About CR Developer Advantage

Hi,
I wanted to know if the CRDA is compatible with CR 2008 report designer or just with versions CR 2008 .NET and CR for Eclipse 2.0 runtime only. If thats the case, then is CR for Eclipse 2.0 runtime free for download.
Any inputs in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Karthik.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "developer imposture", but if you are having a problem with an app that the app's developer cannot or will not assist with, go here:

  • About SQL Developer tables

    Hi buddies;
My question is about SQL Developer 1.5.5, I'm a beginner with this tool, and I was reading the table of contains, but I couldn't find anything
about relational tables. For example, what I want to know is where can I see the parent or child tables of any table. In toad you can see that
info together with the field that is the link. For example, I got a table that has relationship with other five tables (child tables), however
with SQL Developer for that specific table, in tag Dependencies I can see packages, views, and triguer. So, where can I see the tables
    names related to this table?
    Thanks for your help

Out of the box, you can't; this has been a missing feature over all versions up to date.
On the bright side, sqldev is easily extendible with user defined XML extensions. There's a [References/Referenced By extension|http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:54:1130207409801024::::P54_ID:601] on the SQL Developer Exchange that shows how to add these missing tabs.

  • About oracle development tools

I have heard about oracle development tools are supported to use visual studio.
I am confused , is it for developing whole application as we design in oracle designer and forms builder or just for debug
    the PL/SQL codes?
please tell me about oracle development tools that can we develop entire the application using pl/sql codes in visual studio 10 or later and having more features of visual studio.?

You should read the page provided more closely.
Oracle developing tools provides interface to ASP, .NET and other Microsoft-developed interface drivers to databases.
ODT make application development of an ASP or .NET application connecting to Oracle RDBMS easy.
On of top of that it also includes a PL/SQL debugger.
    PL/SQL is a backend language.
It is not possible and will never be possible to develop an application solely by using PL/SQL
Forms Builder uses more than PL/SQL, Apex does too, JDeveloper does too.
PL/SQL doesn't contain any graphical interface.

  • Three questions about the developer tools

At my company we have evaluated this very handy tool, and we have only three questions...
    * Will the autocomplete feature be more intelligent. For example pl/sql developer recognize partially written table names and suggest a full name.
    * How to debug and step through the procedures?? This is a MUST!!!!
    * Is it possible to add source control integration (source safe) for the packages/procedures?
With these features, it will be super!!
    /henrik

When I was at the VSLive in San Francisco back in February, I spent some time at the Oracle booth and I asked for Source Control also.
I was told to my happy suprise that lots of other developers had been asking for that also but I was shocked when the Oracle reps told me that they didn't understand why people would want this feature or how they would use it. They tried to convince me that "Generate Create Script" was what I wanted.
Btw, "Generate Create Script" ticks me off. It always sticks the package owner in the create script and when I check it back in VSS I have to go in and edit it back out!!!
It seems to me that the mindset behind many Oracle tools is to work "on the database". I will admit that I don't use many Oracle tools. I used Procedure builder a few times but thats about it. To me it seemed pretty clunky, but it was nice to be able to debug a stored procedure. Or it was until you crashed the SP and it became locked in the database and un-updatable without a bounce ;)
Most developers that I know, prefer to work "on their hard-drives" and publish to the database or some variation on that.
I would love to see a tool for editing SPs and Packages where I could check out my code, make a change, compile it on the DB, and check my changes back into the source control. One more catch, we use VSS's ability to update the version number in a source code file on check-in so the version that ends up in the DB should have the "new" version number in the comment header.
Also, the "Auto Code Generation" tool is not geared towards the type of code I write. I thought we were supposed to get away from writing data access code in our forms? Yet, this tool throws all kinds of stuff in for doing just that and no tools to make it easier (that I could find) to create a data acces layer for wrapping my stored procedures and packages. Where are these tools, Oracle? Help us write better code, not worse.
The autocomplete is nice, but I have trouble with it. For example, if I type a table name and "." it will bring up all the columns in the table. If I type "R" it scrolls to the first column that starts with "R". But if I type "S" next, instead of scrolling to the first column that starts with "RS" it spits out the currently selected column and sticks an "S" on the end. Other times it doesn't work at all.
The "Query" window is next to useless. It should work more like a SQL Plus (DOS) window. Or at the very least more like a SQL Server Query Analyzer Query window. I'll keep my SQL Plus until this is way better.
Hopefully the next version (or 2 or 3) will be better. I hope Oracle is listening. They did acknowledge that other developers were asking for some of the same improvements.

  • About SQL Developer migration objects

    Hi all,
I'm using the SQL Developer Version 2.1.1.64 for Windows.
I've migrated a SQL Server 2005 database to Oracle.
Well, many objects was created, like triggers to emulate identity sql server, packages, MD* tables, and so on.
Well, I need to use all funcionality of Oracle without use these created objects only to migration.
Can I drop these objects? Any problem with this?
    Thank you very much!!!!

    Hi Tads,
There are two sets of objects created during a migration.
    1) The Migration Repository objects (MD_.... tables, MIGRATION & MD_META packages, MGV_ ... views ) and so on.
These objects are used by SQL Developer to perform the migration.
The tables hold the information about your captured and converted models and the packages perform some of the conversion.
These objects are created automatically for you when you Associate the migration repository with a connection.
Normally you would create a brand new schema (ex: migration_repo) , create a connection for it and Associate with this connection.
Then , after the migration is complete, you can drop that schema and all the repository objects with it.
Alternatively you can right click the connection again and choose, Delete Repository.
    2)Target Oracle objects.
These are the objects you have converted and generated into Oracle.
They include the tables,views,procedures,... that you have converted from your source database.
    They also include
    a) SQLSERVER_UTILITIES package, which helps emulate functions referenced in your stored procedures, triggers and views
    b) Oracle Global Temporary Tables, which replicate the temporary tables found in your SQL Server stored procedures
    c) Triggers and Sequences, used to emulate SQL Server identity columns
Well, I need to use all functionality of Oracle without use these created objects only to migration.
Can I drop these objects? Any problem with this?If you have associated your migration repository with the same schema as you have create your target objects in, then both sets of objects will be mixed.
You can right click on the connection and choose "Delete Migration Repository" to remove these objects.
The remaining objects should be left as is, unless you are confident you do not need them.

    Dermot.

    Hello:
After having sold Macromedia to Adobe, you believe that

  • What about real developer feed-back?

A feature that I'd love to see is a real development team/community dialogue.
Most of the features that i'd like to see and miss in Illustrator have been asked many, many times by contributors of this forum.
However, I have seen few replies or explanations coming from the Illustrator team about particular features, the rationale of the choices they made, the direction of new updates, or the vision for their product in general. I find this silence frustrating.
I could live without features if i know that they are not feasible, but i don't want to waste my time asking for something millions of times.
It's my impression that the developer team don't do a very good job keeping a public communication with the users community, professionals etc.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I find much more constructive dialogues in other products communities- and as a result, I'm a much more happy customer and user.
I know that Adobe PR has received (and will receive) lot of complains about the discontinuation of Freehand and that forums and communities are riotous by nature- but I think a better communication would be a definitive feature for the improvement of a product that aspires to be the vector drawing standard (and monopoly)

Seconded. It'd be nice to hear from the makers every now and then.

  • A question about game development

How much time would it take you to make a game from planning to the final testing?
And for those of you that will say that it depends on the game, here is a more specific example: How much would it take you to develop a backgammon game, with computer AI included?

Well, it still is dependant on many other things..
For one, how much people are working on it. what are their skills, what are the exact specs of the game...
We can't look into a glass marble and tell you how long it will take ;)

i create a form by using dataBlock wizard and it automaitcally creaed all text fields on form with dataBlock Name.
now i am writing a ButtonPRess trigger code and i want to retrieve textbox value by using following code
    Declare
    mytext varchar2(39)

but i am keep getting error identified myFormBlock.textField is not declared. How the hell do i retrieve the data?
2)Display data in ComboBox and manually create insert query on BUtton's press event.

  • Quesiton about jme development with eclipse

    hi,
I am using eclipse for jme development with sun's wirless toolkit 2.5 .
the jad file MIDP version field is MIDP 2.1 due to which i am unable to install this file on Nokia phone (E70). I unable to find how to solve this problem .
I can install the demo applications from sun on this phone.
Can someone tell how I can change this or some other way to solve this problem.
    thanks
    @debug.

    And if you would've bothered to read his question for 10 seconds then you would've found out that that wasn't what he was asking. Well now, as for an answer;
Eclipse indeed automatically sets J2ME applications to MIDP 2.1 because this is what the J2ME emulator is emulating. 'Tis a nasty habit. It's possible to set your J2ME jad file to MIDP 2.0, but I don't know if this requires plugins of sorts. If it does, then I assume we'll hear soon enough.. ;)
In Eclipse, go to your project in the Package Explorer and open the drop down menu. Now double click on he Jad file belonging to your project. (It should be at the bottom of that specific project in the Package Explorer.) In the new window (that opens in the Editor screen) set the Microedition profile to MIDP 2.0 instead of 2.1. That should basically be it!
In this same JAD edit window you can also set other things (such as a icon logo for your application, it's name and its main class that should be run when opening the package). Very neat for customizing your stuff.. ;)
    Hopefully this helps!

  • General questions about mobile development

    Hello all,
We need to choose a multi-targeting development platform for mobile devices and need some expert views before deciding. Our options are going ahead with HTML 5 and CSS (which limits us in some ways, especially file uploading and downloading limitations with mobile Safari) and of course Adobe Air.
I have some questions and appreciate if you answer them.
What do you think? Is mobile development with Adobe Air is mature enough?
Is there a need to install Adobe Air runtime before running mobile applications or the runtime is embedded to the application in some way?
Is it possible to access file system of mobile devices?
Is it possible to use SQLite on iOS or is there an alternative?
In a comment to a blog post, someone said that Apple doesn't allow Flash to communicate with web, is that true? (I don't think it's true but needed to confirm)
This is it for now, thanks in advance.

Lots of questions! Here are answers in the order you said things:
Amongst HTML5 limitations is the ability to play sound. If you look at Google's version of Angry Birds, it uses Flash to play the sound. That wouldn't be possible in iOS.
Adobe AIR is very nearly mature enough. Lots of people already have apps in the stores with the current version, but one of these days it will get better still.
The runtime is part of the app package on iOS. With Android the device may come with AIR installed, but if not, only the first AIR based app the user installs will trigger an automatic install of AIR, or an update of that if need be.
You can't roam around the file system of mobile devices, but you can save and load data.
I don't know if you can have SQLite in AIR based apps. If that becomes the most important feature, and if AIR doesn't do it, you could look at LiveCode, it supports SQL. http://www.runrev.com/
Flash cannot load in anything from the web that includes executable code. That isn't a Flash limitation, it's an iOS restriction. It can use images, sounds, video, and Flash animations from the web. And it can read from or write to web services.
