You need at least one X server.
You can install the database to a server which has no X environment on an X terminal.

  • Installing Oracle 734 on tru64

    Hi All
    After a h/w issue ("the disk-controller blew taking out the os but maybe not the array" - whatever that means :-) ) , the o/s is being rebuilt, and I may soon be called upon to re-install Oracle 734 on tru64 (circa 1999).
    My knowledge is Oracle9i on Solaris (argh!!)
    please help.

    I am not pretending to write a full reference, the documents listed above are enough for a 7.3 administration. Oracle 9i/10g has a graphical environment. Back in 7.3 everything was CLI (command line interface). You have to manually create everything, database, listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora files.
    It didn't have sqlplus as the administrative tool, it was jus a client you can use to connect regular users. The connect / as sysdba connection didn't exist, there in only was the svrmgrl CLI to perform administrative tasks, such as recover, create database, and all regular SYSDBA tasks.
    There was no spfile, but the regular init.ora file. Just to name some meaningful first hand features.

  • Oracle Installer Problem while installing Oracle 9i on HP Unix

    Hi Everyone ,
    I had earlier installed 9.2.0.1 on Linux and had no probs whatsoever . When i am trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on HP Unix , the Oracle Installer opens up a window saying CHOOSE JDK HOME DIRECTORY . I have already set the PATH environment variable to point to /opt/java1.4 and /opt/java1.4/jre/bin and also JAVA_HOME to point to /opt/java1.4 . Even after trying to put the directory information it refuses to go thru giving the Error INVALID JDK HOME.PLEASE ENTER CORRECT JDK LOCATION.
    Any replies would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Ravi

    This could be due to you have multiple JDK homes like java1.4 and java1.3. Instead of type JDK home in the windows box, try to browse and select the JDK home and try it. Otherwise, if you have multiple JDK homes, then try to remove one of them.

  • About Install Oracle Access Manager On Windows Server 2008 64bit

    hi,
    Question 1:
    Can I install OAM10g(10.1.4.3.0) on Windows Server 2008 64bit ?
    (because OAM10g all is for win32)
    (I have tried to install it , but when OHS restart, have errors, so I found the 64bitOS is the trouble...)
    Question 2:
    If Question1 cannot, Can Oracle Identity and Access Management 11g fix it ?
    Help
    Thanks.

    Does this server use Itanium processors ? See MOS Doc 430677.1 (The image file setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.)

  • How to install Oracle DB on sco unix 5.06

    For soc unix 5.06:
    Which version of Oracle should I choose?
    Where can I find the installation document?

    This is pretty old. From the certify matrix, you can see the last available versions this platform supported were 9.0.1 and 8.1.7, just for the Intel SCO Open UNIX 8 with LKP. SCO 5.0 last time I used it was with an Oracle7.3 release. In case you don't have software it'll be hard to find, unless you address this to your Oracle Representative.
    Are you absolutely required to run on this version? Otherwise, you could try new software and new oracle releases, unless you want to run unsupported.

  • I installed Oracle 10 on aix Unix no issues - just want to create a db how?

    why is it so hard to find out something so simple as creating a db using x-windows to my unix box from a laptop???

    should be able to just telnet or ssh to your host with your xclient (or another method as long as your xwindow is running on your laptop), set your DISPLAY variable and then launch dbca if you have all the appropriate permissions.

  • Install Oracle 8.1.7 (TRU64 UNIX 5.1)

    Need information on how to initate the istallation of Oracle
    Software on TRU64 UNIX 5.1. Prior to 8.1.7, the "orainst" shell
    for UNIX was used from the command line. The installation
    instructions for 8.1.7 require the setting of the variable
    DISPLAY, and the execution of the script "runInstaller". For
    what I can tell, the new installation routine requires X-windows
    to run, but I cannot figure out how to set it up.
    Thank you in advance for any help on this subject.
    Eduardo Bedoya

    Dirk:
    I had the same problem, which is caused by a
    wrong version of Java. Follow the instructions
    in Denis Claric's Oracle page:
    http://staff.in2.hr/denis/oracle/
    BUT do NOT install the RPM packages from the
    RH7.1 CD-ROMs, get them from RedHat's web site instead.

  • Installing Oracle Linux on Fedora Core (formerly Red Hat)

    Hello,
    I am very new to Linux having been a recent Windows convert and wanted to find out whether I can talk to someone about installing Oracle on a Fedora Core system. I find the current documentation to be quite daunting for a newbie like me. I am not new to Oracle per se but I am new to installing it on a different operating system. It's also easier for me to chat about my issues than to do a long-winded e-mail. If there is a "guru" in this area that can contact me, I can be reached at 305-491-0417 (cell) or e-mail me at [email protected]
    Much appreciated and Thanks,

  • Installing Oracle 10g on Windows VISTA or Windows 7

    Hey,
    I am planning to purchase a laptop and i am concerned about installing Oracle 10g .
    So which of the Following OS is compatible?
    1) Windows VISTA
    2) Windows 7
    Many Thanks!!
    Cheers

    I found this solution in http://msutic.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-instal-oracle-client-11g-on.html
    It work for me. I´ve installed a Oracle 10.2.0.4 (vista e w2k8 x64) in a Windows 7 64 bits.
    Thanks to Marko Sutic !
    ========================================================
    To workaround this problem I've decided to edit refhost.xml file adding entry for Windows 7.
    * in production there are 2 files refhost.xml. I´ve edited both.
    Location of this file on my system:
    .\stage\prereq\db\refhost.xml
    .\stage\prereq\db_prereqs\db\refhost.xml
    This is excerpt from newly edited refhost.xml file:
    <CERTIFIED_SYSTEMS>
    <!--Microsoft Windows 7-->
    <OPERATING_SYSTEM>
    <VERSION VALUE="6.1"/>
    </OPERATING_SYSTEM>
    </CERTIFIED_SYSTEMS>
    New lines are added at the end of this excerpt after <!--Microsoft Windows 7-->. Notice version value=6.1.
    In addiction to Marko Sutic tip, I´ve edited too the file ./install/oraparam.ini adding the new value (6.1) to the message:
    [Certified Versions]
    #You can customise error message shown for failure, provide value for CERTIFIED_VERSION_FAILURE_MESSAGE
    Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0,6.1
    I´ve finished now the installation, and all sounds good.
    good luck

    I'm having the same exact problem. The link you have provided

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm
    glibc-headers-2.5-12.i386.rpm libgomp-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm

  • How to install oracle 10g in MAC OS X LION

    Can some one help me in installing oracle 10g in my mac os xlion.. I also need to know where can i download ORACLE 10g for mac ??

    Hi,
    About installing Oracle 10g in OS X Lion, I think you may need to install in other platform such as LINUX. Because Oracle 10g R2 installer packages were removed from OTN site which it may end-of-support.
    Best regards,

    It appears to me that I'm missing a Font library that may be causing this warning to occur. Can anyone provide me with a solution to this problem. If there is an additional package that needs to be installed, please point me in the direction to locate it.
    The prerequisite panel does show on the screen giving me a waring about the size of the swap partition.
    Thanks

    user457508 wrote:
    The exact command that I'm using is at the begining of this post.
    That is the runInstaller command I believe. I was referring to the command you used to log in to an account on the server.
    I'm logged on local to the machine as a use that uses sudo when required. The installation files are under my Download directory. When veiwing the command please notice the I'm only using the prerequisite option on the command.
    Did you sudo to the account that you are using to install ? If so, do not use sudo - try logging in directly to the account that you want to use for the install. Once you do so, xclock must work without errors for the runInstaller to work.
    As I said earlier it appears that I'm missing a Font Library, can you tell me where I can find the fonts that are missing? The errors that I'm getting are just Warnings.
    Someone suggested that I continue with the install and use the ignore option on the command line. How do I find out what the option is or what should be in the command?
    As I mention earlier the documentation that I have about installing Oracle Database 11g in a Solaris environment makes heavy reference to Solaris 10. Very little about Solaris 11 or 11.1. That is also confusing me. What should I do to move forward?
    ThanksHTH
