About erasing content on the iPod 4th Gen

I decided to erase all content from my ipod. I heard it would take a couple hours to do so depending on how much content is on the iPod. It has been "erasing" and rebooting itself for two days. Is it supposed to reboot every 10 or so minutes and then continue on the Apple screen with the loading symbol? Please help. I feel completely lost without my iTouch. I really do!

Haha, 2 days straight. That can't be good for the touch. Honestly, i'm gonna say it's hooched for the time being.
You will need to get it into recovery mode (dfu) and restore via itunes.
1. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button. (the power off option will appear, ignore it)
2. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button (keep holding the home button.)
3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can now let go of the home button.)
4. Open iTunes .
5. iTunes should automatically recognize your iPod once the image comes up, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in.
6. Restore your iPod by clicking the "Restore" button.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync/redownload
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • Will the iPod 4th gen receive any further updates since it cannot have IOS 7.

Will the iPod 4th gen receive any further updates since it cannot have IOS 7.
Just to keep the existing software updated and running correctly without crashing.
My concern now is that as new games/apps come out i am going to get a lot more NOT SUPPORTED messages popping up.
Frankly I don't think it's fair as I spent a lot  of money on my 32gb iPod and apple are now conning existing customers to line their pockets !!!!

I would not expect any more update for an iOS compatible with the 4G iPod.

  • When will the iPod 4th gen 16gb be available in stores?

Was interested in buying the 16gb fourth gen. Anybody know when it's coming out?

planb77, Apple is still seling the 4G iPod touches in the new 16 GB and the 32 GB one. The USA store says
    Available to ship:
    1-3 business days

  • I was setting up the ipod 4th gen that I got my daughter for Christmas, and set the itunes store to restricted, and now I can't get on to add anything. How do i fix this?

Also, do the 4th gens have cameras? I see it in the manual, but there's no app or whatever to access it, and I accidentally 'synched' photos from my computer, and can't get them off! Help!

We are going through same thing and looks like alot of other people also. Seems to me Apple would have invalid email instead of us loosing the gift card all together. Very irratating. Good Luck.

  • Can you come out with iOS 7 for the IPod 4th gen

If you can make iOS for I phone because iOS7 is set for
The graphic area you can make it for the iPod 4 and under

No. iOS 7 requires at least 512MB of RAM.

If the did degrade iOS 7 to run effectively on iPod Touch 4 hardware, it would be effectively be, well, iOS 6.  So what was the point again...?

  • Will iOS 7 fully run on the ipod 4th gens?

Just wondering, because so far the ios 6.1.3 is watered down of what they said it would have. so will it be the same on iOS7 just by being watered down, meaning that its not gonna get the features?

Guess so, since Apple has yet to even hint at an "iOS 7", much less announce.
I have no idea, however, what you might mean by "watered down". iOS 6.1.3 isn't "watered down" in any way that I can think of, though there are functions that the hardware in a fourth-generation iPod touch can't run; Siri most notably.

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Why isn't IOS7 available for the iPod 4th generation?

Even though fourth generation is old is should have to stay with the same ios forever

There is a time when the software just outgrows the hardware. That is what has happened with the iPod 4th gen.
It is just obsolete. So you are just going to have to live with that fact.

I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)

  • My daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck. help!

my daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck, home+power for 10-15 seconds. I really would like to not lose everything she has, again, because I can't back it up this time. I have tried charging via a wall outlet and PC and both charge fine, just only to 20%. I am using the cable that came with it so no aftermarket issues there. Please help so I don't have to reset everything again.

Because once it has charged enough to be powered on as soon as you turn it on it says battery is at 20% and will not charge anymore after that, it just runs for about 5-10 minutes before the battery dies again. The battery cycles discharge/recharge daily and its not on the charger at full charge for more than a couple hours and is never totally dead for more than a couple of hours.

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
