About events in PDF forms

Hi all,
I am working on Adobe lifecycle designer 7.1 to generate a form.on the generation time i design a button in body pages.
My query is that when i click on that button a event generates i want to know the process of that event and how to handle that event.
And also adding a subform to a interactive pdf form in livecycle.
Any ideas, suggess.
Points are sured.
Sanket sethi.

HI Sanket,
I believe you want to capture the event triggered when a button is clicked in a PDF form.You can write your script using the script editor in the Life cycle designer, for events triggered by UI elements. First enable your script editor by navigating to Window-->Script Editor and select it.
While designing your form when you add a button to the form, selcet the button and and in the drop down in the area above the form, which says Show:Events with scripts, selct the event on click.You can select the language as Form CAlc or Javascript.
If on click of button you want add a subform, add a button to the form.Add a subform under the default form, form1.
For example, i add a sub form formDyn.
Now, select the button and for the event *click, write the Javascript code as:
var df = formDyn._txForm.addInstance(1);
You can add elements in this subform and set values for them on click of button.
Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Regards,
Siddhartha

  • Questions about using a PDF form online

    I have a client who wants to create an online version of a PDF form that they are currently using. I am currently trying to explain to them that this would be best done as an HTML web form, but I may not win this argument. I have only used PDFs for printed forms (either hand-written or using form fields) so I am not familiar with any problems that converting the form for use online would entail.
    When the 'Submit' button is pressed on the form, is there a way to redirect to another web page after the data is submitted? (i.e. does the PDF have access to it's outer 'environment'?)
    Are there any security issues submitting data using the PDF form as opposed to using a standard web form? (There may be sensitive data being submitted)
    I'm not sure how they plan to handle the data that is submitted, but there are several options in the submitForm parameters - I am assuming that using the HTML option would submit the data in the same format as a web form would. Am I correct here?
    Can the PDF be prevented from being downloaded or printed? This form should only be used to submit data to their server, not as a printed form.
    Are there any other 'gotchas' that I need to look out for? Does anyone have a recommendation for a site which contains any tutorials or guidelines for using PDF forms online?

    Thanks for the information.
    Yes, I agree that there is less reason for it to be a PDF form (Actually, no real reason other than the original form already exists in PDF), but I am unfortunately in the position that my input in this project is not necessarily being considered (my company is following direct -and inconsistent- directions from the client, and I have no contact with the client to ask questions about what their actual needs are). I have been told to give the client the 'Tomato' that they are asking for, even though they are describing an 'Apple'.
    The reason this form is not meant to be printed is that we have replaced the 'Signature' fields from the original form with checkboxes that the user must check to confirm they have 'signed' the document. If they are to print/fax/whatever the document, they should use the original form, not this one. And I am still trying to explain to them that this would be better served with an HTML web form, but I fear I am losing that battle.
    I have brought up the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed that Acrobat will be available in the browser, although I can only guess that it is less than likely that anyone will not have some sort of PDF viewer available to their browser.
    I will also mention that issues may arise if the file is not submitted from within the browser.

  • Question about creating interactive PDF form

    Someone provided me a PDF brochure file that was converted from an image file and was asking if we could setup the form where it could be published online and some of the fields could be filled out on the form and submitted as a registration online (name, phone, etc).  I currently have Adobe Flash CS4, Adobe Indesign CS4, Adobe Acrobat 9 and was wondering what the best way was to go about setting this process up.  I have setup some basic forms using Flash and php to submit form data via email but I was hoping to embed these form fields directly in a PDF file so they could be filled in online... would look nicer and more professional.
    Thanks!

    Sure it's possible. One way to help insure that the original blank form does not get overwritten it to make it read-only in the file system. To do this in WIndows, open an Explorer window, find the file, right-click on it, select Properties, and select read only. You cna do the same type of thing on a Mac in FInder > Get Info
    When you save the filled-in form, just save it with a new file name. If you accidentally forget and atttempt to overwrite the original, it won't be allowed and you'll be notified.

  • Create a PDF form and 1/2 the people can't submit

    Hello,
    I create a  Acrobat Pro 9 form. In it I created a submit button. I then I uploaded to my acrobat.com account to track response. 1/2 the people have  been able to submit it without any problems. So it is working. The other half say when  they hit the submit button it does nothing. I have made sure they are  using Reader 9 or higher. What else could be the issue?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    You're in the forum for the product Adobe FormsCentral (http://formscentral.adobe.com), a service that allows you to create and distribute forms online. We can't help with questions about issues with PDF forms. I recommend taking a look at the Acrobat User Community site and reposting your question to the forum there:
    www.acrobatusers.com/forum
    You could also try re-creating your form using FormsCentral... nudge nudge... just a thought.
    Best of luck!

  • Converting PDF Forms to Word and Then Back to PDF with Forms In Tact

    Hello,
    We are currently having a heck of a time replacing some keywords in a collection of about a thousand PDF forms.  These forms were created in Word without any interactive functionality and then converted to PDF.  The simple form interactions were then added using Acrobat.
    We figured out a way to replace all of the keywords by converting the PDF to Word, and then running a Visual Basic macro that does a Find and Replace on all of the documents at once.  Our problem is that we lose the functionality of the forms when we convert them to Word.  The docs have to be converted back to PDFs, and putting in all of the form interactivity in each file would take far longer than we have.
    Is there a better way to go about this than we're attempting?
    Is there a way to do these conversions and keep the interactive forms?
    We essentially want the forms to behave exactly as they did, just with a few keywords changed.
    Thanks for any help you can offer!

    If you are going to convert regularly, you may want to subscribe to ExportPDF,
    https://www.acrobat.com/exportpdf/en/pricing.html
    And please don't write your messages in all caps; it makes reading difficult, and in the Internet it is considered the equivalent of shouting.

  • Question about doing math in pdf form

    Hi, I have created a filable form in adobe. I am trying to perform some basic math in this pdf form but I can't seem to get it to work. I have few fields that I am using basic logic to calculate one field. I used the following code.
    if (Dropdown4> 0){
    KWH = Dropdown3 * Dropdown4 * KWH1;}
    else
    {KWH = Dropdown3*Dropdown4*Dropdown1;}
    endif
    KWH1 is a fillable field but dropdown1, dropdown 3 and dropdown 4 are fields with drop down lists. I want to populate field KWH based on the logic above. I don't get any result whatsoever. The KWH field is blank.

    The custom calculate script for the KWH field would be something like:
    // Get the value of the fields, as numbers
    var DD1 = +getField("Dropdown1").value;
    var DD4 = +getField("Dropdown4").value;
    var DD3 = +getField("Dropdown3").value;
    var KWH1 = +getField("KWH1").value;
    // Set this field's value
    event.value = DD4 > 0 ? DD3 * DD4 * KW1 : DD3 * DD4 * DD1;
    That last line is equivalent to:
    if (DD4 > 0) {
        event.value = DD3 * DD4 * KW1;
    } else {
       event.value = DD3 * DD4 * DD1;
    There are a number of tutorials available if you want to learn more about creating custom calculation scripts in PDF forms. Post again if you need help finding them.

  • I have a acrobat reader, can I import text delimited data format to a PDF Form so that it can auto fill into forms that was created? If not, what about FDF and XML data

    I have a acrobat reader, can I import text delimited data format to a PDF Form so that it can auto fill into forms that was created? If not, what about FDF and XML data

    Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
    If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

  • A question about pdf form filling?

    Hello,
    I received a form in PDF format as an attachment in an e-mail reply from a travel company. I have to fill in this form and return it to the sender.
    I could print out the PDF form manually fill the required field and either fax to them or scan & send it as an attachment BUT
    I would wish to open the document on my Mac Book Air -fill in the requested field by typing in my Mac Book Air and send it back as an attachment.
    Is that possible? I could not do this in my Win 7 computer but wondered if my Mac would have tricks up it's sleeve to accomplish this task?
    Thank you for your time to answer my question.
    Regards

    Thank you for your time and an answer.
    I do have Microsoft Word.
    I do not know how to insert the PDF as watermark. Where do you find the picture radio button?
    Would you mind telling the step involved  in getting my pdf file opened in the Microsoft Word?

  • Questions about submitting PDF form to server

    I need to add a submit button to an existing PDF form that will submit it to a PHP script on the server. I can find information on submitting as FDF, but what does the "submit as HTML" option do? What and how does it submit to the server? I added a button (also a minor problem, the button text doesn't show) to the document with Acrobat 9 Pro, choosing the "Submit as HTML" option, but when I submit  it to a PHP script on the server that should echo or printr submitted $_POST data, I get an error message "An error occurred in the submit process. Cannot process content of type text/html."
    Apparently submitting as FDF is not an option, because the server does not have the FDF toolkit. What I need to be able to do is submit the PDF form with the information entered into it to the server, and redisplay it with the form inputs in place and with an added image. What would be the easiest way to do this? If I can get the form onto the server in HTML format, it would be easy to to add the image and redisplay it, or possible there is some way I could redisplay it in PDF format after adding an image to it? Any advice? Some tutorial on the other PDF form submit actions?

    Could someone at least point me to some information that provides all the details of how a PDF form is submitted to the server and discusses the options for the action? This information must surely exist somewhere, but after two days of searching I cannot find it.
    I am experienced with PHP (I used FPDF for one project) so a specific "how to" that is PHP oriented would be nice.

  • Is it possible to add files to a PDF form submission?

    Hi there,
    Someone asked me to add an attachment field to a PDF dynamic form. Based on previous research we figured out that will not be possible: our users don't have Acrobat - just Reader - and we won't purchase Reader Extensions. How about using a form field to help the user send the attachments that a are required with that give form? For instance:
    - User would fill in the form and when asked for attachments he/she would browse for the file.
    - The form would save the file name as text on the form (like the answer for a text field)
    - The PDF form would memorize the location of the file(s)
    - When the user hits "Submit" the PDF form would gather the files listed for attachment and add them as attachments - in additon to itself - to the email created by the submission button.
    That way the attachments are not saved as part of the PDF form, but the PDF form is automating the process of adding them to the submission email.
    Is that doable with LiveCycle Designer? Any tips on how to go about coding/building those actions?
    Thanks in advance,
    AV

    If your user is using Adobe Reader and wants to add an attachment to your PDF file... you need Adobe LiveCycle Designer Reader Extensions to do that...
    If your user is using Adobe Acrobat Pro then u can add attachments with this
    var myDoc = event.target;
    var sFile = "myFile" + NumericField1.rawValue;
    myDoc.importDataObject({cName: sFile});
    var myDataObject = myDoc.getDataObject(sFile);
    var sFileName = myDataObject.path;
    ListBox1.addItem(sFileName,sFile);
    NumericField1.rawValue = NumericField1.rawValue + 1;
    you can also remove the file
    myDoc.removeDataObject(sFile);
    you can also open the file
    myDoc.exportDataObject({ cName: sFile, nLaunch: 2 });
