About Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway

Hi All,
I am very new at this topic, I want to know:
1)Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway same or not?Need license or not?
2)If want Creating Database Link from Oracle 11g to Sybase AS 15.5 Using Oracle Heterogeneous Services what drivers should I install from my pc(windows 7) and from my server(Linux red hat 5)?please give me link for this
3)Is there any link Step by step to configure odbc until creating dblink?
4)what more convenient, connect sybase from Oracle Heterogeneous Services or Oracle Gateway?
Thank you so much for your help
Regards
JOE

Joe,
let copy/paste your questions and comment inline:
1)Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway same or not?Need license or not?
Let me first clarify one thing, heterogeneous services is the generic mechanism in the Oracle database used by all gateways. The product you are talking about is the Database Gateway for ODBC or the Database Gateway for Sybase.
The Database Gateway for ODBC is available for Linux and Windows. It is the free product which does not require an Oracle license. The license is included in your database license. It is a generic gateway which allows you to connect with any suitable 3rd party ODBC driver to a matching foreign database. As it is a generic connectivity which aloows you to connect to real databases but also to MS Excel or even Text files as long as you have a suitable ODBC driver, its capability is very limited.
The more powerful gateway is the Database Gateway for Sybase. It covers the same functionality as DG4ODBC but it allows you also to work with distributed transactions, it allows you to call remote Sybase stored procedures etc. This gateway is design for Sybase ASE connections, so it is also able to map certain Oracle functions to Sybase equivalents. This Database Gateway for Sybase is NOT for free, it requires an additional license.
2)If want Creating Database Link from Oracle 11g to Sybase AS 15.5 Using Oracle Heterogeneous Services what drivers should I install from my pc(windows 7) and from my server(Linux red hat 5)?please give me link for this
That depends on your preferences. Both gateways are available for Linux and for Windows. When using DG4ODBC you only need to pay attention that you get a suitable 3rd party ODBC driver for this platform with the matching word size (64bit for 64bit DG4ODBC and 32bit ODBC driver for installations of DG4ODBC on 32bit platforms).
The latest software release is currently 11.2.0.3 and it can be downloaded (and installed from scratch) from "My Oracle Support". Just open the Patches & Updates section, look for Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER and make sure to choose the platform you want to use. Then check out the readme as it lists which of these download CD's contains the gateway software.
BTW, the CD contains DG4ODBC and DG4SYBS and it is up to you to decide during the installation which product you want to use.
3)Is there any link Step by step to configure odbc until creating dblink?
The ODBC driver installation differs from vendor to vendor and platform to platform - so we don't have a specific note how to configure the ODBC driver. This kind of question is better handled by the ODBC driver vendor.
Regarding the set up of DG4ODBC on Windows you find suitable information in the knowledge base on My Oracle Support. Just look for:
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install          [Document 466225.1]
and for DG4SYBS:
How to Configure DG4SYBS (Oracle Database Gateway for Sybase) on 64bit Unix (Linux, AIX, HP-UX Itanium and Solaris) Post Install          [Document 437696.1]
How to Setup DG4SYBS (Database Gateway for Sybase) on a 64bit Windows          [Document 1319852.1]
4)what more convenient, connect sybase from Oracle Heterogeneous Services or Oracle Gateway?
It really depends on your needs. DG4SYBS is surly easier to install as this gateway comes with everything you need and you do not have to find a suitable ODBC driver nor get the ODBC driver working. It is also more powerful as you can for example use triggers that replicate data changes in an Oracle database to the Sybase database within the same transaction. When you want to call Sybase stored procedures you can also do that with DG4SYBS. So it really depends on your needs.

    Hi all!
I want to access and query an excel file's data stored in my system in SQL PLUS using oracle Heterogenous Services. I am using 11g database
    I done
    1. registering odbc DSN name as: cars Driver: Microsoft Excel Driver
    2. modified "initdg4odbc.ora" file with following parameters:
    # This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
    # needed for the Database Gateway for ODBC
    # HS init parameters
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = cars
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
    HS_FDS_TRACE_FILE_NAME = hsmsql.trc
    # Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
    #set <envvar>=<value>
    3. modified tnsnames.ora as

  • Date Formats in Oracle Applications Forms and Oracle Self Service

Can someone tell me what determines the Date format that appears on Oracle Applications Forms and Oracle Self Service ?
*1.* In Oracle HRMS,all dates i see on the Forms are of the Format "MM/DD/YYYY" but my NLS Parameters are not in this format .I'm giving the results for the NLS parameters below.I thought the date formats are determined by the NLS format. Is there something else that determines the date format appearing on Oracle Applications Forms ?
    NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT     :DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     :AMERICAN
    NLS_LANGUAGE     :AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY     :AMERICA
    NLS_INSTANCE_PARAMETERS
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT     :DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     :
    NLS_LANGUAGE     :american
    NLS_TERRITORY     :america
    NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT     :DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     :
    NLS_LANGUAGE     :american
    NLS_TERRITORY     :america
*2* What about the profile option : ICX_DATE_FORMAT_MASK ? Does it determine the Date Format for Self Service alone or does it impact the date format appearing on Oracle Applications Forms and the actual database also ?
*3* If I use a to_date function in ,say, a pl/sql function that i code for some custom requirements, what will be the output of the date format ? Does it take the format given in NLS paramaters or is it determined by anything else?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply ,but I'm still confused ..
Here are the profile options I'm seeing for one of my instance :
ICX: Date format mask - 12/31/1999
ICX: Date language - American English
    ICX: Language - American English
    ICX: NLS Sort - BINARY
    ICX: Territory - United States
    ICX: Numeric characters - NULL
NLS parameters are given in my original email.
In Self Service applications(OAF) ,the date format is appearing in "mm/dd/yyyy" format but when i login to Forms based applications ,I see the date format as "dd-mon-yyyy".What determines this date format ?
How can i make the date format to always return one format everywhere ,be it Self Service (OAF) or Oracle Forms ?
I'm getting date format related errors for my code because of default date formats changing intermittently when i log into Self Service.I want to know if there is anyway to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using Oracle Heterogenous services to access sql server database table

I have created a dblink 'POC_HS' from oracle to sql (implemented heterogeneous services) and I am able to successfully pull out data from the default database that the DSN(for sql server) is connected to.
So this 'select * from Test@POC_HS' is working perfectly fine on the Oracle database as 'Test' table resides in the default database (which the System DSN is connected to).
But when I do 'select * Abc.Test@POC_HS' where Test table resides in 'ABC' database which is not the default database throws an error as follows:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist [Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'Abc.Test'.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared. (SQL State: S0002; SQL Code: 208)
I have also tried this 'select * from Abc.dbo.Test@POC_HS' but oracle throws this exception "ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended".
The dblink user and System DSN account has access to the 'Abc' database.
    Thoughts?

    Thanks for the info.
But suppose if we have DB link 'POC_HS' where POC_HS is a DBlink between oracle servers, I can do the following -
    1. select * Abc.Test@POC_HS
    2. select * Def.Test@POC_HS
where Abc,Def are the schemas which the Dblink user has access to. I can execute the above perfectly fine.
I wanted the achieve the same functionality from Oracle to Sql where database keep on changing dynamically . So according to you that's not possible right?
We will have to keep on changing the ODBC connection to a different database or create a new odbc/listener/tnsentry each time query uses a different database right?

  • Oracle heterogeneous services in 10g r2

The dba configured oracle heterogeneous services to connect to a SQL Server database.
The purpose of doing this is to select from a view in SQL Server.
We are able to select. But as soon as a where clause is introduced, the session just hangs.
So we thought it might be because we are accessing a view.
We then created a table in SQL Server and inserted all the data into the table. However, the select with a where clause does not work.
We then created a table in Oracle and selected from the view in SQL Server to insert data into the oracle table . Once the data is in an Oracle table, we are able to select and use a where clause. We do not want to bring data into Oracle as the data architect is trying to avoid a duplication scenario.
The DBA is not able to find what is wrong. Can someone please help. Have you seen a similar issue?
The oracle version is 10.2.0.4 and sql server is 2000.
    Thanks,
    ksd

If the application is using sequences, it cannot require that values are not skipped. Oracle sequences will never be gap-free. And assuming that there are multiple users, the order of transactions and the order of sequence generated values cannot be guaranteed.
I suppose that if your failover process was manual and scheduled and the downtime window was sufficient (i.e. you're failing over because you're taking one server down for scheduled maintenance, not because there was an unexpected fault), you could set up a script that would shut down the application, iterate over the sequences on the master getting the next value, alter the local sequences (presumably by altering the increment, selecting the next value from the local sequences, and returning the increment to 1), and then allow the application to start on the new server. If your downtime window is sufficient, when the primary has an unscheduled failure, you could potentially do a SELECT MAX(primary key) on each table on the local system (while the application is down), alter the sequences and then allow the application to start running. Neither is a particularly pretty option, and the latter option can be quite expensive if there is a lot of data.

  • API Doc for oracle.forms.ui and oracle.ewt available (Forms 9.0 PJC)?

    Hi there,
where can I get the Java Docs for the oracle.forms.ui and oracle.ewt Packages for implementing Forms 9.0 PJC?
Where can I get more docu about building PJCs? Found already some samples and
    Thanks, Markus

At this time, the JavaDoc for these classes is not available.
As a general rule you will find that the Methods and properties of the underlying oracle.ewt.* classes closely mirror the equivilent java.awt.* classes, so you should be able to gain a bit more information that way.
And yes setDropDownVisible does pop the combo list down, but it's a protected method which might be why you're having problems with it?

  • Diff Between Oracle BPM Studio and Oracle BPEL Process Manager

1)What is the difference between Oracle BPM Studio and Oracle BPEL Process Manager?
2)What is the connection between Oracle BPM Studio and Oracle BPEL Process Manager?

    Hi,
As of today you should install SOA Suite 11g
Fr this you will need to install Database (for development you can use XE)
Run RCU utility to crete DB schemas for SOA Suite.
    Install Weblogic server
Install SOA Suite as an option to Weblogic
    Create SOA Domain.
It is physically possible to do it in 2GB but is far better on 3 - 4GB
You can consider installing DB on different machine.
