About a post install crash
Hello, i've upgraded my Tiger installation with the 'Archive and install' option and by rebooting, i've noticed my battery was low on cycles and when the setup assistant came up, i did a wrong move with my power supply and my powerbook went off. (i've looked closer on my battery life : i've got 0 cycle left).
By now, when i relaunch the setup assistant, it won't run. And everytime, i close and reopen sessions: - My desktop is Aurora
- Time Machine, Docs folder and Download Folder are always inviting themselves on the dock.
Is there a way to avoid to rerun another reinstallation, please? Thank you all.
@a brody : i don't know how to read the battery level of my CMOS Clock (i've been reading it must empty by now [4 years of loyal services]). But my powerbook still boots without any warning(s) ???
I'm french and i don't have undertood your answer very well : are you telling me that if i take my CMOS clock to be refilled in a authorized technical service, i will gain some cycles for my installed battery?
Could my empty CMOS Clock empty my new future batteries?
Thank you.

About post install scripts...
hi,
i wonder if there is a solution for the post-install script problem to prevent some commands like "rm -rf /" to be executed. I know that Gentoo hasn't got this problem because ebuild scripts use a particular language that doesn't implement a such command. But for Arch which uses bash, could this problem be really resolved ?
Comete.Toth wrote:[...]

exactly ---> do not download from sources you dont trust
(if you ever worked on a windows, you know that already, because there is a lot of evil things around (spyware, virus, bacteria, nice VB-scripts, nice JS-scripts ...))
-> the problem about security: if your OS becomes popular, then the bad guys see it as enough popular to do something bad with it
Toth wrote:I assure you, if the package maintainers ever run across a submitted package with "rm -rf /" in the post install script, they won't add it to the Arch Linux repositories. If/when you find a 3rd-party Arch package for download, that's a risk you are going to have to take. Check the scripts, check the source of the program (if you're paranoid). That's about all you can do.
what about a check (in pacman), to give warning, that something will be done with / ... as i know, there is no line to run with / as parameter for a normal reason during an installation or upgrade
if you download a non-archlinux.org package (downloaded from somewhere else), the install procedure is now this:

loading package data... done.
checking for conflicts... done.
installing ... done.

the check would look like this:

this will at least give the user a chance to look at code that contain "/ " in the install/upgrade/remove-scripts and have some control
of course this will not check the package-content :-( ... but at least you will have one leak closed particulary -
PI 7.11 sp5 post install steps - SLD update hangs in IE browser
Hello gurus,
This is my first shot at installing PI ever. We decided to go with PI 7.1 EHP1 and SP5. I think the latest may be SP6.
At any rate, we're doing this on AIX 6.1 and Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I followed the install Guide exactly. Did the sapinst, oracle and patch. Next, I manually updated the KERNEL, IGS , JVM, Then I updated SPAM, SAP_BASIS, then all the other abap components. Then did JSPM and all those components. Everything matches SP5 for PI 7.11
https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/maintenanceNWPI71
SAP_ABA 711 0005 SAPKA71105
SAP_BASIS 711 0005 SAPKB71105
PI_BASIS 711 0005 SAPK-71105INPIBASIS
ST-PI 2008_1_710 0003 SAPKITLRE3
SAP_BW 711 0005 SAPKW71105
ST-A/PI 01M_BCO710 0001 SAPKITAB8F
Now I'm doing the post install steps that are in the instguide. THere are tons of steps, but let me go over the big ones and where I'm having a problem:
READ ALL THESE NOTES:
Note 1309239 - Configuration Wizard: PI NetWeaver initial setup
Note 1286149 - Configuration Wizard: PI Self Test for NetWeaver
Note 1107808 - Collective Note: Configuration Wizard 7.1
Note 1286428 - Configuration Wizard: PI Wizard Templates overview
Note 1115280 - PI CTC: Running SAP NW for PI in a different client
At this point, based on being at PI 7.11 and SP5, I did the client copy. from 000 SAP_UCUS to my new 400 client. Then I did 001 SAP_USER to my new 400 client.
Then I followed the steps to link the java UME from 001 to 400. No problem after restarted SAP, it goes to 400.
Now, the next step as I see it is to run the initial config wizard out of NWA. I did that, no errors.
My problem is when I get to updating the SLD. I started at cimsap 1.5.42 and CRDelta 5.0....
I updated cimsap to the cimsap51509_1-20005942.zip which took me to 1.6.9
Next, I tried to import CRDelta51509_1-20005942.ZIP. I "browse" to find it during the import, but when I click the "IMPORT" button, my browser hangs...
I don't even get to the next page where it would be one more "warning/info" before I could really start the import.
I didn't find anything in the work directory or the cluster/server0/log directory.
I search all through SDN/OSS but could not find anyone who had this problem.
Where did I mess up? Are there other config wizards I should have run before I tried to update the SLD?
--NICKHey Caio,
Thanks for the response but it doesn't actually answer my question. But to that point, for a "basic" PI post install, which of the NWA config tasks would you run other than the "initial config" ? And would you run them BEFORE you updated the SLD content (cimsap/CRDelta) ?
NW: PI - AS ABAP (Basic Configuration for Idoc, Proxy): Maintain
PI Adapter Engine in JPR Mode
PI Demo Client
PI Full Qualified Host Name
PI Self Test for NetWeaver
PI SLD Self Registration
Specifically, I did the SAPINST - ABAP/JAVA patches - Client copy - and THEN the initial config wizard (Setup a new local SLD, ). Also, during the initial config, I clicked the box marked "This SLD will be used as a name server for development" and my PI server hostname was already in the box marked "object server name". This config took about 30 minutes. I didn't see any errors or warnings. although I didn't view the log. I did go into Java JEE services and Filter for Services with name "XPI". All were green.
THEN I tried to update the SLD content.
any thoughts appreciated.

Post income crashes when "Waiting to update this Folder" appears in the outlook mailbox.
Post income crashes when "waiting to update this folder" appears in the outlook mailbox (outlook 2007) We have already done the basic troubleshooting of remove the cached exchange mode, this does not resolve the problem. Also we have tried following
on the MS article of basic troubleshooting
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842284 and KB2000071
Many of the users now are facing this issue. OWA is working fine also mails on Mobile devices are working fine except for outlook client 2007.
Can any one help.

PralhadHi,
The Event Viewer can be a great help to determine the root cause of an issue or to find new leads in case regular troubleshooting of Outlook didn’t bring any results.
Open the Event Viewer:
Press Win + R and type “eventvwr” in the blank box, then press Enter.
You may find the Error Entries for Outlook, also Event ID, text description after the crash happens, post the information in the forum and maybe we can find something useful to find the root cause.
You may know more about Event logs from this article below:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/what-information-event-logs-event-viewer#1TC=windows-7

Mavericks recovered hard drive space post-install
I had about 12 gig free on my 15" 2012 MBP pre install. Installed 10.9 and now I have almost 36Gig free. Ran HD checks and no issues reporting. I looked at my backup and checked folder sizes in my profile pre and post install and all the data is there. I have an OCZ 256GB SSD drive installed and I've heard the stories about SSD and potential data loss but everything looks fine and is present post-install. I've read nothing about 10.9 compressing files so I am really stumped. I don't backup system files so I can't determine if some older files were purged. Still, thats a lot of data to recover. I then installed 10.9 on a new 27" Imac and hard drive space remained about the same and no extra space recovered. I'm a certified Mac tech and even all the techs I work with have never seen behavior like this on any version post-install. Anyone ever hear of this or have a similar experience? Thanks!!
Just installed Mavericks this morning and am surprised and alarmed in equal measure.
My MacBook Pro Late 11 750GB HG had:
156GB remaining before installing mavericks
It now it has
415GB remaining post installation.
All my apps and files appear to be there so I am at a loss to work out what has happened. -
Post install package installation on RHEL5
Hi,
Can I have some advise please.
When I installed Oracle's RHEL5 Linux OS I failed to select quite a lot of packages that I needed (like Apache for example.)
I've been double clicking on the RPM packages and getting lots of dependacy errors and searching though the other CD's trying to find the dependencies and of course running into more dependancy problems.
I am not yet in a position to buy the support agreement as I just want to get the server working!
So my question is - Is there any easy way to do post install package upgrades/installs or should I just reinstall the OS?
I didn't have these problems with RHEL4 so any help would be appreciated. If I have to reinstall thats OK, I'm just getting nowhere fast at the moment.
Kind regards,
James
ps I tried copying all the RPMS to the server and running createrepo but that didn't help either and of course, simple packages (with no dependents like sendmail-cf worked fine)Hi,
Well rather then complaining I just went ahead and manually resolved all my dependencies.
To make this convenient I copied all RPM's to the server and issue rpm -ivh enough times till I found all dependencies.
Issues arose when the required rpm wasn't identified by it's rpm filename but a quick search on Google identified the rpm to which the SO belonged.
As an example installing 'squirrelmail' took about 15 rpm runs until successful. Whilst this doesn't compare well with 1 yum run :-) it really didn't take very long.
Kind Regards,
James -
I recently installed ECC 6.0 SR3 with Java Add-in.
OS is Windows 2003 (around 6.5GB of physical memory)
I was performing post install configs but not sure for about the following pararms,
Please can youu2019ll suggest me some recommended values:
I plan to set Env Variable CPIC_MAX_CONV to 200
What values should I use for:
qw/max_conn
qw/max_sys
qw/max_overflow_size
qw/max_shm_req
Thank you,
CD> 1. After fresh install is the variable CPIC_MAX_CONV set to some default value or it needs to be.
If the environment variable is not set the default value is 100.
> 2. Is there a calculation/process to determine the profile parameters gw/max_conn and gw/max_sys or they are not directly related.
CPIC_MAX_CONV are the maximum number of conversion IDs, gw/* parameters are for the gateway. I'm not sure if it's technically possible to use the same connection (seen from the gateway) with different/multiple conversion IDs so I'd say gw/max_conn is related to CPIC_MAX_CONV, yes.
You can check in the system itself the default values using transaction RZ11 (btw: including the documentation).

Need Help on this following ENVIRONMENT
SOLMAN4.0 (ABAP+JAVA) STACK
DB:MSSQL 2005
OS:WIN2003 (32bit)
JAVA: JRE_1.4.2_12.
After restarting the server the J2EE engine as expected and i have to log into SMICM and send restart j2ee instance. WIll changing the rdisp/j2ee=0/1 paramter to 1 would resolve this problem or are there any post install steps which i need to check for the java stack, The install doc didnt have much information about JAVA.
Thanks in advacneSrini,
I had tried loggin http://localhost:50100 (01-instance) but it throws me 404 error page cannot be displayed only after i send the restart--J2ee from SMCICM will this allows me to loggin to http://localhost:50100. My questions is after every restart of the server do i have to run this SMICM (to restart the J2ee) shudnt it re-start automatically.. Does setting the paramter rdisp/j2ee would allow for this change to happen.
2Q) What post install steps should i do for the JAVA side (the Instal document wasnt helpful) Any help or location of notes is highly helpful.

Install SCCM Client Post Install via MDT 2013
I want to know best practice on how to install the SCCM client via MDT 2013 as a post install task sequence? Im deploying a lot of machines via MDT offline USB....
Is it grabbing the ccmsetup folder and using the following command line?
ccmsetup.exe /noservice /MP:<insert> SMSSITECODE=<insert> smscachesize=10000There's no such thing as a "best practice" for most real-world tasks; real-world is different for everyone which means you need to know the details and choose the right things for your environment.
You need to run the command-line that is appropriate for your environment just like you would for any manual install.
Without knowing any details about your environment, I would add the SMSMP and FSP properties to the above command-line. If this is truly an offline install, you shouldn't use /mp though, you should use /source and point it at the client directory.

MDT Database Variables post-install
Is the information in the MDT database available to a post-install script? I need to run a Lenovo utility to set the asset tag on the PC. I would like to pre-populate the MDT database with the serial number (which is what I'll use to match the unique PC).
I've found scripts online to get the information into the database, but I want to be able to do something like wflash2.exe /tag:%ASSET-TAG-VARIABLE-FROM-MDT-DATABSE%.I'm not sure the SID fits on a label that also says "Property of XXXX". ;-) Plus, SIDs can change. They are less concerned about theft, though, than people trying to claim PCs were a part of certain budgets. They'll dig up any old thing
and say they're due a replacement. Not if it doesn't have that sticker, they don't. Anyway...
*sigh*

So because there is an AssetTag variable pulled by ZTIGather, it uses that information instead of the information I specified in the database?
I tried using the CustomAssetTag field instead of AssetTag. BDD.log's last mention of CustomAssetTag is where is it setting it to the correct value... yet the script seems to ignore it.
Since it takes forever for this task to run, I'll post the information I have and try again, but putting a set in the script so that I see the variables before it tries doing anything. -
Hi All,
I've installed 10.6 on my iMac 24" and while the install has worked, I am having a negative post-install experience.
Everything is super-slow. Click on a window and it takes ages to come to the front (it remains the blank grey for about ten seconds). Anything Finder related is prone to beach balls. Movies take two or three minutes to 'load' in Quicktime before playing.
CPU is at an idleness of about 90%, so the computer isn't working really hard. The Time Machine is performing a backup which is slow (0.01 GB per every few minutes) but again, the computer isn't pumping away, it is just really slow.
Any suggestions? I've repaired disk permissions and also verified the disk (which seems to be OK).
I've rebooted several times.
Thanks in advance,
ChrisI am having the exact same issue. I just upgraded a brand new MacBook Pro (only had it a week) to Snow Leopard and now I get the watch and beach ball all the time. Everything is super slow worse than WINDOWS! Screens take a long time to refresh. While in Photoshop if I highlight text and then click on font drop down I get the beach ball for several seconds. In dreamweaver on the CSS panel I click on a CSS setting to change it and the CSS menu disappears and only reappears when I click back in that area.
I now wish I wouldn't have been so anxious to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I tried to go back with Time Machine but it doesn't seem to support going back in operating systems.
Is there anyway to go back to Leopard???? I sure hope so. I am still within my 15 days and may send this one back if I can't fix it. -

[SOLVED] icon-theme.cache and post install
Hi all,
after a problem with an app (in this case RawTherapee) that requires uptodate icon-theme.cache files under /usr/share/icons/THEME - I just want to ask for your opinion: Is this a feature that should be provided by the icon-theme package post install?
For example, xfce4-icon-theme has
post_install() {
gtk-update-icon-cache -q -t -f usr/share/icons/Rodent
in it's xfce4-icon-theme.install,
while gnome-icon-theme and hicolor-icon-theme don't and require issueing gtk-update-icon-cache manually after installation/update.
So what do you think, does this call for a feature request?
Edit: Seems like I got the concept wrong and that a solution is not that simple / on the segfaulting programs side... see http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14237. Thx Jan for explaining.
Last edited by gnidam (2009-04-15 11:31:30)Apparently gtk-update-icon-cache didn't accept that i had a .icon-theme.cache in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/. After removing it gtk-update-icon-cache apparently created a new file "icon-theme.cache" and doesn't complain anymore. The thing that is wierd about this is that on my other comp i have the .icon-theme.cache and it doesn't complain when upgrading.. Marking this solved anyway
