About Java Programing

hi ,
I think over twice before asking question here. so anyhow time to ask
I here by , to grab the important points for the following question.
Now'days Most of the ide is enhanced/simplify the work for the java programmer.
say as eg: syntatic errors, casting works, Exception handling,grab the file from the path(importing) Most of the time, if any thing happens directly intimate to programmer.. except runtime exception.
ok. if a programmer doesnt had any ide means just notepad and with command prompt., means setuping ah path and complitation error : from syntax to run time exceptions most typical.. picking up lot of time
My bottom line of the question is pretty simple
A programmer using ide means pretty working good as well finish in time. but if he doesnt had ide means simple notepad struggling ah lot?
how does filter/iterate a good programmer? in other words how to certify a person as good programmer.

I've worked in business environments and I've worked in "family" environments where form is more important than result; me personally I can't do my job in such an environment because there is far less discipline when it comes to dealing with people that do not function properly; in stead of people going into the confrontation you get avoidance strategies and problems just fester until a breaking point. You need a well-oiled machine when doing development, being too chummy gets in the way of that.
Of course it isn't black and white either.

Team dynamics is one of the most difficult thing to fit an interview for, and it's correct, you don't have to be Mr Social to fit in. I'm fairly introverted, but play well with others. I work quietly and often do not even see the entire floor or department of the company I work for until years of working at that location, but I have learned to effectively network with the other developers in the company and the local area.
At one time we convinced one of the middle managers we needed a 2 hour lunch on Friday for networking. We'd go down to a local restaurant, sit back and talk, and see each other in a more "natural setting". What the newbies didn't figure was all of those senior leads there were evaluating them for personality and if they thought they could work with them. We had a pool of about 60 people that would show up for our "no host luncheon" from various companies through the area. We had a great time--we blew off some steam, we networked with others to find solutions to what we were looking at, we even recruited a few people, but ultimately we found out what everyone was really like. Those sessions very much allowed the senior programming staff to evaluate who they wanted to work with and rate how dependable they thought each person was and who would mesh on what teams. I have to say during that era, I didn't care for my boss much, but when we suggested the networking luncheons, and they went along with them, I will admit my opinion of them went up significantly.
On another instance I had a mainframe legacy programmer working for me that was, to put it mildly, kind of crotchety. Most fortuitous for me my wife took a workshop about that time I was able to read over her materials. They identified 5 basic personality types. This guy fit one of the descriptions perfectly. I decided to try working with him using the protocols described in the workshop: he turned out to be one of the best employees that I ever had. Great programmer too. The key there was: once you told him what needed to be done, he was going to complain, stomp his foot, and do the "humph!" type of purging sigh. If you knew that was just a basic mechanism he had to cope with new stuff and not to take any notice of it, then he worked out great. He ended up working for me on 3 major development systems, learned to write web based live reports, and basically retooled his toolset 3 times over the period he worked for me. This was all before Java, Web Devleopment, or laptops became popular. Basically back in the time of bear skins, stone knives, and sharp sticks.

  • My University project about java program plagiarism

    I am working on my Final year Project about java program plagiarism.
    i.e. My system finds similarity between two programs by "Source code" to check whether there are plagiarism.
    And now i need plenty of samples and need your help.
    I need two types of sample:
    1. original version - a version written by your own.
    2. plagiarized version - a version which is copied from original version and has modified to conceal that it is a plagiarism.(Try to treat the teacher)
    My two sample programs are:
    1. Find shortest path by Dijkstra's algorithm.
    2. Find the determinant of a N x N matrix.
    Both programs read data from txt file as input.
    Now, I sincerely invite you to help me to make samples
    You can choose to do the version(original or plagiarized) and the program you like.
    After you have finished, please kindly send to [email protected]
    If you decide to do plagiarized version, please download the following sources and modified them.

    Thank you very much. Looking forwards to your program.

    Ha ha, good try.
    You know, if you had posted whatever you have achieved so far, you might actually have got the help you so obviously need. But now your only chance of getting any help here is to get yourself another username.
    If this were true, your professors would have gladly supplied you with research material in exchange for use of your "system".

  • Question about Java programming development

    There are five phases in java program development. They are: edit -> compile -> load -> verify -> execute
    However, every time I develops program. I only experience phase 1, phase 2 and phase 5. I always miss phase 3 and 4. When do the class loader and bytecode verifier work? How do they work?
    Second question, how the legitimate programs can execute automatically without typing command java to invoke the interpreter?

  • Question about Java Program

    I have a question here that I cant seem to figure out.
    I would really appreciate it if someone would help me out with the answer. I just got started learning Java and have a question:
    Suppose list is an array of five components of the type int. What is stored in list after the following Java code executes?
    for(int index = 0; index < 5; index++)
    list(index) = 2 * index + 5;
    if(index % 2 ==0)
    list[index] = list[index] -3;
    I would really appreiciate it if someone could help me out with this problem.

    This doesn't seem like a JSC-related problem, but I'll answer it anyways...
    list(index) = 2 * index + 5;This should probably be list[index] = 2 * index + 5
    The array will, after execution, contain
    {2, 7, 6, 11, 10}

  • Java Programming Question

    Hi,Everybody:
    I have a question about Java programming. If I want to write a java class code called if.java like below, how should I do to make it pass the java compiler and make it work. I know the words "if" and "for" are reserved words. I just try to figure it out that is it possible??? Do I need to create my own java compiler or recompiler?
    public class if
    public if() { }
    public static for test()
    return new for();
    public class for
    public for() { System.out.println("for class constructor"); }
    }

    I don't think you can bypass the compiler's rejection of this. There is little point to naming the classes after keywords. Not sure if it's case sensitive though, so maybe "If" or "For"? Otherwise, try "if_" or "for_"

  • Need help with Java programming installation question

    Sorry for my lack of knowledge about Java programming, but:....
    A while back I thought I had updated my Java Runtime Environment programming. But I now apparently have two programs installed, perhaps through my not handling the installation properly. Those are:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 5.0 (a 118MB file)
    and:
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v 1.4.2_05 (a 108MB file)
    Do I need both of these installed? If not, which should I uninstall?
    Or, should I just leave it alone, and not worry about it?
    Yeah, I don't have much in the way of technical knowledge...
    Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
    Bob VanHorst

    Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll do just that. Once in a while I have a problem with Java not bringing up a webcam shot, but when that happens, it seems to be more website based than a general condition.

  • Running a java program a set number of times

    This is a general question. Is it possible to make a java program run only 5 times for the sake of arguement.
    Basically I want to write a program that will give the user some flexibility when it will actually run another Java program, but I only want them to be able to say "not now' for a set number of times. When the last time comes the other program will launch. I was initially thinking of the Do Whilw loop, but this needs to work when the program is restarted.
    Program starts, it has 5 times it will run before it does something else(doesn't really matter now I think). User takes option "Not Now" and the program ends, but warns the user this will run 4 more times before you will need to do something.
    This process will repeat until the user takes the option "Ok install now" or the time limit expires and the install occurs anyway. Can someone point me in the right direction.

    ok I see so it's like one those programs that you download for free on the internet and they give you a set amount times to use it before you have to pay for it. but in this case when the number of times you use it equals 5 (or when the user clicks ok) a different java app will open automatically.
    My first thought would be to Write a Serialized object to disk using objectOutputStream that stores the number of times the application has been opened. and each time the program runs it checks for the serialized object and then you can do something like what I posted before. of course if were worried about security the user could always look for the object and erase it, if so then I guess we would have to come up with another plan of attack
    Hope this helps

  • Need help in creating a java program

    Hi everyone.
    I'd like to say before i start about my problem, that i've only begun learning java and my teacher hasn't explained anything at all. He only showed us by doing it himself and then showing us the final version. I've searched a little on how to program but i get little success in finding a good tutorial.
    I need help creating a program which has been assigned to me due in a few days in which i can't contact my teacher for help.
    I need to write a java program which inputs 3 items. The number of kilometres you drove, the number of litres of gas you used and the price you paid for the gas. Then, the program must calculate the number of litres used per 100km driven, which is litres divided by kilometres times 100, how much it costs to drive 100km, which is the result (a) times the price per litre and the number of miles per American gallon of gas ( one American gallon = 3.785 litres, and one mile = 1.609 km.
    The program has to output my name, the inputs given, the results computed and a message saying "Program Complete".
    To give you what i've done to begin with, from what i understood, is:
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class prog1
         public static void main(String args[])
              final double americanGallon = 3.785;
              final double mile = 1.609;
              kilometresDriven,
              gasUsed;
              priceOfLiterGas;
              System.out.println("My Name");
              System.out.println("Number of kilometres driven:");
              kilometresDriven = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ("Kilometres Driven");
              System.out.println("Number of Litres of gas used:");
              gasUsed = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ("Litres of gas used");
              System.out.println("Price of a liter of gas:");
              priceOfLiterGas = JoptionPane.showInputDialog("Price per liter");
    Up to now, that's all i've got. i know i'm wrong, but i'm not sure how to do this. Could someone give me an outline of what this program is suppose to look like?
    Thanks in advance.

    Here's an update on my program. I've worked on certain details and would need your comments whether it contains errors. I'd also want to know if it would work or not because i don't know how to check it on my computer.
    Here's the update:
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class Prog1
    public static void main(String args[])
    String name;
    double kmDriven;
    double litresUsed;
    double pricePaidForGas;
    double priceOfALiter;
    name = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Name");
    input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Number of km driven");
    kmDriven = Double.parseDouble (input);
    input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Number of litres of gas used");
    litresUsed = Double.parseDouble (input);
    input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Price paid for gas");
    pricePaidForGas = Double.parseDouble (input);
    input = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Price of a litre of gas");
    priceOfALiter = Double.parseDouble (input);
    a = (litresUsed/kmDriven)*100;
    b = ((litresUsed/kmDriven)*100)*priceOfALiter);
    c = (kmDriven/1.609)
    System.out.println("Name:" + name);
    System.out.println("Number of litres used per 100km:" + a);
    System.out.println("Cost of driving 100km" + b);
    System.out.println("Number of miles per American Gallon of Gas:" + c);
    System.out.println("Program Complete");
    System.exit(0);
    Comments please.
    Thanks in advance

  • Using the Insert statement in a Java program without hardcoding the data

    hello.
    this is james mcfadden. i have developed a program called Demo.java, which is used with another program called QueryTableModel.java (a program that allows data to be viewed in a JTable). The Demo.java program displays a menu, connects to a database, allows the user to add data into the database and allows the user to view data that is already in the database. I have a problem with the Demo.java program. I have hardcoded the Insert statement in it. How do you use the Insert statement to put data into a database without hardcoding the data?

  • Java program not updating in correct sequence in applet

    Greetings,
    I have a java program with interactive graphic components. After completely writing the program, I create two shells ( or handle): an application shell with JFrame and an applet shell with JApplet. The application version of the program works fine. But the applet version skips some (middle) steps in the painting process when responding to user inputs.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on?
    I am not able to embed code snippets because my Internet has not being working and am finger typing this on my cellphone.
    Thanks for any help.

    My cable person won't come before Monday so I am struggling for now. Thanks for the replies, though.
    More info:
    1) both shells are extremely basic. They both simply add the drawing panel like so:
    DrawingPane drawingPanel = new DrawingPanel();
    add(drawingPanel);//frame.add for application
    the application uses statc main; the applet uses init. Nothing more.
    2) the program paints the hands and fingers of a stick figure red or green dependring on which foot of the figure is clicked.
    3) the application version works completely
    4) the applet version updates the right hand the first time; but not on subsequent clicks. More mysteriously, although it skips the hand, it still go on to update the fingers.
    5) No I don't know about event threads yet.
    Thanks.

  • Java plugin doesn't work, even though it's installed correctly and java programs work.

    As stated. I have a link in ~/.mozilla/plugin that points to test/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so, which is the java 6 update 21 runtime environment.
    Java doesn't show in about:plugins, and java applets don't start (firefox suggests to install missing plugins).
    Java programs using the jre outside the browser work.
    This is on Linux 32-bits, Slackware 13.0, kernel 2.6.34.

    Where did you read that?<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java<br />
    In Firefox 3.6 and later versions you need the Next-Generation Java™ Plug-In present in Java 6 U10 and later (Linux: libnpjp2.so; Windows: npjp2.dll).

  • How do I establish a connection to another Java program on the net?

    Hi all,
    I have been reading the java tutorial to find a solution to my problem but I havent really found what Im looking for.
    I want to establish a connection that allows a client to get a copy of an object from a running java-application on a server on the internet.
    I have read about the Socket-class but the tutoral advices only to use it on a locale network. I know IDL and RMI only by name - is this what I should be reading about?
    If one of you guys have a source-code example on how to make java programs communicate over the net, please post it!
    Regards Albert

    Assuming this is "wide area" stuff, not just on a local area network, your best bet is to stick to http connections. You need a web server, probably Tomcat.
    Your client can connect using URL.openConnection().
    As to protocols you could use SOAP. It has the advantage that you can get the code for it for free, but it can be pretty complicated to configure. In particular it only knows how to transmit a limited set of object types and if you want to go beyond them you have to write converters. SOAP servers typically run under an web server anyway. SOAP converts all the data to XML for transmission.
    However it may be simpler to use Java's built in serialisation facility and send your data as an ObjectStream.
    In the set up you're talking about the message going to the server seems a lot simpler than the response. It may make sense to send your data as normal keyword parameters of a POST transaction but to have the server respond with an Object stream. That's well within the normal operation of a web server.
