About bridge and extreme sloth

Setup: Running win7-64bit, on i7 with 8GB ram, using tools from the cloud (trial)
If this is the wrong forum for bridge there seems to be no forum for bridge specifically so posting here because I'm currently using bridge with PR.
After downloading all the still and videos from days work, (5 videos and some 50+ stills plus the raw formats too), I'm trying to go through them, do some renaming and general organizing prior to loading videos into PR.
At first I thought the new bridge had no right click functions, since when I attempt to right click an image or series of images nothing happens.  No menu is raised.
But, finally the right click menu appeared and I was able to batch rename.  But every little chore, renaming, copying to somewhere else and even just moving around I find to be like wading through thick (deep) mud.
I have PR and Bridge open along with Google earth but no other process is really processing data or doing other heavy lifting except bridge.
Is 8gb of ram just too puny for the newest adobe tools, or are there steps I can take that will allow bridge to function at something approaching a reasonable speed?

In the lower right hand corner of Bridge you will see an arrow.  If it is spinning it means it is building the cache.  With CS6 it seems to lock up the application until finished, and seems to take longer than in CS5.  Thumbnails seem to build at the rate of about 1 second for every 30 meg.  So for a 300 meg video file it takes about 10 seconds, at least on my system.  Once the cache is built then things run at a good clip.
(PS - Processor speed: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q820  @  1.73GHz  1.73GHz)
I see a pause in actions even after the arrow quits spinning (I guess you meant the lower LEFT side?).
For example, once the arrow quits, if I click a top menu item (any one of them) I experience a second pause nearly as long as the arrow spin pause, before the menu opens.  Once that has happened then other menu items or the same one are normally fast to respond to a click.
A further example of what seems to be uneccessary sloth happens if I minimize bridge or focus on a differnt app window such as this browser, then go back to bridge and click a menu item, I see a full 5/6 second pause before the menu is displayed. After having clicked and waited on one menu item, the rest respond normally to a click
A quick look at what a session might look like:
Click a directory in folder (or content) view (wait out a 4/6 second pause)
Once the directory has opened press Ctrl-a to select all images (wait out a 4/6 second pause) click a new directory (wait out a 4/6 second pause) right click to get to `paste' or press Ctrl-v  (wait out a 4/6 second pause).
Not really a workable flow (at least not for me).
Curt Y wrote:[...]
Also check your thumbnals.  I use embedded as they are small and fast.  If you use HQ, and generate 100% preview they can use a lot of disk space and would take longer to build.  Thumbnail options are two squares on 2nd line of tool bar on right hand side.
Switching between "Always high quality" and "Prefer imbedded" I don't see any noticable change.  But that is on directories with fairly small content, like a mixture of 40 raw and 40 jpg stills at 6000x4000. Something like  1.35 GB of data. The *.jpg are about 10MB and the (raw) *.arw are about 24 MB.
One really maddening thing I see here, is that when I've been focused on some other app window, then come back to bridge and right click on an image in a open directory, the pause for the right click menu to show up is a full 8 seconds.
And that right click pause never goes away.  That is, if I right click andwait for the menu, then right click on the next image I have another 4/6 second pause for the menu to appear.
Curt Y wrote:
For some reason if you purge cache with Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder they seem to rebuild much faster.
I don't see any noticable change here following that proceedure.
Curt Y wrote:
Bridge is more dependant on processor speed than RAM.
How much processor speed is requred to not see these nasty pauses?
On my current working machine, the repeated pausing in bridge has meant that its nearly useless.  Bridge ends up being saved only for mass rename or image processing chores.

  • 2 questions about bridge cs6 is always the rotate lossless? and high quality on demand

    Hi
about bridge cs6 the rotate buttons rotate 90° counter and 90°clockwise is lossless ? i mean without loss of quality ?
and my i know the meaning of high quality on demand? might someone make an example?
    thanks a lot

That's why I have never bothered to conduct such a test.  A complete waste of time, in my opinion.
I would not put it that way because it always interesting to what extend users like to go or come up with for testing
But in basic, yes you are right. If you need such extreme test to proof the theory wrong the practice still is a winner. If you can't see it with your own eyes it is not really important but to fill an academic paper. In real life neither you, nor the customer or viewer would notice any difference
According to the discussion about jpeg vs Raw, of course Raw has a ton of benefits above jpeg. Personally I almost never shoot jpeg but I do know people that do to satisfaction.
Suppose you are a sports photographer and need both speed in writing to the card as in post process etc. You are working under know and solid light conditions and have measured your wight balance and set it manual. This provides very good qualities (that is if you have set the jpeg quality to high or max in camera) and shot with a recent good dSLR it produces files that can be published without problems on a magazine spread.
I can't see disadvantage for such situations. However, you have to be aware that for future use your options are still limited when deciding to change post processing. Color temperature, exposure etc etc are far more flexible with Raw then jpeg.
The vast majority of my clients want jpeg and that is what I convert to when files are ready. Yet I keep my original DNG and PSD file.
Especially the archived Raw (in my case since 2008 converted DNG from CR2 files) is important. I can't tell you how surprise I am every time I open a raw file from 10 years ago in todays Raw converters. They have been improved very much and are able to get more out of your old files then you ever could imagine.
And to finish with an other plus side of Raw. If you need to enlarge old and new raw files to huge billboards you will discover that the results of the Raw are far more superior

  • So my airport extreme recently had some nat/dns issue and in the airport utility displayed a warning about it and to correct it. I wasn't sure what to do so i pressed the resolve icon and now my guest network is not working.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Express as bridge between ethernet-linked computer and Extreme network?

I know similar questions have been asked before, but I just wanted to double-check before buying an Airport Express. So, thanks for any help ...
I currently have a wireless network at home, facilitated by an Airport Extreme (the most recent model, with internal modem).
I also have a PowerMac G4 ("mirror door drive"), which is too old to take an Airport Extreme card.
The PowerMac and the Extreme are too far apart to easily connect by ethernet.
I was hoping to buy an Airport Express which I could connect to the PowerMac via ethernet, and therefore have my computer talk to the Extreme network via the bridged Express. A bit like having an external wireless "card", instead of an internal one.
I believe this is possible, if both Express and Extreme have "WDS" enabled? And that it'll work despite the fact that Apple tech support habitually claim that it doesn't?
Also, if it does work, does anyone know if my computer should display the modem dial-up "uptime" when connected? I know that computers that are wirelessly connected to the Extreme DO display this, but if a computer is connected to it via ethernet, it doesn't (which doesn't make sense to me, but there you go...)
Thanks very much for your help on this! And sorry if this is a repeat question. Even the Airport Express is a lot of money, if it turns out not to work as I hoped.
Having spoken to Australian Apple tech support several times, I get the impression that they're not even based on the same continent as me, and seem to be bluffing that they can even understand me fully. So I'm afraid I don't have much confidence that what they're telling me is true.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

Currently I connect directly to an Airport Extreme
via ethernet, and that doesn't seem to facilitate
that, for some reason, even though computers that
connect to it wirelessly can see the uptime.
    Missed that.

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop (Mac OS)

(Note: I have copied the content of this query from the Creative Suites forum where I originally opened it.)
I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad with 23" Apple cinema display. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colours displayed by Preview are pretty close to "real life". I find it virtually impossible to adjust the colours in Photoshop to get back to anything similar.
After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, and Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like virtually everything else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB)? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

…If there is someone out there who has experience of obtaining decent colour management in CS4 on a Power PC, I would really like to know how you achieved it.
That would be yours truly, and I hasten to reply because I may have some insights that can help you too.
Just get it it out of the way, here's my setup:
Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); VersionCue disabled and uninstalled.—2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; 1 FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.
I can unambiguously and in good faith represent to you that my color management, from capture to print, is as spot-on as anyone with any kind of setup can hope to achieve.  Unequivocally and without qualifications.
Now, first things first:  Forget about trying to synchronize color management across the point applications lumped together only by Adobe marketing fiat into a variety of meaningless "creative suites".  Concentrate on Photoshop.  Do not try to use Bridge to synchronize anything.
The "suites" are a totally artificial construct created by Adobe bean counters and marketing types.  The point applications (i.e. the individual programs clumsily bundled together, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) are developed independently by separate engineering teams that are not only not in the same building, but in different cities, different states of the American Union, and even in different countries.  They have very little communication among them, if any, as evidenced by repeated posts in these forums by Photoshop engineering staff urging us, the end users, to let the other teams know in their own forums that a given problem exists and is actually affecting our work.
Enough said about the cause of the problem.  The end result is that Color Management is at very, very different levels of progress and sophistication in each individual point application, with only Photoshop fully entitled to be considered state of the art.
Secondly, a disclaimer:  I have been hanging on to my CRT monitors and take care of them as Jascha Heifetz used to take care of his Stradivarius.  I don't know what I will do if I manage to outlive the usefulness and accuracy of my CRTs (unlikely at this point).  I have despaired in futile efforts to bring the luminosity of any LCD monitor down to where I would feel comfortable calibrating and profiling it.  I believe my monitors are the foundation of my color management efforts.
Especially if you have one of the extreme wide-gamut LCD or LED monitors, you'll face an uphill battle.
Be careful to avoid any version 4 icc profiles, whether canned or generated by your calibration software.  Stick to version2 icc profiles.  Ask the manufacturer of your calibration software/hardware if in doubt.
Here are some not-too-recent, but thoroughly representative screen shots of the calibration results I obtain with my monitors, which I calibrate and profile often and regularly (I validate the calibration at least several times per month).
In a nutshell, my color management practices and settings mirror those described by Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe, Andrew Rodney and Gary Ballard's site.  I have learned from all of them.
My working color space is ProPhoto RGB.  I choose to work with PSD and PSB files.  As a long-time, rabid JPEG hater, I only rarely deal with JPEGs, using them sporadically to illustrate a point in this forum or elsewhere in the web.  My main output consists of prints.
I only deal with tagged image files (files with an embedded color profile) and often recommend beating up with a baseball bat any moron that hands you an untagged file—figuratively of course, but I find the expression gets my point across unambiguously.
Following is a screen shot of some of my pertinent settings:
Note that I have never bought into the "suite" concept myself.  I do have and routinely use Adobe Illustrator 10.x, InDesign 2.x and Acrobat Professional 8.x, but they are all older, independent versions of each point application, licensed at different times.
Be further advised, that the answer to many problems offered by Adobe engineers often is not to install VersionCue, or uninstall it, or at least disable it.
Also, as outlined at the beginning of this post, concentrate on Photoshop, not on synchronizing applications that can't really communicate with each other, despite the claims of Adobe marketing hacks to the contrary.
One big caveat, do not fall into this trap:
    xxxxyyyyz wrote:
…I believe my problem has nothing to do with my monitor profile, for several reasons, but…
…It seems extremely unlikely to me that…
You either want to learn, or you don't.  You either want to solve your problems, or you don't.
When you start arguing instead of studying, questioning advice instead of following it and detecting where you went wrong, you're on the right track to nowhere.  That attitude will get you there fast.  Remember you are the one with the problem, and only you can acquire the discipline to learn how to solve it.
Go ahead and ask me anything that is not clear, just don't argue with me please, and don't tell me why you think Fraser, Rodney, Ballard and I are wrong.  You see, I am not experiencing any problem that needs fixing.  I have an interest in helping you, but not in hearing about your speculations, theories or conclusions.
    Good luck.

  • Frustrating: Bridge and PS5 desaturates my pictures.

    Hi all,
I'm running Win7 with the Dell U2710 monitor. I've calibrated it, and for a while everything was pure joy, until suddenly Bridge and Photoshop choosed to desaturated all of my images!
All of my files are only appearing "native" or what to say in for instance Paint, or other non-color managed programs.
I don't know what is happening, but when I load up Bridge I can see it desaturates all of the tumbnails. Some weird stuff is going on though, because when I select an image, minimize bridge, and pop it up again, the image shows it's natural saturation.
It's really strange, and extremely frustrating!
One "fix" I've found for this, is to choose Proof Colors on, and Proof Setup to "Monitor RGB"
Here is how my color mangement settings are:
It's danish, I know, but I hope you understand the essens anyway :-)
I really hope someone has a solution for this!
I read another thread, about this issue but It seemed like she changed to mac - I hope i'm not forced into like that, since I'm happy with my Workhorse, AKA cheap hardware PC!

    A little update:
This is what happens in PS:

  • PS4 rendering very "hot" compared to Bridge and LR2- HELP I am stuck

Have done all kinds of tests and still get a difference nearly equal to setting the vibrance to +50 and the saturation to +6 in LR2 to somewhat equal the look of the imported image in PS2.
    Here are the facts:
    I have used Bridge to convert the NEFs  into DNGs using Camera Standard for the D700 with no other changes;
Lightroom 2 and Bridge give the same rederings  in terms of colors and relationships of color to each other.  PS4 however, adds lots of yelow, brightens reds and blows highlights.  I have opened the file three ways in PS4, three attempts through Bridge with Save and convert, another time with Save and option click, another time with Open.  All three methods look equally bad.  I have opened the file directly through PS4, not using Bridge.  Just as bad.
Now here is the interesting part:  when I take spot readings for the image in Bridge and the image in PS4, I get the same numbers.
    For example:  R,G,B for Bridge:  232,205,162   PS4:  232,205,163.
    Should look the same, right?
PS4 Color Settings: Prophoto RGB, Gray gamma 2.2,Dot gain 10%,Convert to working profile, ask for mismatch, Engine: Adobe ACE, all other options not checked.
If I desturate monitor colors by about 15% the image looks closer to Bridge and LR2, but is still more yellow. This is not a good solution for printing reasons, however.
PS4 version 11.0.1     Mac OS/X version: 10.5.8  (not using the latest which is SnowLeopard.)
I have sent the query to Adobe Support, but suspect they'll tell me I don't have support and then there is a time lag, also.
Camera Raw: 5.5.097, PS4 11.01,  LR2: 2.5 with Camera Raw 5.5 in the dialog box
WHAT VARIABLE HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED?

Yes, sorry, you did mention that the Zoom has replaced the Netgear. Regardless, if the Zoom is providing the NAT & DHCP services ... which I would assume that it is by default, the AEBSn should be reconfigured as a bridge.
With AEBSn still configured as a bridge, please try the following:
o Power-down the Zoom, AEBSn, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o While the equipment is powered-down, connect one of your computers directly to any available LAN port on the AEBSn using an Ethernet cable.
o Power-up the Zoom; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up (plug-into power) the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-up the computer connected by Ethernet.
The computer should now be able to gain Internet access. Please post back your results.

  • Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014 fails to open Bridge and wants to install new version

Hey community!  I found a few similar posts, but couldn't find much of a resolution.
Last night I was working in PS CC 2014 and all was well.  Used Browse from Bridge in PS.  Everything is working fine all night long.  Get up this morning, return to work, click browse in Bridge, and Creative Cloud desktop client pops up and says something about installing a new version of Bridge and will get rid of my old version.  The first time I just though it was an update, so I said sure, install the new version.  Then, CC wanted to update a few other apps (PS being one of them), so I closed down everything, and let it update everything while I got a cup of coffee.  Came back and it looked like everything was finished updating.  So I went back to work.  Same thing happens again when I click browse in Bridge.  I tried going directly to Bridge's launch icon and THAT at least opened the application.  It was still open to the same folder I had been using the night before.  I double-clicked on the PSD I was supposed to be working on, and then Illustrator pops up and is trying to open the PSD.
***Ok, so I fixed the association problem with Illustrator trying to open the PSD.  I uninstalled my older version of PS CC last night after I was done working, which apparently broke the "file associations" in Windows.  I just had to go tell Windows to open PSD files with PS CC 2014 (even though 2014 has been installed since it's release and that's all I've been using)***
Still can't get around the Browse in Bridge issue.  It is not a real big deal TO ME where I click to open Bridge, but it does seem like a bug that needs fixing.
    Thanks!

I have the same issue when trying to Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014. When I click "Browse in Bridge" in Photoshop CC 2014, the Creative Cloud desktop client window opens up and asks "Are you sure you want to install this version of Bridge"?
Like you, I also thought it was an update so I clicked' "Yes, install this version" option.
Bridge will launch from the dock icon I have set up, but not from within Photoshop CC 2014.
Any solutions to this bug anyone?

  • Transfering Bridge (and files) between computers

I will soon be switching over to a new computer, which means overhauling my files and unfortunately Bridge. I know that my labels and keywords will transfer since they are attached to the files themselves in the metadata, but what about my collections? I have smart collections which would rebuild themselves once I re-constructed them on the new computer, but I also have some manually built collections that I don't fully remember the criteria for dragging certain pictures in them. I am not sure how to transfer either type of collection beyond having both computers open Bridge and manually reconstruct them. Since I am 1:1 transfering my files for the most part (i.e. keeping the same folder hierarchy), the new computer will have the same relative paths which might work to my advantage or might make no difference whatsoever. Any ideas on exporting/importing collections and other features of Bridge that may not be readily transferable or that are not stored in the metadata?

You might want to explore the concept of "build and export cache" in tools/cache.  Not all data is written to the file, some is held in an XMP file, which has same name as file.  You want them both to transfer at same time.
To see if you have XMP files click on view/show hidden files.
    Don't know much about collections.

You need to force quit all other (real or fake) instances of the Application Manager.  Instructions differ between Mac or Win.
A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.

  • Airport Admin loses Express and Extreme, no iTunes, no Network Printer

Ever since I have upgraded to Tiger, I’ve experienced a strange, random Airport Extreme/Express problem which I have not been able to solve. I can sometimes replicate the problem but never consistently.
Laptop Configuration: 15” Powerbook G4 running Mac OS Tiger 10.4.3 with most current patches. System is stable and manifests no problems.
Airport Network Configuration: Network is closed with 128bit WEP encryption. No other laptops attached to the network besides my Powerbook.
Base Station: Airport Express attached to DSL modem with “Distribute IP Addresses” checkbox enabled, running firmware v6.2, stereo speakers plugged into audio jack. Network access is restricted by MAC address; RADIUS not in use, default IP address scheme is used.
Remote Base Station: Airport Extreme running firmware v5.6. The Extreme hosts a HP 1012 LaserJet printer plugged into the USB port and an IP phone plugged into the LAN port.
The Express and Extreme are within 15 feet of each other and enjoy a clear, strong 802.11b/g wireless signal on Channel 1 with a multicast setting of 11, interface robustness enabled and transmit power set to 100%.
Symptoms: iTunes loses its remote speakers setting; I cannot print to the network printer attached via USB to Airport Extreme; Airport Extreme and Express do not appear in Airport Admin Utility….yet I can access the network via the Powerbook, I have full internet access and IP phone can make calls. I just can’t print to the network printer or use AirTunes.
Troubleshooting: I can restore all functionality if I perform a hard reset of the Airport Express Base Station then re-import my saved Airport Express base station configuration settings. I typically look at the Airport Admin Utility to determine if functionality has been restored. If both the Airport Express and Extreme appear in the Admin utility, all is well. If they are not there, sometimes a laptop reboot will restore them, other times they will not appear when the Admin Utility is opened or when I rescan. If a rescan fails, I can access the Express and Extreme by typing in the IP address and password. Then each will show up in the Admin Utility and I can make changes and restart the devices. Even with a device restart, they will not automatically appear in the Admin Utility.
I first thought the problem was associated with the laptop going to sleep but this is not the case. Sometimes when I reset the Base Station, re-import the configs and reboot the laptop, I am able to automatically see the Express and Extreme in the Airport Admin Utility. Other times I can’t. Sometimes my settings will last a few days and I’ll enjoy full functionality then they will disappear. Other times they will disappear immediately, even with a reboot and a reset of the Express and Extreme.
If I use a 3rd party utility called Cocktail and reboot, I can restore functionality. Cocktail will delete all user, system and kernel caches, delete all log files, rerun disk permissions, and run the daily, weekly and monthly Apple Kron maintenance scripts. If I reboot after running Cocktail, my Airport Extreme and Express appear in the Admin Utility. Thus, I think the problem may be associated with a Airport Extreme cache file becoming corrupted or deleted upon reboot…….but I am not positive.
If there are any Airport experts out there, let me know what you think. I love Apple, I love my Mac and my little Airport Network…….but this is ******’ me off! Thus my plea for advanced geekery review and assistance.
    Talk to me!

If the Airport Admin Utility cannot automatically "see" your Base Station, you have a big clue as to the cause of your problems. On a private LAN, it should never be necessary to select "Other" and manually type in the Base Station's IP address.
The most likely cause for the Airport Admin Utility not being able to automatically "see" an Airport Base Station - is a firewall on the Mac that is blocking it. Any of the following are possible:
    - you have installed non-Apple firewall software on the Mac
    - you have installed so-called "internet protection" software on the Mac
    - you have installed "internet monitoring" software on the Mac (like "Little Snitch")
    - you have installed VPN client software on the Mac - and many of these applications install their own firewall
All this stuff needs to go, since it will cause all sorts of trouble with communication between a Base Station or Airport Express, and a Mac.
I'd also be very worried about what this "Cocktail" utility is really doing to your system.

  • I had to reinstall CS4 and now have error messages when opening bridge and photoshop

The error message is "The specified module could not be found. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\Version Cue.DLL

I tried what you suggested and it did not help.  whenever I try to open either photoshop or bridge, I get a message saying that there was a problem loading scripts the last time that Bridge was open and do I want to try loading them again?  If I click yes, I get that same error message that I reported in my original question and photoshop/bridge will immediately close.  If I click no, photoshop and bridge will open but it will not let me open a raw format document.  It seems like Adobe Camera Raw is not being recognized.   One of the updates I downloaded was an update to Adobe Camera Raw so the functionality is there, it just can't be accessed.  do you think I should try to uninstall and re-install Photoshop again?

  • Adobe Bridge and CS5  open when iPad connected

Why does Adobe Bridge and Downloader open when I connect my iPad? I cannot find in Preferences any way to toggle this off. HJZ

The same thing happens when you connect an iPod Touch.
    Here's the solution:
    1) Plug in your device; when Adobe Bridge pops up, just close them.
    2) Open Image Capture app on your Mac (not sure about PCs), bottom left side says, "Connecting this (insert device name here ie. iPod or iPad) opens:"
    3) select No application.
    Done!

Hi there, I cannot open bridge and I get this warning, "Adobe Bridge Cannot be Opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Bridge CC works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall any updates for this application and Mac OS X" although bridge has been running on my Mac for over a yera. I have installed all current updates for Mac and reinstalled Bridge again from CC and still get the same issue? Any advice?

Would you please provide details about your setup?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Workflow issue with Bridge and everything else

Short and sweet. Well, not really.
I use windows - so as a result, for some reason unknown to man (after a decade of waiting), I still cannot see "previews" of most, if not all of any adobe software in the windows dialogue boxes.
think PDF's and the registry hacks we have to do to "enable" previews. But on a mac I can?
So I have to use bridge - a lot.
Now when I have a linked image in illustrator (or whatever) and choose "reveal in bridge" it will hunt and drill down through a multitude of folders and display the image in it's native folder - which I can then open in photoshop for instance - edit it - and Illustrator will detect the change and update. Awesome.
    But aside from running a script to send a batch job to a program, it really doesn't "do" anything else that one would expect a "bridge" to do;
I cannot create a "project" portfolio that would track a client project and all it's related documents.
         Or collaborate with a team.
I cannot have non destructive edits of a document (such as using an instance of a file like lightroom does) - or "send copy to photoshop" and have Bridge stack the results.
I cannot combine and tag collections of documents (make a database of stuff).
I cannot ask Bridge to tell me which documents have placed documents, or (vice versa) which documents are placed into other documents - that would be so cool.
imagine being able to select a jpeg or psd file and have the option to "Find documents using this file"
or looking at a "project" and having a list of all first level documents with all their subsequent "placed content" listed all drop down expandable
So my beef today is that I finally spent an hour messing about thinking I had something "wrong" and went through Bridge CS6 with a fine tooth comb trying to find out if anything had changed.
and nope - it still doesn't behave as one would think it would.
Currently, I have some documents that require monthly changes to images, which for the most part came from one photo shoot, and all have essentially the same perspective, appearance, lighting and shading, but all different products and I have a folder of "preformatted images". So monthly I really only need to update the images, and a bit of text. Being posters, InDesign whines a bit for vector art manipulation, so I stick to Illustrator for this job.
    But in Illustrator, I cannot choose another image to replace my linked image - without either;
a: (reveal in bridge), select new replacement image - place as a new image, which then needs to be manipulated as the "old" image was, "remaking" all the adjustments, and then finally deleting the original linked image.
b: (reveal in bridge) keep bridge open on the image I need (and it's name), go back to illustrator to open the "relink" windows dialogue and "blindly" browse till I find the image I want as shown in bridge.
c: simply relink and browse blindly to find a file you can't see a preview of and guess, or drag and drop, or all the other non practical ways to replace the image.
Option B gives the desired end result where the image I have in a clipping mask, buried in a document in a certain way, with certain effects, is simply replaced without impacting anything else.
But this takes quite some time when there are a lot of images.
So Bridge and its promised workflow functionality still isn't living up to it's purpose exactly.
    Bridge isn't bridging.
With indesign, it's the same issue - you can't "relink" by revealing in bridge, choosing a "replacement" image and "update"
Maybe a "relink with Bridge" choice in the Links menu?
and in bridge, since Illustrator triggered the request, a button appears to "Replace" - once you finish browsing and highlighting the replacement image you need, just click it and it's done.
    So two issues -
Why can't previews of adobe files be shown in windows explorer (still)?
if they did, I'd really have no use for Bridge.
Why isn't bridge actually communicating with the apps connecting to it?
    - and yes, I understand that I cannot ask bridge to go find a placed file and replace it with "this" file, but when illustrator "asks" for "this", bridge should be able to "respond" and give "that" since the app initiated the request.
Bridge should be a workflow tool as advertised - it should literally be able to be a proper workflow hub for all things adobe (and be able to catalogue and track all design file type previews - corel files, cad, 3d, etc)... but as it stands it's just a glorified windows explorer without workflow options.
Bridge hasn't been altered in years, and it's still lingering around - I think - so that we can simply see thumbnails, rather than just allowing each adobe program to make "previews" windows needs.
I can change metadata in windows, I can use freeware to change it extensively.
So aside from the "open in" options and the ability to browse all adobe file types, what's the point?

I couldn't read all through your post as I am jetting out of here.
    Buy this:
    http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
and install it. It's relatively cheap. Screen shot is from Windows Explorer.
Handles ID, PSD, etc., files as well. Though the preview uses greeked text for the most part for the ID files.
    Take care, Mike
