About opening multiple files at once (in one program instance)

While developing an Image Viewer application i realized i had to give it some functionality for when a user selects multiple images in a directory and presses enter to open them with my app.
Everything is going well except for one tiny detail:
The Windows OS believes i am trying to open several instances of my Image Viewer, it even alerts me that "Choosing to 'Open' 26 items at once may take a long time and cause your computer to respond slowly."
It then hangs for a few seconds before opening my app. And i am talking about only 26 items. If i were to open more, the time it hangs is proportional and for that time the cpu usage is as its maximum (in this case a quad core).
So, do you know about a solution to this? Or at least a workaround?
Ideally, Windows would end up knowing i'm trying to open several files in only one program instance.
ps: i already tried deactivating the code that loads the Images, even with the InvokeEvent Listener doing nothing, Windows takes a lot of time trying to open 26 program instances.

it should work the way she's doing it, unless something is broken in CC
try these other two options
1. select all files and press "Enter", they should all open
2. select all files and press the button "Open" in explorer Toolbar

  • Why can't I get Automator to open multiple files at once?

I'm trying to do something relatively simple with Automator: I want it to open (in Photoshop) all RAW files within a certain folder. Here is what I have:
    1. Get folder contents
    2. Filter Finder items: Name Extension Contains "RAW"
    3. Open Finder items: Open with Adobe Photoshop
When I save this as a Finder plug-in and apply it to a folder, it only opens the first RAW image in PS. It is possible to open multiple RAW images at once in Photoshop, so that's not the problem. Somehow I can't tell get Automator to open ALL the RAW images in the folder, not just the first one. I've tried substituting "Find Finder Items" for "Filter Finder Items" but the result is the same.
What am I missing? A million thanks to anyone who can give me a solution!

If your using PSCS2 I assume you also have Adobe Bridge.
The best I can come up with is a workflow that filters RAW files out of a mixed file folder into their own folder, then opens that folder in Bridge, from where, with a command-a (to select all) and command-o (to open), you get all of your RAW files up in the RAW converter.
    1. Get Specified Finder Items (Make this source folder)
    2. Get folder contents
    3. Filter finder items
    4. New Folder (Target for filtered results)
    5. Open finder items (Open with Bridge)
I've tried adding an Open with Photoshop as a last step and for some reason it bypasses the RAW converter and pops them straight into PS.
IMHO, it's just as easy to use the Adobe Bridge, and open the files you want direct from there.

  • Is there a way to open multiple files at once with the new download manager?

It was possible to do this with the old one by right-clicking and selecting "open", but I haven't been able to find a way to make it work with the new one.

I looked at the download section of the Library dialog, which you can open using either:
    * Show All Downloads
    * Ctrl+j
I couldn't figure out any way to open multiple items in one step. I can select multiple items, but... no way to launch them. Seems you need to double-click or press Enter to open a single selected item, and repeat for each item you want to open.

  • Open Multiple files in One go......

    Hi all,
I need to open multiple file jpg files present at a particular location in one go. I am developing the application in ADF and i used the following code in for loop
    response[i] = (HttpServletResponse) fctx.getExternalContext().getResponse();

    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response[i].setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachement; filename=\"document "+listFiles[i].substring(0,(listFiles[i].length()-4))+".bmp\"");
but it opens only one file(the last one of the for loop). Finally i evn tried Runtime.getruntime again in a for loop, still it didnt work.

  • Preview and Texteditor open multiple files

Preview and Texteditor often open multiple files when I only clicked a single file. It seems to open one or more previously opened files at the same time. Is this a bug, or can I disable this behaviour somewhere?

"Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps" worked for me. However, it will not work for any apps currently open when you change the preference. Once you quit ans recopen the app, it should work. At least mine did!

  • Acrobat Standard 9.0 automatically opens multiple files on startup

This problem was originally posted as "Acrobat Standard 9.1.2 update problem?"
In Vista Ultimate, I installed the Acrobat Standard 9.1.2 update, and afterward, my terminal began automatically opening multiple PDF files whenever Acrobat was started.  At one point, I let it run for several minutes, and got up to 33 opened files before I forced the program to shut down.
Although this problem was resolved by a program removal and reinstallation (restore previous version didn't work), it came back again, after I had worked on several PDF files since the reinstall.  Apparently, Acrobat feels compelled to open all of the PDF files I have worked on since the reinstallation, whenever it starts up.  In addition, it opens copies of all of these files when I open a Website PDF file. So I have two copies of the same filename open at the same time (usually impossible in Windows).  Since I removed v9.1.2 and reinstalled v9.0, the problem might not be connected to the 9.1.2 update I installed before it began; however, the 9.1.2 update might have made changes to the registry that the uninstall didn't correct.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED AUTOMATIC MULTIPLE FILE OPENINGS IN ACROBAT STANDARD 9.0 OR 9.1.2, AND IF SO, WHAT DID YOU DO ABOUT IT?  I'm desperate enough to seek technical advice from a random group of strangers.

I was having this problem on a Vista Ultimate machine after upgrading to Acrobat Pro 9.2, and solved it in the following way.
    1.  Exit Acrobat, open the task manager and be sure the acrobat.exe task is no longer running.
    2.  Open the directory C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0
    3.  Locate the file named Organizer90 and drag it to the desktop
    4.  Open Acrobat from the Start menu
Problem should be solved!  If not, exit Acrobat and drag the original Organizer90 file back to the original directory (replacing the newly created file).  I have no idea what the Organizer90 file does, so I don't know if you may be losing anything important using this method, but it did work for me in solving the "opening multiple files" problem.

  • Unable to open multiple files of different types simultaneously

It seems  the MS has made some changes in Win7, and I am no longer able to open multiple files of different types (.doc, .pdf) in Explorer by highlighting the desired files and hitting Enter.  It still works if I select only one file type, but
the ability to open multiple files of different types has been in place since Win95, and maybe since Win3.11 (my memory is a little foggy that far back).

    Hi,
Yes, this feature was removed from Windows 7. Now you just can open multiple files which are the same type at once.

  • Adobe Standard slow to open two files at once

At work, I must check many PDF files to see if they are exact duplicates. However, I have noticed that when opening two files at once, the second file often takes very long to load. I am therefore wondering if there is any solution to help multiple files load faster.

If you want to work in tabbed view, do it like this:
Select the move tool. Go to the tab that contains one of the image files.
Drag the image over the tab that has the blank document (Keep holding down the mouse button). Wait till that tab opens.
Drag & drop the image into the blank document.

  • How to open multiple files in Labview?

I want to open multiple files in labview by selecting multiple files, then read them? Can I do this in Labview 7.0?

You can use the vi example here to get multiple names:
    http://exchange.ni.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=101&RPAGEID=137&HOID=506500000005000000C7640100&HTHREAD=000091335&UCATEGORY_0=_49_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0
Once you have the file names, you can use a for loop w/ a Read/Open file vi to open all the files.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files

Acrobat Pro 9.3 Crashes when opening multiple files. I have not seen any solutions in forums that solves this problem. I have just done the most recent update and it still crashes.

Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 (CS5) is doing the same thing on my Windows XP SP3 with 3.5 GB of ram and 206 GB of my brand new 300 GB hard drive free.
It starting doing this at the end of last year before my hard drive died.  Then after rebuilding the entire system on this new drive it worked fine, until I downloaded all the updates and now it is broken again.  Anytime I open more than one PDF, Acrobat crashes.  I send the error report every time.

  • HT2470 how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them part of 1 master file

how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them into 1 master file? I want to put all documents associated with this project together for easier access.

From the finder window, click File, click new folder, you can drag all documents into that Folder making it the master folder. You can ajso drag folders into the Master folder, and have them as sub-folders if you wish to  do that. Either way they will all be in one master folder.

  • Opening multiple files in OS X

    Hi there,
Sorry if this is a noob question but I couldn't find the answer online!
Do anyone happen to know if there is a keyboard shortcut to open multiple files in Dreamweaver on OS X... I click on each with Command held to select multiple files, and I know you can double click on one to open them all...
In the Windows version I used to just press Enter to open them and I prefer that, so if there's an OS X equivalent that would be awesome!
    Thanks,
    Neil

No joy I'm afraid... nothing happens with that either...
It would be cool to have a keyboard shortcut as I'm so used to renaming a file then hitting enter to open it!
One of those minor little irritations I guess!
    Thanks

  • Missing photos when opening multiple files into Photoshop from LR3.2

When I try to open multiple files (8+ maybe) from Lightroom 3.2 to edit in Photoshop CS5, almost always one or two photos does not open. This means I have to manually find out which photos are missing, and then reopen them.
Can anyone help me with this problem??

I have opened as many as 50 from external hard drive with LR 3.2 and Windows XP with no problem.
It takes a long time to bring in this many if they are 100MB tiffs.  I had to go have coffee and come back later.
Are you sure you waited until it was finished?

  • Indesign CS5 freezes when opening multiple files

When I try to open multiple files at the same time it will show the files on screen as if they are open but then a popup will come up that says "Open 2 Documents" and it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign. I am unable to cancel the dialog box and have to use ctrl+alt+delete to close the program and then open the files one at a time. When I open the program again it then has the files loaded and ready to go. I am working on Windows 7 Professional and I don't have any Indesign Plugins that I use. Extensis Suitcase font auto-activation is turned off.

    Dear all,
I think I have the same problem... or not ?!
=> When I try to open multiple files at the same time it opens only the 2 or 3 first ones then it freezes on the Spinning Beach Ball of Death !
=> Then it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign.
=> I am unable to cancel the dialog box and have to use cmd+alt+esc to close the program
=> then, the files open directly on indesign when I open the program again (jus as if the files had been loaded and ready to go)
I am working on MAC OS X (10.7.3)
Anybody could help please ?? (sorry for my english... I'm a French native speaker)

  • How can I open multiple files as Photoshop Raw files at the same time for Photoshop CS6 extended on a PC?

I am trying to open 20-25 files at the same time as Photoshop Raw [*.RAW] files.
The only way I can open multiple files is if i leave the file type as All Formats. When I change it to  Photoshop Raw [*.RAW], the files a deselected.

Use bridge. Select all the files then press ctrl-r or cmd-r to load the selected files into camera raw.
If you try this in Photoshop use File>Open As then for file type choose camera raw. (I have not tested open as for opening multiple files)
