Abobe Media Encoder is Now Broke After Update!

Hi,
To my dismay, I discovered that Media Encoder no longer exports mp4 files. Each time I try it now, it exports a file with the extension m4v instead of mp4, and it will not play. This is CS6 on a MacBook Pro running mountain lion. It was working previously before the latest update from Adobe. Anyone else experiencing this?
When I try and play back the m4v file, I am seeing this error.
thx

"AME should output m4v files only when the multiplexer is set to None, in which case you get separate audio and video files. Please check which preset was used and what the muxer is set to. Please let us know if it's set to anything other than None, in which case you may have found a bug".
I've now experienced this issue and, while it appears that this is the intended behavior, there are two observations to be made.
1) Import an AE project into ME. If export audio is unchecked, the muxer remains set to mp4 and the file extensions are shown as mp4 in Media Encoder; however, ME does indeed output a .m4v file.
2) Rendering same project in AE without audio however produces .mp4 file.
As a result...
"Soundless" AE files are more readily "playable" since "soundless" .m4v files are, well, virtually impossible to play. Prime example: under Win 8 desktop, click the AE .mp4 file and the Win 8 "Metro" player handles it just fine whereas the ME .m4v shows as unplayable. Unfortunately, the SAME unplayability resuls occur using Media Player, Qucktime Player and the vaunted VLC Media Player. AE really appears to do it right and it's interesting that, as of CS6, there is this encoding difference and, of course, furthur interesting that ME changed it's ways with an update at some point.
Three presets were used in Media Encoder yielding identical, i.e. .m4v files, results. H.264, Youtube HD 720p 23.976, HD 1080p 23.976 and NTSC DV 24p. P.S. renaming .m4v to .mp4 doesn't make it playable either.
AE selections were selecting H.264 from the drop down menu and leaving audio unchecked. BTW, examining the Format Options, Multiplexer tab under these selections shows mp4 as the muxer.
And, to be sure the value of AE's method is fully appreciated, please again note that AE renders generate a very friendly playable "soundless" .mp4 whereas ME's "soundless" .m4v is virtually unplayable.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC (7.0.1) Update

    Hi all,
The Adobe Media Encoder CC (7.0.1) update is now available.
See this post for details, including how to install the update:

Does the AME not support CUDA like Premiere Pro?
It used to in CS6.  It does not in CC7.
Direct export may be the better way to go.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC 7.2.2 Update Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7

So, I get this strange error when I try to update AME CC 7.2.2. What to do?
Adobe Media Encoder CC 7.2.2 Update
    Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7

[ Mac 10.9.3 / Indesign CC update fail / Premiere update fail / Adobe Media Encoder 7.2.2 update fail ]
Buuttasin koneen. Sen jälkeen molempien päivitys onnistui.
There's no separate uninstaller for AME. My ID CC and Premiere couldn't be updated (for the AME7.2.2 update). MCMHMPEGVideoCodec.framework seemed to be the factor.
I uninstalled Premiere (only), after having manually removed MCMHMPEGVideoCodec.framework from inside AME. After boot I installed it again and voilà, both (ID & Premiere) updates went trough fine. The MCMHMPEGVideoCodec.framework was on place inside AME too.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update available

The Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update is available.
It has bug fixes and some new features.
You'll see from the post above that one of the features is left somewhat unexplained for the moment. That's because we wanted to get the bug fixes for Adobe Media Encoder out as soon as possible, rather than hold this update and wait for it to coincide with certain other events. Stay tuned. We'll have more information about that new feature quite soon.

I'm having a problem with Media Encoder 6.0.1 - it will encode for a few minutes, then slow down and sit, and then stop with an error (Error compiling movie.  Unknown error).  This happens with both h.264 and MPEG2, exporting 1080p.  This is with Windows 7, and the Task Manager shows the used memory increase and the CPU usage increase when ME starts, and when it slows down the CPU usage stops and the memory usage goes down.
(When it stops with the error it makes a loud noise, like a goat dying!  Must be the programmers idea of how to notify there is an error!)
This is happening on two different computers running Production Premium CS6 , and is pretty consistent between the two.  I don't know if ME 6.0 had this issue, only had CS6 a few days before the 6.0.1 update and may not have exported a file.  There have been no encoding issues at all with CS5 and CS5.5.
Any ideas what is causing this - something in the setup?  A bug?

  • ProRes presets for Media Encoder CC now available for download

    Hi everyone,
We have new ProRes output presets available for Media Encoder CC. You can download the presets here
While the new presets do not add new functionality to Media Encoder, they do provide added convenience. By definition, these presets are for use on Mac OS. If you are on Mac OS X 10.8, or 10.9, the ProRes codecs come installed with your operating system. If you are using Mac OS X 10.7, you will need to install one of the Apple Pro apps (Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, etc.) for the presets to function correctly.
Here’s what’s new with the Media Encoder CC ProRes presets:
Preset names have been updated to say "SD" (instead of “DV")
The Field Order of PAL SD presets changed from "Lower" to "Upper"
Frame Size of NTSC SD presets changed from 720x480 to 720x486. This is based on Apple's ProRes specifications. If 720x480 versions are needed you can create your own User presets with these settings.
Enhanced support for multi-track audio sources. New "Audio Track Layout" and "Channel Layout" sections let you specify the number of exported tracks, track types (single track, dual mono, or stereo pairs), and channel mapping for 5.1 audio
Please note: the ProRes presets should only be installed on AME CC (7.x). They may not work correctly in AME CS6 or earlier versions.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
Much appreciated, but I was wondering when we might expect a framerate and resolution independent way of transcoding media?
Sometimes (as in most of the time) I don't really care about changing resolutions or retiming anything, I usually just have a pile of media that I would like to conform to a single codec, independent of framerate or resolution, like at this very moment.
Right now I need to transcode 100+ clips in various flavors of h.264, mp4, and animation codec in order to get this media into Resolve.  I don't want to have to specify different framerates and resolutions, I just want them transcoded to ProRes.
The presets are nice, but the ability to do what I'm needing would greatly reduce the need for presets like these.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC 7.2.2 Update Update is not applicable. Error Code: U44M2P28

I have Adobe Media Encoder which is no longer launching or recognised by Adobe App Manager. How cool is that. Can't install trial version of AME. Get the above error when doing so.
Why did AME just stop working?
No updates to either OS or Adobe product....why oh why...I have to export for a SFX spot session & now I have to use Premiere Pro to do it & stop editing!
Any solutions welcome by those who've been through this before.
OSX MAvericks, MAC PRO 4,1 2X2.66, 24GB RAM, 256GB SSD, GTX670, GT12O, AJA LHI, ADOBE CC

    Hi Rave
    Thanks for that.
However I'm in the middle of a doco with tight deadlines for festival delivery & I can't afford to reinstall everything again at this point...ideally I'd like to remain on the same version of PPCC without upgrading (& so with it any number of new issues I haven't got time to deal with which would be the case if following your strategy). Better the devil you know & all that.
Can I delete apps using the cleaner tool & then reload 7.2.1 PPCC instead of the latest version? Is AME still working with this version of PPCC? Let me know the workflow & links if possible.
    Thanks

  • Exporting in Adobe Media Encoder fails in CS4 after CS3 is removed.

There's an issue with Adobe Media Encoder in CS4 where encoding will fail after CS3 is uninstalled.
If you never had CS3 installed on your machine - no problem.
If you never had CS3 and CS4 installed at the same time - no problem.
If you had CS3 and CS4 installed concurrently, then uninstalled CS3 - Houston, you have a problem.
You will need to uninstall CS4 and then reinstall CS4.
    The error message is:
    Encoding Failed
Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted.
One more thing I forgot to mention, this is a Win-only issue.

    >Does anyone understand this?
    Simple:
    1. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the folder that contains "dynamiclinkmanager.exe"
    2. Open a
second Windows Explorer window and navigate to the folder that contains "Premiere.exe"
    3. Arrange the windows side by side.
    4. Right-click on "Premiere.exe" and drag to the first explorer window, targeting between the files so as to avoid any specific file.
    5. Release the right-hand mouse button.
    6. Select "create shortcut here" from the pop-up menu.
    Cheers

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5 - 5.0.1 update

When I try to update AME CS5 using Adobe Updater, I get this error message:
The following updates were unable to install. If you wish to install these updates, please fix the problems below and retry:
    Adobe Media Encoder CS5 5.0.1
Adobe Media Encoder CS5 has been moved or deleted improperly. Please launch or reinstall the application to update the location and try again. To remove the product from the system, please uninstall product using the aliases under "/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers"
A few problems with this - there isn’t an AME uninstaller alias. Also there isn't an installer on the retail DVD, so I wouldn't be able to reinstall anyway. This is further complicated by the fact that the 5.0.1 update is not available online for download. Maybe I'm missing something here, and this is just a stupid mistake on my part.
I have launched and used AME as well as checking that it is installed correctly (correct location) in my current configuration – still no luck with the auto update.
Is there a way to tell Adobe (or Adobe Updater) the location of AME, so this install will complete successfully?
Has anybody else seen this issue?
Has anybody else resolved this issue?
    Any help is appreciated -
    Jeremiah
    System Config:
    MacBook Pro 5,1 (15-in, late 2008)
    OS 10.6.4
    2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB (and GeForce 9400M 256 MB)
Adobe CS5 Master Collection (all current release except AME)
    AME 5.0.0.402 (64bit)

I did install the Adobe Support Advisor before posting. ASA was a little quirky on the Mac as well, but I finally got it to work; however, it reported no issues. Thanks for the suggestion though.
What I ended up doing was moving the AME directory to the root level on the system - and then back to it's original location in the Applications folder (same location it has been in). This must have updated something on the OS side because once I ran the updater again - all updates installed successfully.
I'm not sure how the issue came about, but it appears that the OS or Adobe had some incorrect information in a config or installer log file somewhere and by moving the folder out and then back it was resolved/updated.
    thanks -

  • Connect to remote server broke after update to 10.5.5

After updating my system to Leopard 10.5.5, I can no longer access a critical server at work while at home. I get the Errror -36 message after a bit of a wait. I don't even get the login dialog.
I have tried both using the URL and the IP number to the remote server, with and without the "afp://"-prefix. (AppleTalk is enabled in the SysPrefs.)
I have also tried a 10.5.4-related tip that you could via Terminal alter the way the Mac sends its access codes. No luck with that either.
The server runs OSX Server (10.4.?) as far as I know. It used to work in 10.5.4. Any ideas?

If you are at home what are you doing to access the server?
I have tried both using the URL and the IP number to the remote server, with and without the "afp://"-prefix. (AppleTalk is enabled in the SysPrefs.)
If this is a critical server then it is unwise to have the afp protocol opened up to the internet. Also Appletalk is not used in Leopard for file sharing it is a legacy protocol that still exists for printers.
The server runs OSX Server (10.4.?) as far as I know. It used to work in 10.5.4. Any ideas?
If your server is running Tiger server you should enable the vpn server and use that to access it from outside.
If a server admin setup your Tiger server I would be very surprised if they had opened up AFP to the world.

  • Iweb 08: Media now missing after update

We installed Iweb 08 last week, and now little by little we are finding bugs here and there. Layouts become randomly warped and Video content that was published does not show up once uploaded to the website. The file is not even in the directory, just a JPG of what it's supposed to be.
Also, some of the links, instead of going to the pages they are linked to (offsite) are just returning to the home page even though the link is still in tact.
    ANY help is appreciated.

Well I tried all the above -- the last one I thought would be the final trick, copying the package contents from one to the other. BUT, iWeb still says it cannot open domain.sites2, and when I click on domain.sites2 iWeb opens for a moment then shuts down again, telling me it cannot open ,,,,
Could the domain file itself have become corrupted somehow? Is there something inside the package I should mess with, or replace, or delete?
This contains all our corporate blogs, podcasts, etc. plus some stuff of my own....I keep hoping I won't have to transfer everything all over again by hand.
But if I do, from where do I do it? I understand "all I have to do" is cut and paste, drag and drop -- but from where to where? From the actual web site on .Mac to the draft in iWeb? How do I get the new stuff to add on to, not overwrite, the existing stuff on .Mac?
I will for sure make about a dozen good copies of the domain.sites file when I get it back and running -- BTW, does it need updating periodically, or is it just a general index?
    Help!
    Thanks.
