  • Do oracle exams expire ???

hi all, please i have a question about oracle exams...
i took the OCP exam (Developer) 1Z0-007 introduction to SQL at 01-02-2007 and i need these days to complete the certificate by taking PL-SQL and Forms exams .. so will my first exam expire at a specific date so i'll have to retake it again or there isn't an expiration date for the exams ??

    Great question.
Some of the criteria for validity of a test score while you are in the midst of certification may be:
    1. A one or two year validity irrespective of whether the same test is offered in the future or not
    2. The test number has not been retired
    3. There are no upgrade exams related to the same test (e.g Oracle 8i test score validity when Oracle 10g test is the one being offered now)
    4. The exam track has not been retired/ discontinued
I think 2 years is a reasonable time for getting certified on all the exams in a track (4-5 exams at the most).
OCP Program team may please clarify with the official response regarding the test score validity.
Best of Luck for the rest of your exams!

  • Errors in 1z0-051 and 1z0-061 Official Oracle exam guides

What can we do about errors in the official Oracle exam guides.
I am doing the 1z0-061 (Oracle Database 12c: SQL Fundamentals).
The 051 and 061 exams are exactly the same.
051 is written by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass and the 061 is written by Ramklass, but the thing is, both books have the same content word for word.
I found these errors in the books:
(1.) In chapter 08 (Using subqueries to solve problems) in both books it says "A subquery can be used to select rows for insertion but not in a VALUES clause of an INSERT statement".
But this is wrong. You CAN use a subquery in a VALUES clause: This will work ->
    INSERT INTO values_test (f1) VALUES ((SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL));
However you have to have the 2 brackets in red.
    (2.)
Chapter 2: Self test question 9
The following character literal expression is selected from the DUAL table: SELECT 'Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring' FROM DUAL; (Choose the result that is returned.)
    A.  An error would be returned due to the presence of two adjacent quotes
    B.  Coda's favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    C.  Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    D.  Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring'
The books says the correct answer is B. But this is wrong.
Correct answer is C, since the "" are 2 double quotes and they will appear as it is.
Even if "", is actually 4 single quotes the output then will be Coda''s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    which has 2 single quotes.
I wrote to the author  (emai [email protected]) but got no reply.
How can we let Oracle certification know that there are errors in these books. This can affect the exam and can mean the difference between passing and failing.

    >The book cover says "Oracle Press", meaning Official Oracle.
No -- the name does not mean that.  'Oracle Press' is a division of the McGraw-Hill publishing company that specializes in writing books for the Oracle suite of products.  Oracle has close ties with the publisher and often supplies information to the authors that is not publicly available.  However, Oracle is not responsible for the content of the books.
    >If not, then what ARE the Official Oracle guides?
The only thing that you could call an 'Official' Oracle guide would be student guides developed by Oracle University for one of their courses.  This content is supplied to attendees of the courses. The material is copyrighted and should not be available on the Web.

  • What is the new Oracle exame that just showed up on Pearson vue today called - Exam:1Z1-006: Oracle Database Foundations?

    Hi,
I just saw a new beta exam show up today (Thursday, April 23th) on Pearson Vue called
    1z1-006 Oracle Database Foundations?
Is this an OCA, OCP, OCE, or OCS?
    Is this exam for teaching?
    Is this exam for design.
    Help me
    Roger

I guess exam content is speculation (unless insider knowledge is available ... in which case an NDA would be in force) until Oracle publishes some information, and perhaps until we can see the exam topics.
In essence Pearson Vue knows nothing about how exams link to form certifications, however it's website  can sometimes get exam scheduling updates a little before they arrive on the oracle website.
Any information from Oracle is likely to appear here: New and Upcoming Releases
... or if/when this link becomes active: Exam 1Z0-106 (NB: wrong link ... Matthew has a good link above)
.... And I guess an Oracle Certification blog entry too will be likely.
.... Various people have on this forum commented on the downsides of 1z0-051/1z0-061 as an entry point into Oracle RDBMS Database with 'SQL' rather than 'RDBMS' being the focus point.  ( IMHO These exams do a good job of examining Oracle SQL .... ).
If non database (Oracle Enterprise) specific if would also be applicable to MySQL, RDB, .... etc).
It will be interesting to see how and where Oracle views where this exam will sit, who its target candidates are and what certification(s) it will participate in ..... I Codd you not  !
Added 03may2015: Realised some glaring deficiencies in this post by getting the code mixed up between 1z0-106/1z0-006 .... any that Matthew had gvien the correct link earlier!  I have only just pulled my head out of the bucket.

  • About passing Exams

Hi there guys iam planning to do OCP 11g. Whats the best method to clear exams?
My friend told me that exam is tough and i cant pass it without the help of dumps.
Tell me guys should I go with dumps?
    Thanks.

And I think the Certification authorities distribute their exams to the Dumps sites to make money out of it, that is why they are so accurate. I'm answering this one first because the answer has relevance to the first question in your post. Creating a website to sell something (like certification study material) is very easy. By contrast, creating certification study material is hard (I know this firsthand. I write Oracle study guides). Getting the questions and answers out of proctored testing centers isn't simple, but it could be done more easily by individuals who are ignorant of Oracle than creating the information from scratch. My assumption on the large number of companies creating dumps is that they are operations run by a very small number of unscrupulous people (possibly just a single person) who obtain the material illegally and then rapidly turn it into a Q&A to sell to test seekers. In researching my study guides, I sometimes run over snippets from dumps. They are invariably riddled with content errors that indicate the person who wrote them knows nothing of Oracle. Some seekers buy them without being aware that the content is prohibited, and others simply don't care.
Can you tell me why dumps available freely on the internet? The people who buy dumps from the above companies knowing they are prohibited are cheating and they know that they are buying what is essentially stolen goods. That said, many will have no qualms about making the material they just bought available to others for free. People who get his material freely from one source will likewise re-post it in new locations or email it to individuals who request it.
Why Certification authorities do not do something about it? They do. Oracle has an OCP fraud department. The people who actually make the dumps tend to be in foreign countries, which makes prosecution of copyright theft somewhere between difficult and impossible. However, they can (and will) revoke the certification from individuals who they determine to have used dumps to pass exams.
Every other person is becoming certified in networking, Oracle etc. If someone do not use dumps he is at loss with money prospective not learning prospective between.Saying that 'Everyone cheats, so it is OK if I cheat too' is untrue on both counts. I have taken a couple dozen certification tests and have never used a dump on any of them. Also, passing a test for which you had prior access to the questions and answers doesn't demonstrate anything. It is also extremely unlikely to get you hired. I am, and have been, in positions to hire Oracle professionals. I do not glance at a resume, see 'OCP' on it, and hire them. If I call someone in for an interview that has an OCP, and my questioning of them indicates that they don't have sufficient knowledge to have passed the exam, I will cut the interview short and shred their resume. Studying for the exam is more valuable than having the certification. You need to know the information to be able to do the work. You don't need to have the certification.
And moreover the institute that my friend studied in had no credible teacher they told him that you cannot pass the test without dumps and there level of teaching was very low.He should have demanded a refund.
So the option to pass is to use dumps . Well one can pass the test with dumps and then can study with no worriesWell, the saying goes that 'Ignorance is Bliss'. Using dumps to pass the exams will indeed mask ignorance so you could claim it reduces worries. However, it might be a little worrying when you get an email from ocpfraud indicating that you have been banned from obtaining Oracle certifications for using dumps. Alternately, you might get a little worried when no employer takes you seriously when you are searching for a job because your ignorance about Oracle is obvious minutes into any interview you go to. Even if you manage to fool the interviewer and get hired as a DBA, you might get a little worried when you start your new job as a DBA and realize that you have absolutely no idea how to do your job.
Just about any decent Oracle DBA can pass these exams with a reasonable amount of study using either the Oracle documentation or valid third-party study materials. By inference, someone who cannot pass the test by studying using these materials probably wouldn't make a good DBA.

  • Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database

Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database
    please give the comments

Well, the question is almost philosophic...<br>
In 9i, there is a Migration Guide whereas in 10g there is a Upgrade Guide.<br>
Furthermore, in 9i, there is the command line startup migrate whereas in 10g that's startup upgrade.
Somebody think upgrade when go to new release, and migration when go to new version.<br>
Others think upgrade when new version replace database in place, and migration when new version include a move of database.<br>
Another point of view is : upgrade is for technical, and migration for application/data.<br>
    <br>
Well, after these explanations, your upgrade/migratation notion will not be more clear, but I think that is not very important, only a terminology game. The most important is to know what you need : new version or new release.<br>

The best forum for this is probably Forum Home » Java » SQLJ/JDBC
Presumably you are refering to oracle.sql.TIMESTAMP. While this is intended to (and does) correspond to java.sql.Timestamp it can't be a subclass because it needs to be a subclass of oracle.sql.Datum.

  • Can we have everything about Oracle in one drive?

    Hello, everybody,
We got a backup database server. Since it is just for backup, we don't want to spend too much $ on this one.
My question is: can we have everything about Oracle installled in the same drive?
It means that Archive, Redo Logs, Oracle system itself, the data, etc will be loaded into one single drive.
    Is that OK?
Any input will be highly appreciated?
    thx.

It means that Archive, Redo Logs, Oracle system itself, the data, etc will be loaded into one single drive. Here's a piece of advice though, partition it to look like your prod server... it will make life much easier when moving datafiles.

  • Please suggest me the best way to start learning about Oracle Purchasing.

    Hi,
I have started reading about Oracle Procurement. I have an over all idea of how ERP functions. Anyhow I am like a fresher to ORACLE APPS. Can you pleasesuggest me what is the best way to start learning about Oracle Purchasing.
Is it is throuhg user guides or some thing else..... can you please specify the references also.......
    Thank you so much.

If you have a sponsorship, I would recommend taking classes with Oracle University. The other resources are documentation, functional and technical depending on what your interests are.
If you can load Vision database or access vision database (I think solutionbeacon offers a free account to login and play around), that will be another resource as well.
As you learn, join as much user groups like this one, and review all questions and answers in the discussions to understand and learn more.
    Hope this helps.
