SQL has had time to start the 'breeze'
database; therefore still causing the same problem.
Is there any other solution to this problem? Does the upgrade
to version 7 of ACPro fix this or would it still be there?
    Help would be appreciated.

Restart your system and try this again.
System restart will resolve this issue.
    Thanks,

Sorry, possibly you need a new hard drive or try reformating. First
you can try something like http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/  it has been known to repair disk that DiskUtility could not. YMMV and they don't give it away.
If Disk Warrior can not repair then you need to Reformate the drive. Make sure you have a back-up in place no matter what.

Disk Utility will tell you something about it's SMART status:

I installed windows 7 on my MacBook pro and it did work well. But now windows has a startup problem and "startup repair" couldn't solve it, so I can't use both Mac os and windows and my laptop has become completely useless. Any suggestion?

Reboot and hold down command-R at the sound of the chime, that should take you to the Lion recovery partition, if it does go to disk utility and see if you have an OSX partition at all.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Video Startup Problem

I just updated to Premiere Pro CS6. On one of my systems it would not load because of the following error:
    Adobe Premiere Pro Startup Error:
Adobe Premiere Pro could not start any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
Here are my PC specs (not that beefy but handled CS5.5 fine):
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93 GHz
    16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX (driver version 296.10)
Anyone else getting this or has a solution?

Nevermind I fixed it. If anyone has the same error, just run as administrator FTW.

  • Can anyone diagnose my startup problem from this screen pattern?

After failing to startup my Mac on about 8 consecutive attempts today, I finally got it to boot up, and now I'm afraid to turn it off for fear that I won't be able to re-boot.
Here's a photo of what kept happening:
    http://www.doctorkeys.com/startup-problem-screen.html
This screen came up immediately, along with the spinning cog and the apple logo, both rather faint. But then those two disappeared, and all that was left was the gray screen with the pattern as shown in the photo. And that's as far as I got each time.
The display itself seems to be fine, because even when I couldn't use it with the Mac Pro, I was able to hook it up to my MacBook Pro and it worked fine.
Can anybody tell me what's happening?
    Thanks,
    Bruce Siegel

    Hi-
To be honest, though, I was hoping that the pattern in the photo was so specific and common that someone would look at it and say, "Oh, of course! I've seen THAT one before. Do this and your problem is solved."
I have seen graphics cards produce that type of screen as a result of a few of situations.
One, if the card is miss seated.
One other is if a capacitor on the card has failed, while VRAM failure is another cause.
The first case is easy to fix; remove and reseat.
The second and third require replacement of the failed graphics card.
Cleaning the gold contacts with 99% isopropyl alcohol and thoroughly dusting the card while it is out is a good idea.
I have been able to replace a bad capacitor to restore a card, but luck was a big part of determining which one it was....

  • Startup problem with Lion OS 10.7.3

Just recently, I've been experiencing a startup problem with Lion. I don't usually have any issues running my Mac, so I'm at a loss why this is happening now.
I have an Intel Mac Pro running 10.7.3. I usually leaving my Mac running all the time and only restart when the need arises. In addition to being my main computer, this mac alsocontrols a MacMini that serves as a music server thru screen sharing.
This past weekend, I restarted my Mac and could not get past the grey screen. The mac chimes, the apple logo appears with the spinning gear, the blue screen briefly appears, but instead of progressing to the desktop it reverts to the grey screen with a repeating cycle of the spinning gear appearing (spins for a while, stops, disappears, reppears spinning, stops, disappears, over and over) - never progressing beyond that stage.
I decided to reinstall the system and things have been fine for the past few days. Today, restarting again resulting in the same problem.
I've tried several things without success. I disconnected all peripherals, reset the PRAM/SMC, ran Disk Utility from a install volume and ran repair and permissions (no problems reported). Tried safe mode startup - a progress bar appeared but never fully progressed and could not get to the desktop.
Recent changes included updating the OS to 10.7.3 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 - no recent hardware changes. No bluetooth devices connected.
    Any thoughts? Thanks -

    Thanks -
I've reinstalled the OS today and am back up and running.
But, since this is twice this has happened within the past week, I'm worried about might be causing this issue - besides bad luck. My Mac is usually rock solid - can't remember the last time I've had to reinstall the OS in the past few generations of OS X.
