Hi, I have used some tools that design automatic flash
presentantions and other applications, some friends too give me
more apps. But what about the licensing? can I use all this
applications without a license?
How function the licensing for the owner of a website?, much
websites use SWF, or flash apps. are they a legal users?

That's not true in fact. If the website is a commercial one
or includes any advertising, even just google text links and there
are H.264 encoded video pieces then an H.264 license is mandatory.
Adobe provides only an H.264 encoding license for non-commercial
use only. There is no internet or broadcast license provided for
any use that generates revenue.
This is the terribly unfortunate part about the H.264
introduction with Flash 9/10. It's licensing requirements render
H.264 virtually useless to a large swath of developers.

Dear Friends,
I have a query about licensing of Jdeveloper development tool. I understand that Jdeveloper is Free tool.That is we do not require license to use Jdeveloper for development as well as production.
Recent I heard that Jdeveloper is free only if we purchase Oracle Application Server. Is it correct ? Does one need to purchase Jdeveloper license if it is being deployed on any other App. server eg. Jboss etc ?

JDeveloper is free! Oracle ADF - the binding layer - ADF BC, and ADF Faces need an OracleAs licence

When starting SAP client always ask about license server

Dear Users,
from few days every user who is loggin into SAP 8.8 PL16 is asking about license server address.
After typing license server address everything works fine until next start of the SAP client - prompt for license server shows again and again.

The same situation - names are resolved propertly. This issue occurs only on that customer installtion from few days.
I have even upgraded 8.8 from PL14 to PL16 believed that it helps, but helped not...

We wish to keep a spare computer loaded with all the required editing software ready to swap out if we have a hardware issues. What can we do about licensing, can users hot desk to it? We have about 10 users with various software packages loaded on their current machines. Currently if one goes wrong we have no backup.

You will need to check the licensing requirements for the various software & operating systems that you use.
A much simpler way will be to make a clone of each machines hard disk drives on seperate external bootable drives using Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper. You can then keep a couple of blank machines and boot from the an external drive in an emergency and carry on working. At the end of the work day you can then restore the clone to the internal hard drive of the affected machine, and leave it to run over night to complete the restore.
This method would probably be the cheapest way to implement a disaster recovery option as you will not need to pay for new licenses or 10 new machines.
Just make sure that each machine has an external HDD attached and a regular clone being made on a schedule, this way you will always have an up to date clone to work from.
There are many ways to acheive what you require, NAS etc.

SMP3: What about licensing & Number of device registrations?

As we all know that SMP3 SP03 is GA now. And most of us have started working on the same. While installation of SMP3 SP03 runtime, it does not ask about license type like the way we have seen while installing of SMP2.3 or earlier version (SUP 2.x)
e.g.
For Personal Developer Edition: Allows a max of 5 client devices
For Enterprise Developer Edition:Allows a max of 20 client devices and so on.
As per current SMP3 binaries, a single downloaded SMP3 setup can be installed on as many number of machines. What could be the SAP's objective if there is no such license type information available for server installation?
How we will ensure about max number of client devices registration against a particular server?

I've asked the person who is seeing 38 digits to test. I'll report the results.
Somebody else tried the copy/paste method too and it gave 40 digits, but she was also seeing 40 digits in iTunes.
It seems some people are just seeing 38 digits in iTunes, so the thing to confirm still is whether or not those people can successfully copy/paste all 40 digits.

Wondering if this is the right forum to ask about license info...
Out of my curiosity. I've read somewhere saying Oracle database license does not allow other reporting tools to mine data directly from the oracle database without a oracle report builder developer license???

The only official place to ask license questions is your Oracle rep. Very few, if any, of the responders on this site work for Oracle, of the few who do, I would be surprised if any had the authority/knowledge to interpret licensing questions.
Having said that, and adding "I'm not a lawyer but ...", as far as I know, there are no restrictions on what you can do with your properly licensed Oracle database as long as you remain within the user/CPU limits in your agreement.
If a Report Builder license was required to use any reporting tool, then I suspect that 99% plus of the Oracle users out there would be in violation of their licenses. I know we would be.
Report away.

About license for SAP JVM

My partner in China is look for alternate JVM to replace Oracle JVM in their solution.
They want to know the following thing about SAP JVM.
1.) Can SAP JAVA be opened to the third partner?
2.) Can the third partner can sell their solution ,which embedded with SAP JVM?
3.) Can SAP provide the relevant documents(include performance , interface and license authorized information)?

CE 7.1 SR5 is available to download on service.sap.com but is possible to use it in productive manner?

The license for CE is as any other SAP software. So is necessarly require it to SAP.

About License Oracle AS 10g

Hi All,
we were using Oracle DB10g (Rel 2) & Dev6i, we have the License for DB10g Standard Edition, but as now we are upgrading to Dev Suite10g so we need to have an additional Server for Application Server. Do we need to purchase the License for Application Server? If Yes then approximately how much it will cost us as we have Standard Edition for DB10g.

you should talk to your sales guy about this.
Licences for oracle databases depend on some factors like amount of users and/or CPU-Cores. This will be the same for the application server.

Question about licensing a project under GPL

Hi all. I've been working on a bit of a summer project and it's nearing completion. I thought I might aswell share it with other people, and the topic of licensing crossed my mind. I'm just wondering about whether i'm doing everything right so that I can register the project on sourceforge.
It consists of a single 2000 line BASH script. That can be licensed under the GNU GPL right?
I read the stuff on the GNU website and all it seems I need to do is put a copyright comment at the top of the BASH script and supply a copy of the GNU GPL with the tar.gz. Is that all there is to it?

About licensing the Jdeveloper and ADF

Hello everybody :
I have a little doubt about the "JDeveloper and ADF" license
I am planning to start my project using it and I have read the license [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/jdev-license-152012.html] and I understood that everything is free for single user except Web Logic server needs to be licensed .
Is that what I have understood correct or not ?
Can I use this tool for developing my small project for my small business enterprise but the only one thing that I am afraid of is in the future I might face some limitations with the Web Logic Server or with any tool of Jdeveloper and ADF , So Shall I start up my project or should I search for another different tool such as Netbeans .
I would like to hear the answer before I put my self in trouble .

Well, this will cost you more money the buying a licence as you break the law. To find out what you have to pay you better call a sales person in your area (see home oracle page).

Confused about licensing

I arrived here one month ago by APEX, and started to study a little more Oracle. Before, I only knows about Oracle as a great database, but all his ecosystem was unknown for me.
One month later studying APEX (I like it), seems like ADF is the bid of Oracle for Businness applications. I downloaded JDevelopr and I will start to study it from tonight.
But there are some thing I don't understand very well.
AFAIK, there are like 2 versions. Essentials and "another". If I understood correctly, with Essentials, I can develop, and deploy to my customers for free. With "another" I need licenses and an application Server (WebLogic I suppose).
My doubts are:
1.- Could be possible to use Essentials with Oracle XE and deploy cheap applications to little customers without licenses fees? What are the limits of Essentials version?
2.- What Application Servers are available with the "another" version of ADF? This question is to see licenses fee to estimate how much an application could cost in licenses for my customers if Essentials/XE is not enough.

It is indeed possible to use Essentials, GlassFish and Oracle XE to deliver a completely free solution. Essentials offers nearly all ADF features, the exceptions being: Oracle ADF Mobile, Oracle ADF Desktop Integration, Oracle ADF Security, The Oracle ADF Web service data control, Oracle ADF remote taskflows, Oracle ADF Business Component’s Service Interfaces, Oracle ADF Data Controls for BI, Essbase and BAM, Integration with Oracle Fusion Middleware features such as MDS, OPSS, OWSM, Enterprise Manager and MBeans, High Availability and Clustering. Don't forget Oracle XE will only support up to 11 GB of data; in addition, it will use a single CPU core and 1GB of Ram. This means is doesn't scale very well. You could use Oracle MySQL as an alternative. This is supported by ADF, although you loose some optimizations specific to Oracle Database.I know about the limitations of XE. The customers I plan to deploy my apps with XE are 3/4 users max without too much requeriments. A simple invoice & orders management application with a mobile app to query and enter new data.
For this reason, for this kind of customers, if I add licenses fees, I can't compete against other software
My intentions, is to develop over Oracle Technology, fitting little customers, but with possibilities to scale if bigger customers comes to me.
