About Mac performance...

I'm using MacBook Pr 13" n mavericks is installed. Now a days Mac performance become very slow, it's lagging and also hang battery level percentage. When I will satrt or stop charging it shows the original percentage otherwise it is hanging. For example : I have charged full 100% and i use for long time and if battery reches around 40% then also the percentage shows 100% and when I plug charger then it shows original. Please help me.
And another que is : Is Mac performance affected in hot (summer) days?

  • About Mac Pro RAM and one "Nehalem" Processor 2.8 vs 3.2

    Hi,
Unfortunately I don't have so much money to spend but I find Apple products very high quality and in same time very expensive, specially for my country (Russia), according to statistic, it’s less then 1% of people that using Mac Pro in here, my country really poor :/
I never use Mac before, but I think that time is come and I would like to buy one on my birthday soon (22 November). I really tired of my crazy PC with Vista, it’s always bugs lags, and so on, it’s poor machine. I can buy new PC with i7, nice performances or buy Mac, but I think, Mac will be more quality and stable.
I'm web designer and programmer and using my PC with Adobe programs, normally Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, very rare with After Effect (1 day per month). Sometimes I’m playing games like Dragon Age or CS:Source, Starcraft2. But I got PS3, but unfortunately it’s connected to our main home TV, and I can’t play PS3 because all day this TV watching my family :/ lol
I’m not sure if there are any way to connect PS3 to TV and computer screen at the same time… but it’s another question.
Now about Mac I'm wondering of buying cheapest Mac Pro 2010:
    # One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem”
    # 3GB (3x1GB)
    # 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
    # ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
    # One 18x SuperDrive
But at the same time, I wondering about how long time I will be able to use this Mac, and enjoy it before it will come too old. Because I just can’t spend and buy Mac every 2-3 years.
I’m looking forward to use it for 4-5 years I think or so. I know it’s very hard question and I’m not really sure if it’s right to discuss it, but I’m saying just what I think.
And maybe because of this, it’s better to order processor with 3.2Ghz, and a bit more RAM (8GB (4x2GB))? What you think?
And what will be the different between this 2 processors and more RAM? Because it will be +800 USD or so, and it’s very expensive for me (pay addition 800 Dollars), I just want to ask you if it will costs this money. Unfortunately I can’t spend more money on Mac to buy 6-core Westmare and more RAM But I think cheapest Mac, for my tasks already very powerful and awesome, what you think?
And if you’ll advice me, not to pay addition 400 USD for +0.4Ghz, and the different is very little, then what you think about addition Ram for stock MAC?

    Thank you hatter.
I'm appreciate for your help and answer, and this amazing links! They are very helpful.
I find some interesting information. And most interesting is SSD thing. But unfortunately it's very expensive for me
I got 2 ways to go, and I really confused now. I take a look what you said, about making a PC with i7. And here is what I find on our Russian market - only 1 company which offers high quality custom PC's with up to 3 years guarantee.

DEPO - It’s our Russian company so I can’t give you link on English web page, but if you are interesting to view it, maybe with Google translate:
    http://www.depo.ru/H/MDL658/1000004953/zconfigurator.aspx
And I’m not really sure, if they offer high quality components, and I can’t check it.
I just don’t want to repeat same experience like with my previous computer – I bought top computer for very high price with top components, but everything was bugging, it’s terrible, I’m working with this computer 3 years now (it’s cored 2 duo with radeon x1900 and vista :S video card - without supporting DX10-11, 2 Hdd 500Gb RAID 0, - maximum lags – I cant’ even make a diagnostics… crazy). And I’m so sad about this computer, and I don’t want to repeat same experience. That’s why I wonder about Mac Pro or any other quolity PC, but price is too high, or if I buy just normal Mac Pro:
    • One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem”
    • 3GB (3x1GB)
    • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive

    • One 18x SuperDrive
    • Apple Magic Mouse
    • Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) & User's Guide
For 2499 USD, I still need to add more RAM, and It will costs 2874 USD with 8 Gb, but without changing Processor and/or HDD for SSD to speed up computer like **** and enjoy it every minute. I maximum can spend 3000-3200 USD for new computer. And all I want, to enjoy it’s stability and speed. To load photoshop in less then 5 seconds, working with AE a bit, 3dmax a bit, play a bit. Maybe I want to much :/

  • Paragon NTSF 7 for Mac: Performance and reliability?

    http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/screenshots.html
Anyone using this product (Paragon NTFS 7) to read/write files on NTFS (windows) partitions from the OS-X system? I'm planning to get this app because it looks good for file sharing between platforms.
    2 questions:
Does it work as advertised reliably and consistently?
What about speed/performance? I'll be working with video and audio and want to edit from either os on single files. Are the read/write speeds using NTSF 7 from OS-X to NTSF partition comparable with read/write to native Extended volumes?
I assume that from Windows there's no difference because the NTFS partition would appear normally to Win XP.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I've been putting material on an NTFS-formatted 1TB external HD for a friend's WD-TV (excellent little box BTW). I first tried Paragon and every single transfer, though happily accepted by XP failed to be recognised as playable by the WD-TV so I tried NTFS-3G with complete success. The write speed is significantly slower than Paragon's offering, maybe only 60-70% as fast and I may have neglected a vital setting with Paragon but that's my experience FWIW.

  • Mac Performa 405 buzzing noise

Whenever I turn on my Mac Performa 405 after a while it starts to make a buzzing noise. I am almost positive that this noise is coming from the add-on Motorola 68882 FPU installed into the socket on my Asante MCiLC LC PDS network card. What can I do about this noise? It's driving me crazy & the Mac has also frozen once before briefly (it was running for hours on end though). Somehow a couple of minutes later Mac OS 7.5.5 managed to unfreeze itself. When I upgrade to Mac OS 7.6.1 will my FPU be better supported? The Mac has 12 MB of RAM though it only sees 10 MB too. Virtual Memory is also turned on since I'm trying to get Cyberdog 2.0 to run. Cyberdog 2.0 also freezes the Mac whenever I try to go to Apple's Support site too.

    Craigwd_2000
It is characteristic of the Colour Classic, CC II, Performa 250, LC II, Performas 40x, and others that I wot not of from direct experience, that the lowest 2MB of 12MB installed are not addressed by the MMU. Pointless, but true. Add 2 x 2MB to the base 4MB and 8MB wil be used. Add 2 x 4MB and only the top 10MB will be used. If you feel limited by this, replace the LC II logic board with a Q 605 board and add a 32MB (or 128MB) 72-pin SIMM. My Elsie sings with the latter combination, and can run OS 8.1 with aplomb. With more RAM you wil be able to abandon Cyberdog (unless you wish to savour the agonies), and accommodate other applications with greater memory demands.
As far as the buzz goes, you can confirm the cause as electrical or mechanical (eg, the fan) by muting the speaker output, removing the FPU (if it is socketted) or the card if it is not, detaching the 4-pin power plug from the HDD or the cable from the FDD, and so on, one at a time.
You need only to elevate the rear of the case, as has been suggested, to increase ventilation enough. Given that, and the inner cleanliness that so-and-so's tonic water can produce ... you can find the source of the noise by attacking the suspects systematically. The speaker is awkwardly situated for direct listening, but you can do it with the case top off. Make sure of the security of the cables routed around the speaker, in case one or other is loose and being struck by the fan.

  • Does a mac perform self diagnostics during sleep mode?

does a mac perform self diagnostics during sleep mode? I was told it does about 10 years ago.

    Russa wrote:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2319
Russa, from the KB article you linked notice that those maintenance scripts are no longer invoked by cron. They are invoked by launchd:
    Additional Information
The tasks are scheduled for 03:15 to 05:30 in your computer's local time zone. This is described further in "Mac OS X: Unexplained Disk Activity Produced by 'find' Process." These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large in Mac OS X v10.5 or earlier.
Therefore no user intervention is required, unless you are running Mac OS X "Leopard" or earlier.
It may seem overly pedantic to bring this up but this common misconception has a tendency to lead people into believing a Mac requires the user to perform maintenance over and beyond what OS X already accomplishes by default.
As others have written, a Mac takes care of its own housekeeping. It is best to simply let it work as designed.

there is  a software being advertixed  called mackeeper.  said to speed up Mac performance etc.  is this Apple supported?

No, that is malware. Do not download it.
If you have already downloaded it, you may need a complex procedure to uninstall it.
If it were good, you would already know about it. It would not appear in pop-up ads like the SPAM that is is.
If it were needed to maintain your Mac, Apple would have included it.

  • About the performance of using shared variables

    Hi
My system has almost 200 I/O points,I want to the host communicates with PLC using OPC(I had create a OPC I/O Server).
If I use shared variables bind to OPC data items, there must be almost 200 shared variables.
And my puzzle is that what's the performance of using these shared variables, will they eat up memory and processor?
Another question is that if an shared variable will be time-lapse(i.e.,if an OPC data item value change feedback to  program block with 0 delay or not),if so ,then how many millseconds it will delaies?

here is a paper about the performance of shared variables.

  • Mac Performa 405 Won't Boot

I have a Mac Performa 405 that won't boot. It's running Mac OS 7.6.1 with maxed out RAM & VRAM. I have installed a networking card with optional Motorola 68882 FPU in the LC PDS slot. It has a Revision B LC II logic board. I have already tried replacing the power supply. I also updated Open Transport to v. 1.1.2. My next move is going to be trying to replace the fan. The Mac won't even bong. What should I do to get my Mac working again? Is the hard drive dead?

Update: I have swapped the RAM in my Performa 405 out for the RAM that originally came with it. This resulted in some very odd things happening. The RAM I was using before was parity memory. The RAM I found in the Mac when it was given to me was non parity. The RAM I had in the RAM slots before had three memory chips. The RAM I found in the Mac originally only had two RAM chips. Swapping the RAM also appears to have affected the logic board too. Now polarity on the fan plug as measured with my digital multimeter has changed. Before when the parity memory was installed the plug at the left was negative & the middle plug was positive. Changing back to the original non parity RAM changed the polarity of the logic board's fan connector so that now the middle plug is negative & the plug on the right is positive. I was also wondering what other tests I should perform too. The Mac also now bongs & is acting more normally than before.

  • About the performance of plumtree portal.

Please let me ask a question about the performance of plumtree portal. The good reply is not obtained although I have asked the support center in Japan.I saw the log of ptspy.Delay had occurred in the following two points.
    1. Although it is a "<.static.> InetHost::Select(xxxx) is called on 0 write+xx read sockets." part, what processing is performed actually in the message by the plum tree by the processing of inethost.cpp in a WebDownloaderParallel.dll component?
    2. Although it is the part of "CreateFilterContext()-Created new context at address" by the message, is it the operation which is creating the context path for connection with the exterior in PTGWFilter.cpp in a Gateway component?
Moreover, although delay of processing may occur in these parts, what factor can be considered?
    Thanks,

All lines are Performance type and I guess turning off performance output of ptspy may
    elimnate this bottle neck.

  • In fact it's about mac:excel, how convert in a cell a number written in text format into a value?

    in fact it's about mac:excel8 or 11 in OSX10.7.4,
how convert in a cell a number written in text format into its value?
    cheers francois

    Hi francois,
If I copyone of them and do a past special/value, it does not work.
Try just Paste instead of Paste Special > Value
I know your question is about Excel, but this works in Numbers:
Copy 1 234 567 (with spaces) and Paste (not Paste Special) into a Cell in a Numbers Table. The result is 1234567 and it behaves as a number. A formula will consider it to be a number:
You asked Wayne: what do you mean by "to reference a cell" ??
The reference is from Cell A2 to Cell A1 through a formula, such as: =A1+1
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Is there any benchmarks about the performance of BI web Intelligence

Need to know any benchmarks about the performance of business objects web intelligence report against number of records stored in a relational database

There no as such benchmark. However you can verify the actual time take by report query when fired directly on DB and time taken by Report to execute. and if there is lots of difference, then those report would ideal for tuning.
e.g. if MOnthwise revenue report takes 5 mins and the actual query takes only 1.5 mins when fired directly on DB. that means something wrong with universe/reports.
I hope this help you to get started.
Please share your exp. its interesting to know.

  • Best pratices for the customizing about the performance

    Hello,
I would like to know the list of the best pratices for the customizing BPC NW 7.5 about the performance.
    Best regards
    Bastien

    Hi,
There are few how to guides on SDN which will give you a basic idea on script logic. Apart from this, you can refer to the help guide on help. sap.com.
The templates might also effect the performance. The number of EVDRE functions, the number of expansion dimensions, the number of members on which expansion takes place will effect the performance. A complex formatting in the template will also effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can Anyone Recommend Books About Mac and Tiger?

    Hello,
I'm heading back to the homeland for a short visit in a week's time. I'd like to buy a book that can explain a few things about Tiger so I don't always have to visit the Apple Store and bother the Geniuses there.
Can anyone recommend any good books about Mac and Tiger? I know of "Mac For Dummies" but I've never been a big fan of that series. Cheers and thanks.

    Hi, jasperboy.
My "Learning About Mac OS X" FAQ has a number of resources that you will find helpful including books, online training, and more.
    Good luck!

  • Protools Suggested Tweaks For Mac Performance

Anyone got any experience of the pro tools suggested tweaks for mac performance e.g turning off Dashboard and Spotlight in terminal and so on. They are found on the DUC forum. I use mainly Logic 8, but occasionally Protools LE. I am trying to squeeze as much juice out of my early MBP as possible so have used them. Any thoughts. Any known issues for Logic.
See my other post re eSATA etc, also any advantages putting apple loops and extra audio content on external eSATA with BFD etc?
    Thanks,
    Elvisfridge.

Turn OFF Airport, if you have wireless internet.
Run Logic by itself e.g. don't run email, safari, videogames, unix console, Word, etc... at the same time. This goes for ANY DAW platform.
Printing effects when you have commited to them, ie if you have a CPU hungry plugin, print it as soon as you're done editing the MIDI / or audio performance. then remove the plugin.
    Cheers
