About GET_FILE_NAME in Oracle Forms 9i

Hai,
I am using Forms 9i.GET_FILE_NAME is ot working.SO i download Oracle webutil for 10g.I am using 10g database.
How to configue Webutil?
Please anybody can clarrify this?.

Andy,
the built-in operates where the runtime is, which is the server. Forms 9i is web only and for this reason the built-in no longer works as it did. Use webutil (see otn.oracle.com/products/forms), which has this function (prefixed with "client_") to do exactly what you want it to do.

• What about future of Oracle Forms Developer?

I heard, in future entire Oracle Apps will be in Java and Jdeveloper tools without Oracle Forms. In that case Oracle Forms will not stand as a stand alone tool for development. Now a day even small companies also prefer ERP solution. So what will be the future who is fully working on Oracle Forms and Reports?

Thnaks... But still I couldn't see anyone saying
Forms is forever. In future it will be supported by
Oracle but not recomended by Oracle is it?Then again ... J2EE is not 'forever' either.
The moment anyone comes along with and interestng tool set and enough money to do some serious marketing, you will find a lot of people who will jump to it, simply because it resolves some of their problems. (But not all!)
I started working with Oracle Forms 2.3 and have heard an almost annual 'Forms is dead' since 1993. Fourteen years later, those who claim 'Forms is dead' are still looking for replacements of their favorite substitutes of Forms (such as PowerBuilder)
My recomnmendation around Forms - as with all technology - is simple: if it (Forms, J2EE, whatever) works for your purposes, use it. Your app will need revising inside 5 years, and you can re-evaluate the technoloy at that time.

• Integration of BIP and Oracle Forms

Hi Gurus
I have been referring to a whitepaper 'How to integrate Oracle BI Publisher via Web Services in Oracle Forms' version 2.2
It mentions about using version Oracle Forms 10.1.2.3 and Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3.4
I am using Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2 and JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0
Do these versions support integration of BIP 10.1.3.4 with Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2 via Web Services?
If yes, is there any document which details the steps?
Thanks and kind regards,
Aparna

Hi,
you do not have to go on ETL route, unless there are other initiative towards warehouse. you can check fusion intelligence implementation document to see how to configure instanceconfig.xml file and other implementation details to take advantage of BI with EBS.

Hi to everyone,
This is a rant on the stupidity of Oracle Forms. From my point of view, it is pointless and VERY PAINFUL to develop.
Come on, who in the right would use Oracle FORMS to develop database applications? Heck, I can develop my very own web application in Servlet and JSP twice as quick as this piece of crappy framework can produce. Who are you trying to kid? Tie down PL/SQL to the application level? The very idea of FORMS is bullshit.
To whoever who is reading this, please flame me all you want. Oracle Forms is a crappy product. Dont't waste your time and efforts using it. You are better off using some other MORE PRODUCTIVE framework. So there.Hello,
I have seen many threads speaking about forms future but discussions were also MORE PRODUCTIVE as your framework
pointless ? I think your thread is pointless...
I will not make the pro-forms against the world... There are so many tools, just make the right choice for your needs.

• Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.

Sorry to interrupt all of you.
I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
As I would like to
I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
Connecting....
The test did not succeed.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.
After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
XE=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
(PORT=1521)
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SERVER=dedicated)
(SERVICE_NAME=XE)
)Hope this helps,
Craig B-)

• Advice about transitioning from a Forms developer to Oracle Applications.

Hi guys,
I need some advice and input about the subject.
I have been an Oracle programmer for 8+ years and worked on various versions
of the database and front end tools upto the lastest versions.
With extensive experience in forms, how smooth would the transition be to
being a technical programmer in Oracle Applications / EBS 11i/12.
Since the applications front end in build on Oracle Forms platform,
what more would I need to get a position as a Technical Consultant?
Do I need a very strong understanding of subject areas like accounting, supply chain etc...
I intent to certify in at least the Financial modules.
I would appreciate any input on this subject.
Thanks

• Would like to ask about Pros&Cons betwwen Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF

Hi,
Is there some material about the pros&cons between Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF, from angles like technical architecture, performance, network efficiency, etc...
Asking this becuase EBS cusotmer is familiar with Oracle Forms and OAF, when we talking about ADF to them, it is quite confused especially about OAF and ADF, finding material to elaborate these 3 technology clearly, thanks
- Liang Yi

Thanks, I check the comparison of OAF and ADF document downloaded from Oracle Support, but it is for ADF10g, I believe ADF11g is much better, and anyone check the comparison table between ADF 10g and OAF R12 would choose OAF.
And, from the document, I saw one line that is very confused, check it out, do not understand what does it mean with "if your application does not need to integrate with EBS... ... you should use ... ... integration with EBS" -_-!
"If your application does not need to integrate with the
E-Business Suite, or doesn't require any of the E-Business Suite-specific
capabilities enumerated above, you should use ADF 10g with SOA based
integration with E-Business Suite."

• Need information about Oracle Forms & Reports server installation

Hello Friends,
First of all I am very new user for oracle forums, So please ignore if I posted wrong place.
We are using Oracle Database 10g and Oracle forms & Reports server 6i version.
We just purchased oracle forms & reports (currently known as a Oracle Fusion middleware) license. As per my knowledge latest version doesn't support Oracle 10g database.
My question is can somebody give me Oracle Database 10g supported Forms & Reports version?
We are planning to upgrade.
Help would be really appreciated.
Thanks & Regards.

Thanks a lot for prompt response.
I get my answer from your certification matrix. I appreciate your response.
Now second question arise that We are using currently Database version of 10.2.0.1.0.
And in a certification matrix shows supported version Oracle 10.2.0.4+.
Now I am bit confused that currently working database supports or not?
Still i am trying to install on My window 2008 R2 with IIS 7.0.
Let me check what happens.
Again Thanks a lot to ccortez and PaulM for your quick response and help.

Fnd the forms.jar file in the system. Make a note of the complete path For example if the forms.jar file is in C:\abcd\xyz\ , the path of this file is C:\abcd\xyz\forms.jar .
Open the server.xml file which you can find under C:\Sun\AppServer7\domains\domain1\server1\config and add the above PATH like this
server-classpath="C:\abcd\xyz\forms.jar;C:/Sun/AppServer7/lib/appserv-rt.jar ......

i have created menus in oracle forms using menu editor, now i want to show the created menu in the form while running ,how can i show menu in the form,
reply soon please

save and compile your menu module.
open the property sheet of the form to which you want to attach them menu,
On the "Menu Module" property give the full path of the menu you want to attach.
if the menu is in the same path where your forms modules are then just give the menu module name.

• About any free edition of oracle forms

hi all,
is there any release of oracle forms which i can use for production purposes ? 6i for example or earlier ?
thanks

Just visit the link I gave you, and click the things together which you'd need; as far as forms goes the minimum on licenses would be 10 named users. As far as the memory consumption goes: this is not up to you; the type of the installation will decide for you how much ressources you'd need. As for the Forms 11g installation that would mean 3 instances of weblogic which would consume from 512MB to 1GB Memory each; no matter if you run 1 or 10 forms runtimes. The configuration might be suitable for big installation, but as previously said with smaller installation a total overkill. And in your one-session scenario I'd even consider it a no-go.
So for a single user application I'd definitely not use Forms, and as far as the database goes I'd depend that on the amount of data you want to collect / analyze. There are other databases available; a lot of them are free. Oracle XE is one of them:
Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2</title><meta name="Title" content="Oracle Database…
but then you'd need to decide for yourself if even a XE installation would be an overkill for a Single User application.
cheers

• Unable to do UPDATE in Oracle Form 10.1.2

Hi,
I am using an LOV to query data from a master-type table.
-- WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED in button Retrieve
declare
l_number number;
a_value_chosen boolean;
begin
a_value_chosen := Show_LOV('LOV_CUSTOMER');
if not a_value_chosen then
message('No value selected');
raise form_trigger_failure;
end if;
end;First, I choose a value from the LOV. The LOV showed the selected items in the Form.
Next, I modified some values (not the Primary Key) in the Form text items.
Finally, I tried to Save the modification into table, using
-- WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED in button Save
commit_form;
clear_form;Surprisely, it showed
FRM-40508: ORACLE error, unable to INSERT record.
BTW,
Previuosly, I can do UPDATE if I use the Enter Query and Execute Query button.
I did not attempt to do inserting, just updating.
Could someone show where is the problem?
Is the form status not changed by the query returned from LOV?
Any help would be grateful.
Many thanks,
Imelda

Hi,
Glad I found all of you in this forum.
Thanks for all of the explanations.
I thought by using LOV would suppress the network traffic.
If the use of LOV would give lots of drawbacks, then I should see the Enter_Query() Execute_Query() instead.
BTW,
I found the button Enter Query and Execute Query on the toolbar.
(Seems that Oracle Form provides lots of help to simplify the programming)
I have some sort of problems in using them :
1. Well, they do the query and retrieve the records for a match query criteria.
But it did not give any specific message if the record does not exist.
The message bar (for unknown reason) is showing
"Enter a query; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
Can we change this behaviour?
Perhaps, showing "No record(s) are retrieved for this query. Either change the query criteria; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
2. I found the Count Hits from Query menu.
Based on the documentation, the message line will show the records number returned based on query
criteria, without actually retruning the records to the user.
I am not sure whether this function has been removed for the Oracle Developer 10g (10.1.2), since
there is nothing happen, and the message line keep showing
"Enter a query; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
Do we tho do some modification to the Forms to use Count Hits?
3. I read on the documentation about Query Where dialog box.
Query Where will be showed if user enter a colon ':' in a field in Enter Query mode for query criteria.
Again, I am not sure whether this function has been removed too.
the message line showed :
FRM-40367: Invalid criteria in field <field_name> in example record.
It happens if the criteria contains # or : or &
Or is it done via another way?
Any help would be grateful.
Many thanks,
Imelda.
