About:config and bold text

I have noticed that showing ALL bookmarks is very slow.
I understand that Firebug is sometimes cause for slow behaviour as posted on some notices for applications.
I like to check why is this and disabled some Ads-on.
Issue is what is actually about:config and bold text like:
accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar;0
Is it bold text warning that something is wrong?
Ref:I have upgraded to new version 9.beta4

No bold text in about:config means that the value it has modified from you or from a add-on or for a program that related with firefox(flash or anything)......
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar
if you like to read about:config:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries
probably the browsing some times are slow because as you allready known 9.0 is a beta version, and for the reason you tell us, Firebug.
thank you

  • Firefox will open 4 or 5 tabs fine, but then will not load any further websites after those first 4 or 5, or allow you to refresh one of those first tabs -- including about:config and the addon page

Firefox 5 worked fine. I installed Firefox 7, and when I ran it, tabs would just say "connecting to..." and hang. Restarting did not help. Websites open fine in IE and Chrome. Disabled all firewalls and antivirus, did not help. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 5, everything worked fine again. This was using Vista 64-bit.
Upgraded to Windows 7, uninstalled Firefox 5, installed Firefox 7, had same problem. Uninstalled Firefox 7 completely (including the profile information, I saved that information in another folder), restarted computer, and installed Firefox 7 using a completely clean profile. Did not install any add-ons, checked to make sure all plug-ins were up-to-date, and updated plugins.
Now when I start Firefox, I can load 3 or 4 or 5 tabs fine -- after those first few tabs are open, I cannot open or refresh any other tabs -- including about:config and the add-on manager -- I have to restart Firefox. The hangup doesn't appear to be related to what websites I am attempting to open, but it looks like the number is the problem. I have run through all of the FAQ procedures, including changing the max number of network connections to 48, and the problem does not seem to go away.
As a side note, I had this same problem when I tried to go from version 5 to version 6 as well. Version 5 is the most recent version that worked on my system.

Can you try Aurora - download it from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/
And let us know how it works.

  • I went into about:config and there is no conduit in there but I know it is because it is in my startup

I am going nuts with this damn conduit malware. I have tried everything. This morning when I got up it seemed as though my whole computer crashed. It wouldn't even go on. I unplugged a couple of plugs for a while, and lo and behold it came on. Whew!!
I went into about:config and there was nothing in there with conduit. However, it is in my startup in MsConfig. And I know that is what is giving me so many problems. I did see something in there that I wanted to get out, but it wouldn't let me. How can I do that????

    Hello,
That depends on which ones you use. HitmanPro has a trial period, so you can uninstall once you get rid of your problem (there is no permanent free version for it).
However, [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware] and [http://general-changelog-team.fr/en/downloads/viewdownload/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner AdwCleaner] have free versions - you do not need to use the trial period/pay for those ones. For MalwareBytes, the last dialog box in the installation will ask you to start the Free Trial period of the Premium version, '''uncheck that box''' so that it remains as the free version. I think even if you choose to use the trial, you can revert back to the free version later.

  • Stop the updates. I told it not to update in the prefs, I reset everything I could find in about:config and it still updates. How do I make it stop.

I have checked all boxes pertaining to auto updates, I have found more settings in about:config and set those appropriately. Still FF autoupdates. How do I make it stop? FF has the options to stop updates, when I use them the updates continue, why are those options there if they do not work?
I read the previous posts on updating, I understand the risks, I fully understand what I am doing when I make this choice. Please do not lecture me.

Please please please don't tell me how important the updates are and how ancient my seven week old insecure version is. Just tell me if I can turn the updates off. That is my question, and I have not found an answer yet.

Recently I over cleaned my computer with "Auslogics duplicate file finder program" and have since had problems activating some programs and accessing some websites; for example could not load Adobe Reader PDF files. Then I downloaded Foxit PDF Reader and then I was unfortunately stuck with Ask homepage. I tried to access "about: config" to disable Ask homepage but could not access the about config webpage. • Trying to sync Sharepoint calendar w/ Outlook for mac; Protocol Error; Used about:config and get same error.

I'm trying to sync a Sharepoint calendar with Outlook on my mac. When I click on "Connect to Client", I get this error:
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (stssync) isn't associated with any program.
I used the about:config instructions to create a new string:
    * Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
    * Right-click -> New -> Boolean -> Name: network.protocol-handler.external.foo -> Value -> true (Replacing foo with the protocol you're specifying)
    * Right-click -> New -> String -> Name: network.protocol-handler.app.foo -> Value -> /path/to/app (Replacing foo with the protocol you're specifying and /path/to/app with the path to the application you want to run.
    * Ensure network.protocol-handler.expose-all is set to true.
The path I used (which opens Outlook if I click on the icon) is:
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Outlook.app
I'm still getting the same error message.
Please help me to allow Firefox to open stssync pages so that I can sync my calendars.

  • Modify about:config and allow pop ups for multiple systems

    What I need to accomplish:
    security.mixed_content.block_active_content = False
    Allow all pop-ups from salesforce.com
I need to do this for 70 computers within my domain.
To modify about:config, I've tried editing user.js (I had to create the user.js file as it did not exist in my profile folder) using the batch file below.
    Batch File to edit user.js
    cd /D "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.default"
    echo user_pref("security.mixed_content.block_active_content", "false");>>user.js
I've read that the permissions.sqlite file can be edited to allow the pop ups, is there a way for me to edit that from a batch file?
Are these modifications possible without having to visit each user?

You can also use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to specify new (default) values for refs.
Place a local-settings.js file in the defaults\pref folder where also the channel-prefs.js file is located to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
    See also:
I don't know of a way to easily modify the permissions.sqlite file to add an allow pop-up exception.<br />
You would need an SQLite manager program that accepts command line input to add such a record.<br />
The main problem would be to get the ID value to be used.
    *INSERT INTO "moz_hosts" VALUES ("<id>","www.salesforce.com","popup","1","0","0","0","0");

  • Trying to change the cache size of FF3.6 from 75meg to a larger size, it only applies on a per session basis. i check the about:config and the changes have applied but when i restart FF it has reset itself to 75 :(

as per the question, tried to up the cache from 75meg to 300meg but it resets after i restart firefox, have tried to change to various cache sizes but to no avail.
    -=EDIT=-
it must be something to do with the profile, as when i set up a new profile in the manager, the cache size problem no longer appears. but now, how to repair my profile

ok, nothing in that text file helped but the original file that it was based on pointed me in the direction that it might be an extension. The only extensions i have are NoScript and FasterFox Lite version....
I have now traced the fault to lie with FasterFox... if you are not familiar with fasterfox it speeds up internet connections in firefox... several of the options are presets... but when i selected custom it gave me the option of a cache setting, which was set to 75megs.
I have now changed that cache setting in fasterfox to 300 Megs and it is now persistant in firefox on restart.
hopefully this information will be helpful to other people in the future that suffer the same problem.
Thanks for your help TonyE, its greatly appreciated

If you have nvidia video and are using the nvidia driver then add the following to the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you have one) and restart X:
    Option "UseEdidDpi" "False"
    Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
If you are using gnome then select System -> Preferences -> Appearance, click on the Fonts tab, click on Details... and check that the resolution is also set to 96 dots per inch.  While you are there, set smoothing to subpixel and hinting to full, or pick whatever other setting looks best.
Edit: Oh, and make sure that you have the ttf-ms-fonts package installed.
