About my earlier post

i tried to respond to it, unfortunately, because of this program, adobe flash player 11, i am unable to do so. i un-installed it and downloaded and re-installed version 10.3 and still i'm having the same problems. i am also unable to see what is in the inbox of my email. the thing says it's installed, but when i do the "manage add ons" routine, like other people, it's not there. you tube still swears i don't have a current version of flash player, and it also swears i don't have java. neither of these are true. you guys released a product that is destroying and wreaking havoc on computers. now, as for my system information, here it is in full:

i await your response. be forewarned, i'll have to start a whole new topic in order to respond, seeing as anytime i click on the "reply" button nothing happens. that is the same issue with trying to download the new flash player 11 from the download page. i click on the link, nothing happens. now, i'm having this problem on every website i go to, at least the ones that will come up and display instead of the blank white screen i keep getting everywhere.

Thank you for the details.  I suggest you try the following
go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550 and download (save to disk)
the 32-bit uninstaller
the 32-bit installer for your browser
close all browser windows and run the downloaded uninstaller
restart Windows
go to C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash and delete any remaining files in there
now run the downloaded installer
Can you now see Shockwave Flash under your browser add-ons, and is it enabled?
Can you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

  • Console bouncing erratically (earlier post marked answered prematurely)

Sorry about this apparent double post. Asked earlier why Console, opened, and set to bounce, wasn't bouncing. I don't want to add this to the earlier post, since, as it's marked answered, I don't think anyone will notice it there any more.

Saw it bounce a few times after a while and figured all was well, but apparently not. No bouncing again, even when I see there has been a new entry. I'd still appreciate any ideas about why this may be behaving like this. Thanks.

    Hi again,
I am puzzled. You had said,
Or start from the OSX installer disc and run both
repair disk and then repair disk permissions
Disc Utility, +when repairing permissions booted from the disc+, found many permissions errors. Booted back afterwards from the Mac HD in Safe Boot, to repair permissions again, it seems all those corrections were reversed, and repairing permissions again, booted regularly, not in Safe Boot, DU found no errors. DU booted from the disc, apparently, has a different idea of permissions from the actual, installed OS.
The following is from DU booted from the OS when it reversed all the corrections made by DU booted from the disc:
    Repairing permissions for “Hard Drive”

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

I still am having problems with Aperture not loading,  It just refuses to work, and I get the message saying it has encountered a problem, and I may need to re-install which I have done dozens of times. The fix mentioned on an earlier post doesn't work as it is for Ver 10.6.6 and I am running 10.6.7

  • I was reading an earlier post about upgrading to 10.9.2 and still using Office for Mac Excell 2004.  Will Excell 2004 work with OS 10.9.2 or is there an Open Office I can use?

I currently have 10.9.2 and just purchased Office 365.  The 365 won't work for what I want to do.  Need to go backe to Excell 2004.  Is there anyway to do this with my current OS?  Need to interface with a Windows 2003 Excell user.

Need to interface with a Windows 2003 Excell user.
First, MS Office 2004 will not work on versions of OS X Lion or later including your 10.9.2.  On Mavericks you need Office 2011.
Second, the difference between Excel formats in Office 2008/2011 vs. earlier versions of Excel is that Office 2008/20011 uses the ".xlsx" filetype but earlier versions including Windows Excel 2003 use the older ".xls" filetype.  The older versions of Excel can't open the newer ".xlsx" filetype ... but there is a way you can exchange Excel files between the newer and older versions of Excel!
In Office 2008/2011 just SAVE AS Excel 97-2004 Workbook (.xls) if you need to use or exchange your Excel file with earlier versions of Excel, Windows or Mac.  And, going the other way, Excel 2008/2011 can open and use the older .xls files just fine.

  • Keys out of order -- follow up to earlier post

I ran the install disc Disc Utility Test and the Hardware Test disc on the computer since I posted my first question earlier tonight "Computer won't finish start-up -- any suggestions". The Hardware Test came back fine. The Disc Utility test on the install disc says: Keys out of order. It does not, however, explain how to repair this problem on the hard drive.
Is there any way to fix this problem on the hard drive?
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Invest in DiskWarrior. I had the same problem and DiskWarrior fixed it. No other utility programs worked for this problem. DiskWarrior is very inexpensive. Ordered online in the afternoon. It was delivered to my office the NEXT morning.

  • PSE9 Printing - update to an earlier post ... and a BUG

I had noted as an aside in a reply to another post that I had serious issues with PSE9 printing, specfically Custom Print Sizes.
My comment related to the inability to get the sizes (4-up  5.25x3.74) which I used with PSE7.
I have since found two things, one positive and one negative.
    Positive
It appears, at least with my printer that there is a flag on the  printer setup which PSE9 seems to be looking at while PSE7 was not.   That flag is "Borderless Printing".  When set, PSE9 printing will allow  the larger print sizes I was used to.  I tested this using 8x10 photo  size (which was 7.2x9.5 before I set that flag and is now 8x10), and  with my 4-up custom size of 5.25x3.74
    Negative
I tried my 4-up size of 5.25x3.74.  PSE9 reduced that a tiny bit, not worth talking about, but I think it was 5.24x3.73
HOWEVER, as each page of 4 was requested and printed, the set  custom-size was reduced -- I tried 10 pages and each reduced it a bit,  the final being about 5.07x3.68 -- THIS is a BUG!!
If this "BUG" gets fixed, then printing (for me) seems pretty good.

The reduction is size is due to the limitation posed by the printer. If you try it with other softwares, then also the size is reduced. In case you don't want this, check the option for borderless printing. This streches a image a bit, so that borders do not remain when we print the image.

  • Photoshop CS6: Question about Resolution when Post-Cropping Film Scans

Hopefully, somebody with more understanding than I on this topic, can help me with this.
I am about to get a film scanner I have on order, to scan in 35mm negatives. I've had one before but I had problems with the model and had to return it.
When scanning film frames, I like the idea of setting the scan area marquee, at the scanning stage, so that it scans slightly beyond the film frame edges, so that I can carefully crop to the edge of the film frame later, in Photoshop CS6, rather than setting it, at the scanning stage, and then later, when examining the film frame in CS6, maybe discovering that I have not scanned to the edge of the film frame quite enough, as I can easily zoom right into the image when in CS6, to carefully examine where the film frame edges are.
My concern about doing it like this, though, is that I may be reducing the resolution of the image. For example, say I scan a film frame in at 3600ppi, and later crop the image slightly in CS6 in order to precisely trim off any slight amount of black around the film frame edges. By cropping the film frame like this in CS6, am I reducing the image resolution of the film frame to lower than 3600ppi? As I best understand it, I do not think post-cropping like this results in any reduction in image resolution, but am I correct in thinking this?

    Hi.
The scanner is a Reflecta ProScan 7200. As I said to station_two, I am in London. I understand the brand is known as 'Pacific Image' over in the US.
The scanning software I will be using it with will be 'SilverFast Ai Studio 8'.
Do take a look at this excellent review of the scanner:
    http://www.filmscanner.info/en/ReflectaProScan7200.html
(I may be incorrectly assuming too much when on these forums that I am speaking exclusively with folk from the US - the way you spell 'labour' makes me think you are not from the US?)

  • I know there has been threads about this, "DELETE POST"

I know there has been threads about this, but I want to be able to delete one of my posts.

    Rascal,
There are a number of reasons that members cannot delete their own posts.
One being that it could cause some confusion when reading a thread.
Say an OP starts a topic, and other members respond to that topic. Then the OP deletes the original post. Readers would not know what the replies are addressing.
You have about 15 minutes to edit the content of a post, but you cannot eliminate it entirely.

  • Sticky about where to post?

    Hosts,
Could you make a sticky in this forum about people having to 'drill down' to post, rather than trying to post on the 'category' page?
(For example, you can't post in the "Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard" forum, but have to go into "Using Mac OS X Leopard" instead.)
    Thanks!

well, yes, but it seems like there is another couple of posts every day about 'not being able to post a topic'.
It was the same way with changing aliases, but that seems to have abated now with the sticky about it.
And yes, not all posters will read that, but there will be some who will, just as there are those who saw the sticky about changing aliases, and just as we haven't seen a new alias-changing post since Feb 12th, the day the sticky was created.

  • Follow up question to my earlier post

If, when I try to print, I see the message "Library/Printers/hp/cups/inkjet4.driver failed" after having installed Apple's HP Printer Driver v3.0 on my iMac purchased in 2011 (and used with my HP Photosmart eStation c510 purchased in 2011), what does that mean? What do I need to do?
    Thank you.
    Patrick R. Hanke

    Hi @PatrickHanke,
I see you are experiencing a error message when trying to print. I will try my best to help you out.
Depending on what operating system you are on, you can download the HP software from this URL. If you you are on 10.9, run the Apple Updates to install the printer.
HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Printer - C510a Drivers.
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer.
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
    Run the installation.
Then check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name.
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Test the printer.
What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Disappointed about the "early upgrade" and "free" LTE phone promo...

I must say I'm rather disappointed with Verizon as of late.  First, I was told that adding my wife to my plan wouldn't interfere with any of our services and then was charged $500 in text message fees when I found the store had not put my unlimited texting back where it was supposed to be.  Then, I was given the $15 unlimited data promotion for a year which was also taken off after adding the wife to my plan.  Neither of these caveats were explained to me by anybody when these "promotions" were given.  I guess it comes as no surprise, then, that this one was a load of garbage too.
I have talked to several customer service representatives and Lord I must say there are dozens of curse words I would like to use right now.  I logged in to MyVerizon the other night after checking up on data usage since I have unlimited data but the wife is capped at 2GB.  I see a promotion in the bottom window "Recommended for You" that says I can get a free upgrade to a 4G LTE phone at no cost to me.  Obviously, I'm going to click on the link as I hadn't really thought of upgrading to 4G's higher end phones until the prices came down a little more.  Instead of being given the option to choose from my phones, it adds the Nexus to my cart and says I have to pay full upgrade price.  I go back to the other phones, and now they all say full upgrade price.  I go back to the home page, and now the "Free 4G phone" offer isn't even showing up.
Now, if you're still following this, I immediately called customer service and the first person I spoke to seemed more interested in getting off of the line with me as they advised me to wait for the promotion to pop back up and I will get it for sure.
I called back a couple of days later when I didn't see it and spoke to a nice young lady who then told me that she wasn't sure why it had done that to me but that I was eligible for the 4G discount - $100 off of any LTE phone and that I misunderstood "Free LTE phone".
Look.  I know the difference between "$100 off" and "Free".  One costs money, the other doesn't.  One gives me a discount on the phone I would have upgraded to later this year, and the other gives it to me for free.  Why would I upgrade now to save money on a phone that I will buy discounted in the future?
I told her that was not what I was offered and that I want what I had been offered.  She went to speak to a supervisor, and then came back and told me that the free LTE deal was a south-only promo.  Fair enough, but then why was I offered the deal and then all efforts were made to prevent me from going back to take advantage of it?  When I mentioned this, she said that her supervisor had said that they could give me the free phone if I agreed to drop my unlimited data to 5GB/monthly as that is what the southern promotion was.
I did some research and spoke to a friend who lives in the south and their promo was a free phone with unlimited data grandfathered in.  So what the heck gives with this misinformation?  I felt as if they knew I wouldn't give up unlimited data and were just trying to get me off of the phone.
Finally, I spoke with a gentleman tonight who seemed helpful until we arrived at the same point.  Except he told me that the previous customer service reps had misinformed me again and that the southern promotion was indeed grandfathered unlimited data.  I told him "Great, sign me up then".  Then the disappointment set in.  He said that it couldn't be done at all. He said I should have taken the offer last night and then had my unlimited data reinstated (as there is a 14-day policy for such a thing apparently).  So I asked why it was offered to me before with the intention of getting me to give up my unlimited data but now it wasn't being offered to me at all.  I was told "I don't know, I'm sorry".  Well, that doesn't fix the problem, does it?  He tried everything he could to sell me the lesser phones (that I already mentioned were a step down from my current phone - the Fascinate) and then basically ended the call saying nothing more could be done.
This is absolutely ridiculous to be treated this way.  I have paid my bill on time, and I know that Verizon is the most expensive carrier out there.  I have cheaper options, but I chose Verizon because the service is incomparable.  Why am I being told lie after lie after lie about what can and can't be done and being offered promos that I can't even get?  This wouldn't have even been an issue if I had just been given the original promotion I was offered without losing my unlimited data and I feel like your associate simply enjoy dangling carrots in front of peoples' faces.
I use quite a bit of data and I enjoy my service but my patience is beginning to wear very thin between incompetent store associates and lying customer service representatives.  With my upgrade coming up soon and my contract ending soon after I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right choice in leaving AT&T at all.
Utter nonsense.  I feel cheated and worst of all I feel as if I was baited into a promotion I will now never get despite the fact that it was promised to me one night and then forbidden the next.

And to make it even worse, each person told me to just "check back later" and "maybe the phone I wanted" would be discounted.
If it was "maybe" discounted, why not just save the trouble, the customer, and the time, and just give me what you offered me?
    So annoyed right now....
