  • About the battery charging time.

    Hello everyone,
I'm buying a Macbook pro 13 the next week and I have just one question about it.
I've seen a lot of video reviews and unboxing videos in which the owners of the computers turn them on, with out charging the laptop. In addition, when they push the battery indicator button on the left side, the battery seems to be fully charged. So my question is: Do I have to have my macbook all the day long charging itself to get the maximum battery life?
I hope you can understand my question and answer it, sorry for my English.

As long as the AC adaptor is connected the battery will charge if needed. Maximum battery life, however, is dependent upon having the battery fully charged before use. For more info see:

  • About perfect battery charging time

what is the best perfect time to start charging  of my iphone battery, when it reaches 20% or when it fully discharged (0% or near) ??

You can and should charge as often and as long as possible... deep discharges are hard on lithium batteries.  Normal mobile use will result in the one charge cycle/month that Apple recommends.  Also, you cannot overcharge the device, thus you can leave it plugged in as long as you like.

  • Battery Charging

I am using an HP Envy TouchSmart m7-j020dx. When my computer is plugged into AC power I show that the battery is "plugged in, not charging). This is true regardless of what % the battery is currently charged to. When I shut the computer down but leave it plugged in after a period of time when I restart it tells me the battery is charged 100%.
I have tried the suggestion of removing the battery and starting the computer on AC power and going to battery in device manager and uninstall ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery. Followed by shutting down the computer, reinstalling the battery, plugging in AC power and restarting. This does not change the system at all.
I have also allowed the computer to search for an updated driver, but it tells me I have the most current one.
Can you give me anyother ideas?

  • [SOLVED] Battery charge percentage reports as 0% in xmobar

I have an ASUS U36JC laptop running Arch. I'm using xmobar to display information about the battery charge.

The charge level is reported correctly by acpi:

    Listing /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 gives:

Try adding -c "energy_full" to the battery plugin args.
You can also add -f "/sys/class/power_supply/AC0/online" if you don't have proper AC status in xmobar.

  • Disappointing Nokia Drive+ battery charging experi...

We have many threads about the phone dropping charge while on the charger so I decided to order a good quality 2.1 amp charger and use it with the OEM cable.
I drove a route that takes about 18-20 minutes with the charger and I gained about 8% battery charge in the process.  This was actually quite good compared to some previous driving chargers.
Then I returned on the same route with Nokia Drive+ turned on.  This is the updated version that was just released today.  By the time my route was over I lost 4% battery charge while on the charger.
To contrast, I can run waze (3D turn by turn nav app) on my iPhone 4 and gain charge at the same time.

I've had a few more mixed results.  However, I'm not sure if is app version related.
Yesterday I updated Nokia Drive+ from a link posted on WPCentral as they reported the update before it hit the store.  That is what I ran my first test on.  Then the app store notified me about an update again.  It reinstalled for a second time.  This time my settings had to also be reset.
Anyway, the next time I tested the battery usage I acutally gained some charge for the first half and then I lost the charge again for a net wash on battery charge.  What was interesting is the half of the trip where I gained charge was rather slow driving.
The next run I did I lost 1% charge but the phone didn't get super hot either.

  • T400 Power Problem: Flashing AC Power LED, No Battery Charge, Screen Flicker, No AC Boot

I bought a refurbished T400 less than 3 months ago. Today the power status change beeps started going off every minute or so, the power indicator light went off (while plugged in) and the battery began discharging. At the same time, the screen started flickering.
I powered down and tried draining the static by using the old trick: removing the battery and ac plug and pressing the start button 10 times and then holding on the 11th try. Didn't solve the problem.
When I use battery only, the screen doesn't flicker.
Plug in power and the screen starts flickering again, with the power LED mostly off but occasionally flickering on briefly. The battery is not listed as charging. Nothing to indicate that the power is plugged in, except for the occasional flash of the LED and the power status change beeps.
When I power down again and stay plugged in both the power LED and the battery LED keep flashing. First both are flashing green, but in a few minutes the battery light turns flashing orange.
If I remove the battery, both LEDs keep flashing. Try to power on that way and nothing happens - the LED's keep flashing, but it doesn't power on at all
Battery is new (the first one shipped wouldn't hold a charge at all; this one lists as good condition).
I don't have another Lenovo power supply to try, but the current one doesn't appear damaged or bent at all. I tried jiggling it while plugged in and there was no change.
The last thing I did before the problem began was remove a scanner from the usb port. I heard the thinkpad ports were fragile, so I am always very careful and gentle when using. I cannot see any damage to the ports.
I have about 70% battery charge left to work with, according to power manager.
My 30 day warranty is over, so I either figure this out, or I'm out the purchase price of $260., which I know is cheap for a replacement laptop, but a lot for only ten weeks of moderate use.If it's the motherboard I don't think it would be worth replacing - am I wrong? But what else can it be?
Any troubleshooting suggestions greatly appreciated. Please help! Thanks in advance for reading.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. It is a fake adapter - no lenovo written anywhere.
Now what? Should I test the unit with another adapter, or check the output of the adapter?
I hope that is the only problem, that would be wonderful. I'll update when I know more.

There are just too many settings and combinations of apps and settings  that affect battery use. Look through past posts for references to battery and read through them to get ideas. Some recent ones..  Turn down brightness and set Bluetooth off.

  • How do you get the IPAD2 to charge? We have tried both ways and it never goes any higher than the percentage it is? We have plugged it into our computer and into an electrical outlet but does not charge. We got it brand new so it should work.

We are having trouble getting our new IPAD2 to charge. We have hooked it up to our computer and no charge, we have used the outlet and still no charge. When we first connect it to an outlet it shows the battery but it immediately goes off and it is still at the same percentage hours later.
Do you have any suggestions as to what we need to do to get it charged?
    thanks
    Connie

Try resetting your iPad by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    Then try to charge.
It should charge from the outlet but may not from a USB.  Try a different cable or adapter.  If you don't have one, take it all in to Apple... the adapter may be defective.  You have a 1 year waranty.

  • My iPad2 wont charge anymore, after update to OS7

Like the title says, I have a hard time to get my iPad2 to charge. Sometimes it will sometimes it wont. Ive bought a third party cable some time ago, and had no problem under OS6. I have read that some third party cables wont be accepted by OS7 now, but Ive also read that you will get an error message, and I dont get any error messages, it just doesnt charge. After pulling our and inserting the plugin cable a 100 times, Im sometimes lucky it detects and starts charging.

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • First battery charge and current issues?

    Hi!
I just bought a new MacBook (2.0 GHz, 160 GB). I have two quick questions:
    1. I plugged in my AC adapter, turned on the notebook for about 5 minutes to make sure it works fine, etc, then shut it down to let the battery charge. Would I have lost any battery capacity by not fully charging the battery first? And do I need to let the battery run through a full cycle when I first use the computer to ensure full capacity?
    2. Are there any updates/best practices for the 2008 (December) MacBook batteries? I know there was an issue in 2007, but for the new line am I set to go? And is it still best practice to put shut the Mac down instead of putting it to sleep to save wear and tear on the hard-drive/battery?
sorry for all the questions: it has been 5 years since I bought my last notebook so I am a bit rusty/excited!
