About background

Hello there,
I do have a very old book (one of them, actually !), which has been printed on pure vellum.
All drawings are already scanned, ad 160ppi and saved with a TIFF format.
Now, i would like to know if i need to use the "Rectangle tool" to have a close background color to the pure vellum, or is there an other simplier way.
NB: Starting from a new workspace !
Thanks for your comments,
Jean

Hi Peter, i hope you're fine !
Thanks for your reaction.
As you already know, i'm new using InDesign, but i think i will love it !
I have lots of books and magazines, but...you know, it takes time and i'm a little bit puzzled ;-)
Scanning: Well, the pure vellum has a varius tint, and is grainy, so, i limited the resolution to 160 which is more then enough, because i'm not intend to print, but to export it into a PDF format or a eBook magazine.
I can re-scan all of it (only 43 drawings) at any resolution, if you think it would be better ,
BackGroung: Yes it should be a kind of standard for each page, but don't know how to proceed "as a clever expert will" !
Please be aware i'm starting some complicated application, and i like to take the necessary time, step by step.
So, if you accept, you'll be my "mentor" OK. ?
The book i'm talking about, is a very amusing one, and is titled in french: "Les Quinze Joyes de Mariage".
Trying to translate: "The Fiftien Joyous of Mariage" do you you get it ?
It's full of handmade colored drawings (Jokes, mostly !).
Best regards,
Jean

  • Question about background colors

    Greetings folks,
    I have a question about background colors using a DW template in CS4.The page in question is here: http://www.webrevamps.com/dw/assignment11.html
    On the left nav, I want the background color to extend throughout the entire sidebar. Not just where the text is. What am I doing wrong?
    And actually the same question applies to the main content area.
    Secondly, behind the graphic where the header is.... in DW it shows as a black background covering the entire header area, but that is not the way it looks when posted online. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

    Nothing.  THis question is asked and answered several times a day.  Google "faux columns" to see a slick way to make it look like you have fixed this.

    No idea.  It looks exactly the same to me in CS5, nor do I see any reason why it wouldn't look the same in CS4.

    I want to schedule for background job processing. how to do.

    Hi,
    You need to write a Program to place the file in the Application server, then only you can schedule a background job, you need to use the OPEN dataset, CLOSE DATASETS to do this one, then you can schedule the job .
    To schedule a job in the background job, look at the below links

  • Where can offer  infomation  in detail about  background job?

    Hi,
        i would like to know "background job" well , who can introduce it for me ,or tell me some link on it.
         i wish the infomation was systematiclly.
          thanks.

    Hi,
    Youcan use transaction SM36 to define  a batch job,
    SM37 to find all the defined batch jobs ( which have already run or are scheduled to run ).
    For a batch job you have to define a step , start condition. Step will have the details of program & variant which you want to run. Start condition will have the details as to when should the job be run .

  • Is there a way to keep apps from running in the background?

    I just updated to an Iphone 6, with the latest version of IOS.  It's a great product, but for me there is one annoyance.  There are times when my memory gets low.  I find out that it's the apps that are running in the background.  I personally don't use this.  All it does is hog memory.  Then, to close the apps, you have to close each one individually.  I forgot how many apps I have open, I'm of the mindset that when I close the app, that it's "really" closed, not still running in the background.  It would be nice if there was a way to disable this function.  It doesn't seem to serve a purpose for me in the way I use the Iphone.  I just "cleaned up my list of "behind the scenes apps" and I had about 20.  It gets frustrating to have to go to each one to close it.  Any comments or suggestions?

    Some things that might help:
    1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:
    http://www.speirs.org/blog/2012/1/2/misconceptions-about-ios-multitasking.html
    2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
    - Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
    - Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
    - Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources
    Hope some of that helps

  • How to find out number of background work processe available in the system?

    Hi All,
    I have a FM that triggers a background job using JOB_OPEN, ABAP_SUBMIT and JOB_CLOSE. But the problem is if there are no background work processes available at that moment, it does not return error. Not sure whether the job is even scheduled!
    Is there a way to find out if there are any background work processes available in the system? I know a FM SPBT_INITIALIZE which gives info about dialog work processes. Is there any other FM similar to this which gives info about background wp??
    Regards,
    Shailesh

    your Job will remain in a queue by message handler. once workprocess is free, your job gets scheduled
    by the way, you can use the functionality used in FM TH_DISPLAY_WORKPROCESS_LIST to read the workprocesses
    the command which gets you the workprocess is:
    CALL 'ThWpInfo' ID 'OPCODE' FIELD OPCODE_WP_LIST
                      ID 'TAB' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-TABL
                      ID 'CPU' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-CPU.
    check how its written in include LSDEBF01, form SET_LIST_WPLST

  • How can i make a background color linear?

    i want to put a background color have a linear effect, but im not sure how to do that. i want it so that it will fit the entire browser screen. i dont know a lot about backgrounds, i know that i can make a background color fill the entire browser and make a image repeat itself to fit the browser, but thats all i know.

    WOW...this is exactly what i have been searching for over tha last 2 weeks but i finally found out how to do it perfectly.
    I found the solution after analyzing a site i visited that had the effect i wanted.
    Herez a sample of the page i created with the effect...exactly as you drew it....but with diferent colours,lol.
    http://edutchz.freehostia.com/sample/
    I have also attached bg.jpg with this post as well as the CSS i used; but to see them in action use the above link
    Now all u need to do is create a sinlge strip of image....say 1000px wide by 10px high. On both exterior sides of this image place your linear colurs from outside inwards to cover say 100 or 150px....now do this exactly on the other side.....this will leave a central region with white colour.
    Now name it bg,jpg.....use CSS to place it on your page....in my case;
    body { margin : 0px;
    background-color: #eeeeee;
    background-image:
    url(bg.jpg);
    background-position: top center;
    background-repeat: repeat-y
    also change the background-color to one that nearly matches your linear img color.
    Hope this helpd

  • Background color missing in cover photo

    I created a three-layer cover for a book. The lowest layer was the cover color and the next layer up was a photograph and text. The photograph had been converted into a shape in Photoshop by outlining it with the lasso tool and then creating a new layer via cut. Thus, all that was left was the image without the background.
    The image, btw, was of a cat and the title of the book wrapped along the spine of the cat. All looked fine in InDesign and the subsequent PDF, but when the book arrived, the graphic box that was the cat had a white background rather than the color on the rest of the cover. Here's the PDF I uploaded. Thank you.

    This thread is 3 years old, and Ken is no longer here.
    I saw that you know about background images. Thanks for helping. I tried to use a Lulu cover image and accepted it; 3 times I tried and the image did not appear.
    Tried what three times if the Cover Wizard took it? Ken was meaning images created on your PC then uploaded though.
    The cover was white with title only.
    You mean that's what you were seeing, but it should not look like that?
    BTW. Do you mean for a print book or for an ePub?
    I saw that Safari issued a message box with a problem icon afterwards. I am using imac Retina (new computer), and I wondered if Safari was the problem?
    Do you mean while within the Cover Wizard? That often means there's a problem with your image. Too small. Too big. Wrong file type. Too low a resolution. Any one or all of those. But you say the Wizard "accepted' it. Perhaps it means a Mac does not have the right software. Flash and stuff like that. I am no Mac expert.
    The Cover Wizard (and the main Wizard) creates Print ready PDFs and that is what you can preview at the end of each Wizard section. You need Adobe's PDF reader to view them.

  • Transparent Backgrounds

    This is a beginner's question. I am using Illustrator v.10. I am just trying to produce some text that has a drop shadow and a transparent background. I want to export to a jpg file and put it in a website header so the gradient of the header with show underneath the text. I have no problem with the text, or the drop shadow, but how does one create a transparent background? Do I need to create a layer just for the background, and make it transparent? How would I designate a layer as "the background". I haven't seen anything in Illustrator about "background".
    I would appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks.

    What Rob said, unless the image is supposed to fade into a background of varying colour; in that case, tick the Anti Aliasing in the Image Window in Save for Web, tick Transparency, and set the Matte colour to an average value of the background colour.
    You can find the hex colour values by choosing Web Safe RGB in the Color Window.

  • FileInfo.Delete method appears to run in background

    My app is set up to delete output file before regenerating them.  It appears that the delete operation is running on a basckground thread.  I am not certain what is happening but here is what I do know.
    If the process to create the data to be written out runs quicker than normal, the file creation timestamp remains unchanged.
    If I add a 1 second delay after deleting the file, the file creation timstamp is always the current time.
    My users rely on the file creation timestamp to locate the latest changes.
    Any ideas on how to change this behavior without adding a call to sleep()?
    Mac

    I think it's not about background thread. Instead you're bitten unexpectedly by
    file system tunneling.
    Try to get the system administrator
    disable it for you and see if the symptom disappears. (Mind you, a few common programming techniques rely on this behavior so disabling it could break things. Always set up a test server to simulate normal operations for some time before deploy the change
    to production. If you confirmed this is indeed the source of issue but cannot verify the possible impact, you're advised to seek for other techniques like saving the timestamp on database/NOSQL.)

  • Changing iMovie background during photo show

    Does anyone know how to change the background during still photos in iMovie HD? Ideally looking for a complete white matte (rather than generic black), for when some or all photos are not the same size as the QT movie or TV screen. I'm not talking about backgrounds during transitions here. I figured there must be a way to do this because it can be changed in iPhoto, but really need change in iMovie. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers!

    Mark,
    Unfortunately, you cannot change the background in iMovie.
    If you don't mind spending some money, Photo to Movie will allow you to. It can also do multiple key frames and rotations.
    I believe there's a free trial version.

  • Some background porcess question

    Hi~
    I have some confuse question about background process.
    1.When I set ALTER SYSTEM CHECKPOINT,all dirty buffers are written,is it include non commit transaction entry??
    2.When there is 1MB of redo log buffer,LGWR writes redo entries to the redo log files,is it include non commit transaction redo ?
    when a datafile damaged,we restore it from backup,and roll forward from all archive log and online redo log file,how did oracle know what data need rollback? is the undo segment will keep these uncommit transaction so it know who need rollback?

    Shu shic chun -
    1.
    When a buffer in the database buffer cache is modified, it is marked dirty. A cold buffer is a buffer that has not been recently used according to the least recently used (LRU) algorithm. The DBWn process writes cold, dirty buffers to disk so that user processes are able to find cold, clean buffers that can be used to read new blocks into the cache
    2.Sometimes, if more buffer space is needed, LGWR writes redo log entries before a transaction is committed.
    These entries become permanent only if the transaction is later committed.
    After rolling forward, the data blocks contain all committed changes. They may also contain uncommitted changes that were either saved to the datafiles before the failure, or were recorded in the redo log and introduced during cache recovery.
    Undo blocks (whether in rollback segments or automatic undo tablespaces) record database actions that should be undone during certain database operations. In database recovery, the undo blocks roll back the effects of uncommitted transactions previously applied by the rolling forward phase.
    After the roll forward, any changes that were not committed must be undone. Oracle applies undo blocks to roll back uncommitted changes in data blocks that were either written before the crash or introduced by redo application during cache recovery. This process is called rolling back or transaction recovery.

  • Setting background-image as editable in Fluid Grid Layout (Template file)

    Hi, Im very basic on Dreamweaver so bare with me,
    I am creating my first website and setting up my template file.
    I am struggling with making my background image editable in the template file,
    Alot of the awnsers point me into creating a new background style sheet which I have done.
    I have included :
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="../Background style sheet.css" type="text/css">
    into my <head> in the source code and now im pretty lost for what to do next... I want to link it to all my mobile, tablet and desktop #main divs and then be able to edit the background image for my different web pages;
    for example my home page is one background-image and then the other web pages all have other background images.
    Sorry if I am not asking the right questions, I am very new to coding
    Regards,
    Confused Graphic Design student.

    It's actually very easy to target the <body> of each page in an external stylesheet to change the background individually, just not with DW Templates.
    Normally, what I would do is give each page's <body> tag an id, for example, on an about.html page...
    <body id="about">
    Then in the css, you would give the #about id a background-image setting...
    #about {
         background-image:url(about_bg.jpg);
    Each page would have a similarly named id in the <body> and a corresponding #id in the css.
    Side Note: Stick to lower case, alpha numeric file names for all of your pages and images. Use underscores or hyphens instead of spaces for them too. Servers are CaSe SenSitIvE and a link to Index.html (capital i) will not go to a page named index.html (lowercase i). It will work on your local system, just not on the server because the server sees the case structure difference as two separate files.
