About OAS and WebDB

Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me what are the differences between
OAS and WebDB in terms of providing services to manage database
thru HTTP ?
Also, has anyone has succesful case on installing 8i, OAS and
WebDB on RedHat 6.0 using the same machine ?
Pardon for my ignorance. I am very new to this OAS and WebDB
thing. Thank you.

Joe,
I have heard that you can install OAS version 302 on the same
machine as an Oracle8i DB but I have heard problems of installing
WebDB on the same machine as Oracle8i.

  • Is there any OAS and WebDb for RH6.0 now?

    Hi,
I get a lot of trouble when I install the Webdb on RH 6.0, and
I get a very sad story that it does not work on RH6.0 at all.
Is there any WebDB for RH6.0 be available now, or we can use
some way to make it run?
I also meet some trouble when I install the OAS 4.0.7 on RH6.0
too. After install the OAS, I find that the SQL*NET in OAS 4.0.7
    does not work under RH6.0.
    Any help should be appreciated.

    MimiKLM,
I don't know of a way to modify the default value of built-in primitives as you create them (so, making a numeric Local variable default to a value other than 0). As Juergen mentioned, if you create a custom data type, you can set a default in the Type Editor.
Are you instead referring to setting a default value for a specific variable in your sequence? You can easily do this by simply setting a value in the Variables pane. For example, if I have a numeric Local variable called MyVar in my MainSequence, I can click on it in the Variables pane and set the value to any number I want, such as 3. This will change the default value of that variable.

  • OAS and/or WebDB

Hello, all! I have a real quick question should I install
WebDB and/or OAS on the same directory as $ORACLE_HOME or a
different one. The reason I'm asking is that I tried and OAS
replace all ORACLE executables and the libs are messed up big
    time...suggestions pleaseeeeeeeee!
    THanks!

Database will install automatically with OAS.No, unless you mean the infrastructure database, which I wouldn't use anyway for application data.
Or i have to install OAS and Database separately.Yes.
what will be the order, which i should install first.Database first.

  • OAS4 and WebDB linux platforms?

    Hello...
Anyway know if the OAS4 and WebDB for Linux that Oracle has
recently amde available are for glibc 2.0 or 2.1? Or does it
matter? Will they work with either? I know I could go read
documentation but I don't feel their documentation is as reliable
as the posts in this forum :)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I do not know which glibc WEBDB requires but it works fine with
    glibc 2.07 from Suse 6.1
The install instructions talk about redhat 5.1: is that glibc
    2.0.x?
As soon as oas download is complete we will see what that
    requires.

  • OWS or OAS and CGI's signals sent

    Hello
I've got a question about CGI and OWS (or OAS, it's the same problem)
I've got a C compiled program which intercept signals (especially SIGUSR1) and execute a task (for exemple a simple "printf" and exit
The program do an infinite loop
program. When i execute this program in a shell window, the program loop infinitely which is logical. In a second shell window i send signal SIGUSR1 (with a "kill -USR1") to the process of the program. Immediatly, the program execute the task and exit. The program works perfectly.
Now, i put the program in a cgi directory configured in a Web listener
I execute the program in a navigator (Netscape) with an url likes http://my_server/my_cgi_directory/my_program
    The program loops
I creates a cgi program (a shell) which gets the id process of the program which loops and send the USR1 signal. I put this cgi program in my cgi directory.
In a second navigator, i launch the cgi program which normally send USR1 signal, and the program which loops should execute the correctly task and exit as it does.
And now, the program don't exit, in fact it doesn't launch the task.
I've got the same problem with OWS 3.02, OAS 4.08, linux, aix platform.
I've tried to send the USR1 signal in a window shell but no action, the signals are blocked.
The only two signals KILL and STOP works properly, in a window shell AND in an URL with navigator.
Have you got this problem too ?? Which is the solution ??? I'have open a call to ORACLE SUPPORT but no response, they say the problem perhaps will never be solved (for them, it may not be a BUG)
    Thanks in advance

    Regarding to issue #1,
I would suggest to the change your virtual path to physical path mapping setting in OAS. The OJSP engine will lookup pages relative to your physical path (not the default doc root).
    Regarding to issue #2,
Unfortunately, the information you provided is rather limited. It's difficult to do some definite diagnositic based the brief description. Sorry.

  • OAS and Linux and Apache

I have successfully installed OAS 4.0.8.1 on Linux RedHat 6.1. The default (oracle) http listner runs fine, after setting it to port 81. I did this because the default http server for Linux (Apache 1.3.9-4) is on 80. I would like to use Apache as my http listner, and have found some documentation on how to do this at http://www.olab.com/doc/books/admin/thirdp.htm, but am a little confused with the instructions. It states that Apache must be compiled with mod_so support. I have verified that this is so with the "httpd -l" command. Before that, it mentions that...
"libapadp.so must be linked into the Apache HTTP Server." Can anyone tell me how this is done, and with which version of Apache should be used? 1.3.6 seems to be a popular one and is mentioned in the Oracle Application Server Installation Guide for Release 4.0.8.1 in Certified Software.
I have tried to move libapadp.so and ndwfapd.so into the /modules subdirectory my Apache install (once again 1.3.9-4) and adding "LoadModule ows_module ndwfapd.so" in my httpd.conf file, but when the server tries to start, I get the error message...
"Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/ndwfapd.so into server:libapadp.so: cannot open shared object file:No such file or directory"
Has anyone run into this problem? I imagine many people have done this. As I am new to Linux and OAS and Apache, maybe I'm missing something fundamental that I haven't learned yet, but hey, isn't this what learning is all about?
If anyone can help me with this hurdle, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kirby

    Hi Guys,
I am pulling my hair out with this one too.
I tried to link the library "libapadp.so" to
apache using the Makefile in the source directory by adding the path and libapadp.so to the EXTRALIBS variable. It works in the
sense that it tried to link the lib but fails because there are a bunch of unresolved dependencies. As somebody else stated, Oracles documentation sucks. I ask for support and got sent here, I guess that they don't know how to make it work either.
Will let you know if I have any success.
    Brett.

Your error message is relating to Apache not being able to find the shared module. You can fix this by telling it explicitly where to find it since it doesn't seem to be in the PATH.
    LoadModule ows_module /opt/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/ows/4.0/lib/ndwfapd.so
Your directory structure may be different. In any case, this SHOULD work, my Apache listeners start up, but they don't actually respond to requests and they freeze the machine. Oh well.
    Still working on it!

  • JAVA IDE options for development against OAS and Oracle8i

I'm wondering whether JDeveloper is the only Java IDE option
when developing Java apps for deployment on OAS and Oracle8i.
Is it possible to use VisualCaf     or Jbuilder instead and how
does these tools compare to JDeveloper?

JDeveloper2 provides a natural coupling to OAS and 8i which no
other tools offer. The Connection Manager, Oracle's InfoBus
beans, Info Form wizards, CORBA definition wizards, deployment
wizards for 8i etc. are all there to tie the suite together.
I used JBuilder with 8i813beta well before JDev2Beta was
released for Web Server Applications/CORBA. 8i provides a
number of command line utilities(loadjava, dropjava, publish,
sess_sh etc) to perform the deployment of CORBA objects. JDev2
are essentially calling those utilities but wrapped around a GUI.
You can certainly use other tools but you will probably discover
some critical features are missing. Features such as SQLJ
support and a light weight servlet engine for debugging servlets
    are well worth it.
One thing I hope Oracle would address is remote debugging of
Java in the Database(either JSProcs/CORBA objects). You can
certainly debug CORBA objects outside the database using
Visibroker/OSAgent but this means you have to change a lot of
code for debugging b/c Visibroker doesn't support sess_iiop nor
    AuroraJTS.
    DEV TEAM ARE YOU LISTENING!!!<g>
There are a number of other concerns that I've listed in a
post "heavy IIOP issues - 8i/408" but nobody has responded to
    that and probably never will.
I think JDev3 with OBC4J will offer further encouragement to
move away from other dev tools though. Depending on whether
your organisation will take advantage of this new enterprise app
framework you may not need to make the move. I dont know I
haven't used it but I'm waiting in anticipation. I'd be
interested in hearing what the beta testers are saying about the
    speed issues!

  • OAS and Port 80

I followed the instructions here to change my server to Port 80. OAS 10g (9.0.4) on Windows Server 2003
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10464_05/core.904/b10376/ports.htm#i1040069
From my windows XP machine in my office, my website works fine. I switch to my linux box and I get intermittent results. (the site sits and does not load, or loads some times). Many clients on windows xp machines cannot access the site. It is an apex site running on OAS, and I created a static test page which they cannot access at all. I am currently waiting for our support contract to be settled with metalink, but I am kinda at my wits end here, and need results, and that is why I turn to the forum. I am about ready to wipe the machine and start over to see if maybe my futzing around screwed something up. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I will give access to the URL if anyone that can help.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi, I'm a friend of Scott's.
I tried hitting the URL Scott gave me, and I was consistently succeeding from my Windows workstation using Firefox, while consistently failing (page timed out) on my Linux workstation. I tried both Firefox and Konqueror browsers on Linux. Windows succeeded 100% of the time on 10 attempts - Linux succeeded 0% of the time on even more attempts. Note that I work at a different company that is external to Scott's network.
I don't know anything about OAS - I just thought I'd throw my odd test results into the conversation, to clarify what Scott is talking about.

  • Reports 6i security and Webdb 2.2

Trying to setup WebDB security for Reports Server 6i I have the following problems:

when i start firefox, everything starts normal then my homepage (igoogle) starts to load, gets to about 30% and stops. from there i can click on links or bookmark and a new tab will open but no page will load. i can't get anywhere. then when i close firefox it appears to close normally but when i try to reopen firefox i get a message that firefox is still running but not responding and the only way to shut it down is to reboot. when it first occured i was running beta 6 (since it became available, i also used beta 4 & beta 5) i then uninstalled beta 6 and downloaded and installed ver 5 same problem. i then did a system restore to a time before the problem.. no luck. i'm not sure what to try next. IE & chrome both work fine

I'm in exactly the same boat - dead at blue screen, only option is to salvage using target mode.
I don't currently have access to another Mac to do target mode. I was planning to buy a new Mac this fall anyway, though. 2 questions in preparation for that purchase:
    1) Is there anything I can do before buying a new Mac to make the salvage process more successful? ie, should I spend the time and money going to the genius bar to have them help me get from totally crippled to partially crippled? (As for expertise, I'm a proficient consumer-grade user, but Apple Support walked me through the safe-boot process, etc.)
    2) Is Apple going to provide 10.5 once it is released to people who buy a new Mac in these 6 weeks pre-release?
    Thanks for your help,

  • Firefox will open 4 or 5 tabs fine, but then will not load any further websites after those first 4 or 5, or allow you to refresh one of those first tabs -- including about:config and the addon page

Firefox 5 worked fine. I installed Firefox 7, and when I ran it, tabs would just say "connecting to..." and hang. Restarting did not help. Websites open fine in IE and Chrome. Disabled all firewalls and antivirus, did not help. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 5, everything worked fine again. This was using Vista 64-bit.
Upgraded to Windows 7, uninstalled Firefox 5, installed Firefox 7, had same problem. Uninstalled Firefox 7 completely (including the profile information, I saved that information in another folder), restarted computer, and installed Firefox 7 using a completely clean profile. Did not install any add-ons, checked to make sure all plug-ins were up-to-date, and updated plugins.
Now when I start Firefox, I can load 3 or 4 or 5 tabs fine -- after those first few tabs are open, I cannot open or refresh any other tabs -- including about:config and the add-on manager -- I have to restart Firefox. The hangup doesn't appear to be related to what websites I am attempting to open, but it looks like the number is the problem. I have run through all of the FAQ procedures, including changing the max number of network connections to 48, and the problem does not seem to go away.
As a side note, I had this same problem when I tried to go from version 5 to version 6 as well. Version 5 is the most recent version that worked on my system.

Can you try Aurora - download it from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/
And let us know how it works.

I do not want to go through these steps every time I start my system.
