About buying PSE 9...

To cut things short,
I came across PSE8 by chance, I had just heard about it in som photo magazine, and I was happy to find the Trial download and after using it I was rapidly searching for good price on it and wanting to buy it. But I discovered that version 9 was about to come out.
Now I have 6 days left on the trial and not until mid October there will be an swedish version out. I'm thinking about installing CS5 trial to get 30 days with it and maybe the english PSE9 trial to further get 30 days before I buy the swedish version 9...
I don't see and easy way to change language in PSE, and I'm afraid that if I buy the english version I won't be able to switch over to swedish, which is very strange - all other software lets you switch easy, I don't know why it is soo hard in PS...
In this jumble of installed versions and soo on, there might arise problems, that I am afraid of, will I be able to install the PSE 9 swedish and uninstall the english trial/CS5 trial and PSE8 trial and get everything allright? Is there an easy way to buy the english PSE9 now and simply switch to swedish later?

Allright!
And all my Organizer work stays if I uninstall Trial 8 and after that install CS5 Trial? (I have made a lot of Organizer work creating albums by date and motif soo I don't want to loose it - and the backup backups all the photos and I don't want to do that, I handle backups of my photos and videos (30GB) another way. I wish there were an backup of Organizer albums and structure then I would be safe and sure, maybe i can understand that the structure of albums in Organizer is one of those Shared files/catalogs that does not uninstall when the PSE8 Trial i uninstalled, but I would like to be reassured about it)

  • Should I buy PSE 8?

I have PSE 3 and Premiere Elements 1 (which I have never been able to get to work, something about an organizer).  I just bought a new quad core laptop with windows 7.  I am trying to decide whether it would be worth the money to buy PSE 8.  The adobe salesman I talked to probably hasn't been around long enough to know about PSE 3.  He asked me if it had layers and said it had many more tools, but he had no specifics.  I know at one point I had to find a work-around for a drop shadow.  What might I gain with PSE 8?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Janet,
To give a comparative analysis from PSE 3 to PSE 8, may be someone from the forum might be able to help you, but to see the comparison chart from PSE 6 version to PSE 8, may be the below link will help you...

Hopefully, the information in the web page will be enough to lure you in buying PSE 8

While it is against the TOU of these boards to speculate on future products/updates what Thomas said is right: FCPX is quite a new product and it doesn't make any sense to drop it now.
The only thing that MIGHT get dropped at a certain point is support for older hardware/OS as FCP X progresses.

A single user license allows for having activated installations on two machines. An Elements license allows for either platform in many cases (recently not the case from what I've seen).  If you have the disc, see if it contains the Mac installation files... if it does then you should be able to install them via a download as well.  I cannot answer with certainty for the last question since it relies on the previous question.  Personally, I would not let an inexpensive piece of software dictate an expensive hardware purchase decision.

  • I was thinking about buy an 128GB SSD Macbook Pro, will it work with my external hard drive if i plugged it in through USB still?

Well basically I've heard the hype about SSD and i was thinking about buying a mac with a 128GB SSD, but i was wondering, if i plugged in my 320GB external hard drive, would it work with an SSD mac? Or, do i need and internal hard drive for it to be compatible with my external one?

You can replace your internal drive with a SSD and buy an external enclosure for your 320GB from OWC.
    No problems.

  • Advice about buying a new hard drive

I have a TOSHIBA Satellite L25-S1216. I have not been able to boot into Windows XP for 3 years using the factory Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD and the Fully Recover procedure on the back of the DVD packae. I have been using Linux for the past 3 years. Ubuntu SMART test disk utility tells me I have 20 bad hard drive sectors. I have concluded I should buy a new hard drive, since mine has 20 bad sectors. My current hard drive is ATA-6, so I know I need a PATA compatible hard drive. I'd like to increase to maybe 60 GB from the current 40 GB. I'd also like to go with a solid state drive, but there don't appear to be many PATA compatible solid state drives.
And I don't want to get too complicated or expensive; I want to stay with my current Windows XP. Not sure if a SATA PATA interface adapter would work to allow me to use a SATA solid state hard drive or not. I know (from reading knowledge base posts) there is also the potential problem of the older BIOSs not recognizing the newer Advanced Drive Format drives.
QUESTION: Does anybody have any advice about buying a hard drive that would work for me? How can I be reasonably sure a hard drive I buy is compatible with my computer?
    Thank you,
    Bob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

either get a pata drive (you can get larger than the stock 40gb) or use your $ towards a more current new/used laptop.  pata ssd would be a waste and I doubt adapter would work.  also, ms is dropping support for xp so it would be a good time to upgrade to something with a more current os as well.

As far as I know there is no US cell carrier that allows pay as you go with an iPhone. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S at an Apple Store and try it with a non-supported carrier.

  • Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro.

Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro but dont know if it will have negative affects on my computer, should i do it?

Only if you install it wrong or use the wrong RAM.

Use the free Crucil.com checker to doublecheck if you need too.
You don't want Apple to do it, they quoted me $435 to upgrade $70 worth of RAM.
Do it yourself or have a local geek friend (PC or Mac) do it, it's not hard, unles you got bad eyesight and can't see the tiny screws. Use a catch mat, follow proper anti-static and handling. (touch only plastic)
Break something inside, your on your own though. No warranty coverqge or AppleCare for self inflicted damage.

  • Trojan Horse? -- "Don't ask me about buying music again"

I'm really worried -- I clicked to buy a song from the itunes store and instead of downloading, a strange screen popped up reading something like: "Don't ask me about buying music again!" I did not click again, thinking I just opened up a trojan horse. I shut it down and began running my Norton Antivirus immediately. It's still scanning; no results yet.
I'd appreciate a response from anyone else who has seen this or knows something about it. Thanks!

    Thanks for your help, B!
I have Norton Internet Security 2006, fully updated, which is supposed to pick up on adware, spyware and the like. It found nothing.
I also use "NoAdware," which caught a few adware items and an "unidentified malware" item (could've been it). I let it delete all of those things.
I also let my Iolo System Mechanic 2006 do a complete clean-off, just for good measure, then re-started.
I haven't had trouble since, but I'm still nervous about the message that popped up because it did not seem to be related to any sort of advertisement and no one seems to have encountered the problem before.
Anything else I should do? Anyone else ever seen this?
    Thanks,

  • Warning about buying the Charger Dock for K1

If you are thinking about buying the Charger Dock (p/n 78Y7330), be forewarned - it does not charge your K1 tablet!
The illustration on the Lenovo website clearly shows that the cable which comes with the Charger Dock ends in an AC adapter wall plug (North American style plug). However, the unit I received only came with a 6" cable which ends in a female dock connector. You must attach it to the charger cable that came with your tablet if you want to use the Charger Dock to actually charge thw tablet!
So if you thought that buying this would give you a charging solution at home as well as on the road, you're out of luck.

    @remn:
There is no female USB connection on the dock. The connection is the same wide proprietory female connector found on the tablet itself. Functionally, this dock is merely a connector-extender.
What I can try is to plug the USB data cable into the dock instead of the power cable, and see if that changes the way the K1 appears fo a PC. I'll try it over the weekend, but don't get your hopes up that this will be the host cable solution you're looking for.

  • Questions about buying a Zen Visio

Im thinking about buying a Zen vision M but i dont want to buy it and have creative come out with a new better product like 3 months down the line because it is alot of money and i dont want that to happen, is there a new player in the works already to surpass the features of the vision M or am i pretty safe buying it, and about the screen, what are your expierences with the screen , do the movies look good? alright thanks in advance for any responses.

in regards about Creative coming out with another player, i wouldn't know but then again i wouldn't put it past them. but in terms of features, the Vision M has it all so i don't really see why they would need to come out with another one?as for the screen, it's superb, i've already watched a couple of movies on it. i will say however at certain angles, the screen is dark, but if you look at it from head on you're perfectly fine.basically if someone is sitting beside you about foot away, it will appear dark for them, but as long as they are right beside you, it's fine

2.4ghz is plenty of processing, if it means you'll save money over the 2.7ghz. I'd have suggested 2.7 if you also do heavy video editing/rendering using FCP, etc... but the spec you have is plenty

  • I am thinking about buying an iPad 3 with WiFi + 4G whilst I am in New York, but I would be using it in the UK and wanting to use a microsim from o2, is this possible?

I understand the difference between WiFi and WiFi + 4G iPads, but I have been able to find very little information on whether I could buy the WiFi + 4G iPad in the US and use an o2UK microsim as I read somewhere that the at&t carrier iPad doesn't work with a verizon microsim. So I was wondering whether the iPad has a universally microsim card slot or whether they are catered to the specific carrier you choose when purchasing. However, I've also read that all iPad 3's are carrier unlocked anyway, so I am confused with the information I have found.
If anyone could shed any light on this topic for me, I'd be very grateful, thanks

The iPad has a micro-SIM card slot - nothing special or unique about it.
The iPad is not sold as carrier locked.

  • To all thinking about buying an A/D Converter Miglia's Director's Cut

If you search for 'Miglia' in this forum you'll find you won't be alone with a Miglia problem...
I understand that a machine can have a defect, but if you won't acknowledge that to your customers and leave them troubleshooting for years, you're basically conning them.
I, for one, have had problems with my 3 year old Miglia DC2 on 3(!) different computers (1 G4 and 2 G5's)!! I sent my unit to England during my warranty 2 years ago and they found nothing to be wrong with it. Now that I exchanged my G5 dual core for a G5 Quad, I thought I'd give it another shot. Still problems.
I contacted them again, showed footage of the problem and then they acknowledged that it must be a defective unit. (thereby also acknowledging that they did a lousy job when they tested it two years earlier) But, since I don't have a warranty anymore, I have to pay for repair. How's that for good service??!!
They finally did an out of warranty 'board swap' 2 weeks ago for 129 euro's and it came back causing new problems.
I have had endless correspondence with Miglia, first about the machine not being recognized by FCP (or iMovie, for that matter) and then other defects like getting digital artifacts when viewing video on the JVC, the latest email exchange was about the board swap which resulted in a unit that still doesn't work. (flashing color bars every 30 seconds or so)
Yes, they seem very patient and helpful but now that I've read the problems on this forum I realize that they've been playing me like a ... They know about these problems but keep suggesting it's your computer ie hardware ie setup ie software. I have literally spent weeks trying to solve my problems, time that Miglia could have saved me. But they chose to keep me ignorant, either willingly or because their lab and tech dept is incompetent.
I am now being sent a firewire card because they 'strongly suspect' it's the firewirecard in my G5. They told me if it turns out to be the card, I can keep it and pay for it or return it.
That suggests service but knowing what I know now, it's plain cheap.
The Miglia DC2 is obviously not compatibe with many Apple machines. I have had problems with this unit on my G4 400, G5 dual core 2.0 and now on my G5 Quad. What makes this more confusing is that the symptoms were different on every Mac...
I have used my Sony PD150 as an A/D converter and it works beautifully. No problem whatsoever. But Miglia doesn't respond to that when I write them this. That, I find, is malicious.
Miglia should make machines that do what they're supposed to do and make them compatible with Apple machines. Apparently the company can't do that and they are not honest with their customers.
All in all, I'm out 629 euro's and if their firewire card does the trick, they're going to charge me more.
Buying a Miglia is like gambling: you might be lucky or you might lose your money.
My advice: stay away from Miglia. And Apple: please take this unit off the list of compatible devices. (Compatible? Not with 3 different Macs!!)

    G5 dual 2.0, 1.5 gigs, 250+300 Media drive Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I originally bought it to digitize VHS, now I just want it to monitor on a ref monitor while editing DV or HDV.
Thanks for the advice, Jerry, but this is not about finding an alternative for this sorry piece of equipment. I don't want to spend more money to monitor DV footage. I want Miglia to be fair with their customers. It is the arrogance of large corporations I resent so much. Let's knock 'm off of their Fat Sofas with consumer power.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm not going to walk away from this without putting up a fight. Power to the people!

  • Questions about buying a new Mac Pro for 4k video editing.

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking into buying a new mac pro and I have a few questions. I'm a filmmaker/freelance editor looking to get a system that can handle any/at least most 4k formats that I might throw at it, and will hopefully last me around 7 years or so, like my last mac pro has. I've saved up about $5,300 and am becoming more obsessed with getting it asap, but am willing to wait a bit and save up more if necessary. I also play the occasional elder scrolls or civilization game, and might run windows on the new system as well. So here are my questions:
    1. I've read rumors that a newer build could be released this year, with newer processors and graphics cards. Is there anything to point to when? I tend to buy things a month before a newer version is released, and I'd like to prevent myself from doing it this time around..
Here's the Build I'm looking at:
    6 core
    2 D700s
base ram to be upgraded myself to 32Gb (2x16Gb cards leaving 2 slots empty to expand to 64Gb later)
    512Gb-1Tb internal hd
    2. Should I be considering the 8 core? I'm not too excited about the additional $1500, but I want a system that will last.
    3. Is getting the two 16Gb chips of ram and leaving two slots empty a bad idea?
    4. I currently work with FCP studio 2 and love it. Not sure whether to go with FCP X, or adobe. Any thoughts?
    5. I'm not finding many deals for cheaper ram and hard drives. OWC's prices seem to be comparable to Mac's. I want to do the ram so I have room to upgrade to 64Gb later, but are there any hard drives out there that would make it worth upgrading it myself?
I appreciate any insights you might have. I plan on getting a decent raid and 4k monitor in the next year or so, but for now just want a base system that will keep me editing and will be ready for 4k when I take that next step.

The late 2013 Mc Pro uses Intel Xeon ECC processors (error correction), and as far as I know Intel has not announced any newer Intel Xeon processors than those in the late 2013 Mac Pro.  I would not expect to see an update to the 2013 Mac Pro until the end of 2015 at the earliest and probably later than that.
If time is not an issue, then you should be quite happy with the 6 core 2013 Mac Pro.  It will do an excellent job with 4K video footage. And, yes, I would suggest getting the best raid system you can afford.  That is actually more important than processor speed since I/O is frequently the bottleneck when doing multi camera video or 4K video.
I have the latest version of Adobe's Premiere Pro 2014  CC installed on my late 2013 Mac Pro and i have used it a bit without problems.  However, I find it much much slower to edit with than FCP X.  Also be advised that if you Google you will find several individuals on the Adobe Forums who purchased the late 2013 Mac Pro and have not been able to use it with Premiere Pro CC because of either a hardware incompatibility or software issues between Premiere Pro CC and BMD's Resolve.  It is quite possible that I have not experienced these problems because I have not made very demanding projects with Premiere Pro CC on my 2013 Mac Pro.
I strongly recommend FCP X.  Apple released FCP X before it was ready, and many early users were unwilling to take the time to learn how to use this very different NLE which is not track based.  Apple has over the last 3 years since FCP X was released, issued more than 10 updates (all free), and the program is stable and blazingly fast.  I urge you to check out the FCP X training offered by Ripple Training and/or Larry Jordan. Both are inexpensive, and worth every cent.  Watch their training videos and you will be up to speed in FCP X in no time at all, and you will wish you had switched a long time ago.
If you can afford the 1 TB of PCie internal flash storage on your Mac Pro, then by all means get it.  For me 1TB is well worth the cost.
As far as editing 4K video, the format of the video will be important to the ease of editing.  For example, I am able to edit in its native format (XVAC S) several streams of 4K video form my Sony FDR-AX100 with no problems.  If I were editing Sony's XVAC format used in their professional 4K cameras, that might pose a problem that would require transcoding.  Similarly for other 4K formats. XVAC S is an easy format to edit natively because it is essentially a high bit rate h.264 format.
Best of luck on whatever you decide to do, and happy editing.
    Tom
