  • Where to learn about formatting Wiki pages? - best way to have a consistent custom formatting?

    Hi,
I'm a new user to SharePoint Wiki but have a lot of content that would work well in a wiki format that I want to input.  This is an enterprise SharePoint system and I am only a user.
I am frustrated by the default formatting, and would like scalable way of altering the formatting.  I need to learn about formatting options in sharepoint but I don't know where to start.
What learning resources would you recommend?
Is there a method for managing formatting that you would recommend?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Question about Formatting Buffalo USB 1TB external drive for use with Mac Book Pro Mountain Lion HD

Hi there, Have Mountain Lion HD operating system (not sure if it is 10.8 or 10.8.1. or 10.8.2)  and have a Buffalo USB 3.0 1TB hard drive. When go to utilities to try and format with Mac OS extended, following 3 files show. DriveNavi. exe, Slm.exe and Mac. The option to left click and erase menu is not there. Or at least not as shown in all the help videos.
It is USB connection so will take ages but want to use drive to store video footage and also partition to back up Time Machine. ( travelling in South America and no other Ext Drive option available too buy) how much space should i assign to Time Machine when partitioning?  Is there anything else i need to think about? as new to formatting. Any thing else i can do to make process of transfering footage to Buffalo quicker?
Final question is if it is finally reformatted am i going to have to spend so long accessing footage from hard drive when back home and editing that it really is not worth if, and i should just write this off as an inappropriate purchase, and try and buy more memory cards and not bother with transfering/storing? Thanks in advance for time spent trying to assist.

Use Apple's Disk Utility in the Applications/Utilities folder to format the drive.
The programs on the drive given to you by the manufacturer is likely backup software (or malware) and essentially worthless, it will be wiped when you format the drive.
I do NOT advise you partition that drive for TimeMachine, rather I advise you not to use TimeMachine at all for your purposes because TM is just a backup, not a bootable drive.
    Rather do this.
Get another hard drive that is equal to or slightly larger than your boot drive.
Format the drive in Disk Utiltiy > 1 Partition, option: GUID, Format: OS X Extended journaled, click Erase and move the slider one spot to the right and click Erase. This will take some time as it's going to map off any failing sectors it can BEFORE you lay data on the drive corrupting it.
Next, pay for and download Carbon Copy Cloner, use the default settings and simply clone internal drive to the external drive. this will also take some time the first time.
Next use Disk Utility to Repair Permisisons on both drive. Now reboot the machine and hold the option key down, you can select the external drive clone to boot from!!
You can update the clone the same way by using CCC, but it doesn't take as long, only copying changes.
This is better than TimeMachine as a bootable clone is bootable in case your internal drive fails to boot the machine.
Use the first drive for storage and be very gentle with it while it running, like you should do for all hard drives as they are subjective to shock damage.
The objective with the clone drive is you keep it safe, and not carting it around where it can be more subjective to damage like the other drive will be.
Remmeber you need 2 forms of hardware backup at all times.

  • Vim newbie question about formatting code

I just started learning vim and am wondering how I can get it to auto format some code.  For example:
    check() {
    for i in $nodes; do
    ping -c 1 $i > /dev/null
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
echo "Looks like $i is up so initializing the cluster on it."
    ssh $i "\$HOME/bin/cluster-setup.sh"
    fi
    done
I have tabstop=3 in my ~/.vimrc and I'd just like to apply formatting to that code block so it looks like:
    check() {
    for i in $nodes; do
    ping -c 1 $i > /dev/null
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
echo "Looks like $i is up so initializing the cluster on it."
    ssh $i "\$HOME/bin/cluster-setup.sh"
    fi
    done
I read about =i{ but it has no effect for me.
    Thanks!

    graysky,
If you want vim to autoindent while typing, customize your ~/.vimrc file. I posted mine here: http://linuxandsuch.wordpress.com/2011/06/19/my-vimrc/ a few days back. I recommend all the options.
However, if you want to indent an already existing file use the indent program. Install with
    sudo pacman -S indent
And then, to indent your file, run:
    indent myfile.c
I'd recommend reading the manpage for indent to learn to tweak it to your coding style though .

  • Question about formats

    Hi there,
I have a whole bunch of videos from my Panasonic camera. They are .mov and in the QuickTime inspector it says the format is:
    Apple Photo - JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions
8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 8.000 kHz
I've never really heard of this format before and was wondering if they work well with iMovie '09? I have already lost a whole edited movie because iMovie '09 didn't seem to save a thing I did (any tips on that?) so please excuse my extreme caution.
    Thanks in advance,
    pvpvpv

I don't understand your question: You appear to have been able to import and edit the file format you asked about. So what exactly are you now asking about that format? You then lost your edits, and have a second question on that issue?
I'll try to address the second question: Your project edits are stored in an iMovie project, which you should be able to find in your Movies:iMovie Projects folder. Your original footage is likewise stored in your Movies:iMovie Events folder. iMovie normally stores your edits automatically, like it or not.
For the "lost" project, is the entire project gone (does not appear in the Finder or in the Project Browser) or is it an empty project? Is it possible it's on another drive that was attached when you made the project, but not now?

  • Qustion about format and s

i have all downloaded songs on my computer and there all .mp3 but they open with real one player. are all these songs ok to put on my zen touch? will tehy work corectly?
And when i wanna upload a CD to my zen touch in MP3 format how would i do this? i dont have my zen tocuh yet but i will in a few days!!!
P.S. When people say i should fully discharge and charge my battery the first few times, how would i do this without burning out the LCD or something? in other words "the safest way to discharge"
And would it be ok to put my zen tocuh on the charager everynight? ill probly use it less then 5 hours a dayMessage Edited by antichristhydra on 02-0-2005 09:45 PM

As long as they're .mp3 format, they should work on your zen, its highly unlikely they won't. Just try them out when you get your zen.
You'll be supplied with software to convert your audio-cds to mp3s when you get your zen. You'll get manuals and everything, don't worry its pretty simple stuff. If you want to start now you can always get various freeware programs off the internet and start converting you CDs. I like using "dBpoweramp music converter" (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm), which is very easy to use.
All they mean when they say you should 'discharge' your zen, is that you should charge up the zen completely (about 5hrs I think in total) and then completely discharge it, i.e. untill it says "Battery Low!" and it automatically switches off. You can just leave it on overnight or simply use it, but don't worry about the LCD screen, it aint gonna blow!
Its best to 'discharge' completely about 3 times when you first get your zen before you start charge it bit by bit. Its good practice to always discharge it completely, but not by any means essential. I frequently do quick charges and my zen touch has an average battery life of 8hrs, pretty good if you ask me!

  • About format OGG

The progress goes on, and now we have the MP4 format, but, as for me, the best one is still OGG, with its better sound quality at lesser size, and MP4 still didn't get these advantage. I know there is a good, just as OGG, codec and format among Apple formats, but anyway, I'm inerested in probability of supporting the OGG format and Vorbis codec in the future versions of the software.

Neo-be, i don't think that iPod's will ever support Ogg/Vorbis, the format you are referring to (Ogg is just a container). I used to be a Vorbis advocate, but, after buying a PSP, which didn't support vorbis, and later the iPod, which neither does that, i had to move to MP3. I recommend you to use the LAME flags -h --vbr-new -V 0 -q 0 to achieve the greatest quality possible. I think this is better than the 320kbps CBR because it will discard the parts of a track that do not need that amount of info. If you are bothered about the iPod support for ogg/vorbis, consider getting the Rockbox iPod firmware, an opensource project that will turn your ipod into a linux handheld, with a better interface, and FLAC support as well as GameBoy emulation . However, i prefer the apple firmware, as it doesn't drain the battery so much as Rockbox. You can give it a try: http://www.rockbox.org (look for the iPod port). Good luck!

  • I was thinking about formatting my external hard drive into two partitions. HFS  for time machine backup

I really want to format my MacBook after I back up and have it clean like a new machine. And I was wondering if I need to back up after a couple of months will Time Machine back it up as a new computer or will it overwrite?
Also if I do 250GB HFS+ partition for time machine & 250GB NTFS/FAT32 to use with windows. Can the HFS+ partition be used to save files from MacBook using drag & drop? I.E. without using time machine?

A data recovery specialist or some data recovery programs should be able to help.  Most format simply rewrite the directory tree saying no files are on this disk.  The bits that represent the files are still flipped appropreiately so they still exists, you just don't have the location info to get at them.  Secure formats and erases rewrite each bit to a zero or 1 or random so the data is then truely gone.  This type of format takes a long time to complete.
I'm not making a recomendation of a particular program but here is one company that does what you ask:
http://www.remosoftware.com/mac-recovery  The cost is pretty high but I'm sure they don't sell many copies and need to cover their development costs.
Good luck and don't write anything on the freshly formatted disk until you decide what to do.

  • How would I go about formatting my hard drive if my macbook is no longer working? Will I be able to do it on an older macbook?

My macbook became gradually increasingly unresponsive a few days ago, and at the moment, when I try to start up I get to type in the password, but nothing further happens.
I took it today to a laptop repair shop. He said the hard drive seems OK, but would like to wipe it and re-install the system. I believe this would indicate a software error. Would there be a way of doing this operation myself? What do I need to do it?
This Macbook was purchased about a year and 8 months ago.
I also have a macbook that was purchased 7 years ago, but are still working. Could I interchange the hard drives and do the job from there?
    Any advice is much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Oystein

Formatting a HDD will delete all user data on the drive.  Yes you can do it on an older MBP by connecting to it via USB, but do you really want to?  If the repair shop says the HDD is functional, there is no need to wipe it and reinstall the OSX.  The problem then is something else.
It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.
    Ciao.

  • Simple Question about Format

I have created spreadsheet in Numbers on my iPad. First column is date 1 (eg Jan 1, 2012) second column is date 2 (say Feb 1, 2012) third column gives me duration by subtracting date2 from date 1 (in this case it gives me 31d) now for fourth column I am using simple formula (multiuplying 3rd column value by 0.25) now I should see 7.75 in this column (31x0.25) but I only see 7 here. The reason being... format of 4th column remains "duration" type only. I tried many times to set format of this column as "Number with 2 decimal places" but no success. What am I missing here. Help is appreciated.

try using the formula DUR2DAYS().  There is a whole suite of dur2???() functions.  I do not have an iOS devices with Numbers so cannot be much more helpful.  The Numbers on iOS forum is here:

  • Brand new SSD. Old drive went bad and no back-up. How do I go about formatting etc. with the new drive. I get a failed message when trying to partition or erase new drive to format.

Installed a new SSD as my other blew it's age. I have no back-up and need to format the new one. I go in and either partition or erase and get and error message. Please help.

    Zachy,
    It goes something like this...
Put your new drive in the enclosure. Use Disk Utility to format it, etc. I'd give it a slightly different name than the original. Let's say you have Old Disk and New Disk as your drive names. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy Old Disk to New Disk. Now you should have an exact copy, which you can test by rebooting and holding down the Option key. Choose New Disk from the list and let it boot, make sure all is well.
Shut down and physically swap the drives. Take Old Disk and put it in the enclosure. Now your system has a new disk with a lot more space and you can reformat your old disk and just use it for large files or whatever.

  • A Question About Formats....

I do weekly video podcasts for students and parents who are connected to our church, video promos for special events, and highlight videos from past events (like trips and retreats). Up and until this time I've exclusively distributed these via the web as .mp4 files - ranging from very small to high definition. I like doing this - it's all QuickTime based, I can use a variety of encoders, and it integrates well with iWeb and MobileMe (don't mock me - I know).
My question is this: how safe am I using .mp4 as a distribution format? Has the iPod made QuickTime universal enough that most people have it installed on their system? I use it both for streaming movies (embedded into websites) and downloadable movies.
My alternatives are to make flash videos with Adobe Media Encoder or create .avi files in MPEG Streamclip, but would like to avoid doing so.

    Hi,
from my experience I see Flash as one of the most used across platforms when it comes to web distribution (embed players)... as many sites run flash object, is very likely that most PC/Mac users will have the flash player on their systems.
You can also provide the file download through a QT movies.
    Regards,
    Armando.

  • About format date in transaction BBPMAININT

    Hi SRM colleagues

Sorry, I had a problem with my PC.
I'm trying to make a recording in sm35 using transaction BBPMAININT. I've to create a new employee for a business partner. At the end of the transaction I've to select "Date Format" and "Decimal Format".
I write these parameters: Date Format = '1'
                                         Decimal Format = ' '
Apparently, these values are correct, but the system launch a error with text: "ENTER DECIMAL FORMAT". I've tested with different values but anything is correct.
What should I write in the screen? Any idea?
Thank you in advance and regards.
