About free non-production Directory Server

Hi, there,
We have downloaded the free SUN ONE Directory Server 5.2 from an ISV site. They claim that it supports up to 3000 entries.
We are looking in the Admin Console and could not find any indicator for how many entries we have already used and how many entries we still can create for free.
Does any one know how the non-production version monitor the number of entries and how could we tell when we need to buy more entries?
Thanks for the help,
citria

In the past there have not been special versions of the server that limit the number of entries -- you are expected to limit your use of the directory. You can find the number of entries by running a query at the base of the directory, search for objectclass=*, and counting the number of lines that start with "dn:". This is easy to do with ldapsearch from a unix command line.

You are correct. Dir 5.2 is not certified for AIX 5.2. It does install though. Like a previous reponse stated. Check the permissions for the user you are installing with and the file system you are installing to. Make certain you have enough disk space. My install took 150 MB of disk space. Finally, Dir 5.2 creates the file "/var/adm/sw/productregistry" during install. If you do not have permissions to /var/adm/sw, you may have troubles.

  • Directory Server 6.3.1 and Directory Server 7.0 agent module

    Hello Folks-
I am having a strange issue with my directory servers. I had three directory server replicas and they were all on 6.3.1 installed with the zip distribution. One of the directory server was a vmware virtual machine running on Solaris Update 8 and after a power failure I could not start or recover the Virtual Machine itself. Long story short, I ended up installing a new DS with 7.0 version (with zip distribution). The installation went very smoothly, had no problems starting the server and creating an initial instance, top level baseDN, etc.
I somehow unregistered the older non-working Directory Server from first server's DSCC and wanted to include this new one. So in my Directory Servers tab in DSCC, I have all three listed like this: notice the third one
    Server
    ldap1:389
    ldap2:389
    ldap3:389 (server not registered)
So having the same host name and same instance, when I try to register an "existing server", I get the following error:
" The DSCC agent module is not registered on host ldap3. Verify that the agent module is installed using the command dsccsetup status on host ldap3. If the agent module is installed register it using the command dsccsetup cacao-reg"
So I went to the third host and did the following:
    # dsccsetup status
DSCC Agent is registered in Cacao
Cacao uses a custom port number 21162
    DSCC Registry has been created
Path of DSCC registry is /jes/ds/dsee7/var/dscc/ads
Port of DSCC registry is 3998
    # dsccsetup cacao-reg
    DSCC Agent is already registered.
So what is the problem? Why cant I register my new server and create replication agreements with the others?
Please let me know if you have more information
    Thanks.
    Deniz.

Anybody??? I really need help with this....

  • Info about Japanese iPlanet Directory server

I am evaluating Japanese localized version of directory server.
I am not able to find any document which can tell me about the

    I have following questions:
    1. What level of localization is done. Has console localized ?
    Does log messages localized.
    2. What env variables I need to set to see console GUI in Japanese
    3. Do I need to set some env variables (like $LANG) before running the start script.
It is urgent for me, if somebody can answer these or point me to some good doc, it will great

    Hi,
Info about japanese iPlanet directory Server.
Gateway is localized for English, Japanese, French, Spanish, and German. You can configure the gateway to support additional locales.
Language files are stored in /usr/iplanet/servers/dsgw/html/lang and /usr/iplanet/servers/dsgw/config/lang, where lang is defined in RFC1766.
For example, language files for Japanese are stored in /usr/iplanet/servers/dsgw/html/ja and /usr/iplanet/servers/dsgw/config/ja[true]).
Support for the character sets necessary to render a particular locale (language) must be available in the browser's configuration.

  • Is Sun Directory Server free to use

    Hello, everyone:
I am evaluating the Sun directory server 6 (DSEE) for one government project. And from some news, I heard that Sun had made its server product free of use and only charge the fees for support. Is that ture?
    Thanks.

Hi eviladmin, the licensing is a bit hard to decode but it only indicates that you need to buy an entitlement if you want service and support from Sun.
So here are the pieces that outline this from the license file when you download DSEE:
    A. ENTITLEMENT for SOFTWARE. Capitalized terms not defined
in this Entitlement have the meanings ascribed to them in
the SLA (attached below as Section B). These terms will
supersede any inconsistent or conflicting terms in the SLA.
Licensee ("You"): The entity receiving the Software from
    Sun.
Effective Date: Date You receive the Software.
License Term: Perpetual (subject to termination under the
    SLA).
    Licensed Unit: Software Copy.
    Licensed Unit Count: Unlimited.
Permitted Uses: You may reproduce and use the Software
internally for Your own Individual, Commercial, Service
Provider, or Research and Instructional Use, subject to and
conditioned on Your compliance with the Additional Terms
    below.
    Additional Terms:
    3. If You would like to purchase Service for the Software,
You must first purchase a separate Entitlement to the
Software. Sun will not provide Service to You for Software
provided under this Entitlement. You may, however, purchase
support under this Entitlement for Solaris 10, Sun
Management Center, Sun Studio, Java Studio Enterprise, Java
    Studio Creator, and Netbeans IDE.
Hope that helps clarify this better.

  • Active Directory - Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 (Server Formatting or not productive

Hello guys, I come here to try to clarify a great doubts regarding Server Operating Systems, I will attempt to detail the most of my scenario.
Suppose I have a Server 2008 R2 in production, and this is my Active Directory server (meudominio.local) and am managing through Group Policy settings my workstations that are around 60-70 computers, guys my doubts the thing is, if I need some time to format
and perform a fresh installation of my server as it will be my Active Directory? Of course I will have lost my domain controller and I have to accomplish the placement of each workstation again that enters my domain one by one.
I know there is the option of AD replication, so we call the Active Directory, even for another version of the Operating System, prátia already realized this, but it most often comes not functioning properly, done without replication problems Server 2003 to
    2008 R2.
Guys like to know a solution to not having to put my plants in my domain network again one by one, is there any way to backup so that when I reinstalled the system and the AD again in my server stations return to "see" again that server as your domain
controller, even me installing AD with the same domain name before this formatting stations do not respond to this driver in this case do the Network ID or add the station to the area again, so she creates a new user profile for example (Max.meudominio) while
your old profile "guy" still remains on the machine, I adopted the practice of editing the record of this newly created profile and pointing him well for the old user folder which contains all data and settings, eg edit my key "ProfileImagePath"
regedit logged in with the newly created profile (Max.meudominio) ->
(switch "ProfileImagePath" C:\Users\Max.meudominio) thus pointing to the folder before replacing in the field again this season after formatted server, thus ->
(Switch "ProfileImagePath" C:\Users\Max), detail that we give permission for all such user "C:\Users\Max" folder, after that restart the computer and he comes back with the user profile and all your settings.
I wonder if there is another method to perform this procedure, do not know even a backup AD to not have to replace all the seasons again "meudominio.local".
    Thank you for your attention!

As the practice of replication I know her mostly said she has some flaws when I do the replication of my domain to another server but it works correctly, so having a server "master" and the other ServidorBKP as "slave", in redundancy,
the problem is when I say, and put the "ServidorBKP" being my primary domain controller and disabling my main controller, to disable or turn off my main controller the stations themselves are unable to login because it does not communicate with the
my ServidorBKP "slave" even I put it as the main driver of course.
Regarding the System State as far as I know this option existed in Server 2003.

  • Patching WebLogic server - Unable to locate the specified product directory

We are trying to apply the October CPU patch to our WebLogic 10.3.6 installation on Windows Server 2003.  However, when we run the below command:
    bsu -install -patch_download_dir=E:\ofm11g\utils\bsu\cache_dir -patchlist=BYJ1 -prod_dir=E:\ofm11g\wlserver_10.3
    We receive this error:
Unable to locate the specified product directory.[E:\ofm11g\wlserver_10.3]
That directory is valid.  We are running two instances using this WLS installation - Oracle Reports 11.1.1.6 and Oracle Portal 11.1.1.6.  We are trying to apply the patch with the same user that installed the software.
I was able to successfully run this command on a different server that runs Oracle Internet Directory 11.1.1.6.
    Any ideas?

I was able to fix this by ensuring that E:\ofm11g\wlserver_10.3 contained two files: .home and .product.properties.  After I copied these from a different server and edited to fit my environment, I was able to successfully install this patch.

  • How to disable non secure port on Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2

Hi, can someone tell me how to disable the non secure port 389 on the SJS Directory Server 5.2? I only see two options for the directory server to listen on the non secure port or both secure and non secure ports. I see that someone mentioned to change the port the loopback ip address but the gui doesn't allow that.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

Yep! You can add the loopback address to the listen host attr, directly to the dse.ldif (insntace stopped of course) or ldapmodify the config entry

    Hi
It's easy enough to 'connect' any version of OS X Server to any other version of OS X Server. Use the Join button in the Users & Groups Preferences Pane. Alternatively use the Directory Utility itself.
You seem to be misunderstanding what an Open Directory Master and Replica are? They are not what I think you think they are. They are not a 'back-up' of each other if you're providing more than the shared Directory Service.
An OD Replica maintains a read-only copy of the LDAP Database (Usernames, Passwords and Policies etc) that's stored on the OD Master and nothing more. If the Master was to go offline for any reason the Replica can be quickly promoted to a Master Role and continue to provide information for the shared directory. This assumes it has easy and quick access to the Volume storing networked home folders? The LDAP Database in that case would then become writable. Later on and whenever you've fixed the problem with the old Master it can quickly be demoted and made a Replica of the now new Master.
Although this is for 10.6 Server (it is nevertheless still applicable) everything you need to know about Master and Replica relationships is here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/OpenDirAdmin_v10.6.pdf
    Page 55 onwards.
    From Page 64:
"The Open Directory master and its replicas must use the same version of Mac OS X Server. . ."
If your OD Master is also providing Mail, Calendar and Contact Services then none of these will be replicated. You will have to maintain a backup of these databases yourself using whatever method you deem fit for your needs.

  • Which directory server for naming?

We are currently using OID for our Oracle naming resolution.  We are not running Identity Management, Portal, or any of the myriad of other middleware products that rely on directory server.
I need to migrate the OID to new hosts.  I've been flailing about with ODSEE, not realizing that Oracle has 3 different directory servers -- OID, OUD, and ODSEE.  Which one of these would be the best to use for this purpose?   Also, which one would leave me in the best position if we do adopt one of these other products?

OUD is the best option as it supports TNS Names and EUS like OID does. I don't think ODSEE is an option here.

  • Single directory Server for Messaging and Portal

We are trying to unify our directory services.
At present, there two directory servers, one for iPlanet messaging 5.2 and another for Portal server 6.0.
Messaging's Directory server is v5.1 and Portal's Directory server is v5.2. Their BaseDN is same.
Now, What we are planning to do is as below.
    1. LDIF everything from Msgr Directory and import into Portal's Directory.
    2. Point Msg Server to the Portal's directory.
But, we are not sure what to export or how to tell messaging server to look at the Portal's Directory. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks
    Srini

What you are trying to do is non-trivial.
Setting the ldap server for user and groups on the mail server is easy enough -- look at the output of configutil and you will find the values of local.ugldap*
define the values you need to change.
    e.g.:
    local.ugldapbasedn
    local.ugldapbindcred
    local.ugldapbinddn
    local.ugldaphost
    local.ugldapport
    etc.
These are all listed in the messaging reference manual.
You need to ensure that the schemas of the two apps. match. For example, if you are using schema 1 for mail and schema 2 for the portal (quite likely), there will be a lot more work to do on the directory than simply moving the user entries accross and merging them.
Unless you have done this sort of thing before, or feel very comfortable and knowlegable about how the messaging server in partuicular works with LDAP, I would suggest that you seriously consider getting help from Sun Professonal Services.

  • Using Time Machine to backup a production file server

Does anyone have any recommendations for using Time Machine to back up a production file server? Right now we have an Xserve G5 with two internal 750GB drives in a RAID1 as our main file share to about 25 users, and a large external FW800 Guardian MAXimus drive to hold our backups. Our current backup system is a custom-written version of Mike Rubel's backup system -- http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ -- incremental backups done with rsync and cp with hardlinks exec'd via crontab, which seems to be very similar to what Time Machine does. Unfortunately, I've been finding it difficult to find any tech specs on Time Machine as far as:
    * CPU and IO priority - This is a production file server, so I'd prefer to keep this from sucking power performance from the users. Just how much CPU, and more importantly IO, should I expect it to eat?
    * How often it does a backup - The best answer I've found is "always", but I wanted to know if there was a more concrete response for this. Does the system hook into the kernel to see whenever a file gets written out so it doesn't have to continually scan the entire drive?
    * Command line restoration - Are there any good utilities for recovering via SSH, or am I going to have to VNC to the server and do the BS magic flying screen just to restore a file?
    Message was edited by: Gabetax

For mine I have 3x500GB drives in the server, two are RAID mirror and the third is time machine backup. I just turned on time machine in system preferences and set the backup drive, and after an hour it made the first backup.
Seems to work perfectly although I have heard a couple of rumours that the mail server causes the backup to grow forever, but havnt checked this. Im staging another machine, so perhaps will try this to make sure!
I am expecting the backup will only be useful to a system administrator, and am not sure how a user logged into a shared directory account (i.e 'roaming profile') would access the backup, and somehow suspect they wont be able to just seamlessly use the slick interface as if the backup were their own.
On a 2x2Ghz G5 it didnt seem to use the full load on either the CPU or the disk the first time it was run (copied at about 9MB/sec throughout). The incremental backups are very fast, and are often completed before I realise they have started. I gather it uses Apple's own spotlight API to find changed files, so isnt like an rsync which scans entire volumes. Worth checking the exclusion filters though, no point backing up any large cache/log files you may be storing.

  • URL to be used in high availability for Directory Server

    Hi All,
I have an environment configured for high availability. I have two OVD and OID servers each in this environment, configured in high availability. What should be the value in the Server URL field of the Directory Server IT Resource in the OIM for this environment? In the normal environment, I had it as "ldap://ovdhost01:6501" and it was working fine. But since there are two servers here, I am not sure what URL to use in place of this. The entry for the two ovd hosts in the OHS is "idstore.com" which is configured on 6501 port. But I tried using the following URLs and none of them worked:
    1. idstore.com
    2. ldap://idstore.com
    3. ldap://idstore.com:6501
    4. ldap://ovdhost01:6501,ldap://ovdhost01:6501
Can someone help me know the correct URL to be used in this case?
    Thanks,
    $id

Not sure about OVD or OID but for SOA and OIM:
    SOA:
    XMLConfig -> XMLConfig.SOAConfig -> SOAConfig
    Rmiurl -> t3://soahost1:soaport1,soahost2:soaport2
Soapurl -> Load balancer or web server url (without the /workflow context)
    OIM:
    XMLConfig -> XMLConfig.DiscoveryConfig -> Discovery
OimFrontEndUrl -> Load balance or web server url (without the /oim context)
And ofcourse on your LB or WebServer, you need to configure these:
    SOA: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/core.1111/e10106/ha_soa.htm#CHDDJEGD
    OIM: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e10106/imha.htm#BGBDFEIE
