About Books

Hi Gurus,
can any one suggest me about the books for 9i to 11g Upgrade Exam and 11g RAC certification .
That would be great help for me .
Regards,

I am not aware of any book for upgrade from 9i to 11g
But for covering up the concepts oracle 11g R2 I found the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 High Availability: Maximize Your Availability with Grid Infrastructure, RAC and Data Guard+ book quite helpful and of course there is the documentation. I will recommend the 2-day Oracle 11g R2 documentation in the site:

  • Everything you wanted to know about books... and then some.

    Hi, all:
With all the questions and speculation about how books are printed, what color profile to use, etc. I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.
For more information regarding iPhoto 2, please visit the following article:

For more information regarding iPhoto 5, please visit the following article:

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum. If you have any other questions, please reply to this email and we will help you further.
Hope this will answer some of your questions more clearly.

Thanks, Toad. That was very informative. I don't really know anything about McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock, but I seem to have a small problem with it (or maybe the gloss/varnish on top, if there is any). I imagine I'm not the only one. My hardcover photo books have always come out beautiful. At home in Southern California, I can leave them on the coffee table without a problem usually. However, if I travel to humid areas of the East Coast with a book, or if it rains for several days here, the book paper will start to develop a wavy, wide corrugation around the edges that is very obvious when the book is viewed in profile. This does not seem to completely go away when the humidity goes back down. Other, "store bought" books around the house don't seem to do this. Have you seem or heard of this before? Thanks.

  • Is there any way to be sure about book progression using VoiceOver Utility?

I am able to load and display iBooks products using VoiceOver utility without issues, which I'm very                                              happy about. The main issue seems to be in the way the text is displayed, however. I can never be sure how the text scrolls. I might be able to scroll down several lines of text without incidents, maybe a few paragraphs in a row, but there will come a time when I have to progress to the right. Or maybe go further to the top. It never seems to make a lot of sense, and so I am left with serious difficulties reading books as they were meant to be read. I can use the Speak option from the edit menu, but that doesn't quite help, since the system doesn't save the progress you make using this reading method, meaning there's no way to pause (as far as I'm aware).
My question, essentially: is there a way for me to know with absolute certainty how to progress through a text from A to Z? Alternatively, is there a way for me to display the text in a more manageable, column-less way so that text scrolls naturally from top to bottom? Thanks!

Warehouse that PDF on your own server, then link to it from your book.

  • How can I find out more about books in the iBooks store?

I've got iBooks for my iPod Touch and it works well. However when I search for stuff in the iBook Store, there is very little information apart from the title and author of a work. For example if it's a translation of a well-known book (think Tolstoy, Homer, Dumas), then probably there will be several different translations available, but iBooks store doesn't tell me which one it is offering; indeed sometimes more than one version is offered with no info about the difference between the versions. Is there any way of searching for more info on books in the store? After all, someone must have compiled the list.

I always do the tapping, and this never tells me the kind of thing I was querying. However I have to admit the samples (which I haven't often used) do often seem to do the trick - I just sampled a few books, and since they all had title pages included in the sample, I got what I wanted from there. What they reveal about classics like Anna Karenina or The Odyssey is that the translations are often very old (frequently 19th Century) and therefore in the public domain. Nice because free, but I would not normally want to go back that far, so I guess iBooks is not the place to look for modern editions of classics?
Anyway to be fair you have answered my question - but I would love iBooks to give access to better review material (not just user reviews that may or may not exist, but something more like Amazon's system): and really I would like them to have a lot more books from different periods (again like Amazon, or a really good bookshop). But I guess I'm not exactly iBooks' target audience.

  • Question about book printing size

    Hello,
I am working on a book design. But I haven't decided on the book size yet. For now, there are two sizes that I may choose from. So I need to ask some one's opinion who has knowledge about offset printing.
One size is 295 x 250 mm Portrait size. This is a little bigger than the other.
The smaller size is 230 x 260 mm Landscape size.
We use ISO A-0 printing sheets.
The book will be about anywhere from 250 to 300 pages.
My main question is, will there be any price differences on these two sizes?
Some people say that anything a little bigger than A4 size is automatically calculated for A3 size, which is the double A4. These two sizes both are a little bigger than A4 and fits within A3 size.
If there is enough difference, I want to go for the smaller size. If I can set my mind on one size, it will save me a lot of work and confusion.
    Thanks.

I would think the size would be dependent on a few issues: genre, type of content, and the publisher to name a few.  You could minimize costs going with the smaller size obviously, but I, for one, cannot make a recommendation without getting more specific on the details.  Have you discussed the size with the publisher?

  • Question about book chapter

    Hi,
I know this is probably a long shot but here is the scenario:
I design book interiors and each chapter opening page has a specific master page applied to it, the trouble is when a page shifts the master page doesn't follow which means I have to go through the entire book (if the change was at the beginning) and re-apply the master page.
Does anyone know of any way I could streamline this process, possibly by being able to "link" a master page to a specific text frame?
Any help/advice/ideas would be greatly appreciated...again I know this is a long shot.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

This is not normal behavior. Let me ramble this through my head.
If you have a threaded story, editting copy can cause content to change position away from an applied master. (It is permissable and desireable to have one threaded story for an entire document) There is no Section Break character, add that to wish list.
    Yep, I've chased that dog.

  • [Programmer Certification] Question about books

    Hi there,
is this book helpful for the 1Z0-141 exam ?
Title: OCP Developer PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide
    ISBN: 0072193360
This book is said to prepare for exam 1Z0-101. Is it still good for the 1Z0-141 exam ?
I really like these exam preparation books but could not find any for the 1Z0-141
    Any advice is welcome.
    Francois.

The ones most recommended in the forum (my impression) are:
    LabVIEW for Everyone
    And for the more advanced
    The LabVIEW Style Book
I have both, and would say they are worth the money. But certainly your knownledge of LabVIEW will make one of these your favorite (for Everyone came to late in my career, but newcomers won't get the ideas of the Style Book).
Over all, there is only a limited choice of books on LabVIEW. There was a funny statistc that placed LV among the most exotic insignificant languages by using the number of books available...

  • About book marking............?

    HI all
Is booki marking in BW Queries or Portal.....?
    Regards
    swetha

    Hi Swetha,
Book Marks are related to Web --> Portal,
If you want to return to a particular navigational status (that includes the level to which a hierarchy has been expanded) of a Web application or an ad-hoc query that has been created on the Web, you can set a bookmark to enable you to recall this navigational status at a later date. The system creates a URL for the bookmark that you can call up at any time.If you save something as a bookmark, you can display the analysis results found on an ad hoc basis.

  • Any news about book support? (either from adobe or 3th party)

So far I have only made 2 books using lightroom and the software from my publisher!
And the books have turned out very nice, BUT the workflow has been hell! :(
So when you see something like this:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/tutorials/#publishoutput-book
You just want to cry, trust me if I was not forced to use windows, I would probably buy aperture just to make books ... lol
but someone PLEASE tell me that adobe or someone else is working on a way to do this in lightroom ??? :)

See Ian's note on Books here:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lightroom_2_beta/lr-2_2.htm
    Specifically:
"Print quality from Lightroom has always been highly regarded, but the absence of: Soft Proofing, Output Sharpening, Print to File, Print Packages and Books meant that some users had to look elsewhere when preparing their work for print. With the release of Lr2beta we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Soft Proofing and Books are not included, and it's highly unlikely that either will be included in the final version. Whether the inclusion of the others is sufficient to offset user disappointment is another matter."
As Jeff was saying in the Aperture thread... Apple wants you to buy a Mac so you can use something as nice as Aperture ;-)

I would use Corey's book and add to that Mastering Apple Aperture by Thomas Fitzgerald

I think those two will answer most of your questions and add some advanced techniques.

  • Questions about books

i downloaded a few free books from the itunes store and i then i saw an app called stanza. I was wondering. Does each book suppose to take up an icon or if i have stanza it adds all books there and i just have one icon for all my books?

stanza isn't every book but there are a ton of public domain books that are contained within it. Most of the free books on the iTunes store are also public domain (as well as many of the paid ones)
Each application only takes one icon so when you tap on stanza you can search for a list of books to use within that application.

  • How to: print selected pages, same pages, odd pages on a book?

    hi,
    about book:
how can I print only pages that I want to?
Like selected pages, odds pages or only that I want?
How can I print front-back sheet?
    Thank you

    [Jongware] wrote:
I don't think it's possible to set the page range of a Book.printPreferences
Theoretically it ought to be possible. Can't test for myself now; what does happen when you set the pageRange to overlapping sub-files?
I've just tried it with CS3. It might have been implemented in later versions.
In the print Book dialogue the page range field is disabled. You cannot enter anything there.
If you try to do it with a script it says that printPreferences is read only.

  • Booking Customs Duty for Free Import Material

A standard import procurement cycle is as follows.
Customs duties are applied as planned delivery costs in the pricing procedure in PO. The vendor for the customs conditions is changed to 'customs vendor'
    1. MIRO is done against PO to pay the duties to customs (planned del costs)
    2. GR done against PO (referencing customs MIRO)
    3. Finally, MIRO to pay the vendor.
    Scenario:
Now I have a PO for a free of cost material but the entire duty has been paid to the custom vendor.
I created a PO with the custom conditions but when I tick the 'Free item' indicator
the price as well as the condition tab disappear.
How do I go about booking the MIRO to pay the custom duties?
    Regards
    S Datar.

    Hi Satyajit
    1) Maintain normal PO including net value and othe duty conditions
    2) Process MIRO for goods and delivery costs simultaneously.
    3) Maintain zero amount for goods item and actual values for the duties (Ensure selection of goods item including delivery cost items)
    4) Save the IV document
    5) Observe PO item history got updated with IR-L and DCIn. (IR-L will updated with zero amount)
    6) Then go ahead with MIGO w.r.t. IR document
    7) GR FI document will get updated with the non-set off duty values only.

  • Major Bug in iPhoto '11 -- Blurry Photos in Books

I spent the last week putting together a photo book as a Christmas gift for my wife. I was just about to hit the Purchase Book button when I noticed that several of the photos looked blurry. I attempted to double-click on them to examine them closely, but nothing happened. I left the book layout area and into the album where the individual photos were. When I attempted to edit the photo, I got the dreaded exclamation point -- iPhoto had lost track of the original photos.
I tried rebuilding the database by holding down the Command & Option keys during launch, but after a very lengthy rebuilding process, the photos were still blurry. Luckily, I realized that the problem photos were those that I had used the "Enhance" feature in iPhoto's edit area. By clicking the "Revert to Original" button at the bottom right (or right-clicking), iPhoto was able to rediscover a high-resoultion version of the photo (pre-Enhancement).
It was a pain to go through over 100 photos and manually click the "Revert to Original" button, but at least I got my sharp, high-resolution photos back. Spending a week and $50 on a book of blurry photos would have been bitter disappointment, not to mention a lousy Christmas gift.

    Hi Larry,
    Thanks for your reply,
I did a rebuild of the library, but the error remained.
To answer the issues you have with my post:
1/ My post is not about books, but the original posting dug deeper and got to the issue of editing photos in iPhoto and having the same problems as I experienced and described. Exporting a photo in a book or in an email, what ever export/production mode is, it came down to a problem of photo Edit in iPhoto.
2/ Also, I found this post via googling "iphoto bug when editing photos". It is not the first time a thread is picked up a couple of months later, or is it ?
3/ Also, on "the "sharing" by email works but is failing as well"
Indeed the sharing by email works, that is the photo gets exported to the email, ie mail is activated and the photo is composed in email but in the email, as I mentioned, "the photo has a serious quality loss and is blurred, though in the Edit Tab/mode it is still full quality and sharp."
Thanks again for your reply and help.
    Best
    Tom
