Is it normal for Step 1 of iTunes Match (gathering info about library) to take hours?

If I recall correctly, mine took around 15-20 minutes for around 12,000 tunes.

  • Itunes opens and sits on gathering info about library

Have had several Ipods over the years but were kids. Now wife has nano and when opening I tunes get the line above about gathering info about library and never moves from there to allow me to do anything with new one.

    Hi folks,
I found a solution in case your MATCH is still buggy...
JUST BOOT YOUR MAC HOLDING THE SHIFT KEY (until you see a progress bar).
Then in itunes disable and re-enable iTunes Match.
It should rescan all your library and eventually works.
At the end just reboot your Mac normally.
    Best regards from Paris.

  • About library .

hey guys, i have song on my itunes which can i see on the music just under the library. the problem is I have 8 gb song but my ipod is only 6 g. When i try to update my ipod have lots of songs all can not fit in. can i separete the library which for ipod and which i listen usually. it makes me tired romove from library before updating the ipod then but again. !

You could create a Smart Playlist for your iPod and limit it to about 5.5 GB.
If you're using iTunes 7, the rules for such a playlist would be:
    Playlist - is - Music
Limit to 5500 MB selected by .......... (make a choice)
Note: you can't type the "." (period), so you have to type 5500 MB instead of 5.5 GB
You can also create a playlist which depends on other (Smart) Playlists.
    Just experiment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Two quick questions about Library after moving beginning on a new computer

    Hi there,
I just moved from Windows to Mac, meaning I had to move my iTunes library from the old PC to my new MBA.
Just a couple of quick questions.
    1. When I started iTunes on my new Mac, in the preferences I directed the media folder to the folder with all my itunes music/podcasts etc, and then I imported the Library XML file.  Is this incorrect? Should I have imported a different file? Should I have used the itl file instead?
If so, should I delete the library and start again?  (if this is the case, please suggest the best way of doing this without affecting my media)
    - a kind of sub-question to this one:  some of the media files arent showing up in the iTunes library, but they are in the media folder on the ext HDD.  Is there a way I can find out which ones havent been recognized by iTunes?  Whats the best way of getting them in to my library?
    2. Pretty much half of my podcasts have not been loaded in the new iTunes.  The ones that havent were ones that I subscribed to on my iPhone, whereas the ones that show up in iTunes were ones I downloaded from iTunes.  When I connect my iPhone and sync it with iTunes, will those podcasts show up in iTunes?  Or is there a risk that they will be deleted from my iPhone?
    Cheers,

The .xml is lacking some information such as ratings, date added, and play count.  Using the .itl includes this information but cannot be imported using the method you did.
A complete library is everything in the iTunes folder.  By using the method you did you left the artwork behind in the artwork folder on the other machine.
Selecting the media folder in preferences does not get iTunes to recognize the media.  All it does is tell iTunes to start storing new media in that location.
Using the method I outlined nothing will be missed (with the exception of WMA) because you aren't rebuilding your library, you are using the one that already exists.
You don't have to re-copy everything as long as you get the stuff you missed and re-assemble it all as it was before except not on the Mac.

  • About /Library/Receipts folder

I noticed that for every updates that I downloaded and installed, Mac keeps a copy of the package file in /Library/Receipts folder. Just wondering if it's safe to delete the files in this folder, as I believe over a period of time the older installer packages might not be needed any longer?

You definitely do NOT want to delete anything in that folder. They're not the full package, so they don't take up nearly as much space as you'd think. And Disk Utility usess them to repair your permissions. Software Update also uses them as part of the process of figuring out what to download and install. The only time you'd ever want to delete one is for a specific reason, like you need to re-apply an update and the presences of its receipt is blocking you from doing that.

  • Question about "library" folder

Sorry if this is dumb question, just got the computer yesterday. Anyway, I was snooping around in the library folder and I deleted some things in an attempt to free up some space, however I think that the things I deleted may have been important. I deleted "LaunchAgents", "Perl", "Python", and "Ruby". Can someone please shed some insight as to what these folders were for, and if they were important, how can I get them back.
    Thank you

Everything in the System and Library folders are important for the system - you should never delete anything from them. In fact, you're asked for an admin password before you can delete them, for a good reason. You should do an Archive and Install of your system (or a Time Machine restore, if you have one) to get back to a good working system, otherwise you're liable to experience crashes and system failures.
Likewise, you shouldn't delete anything in your home folder's Library folder unless you understand what it is and know what the consequences are.

  • A issue about library of report painter?

why can't i put table vbap into a library?
It informs that "The Report Writer can only report on tables if the attributes of these tables that are relevant for reporting are defined in control tables. This is not the case for table VBAP." and Message no is GR493.

Any body here can help me? thanx!

  • Question about library appearance

so ive had this "problem" with itunes for a while now, although not a really big deal, it would be awesome to fix it.
basically when youre looking at your list of songs in the library, the background color is all white and not blue and white alternating lines. this has been annoying me for a while now and would be awesome if anyone knows how to fix this.
i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that doesnt fix it.
also is there any way to get the "recently played" and all those playlists back?
    thanks.

Livetype is better for titling and gives you more control.
A couple of things for consideration.
    1) the font that you use - don't use 'thin' or overly 'fussy' fonts.
    2) Reduce the opacity of the white - In FCP, don't use pure white, but slightly grey. Far better to do this in LT, where, in the 'attributes' tab of the 'inspector' tab, reduce the opacity to between 80% and 90%.
Oh and don't forget to render the effect and monitor through an external monitor (or a portable TV at the very least)

You'll get an empty NodeList. And that's what the documentation says. Notice how it does NOT say "Returns null if no matching nodes are found"?

  • Keep getting this error message about library backup...

When Itunes is running, after a little while it gives me this message saying +"Cannot backup library. You do not have enough access priviledges to perform this action"+ What does this mean? Everything is running fine otherwise. Btw, I am running Windows 7
On a side note, I recently just lost all of my playlists and music and had to reload everything because ITunes just decided on its own to wipe everything out. Needless to say, I was furious. I loaded the songs back in but recreating the playlists takes a lot of time and I don't want this to happen again. I wonder if this message had anything to do with that fiasco. Any ideas?

I started getting this at the same time. Must be something on their end. It's all still working though which is weird.

  • Update to v1.9 - what about library items

    Hi,
we have creating tons of library items with v1.8 of Folio producer. For the next issue
we would like to update to v1.9.
My question: Do we need to update or recreate any of our library items for v1.9?
    Thanks Stefan

Your InDesign library items shouldn't change when you update to v19.

  • How can I increase my Library Cache Hit Ratio?

I was wondering if anyone can help me out regarding the values that I am getting for my Library Cache hits stats
Half of the samples that I have taken on a periodic interval today have ranged from 89% to 96%.
The SQL that I have used is,
    SELECT
    sysdate,
    SUM(PINS-RELOADS)/SUM(PINS)*100
    from v\$librarycache
Also, Running the AWR report for 4am to 4pm, see below
    Shared Pool Statistics AWR report
                        Begin      End
    Memory Usage %:           50.83      42.43
    % SQL with executions>1:      55.56      77.13
    % Memory for SQL w/exec>1:      74.12
    Regarding the current SGA settings,
    SQL> show parameter sga_target;
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    sga_target big integer 1184M
    SQL>
    SQL> select pool,name,bytes/1048576 "Size in MB" from v$sgastat where name = 'free memory';
    POOL NAME Size in MB
    shared pool free memory 135.742641
    large pool free memory 15.9389648
    java pool free memory 16
    The main questions are,
    a) is the low Library cache hit ration particularly low?
    b) if I want to improve this figure, it is advised that the 'SHARED_POOL_SIZE' parameter should be increased.
Obviously Oracle itself is in charge of this at present, so what can I do to improve?
    c) Are there any really good links to help me to understand the figures that appear in the AWR report.

    a) is the low Library cache hit ration particularly low?
I didnt understand this. Can you please rephrase?
    b)
Well indeed that shared pool controls the allocation and everything about Library Cache but it doesnt mean that increasing the value will stop all the issues. Its among the hardest parameters to be tuned infact for the reason that what primarly comes into it,sql statements, code and all that, that is not written entirely by a dba/tuner.Its by developers who does some times not so good things that are required to make shared pool work properly.Very commonly occuring mistake can be quoted as the lack of use of bind variabls and constant use of literals. In that case, eventualy we will have a hard parse of all the statements which will eat up the shared pool some time or the other. No matter what size it may be,it will end to the same result.Hit ratio is a guiding factor, not the end goal of tuning. Its been documented so many places, here, other forums, even in OU books also that looking and tuning alone the hit ratio may not end up at the expected or right results. You should look for the Parse statistics in the AWR report how they are working. How many are Parse(hard),Parse(total) statistics coming up?What is the sql execute to parse time, elapsed time and the related statistics. They will be helpful in getting things sorted out more nicely and correctly.
I am sure I have missed so much than I said.Surely you will get more better advice on this.Have patience and wait.
b)Documentation will be a good point.Performance tuning in that is a good resource.

I am not sure about a specific book about AWR but this one is good for over all knowledge about tuning of Oracle.

  • My iTunes library data file has been renamed temp file.tmp

Can I just rename it iTunes Library? It is a functioning iTunes Database file and it works perfectly well - it is just weird!
    I have iTunes 7.6.2 (9).
My library resides on my external hard drive.
In my iTunes folder on that drive, I also find Temp file.tmp.xml and iTunes Library.xml.
I believe this got screwed up on May 31st (that is the last modified date on iTunes Library.xml) when I was showing a slide show in iPhoto which used music from my iTunes library. At one point I disconnected the external drive to use the USB cable to upload photos to iPhoto from another camera.
I have read through a lot of the discussion topics about library issues and temp files, but cannot find anything that deals with this issue to answer my question.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Never mind.
I copied it and renamed it and all is well.
