About Netscape in Solaris

I've encountered a problem, I have a webpage which would be browsed under Windows IE/Netscape, but when I try to browse it in Sun's Workstation's Netscape, the Netscape is closed. I don't know why it would be like that, any hints to me? please send me an email if you know. [email protected]

I was wondering if anyone happened to know if a program written for Solaris for Intel can run on a Solaris for Sun... The program would be written using Java and Oracle.

  • About incompatibility between Solaris 10 and Solaris 8

    Dear all
I am investigating about incompatibility between Solaris 10 and Solaris 8.
But I can't find incompatibility information (I can find some compatibility imformation).
Please tell me about that if you know.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Programs running on Solaris 8 should run on Solaris 10, but programs that run on Solaris 10 won't necessarily run on Solaris 8.
    Solaris is always forward-compatible.

  • Problem with Sessions, Servlets, Netscape and Solaris

We are experiencing a problem that is confounding and frustrating us (I have
a felling that it is something exremely minor that we are overlooking).
              Here goes:
              Context:
The problem only occurs when using a netscape browser against weblogic
4.51running on our Solaris 7 box (Everything works fine through IE, and
through both browsers against our development machines which are on NT)
              Problem:
We have a bunch of JSP pages and servlets that are used togehter throughout
our site. They both manage session information for the user. What is
happening is that there is no problem maintaining session information among
all the JSP pages, but when we hit a servlet that we use to stream graphs
back to the browser, it gets the session but it has no contents all of a
sudden. What seems to be even more strange is that the session is not
tagged as new (by checking isNew()), it is just empty of the contents that
were placed it by the JSP pages. Again, this is only occurring from
Netscape browsers against our Solaris server.
If anyone can provide any help it would be greatly appreciated. I can
provide more details if need be.
              Jeremy

There is a property in the weblogic.properties file that lets you set
the cookie name. If this isn't set, the port will be appended as part of
the name. I've had a similar problem switching between http and https
              and losing sessions.

  • Execute Netscape in Solaris

    Hi!
I have a Java application in Solaris. This application has a button that when it is pressed it may start Netscape. But it doesn't happen. When you press the button and error occurs:
    netscape: couldn't find our resources?
This could mean that there is an inappropriate 'Netscape' file installed
in the app-defaults directory. Check these environment variables and the
    directories to which they point:
    $XAPPLRESDIR
    $XFILESEARCHPATH
    $XUSERFILESEARCHPATH
Also check for this file in your home directory, or in the directory
    called 'app_defaults' somewhere under /usr/lib.
Otherwise if you execute Netscape with a terminal or with the
fromPanel, it starts. With the button, if you execute another program it
    can starts.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need a succussion about Antivirus for Solaris

In my office we have SUN SPARC MACHINE with SOLARIS 7 which is connected by other machine (all the other machine OS are in Windows). I am affraid of virus. Can anyone give good idea or good antivirus which take care of all virus.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dwarak

    Hello,
I dont exactly understand what you ask for. Are you looking for an antivirus to protect your Solaris box? If this is your problem, dont be afraid of it, because windows viruses wont afect Solaris. Theres no virus problem with Solaris.
Other thing is virus transmision. For example, IIf you get an infected email on Solaris and send it to a user with Windows, it will receive the virus. In this line, and considering that Solaris machines are usually email servers, gateways, etc... some companies have developed Antivirus Gateways for filtering all incoming and outgoing viruses (for example, a gateway like this would work like a virus firewall on a corporate email server, so the users wont receive any infected network traffic).
Also most antivirus companies, considering Solaris stability, availability, etc... have developed antivirus servers for solaris, that act like a central server for the windows clients for actualizations, cleaning shcheduling, etc...
You can take a look and learn about this, for example at trend-micros web page:
    www.antivirus.com
If you have other needs just post them. Bye,

  • About Netscape Suitespot

    Hi
Can any body help me to give me the url from where I can Download th Netscape Suitespot 4.0 for Solaris OS.

Rajan - The Netscape Suitespot is long, long End Of Lifed (EOL). You should be taking this opportunity to upgrade to the latest Web Server release, Sun java System Web Server 7.0.

  • Big question about dns in solaris 10

    hi,
in solaris 10 dns[client] is working fine even though the service is in disabled state.
    bash-3.00# svcs -a | grep dns
    disabled Oct_07 svc:/network/dns/server:default
    disabled 20:13:50 svc:/network/dns/client:default
    bash-3.00#
still i can able to resolve the ip address.
*my question is will this affect anything.. like autofs [net/<machine name>] concept.*
    Thanks.

In short, no. Hostname resolution is guided by the /etc/nsswitch.conf file, and the /etc/resolv.conf file tells the resolver which DNS servers to contact.
The network/dns/client service is actually part of the DNS server. If you start the DNS service with "svcadm enable network/dns/server", then the client service will start also (try it yourself).

  • About Installation of Solaris 9 OE x86...

    Dear Experts,
I am a newbie on Solaris. When I use the suninstall to install the Solaris on my system, it occurs an error of my VGA. I am using the GeForce 4. How can I install the Solaris correctly?
    Thanks.

Did you select the Black&White VGA video driver? The second part of the Solaris installation (the java
webstart installer) is incompatible with B&W graphics and needs at least 8-bit pseudocolor graphics.
Try the VESA driver. It should support 8-bit graphics on almost every video adapter.
If it does not work with the VESA driver, then try installing from the "Software 1 of 2" CD, and choose
"bypass" on the screen where you select the video card / keyboard and mouse configuration.
The Solaris installation will continue in text mode.
Once solaris is installed, add the XFree86 video driver porting kit, and configure the video card using the
    "kdmconfig" command.

  • How about gccfss for Solaris x86/x64 platforms?

Subject says it all... it could make compiling a lot of code out there a whole lot easier!
    Bob

I also desire gccfss for Solaris x86/x64 platforms .
In the interim I have downloaded the source and am attempting to create such a beast.
It is slow progress to fix the unexpected script breakage, but it seems to be going OK:
    Problems:
1.): Issues like "-mtune=v9" and an "embeded spec" in gcc and cpp (from files
    gccfss_src/build/gcc/gccspec.o and gccfss_src/build/gcc/cppspec.o).
    2.): Use of OPTTABLE_H = $(srcdir)/config/target-option-table.h with SPARC specific
    options throughout
    EG:
    #ifdef CROSS_COMPILE
    #define NATIVE \
    { "-native", "-xtarget=generic" }, \
    { "-xarch=native64", "-Zarch=v9 -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=64" },\
    { "-xarch=native", "-Zarch=v8plus -Zarchm32=v8plus -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=32" },\
    { "-xtarget=native64", "-Zarch=generic -Zarchm32=generic -Zarchm64=v9 -xchip=generic -xcache=generic -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native", "-Zarch=generic -Zarchm32=generic -Zarchm64=v9 -xchip=generic -xcache=generic -Zm=32"}
    #else
    #define NATIVE \
    { "-native", "-xtarget=native" }, \
    { "-xarch=native64", "-xarch=native64 -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xarch=native", "-xarch=native -Zm=32"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native64", "-xtarget=native64 -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native", "-xtarget=native -Zm=32"}
    #endif
Thus, one would need to change:
    { "-xarch=native64", "-Zarch=v9 -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=64" },\
    to something like:
    { "-xarch=native64", "-xarch=386 -m64" },\
3.): Copy the "sparc_output_scratch_registers()" function from file
    "gccfss_src/src/gcc/config/sparc/sparc.c" to "gccfss_src/src/gcc/tree-ir.c".
4.): Use the undocumented command line option "-frtl-backend" when this error
occurs during the build (a simple Makefile change):
`-mcpu=' is deprecated. Use `-mtune=' or '-march=' instead.
xgcc: SUNW0scgfss 4.2.0 has not been installed. Either install it or use -frtl-backend.
    5.): More ...
All these issues occur because the scripts expect "--build=sparc-pc-solaris2.11" but
I configured using "--build=i386-pc-solaris2.11" . It seems like it is going to work
but I am yet to finish stage1 of the build (I do have a working "xgcc").

  • Sample plugins not working with Netscape 7 on Solaris 8.

I'm trying to build a scriptable plugin for deployment into Netscape 7
    and Solaris 8.
I finally got mozilla 1.4.1 built under Solaris 8 and deployed the
plugin from modules/plugin/tools/sdk/samples/simple. By deployed I
mean that I copied the libnpsimple.so file to the netscape plugin
directory and copied the .xpt files to the netscape components
directory. I even removed the xpti.dat file from the netscape
components directory so that it will get regenerated when netscape 7
    is started.
I started up netscape 7 and checked about plugins and I find the
simple plugin in the list of enabled plugins. So far, so good.
    I open the test.html file in modules/plugin/tools/sdk/samples/simple
into the browser and click on the version button and I get an alert
box that displays "undefined". Also, if I reload the page netscape
    crashes.
I also tried the scriptable sample plugin with essentially the same
    result.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get a sample plugin to work with
    Netscape 7 on Solaris 8.
Some help would be very much appreciated.

  • Netscape Bug on Solaris 8 for x86

Has anyone else had a problem with Netscape on Solaris 8 for Intel? when I resize the Netscape window, shortly afterwards, the display begins to corrupt the CDE desktop with objects that should be displayed within the Netscape window. When I exit Netscape, the entire CDE goes white with black lines across the screen.
I've downloaded the latest version of Netscape Communicator for Intel Platforms. Netscape V4.76.
    I've installed the x86_Recommended patches.
I still have the same problem. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Yes, I'm having the same problem. however when I exit out of netscape and refresh the screen everything is ok. Please let me know if you've solved the problem.

  • About Solaris 10 release

Someone know what is the meaning of the last numbers/letter on the /etc/release?
Example: (I'm talking about the 07b)
     Solaris 10 10/08 s10s_u6wos_07b SPARC

    Thanks in advance

    Why would you care?
Thats the version info it gives for a Solaris 10 10/08 aka Solaris 10u6 installation.
You'll never see one with anything different there.
    So what does it matter?
