About Plug ins....

I desperately need your help here.
I've oredered a comcast internet modem, and tried to install the program.
However, whenever I inserted a cd-rom, the message below poped up.
The page “Welcome to Comcast High-Speed Internet!” has content of MIME type “application/smartaccess-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
What am I supposed to do?

I suggest you contact Comcast technical support people. I suspect they can quickly guide you in the steps you need to take to install the hardware. I had a similar problem with a DSL router and found the communications company (AT&T) was very good in providing help.

ACR 4 installed in three places but does not show in "About Plug-ins"

1st gen MacBookPro / OSX 10.4.10 / 2 gigs of mem / 20+ gigs free disk
Installed the plugin in ... CS/File formats/ , the PE 4.0 plugin folder and the Bridge plugin folder.
But nothing works. The DNG converter works just fine. But DNG files are not read either.
I still have PE 3.0 installed. No RAW plugin installed there.
What needs to be changed to make the ACR 4.02 plugin work with my brand new, arrived today, Photoshop Elements 4?

Jim,
Adobe has several different instructions online! Very confusing. A key point is that you MUST have upgraded to Elements 4.01. This should be made much more explicit. If this is not done, it makes no difference how or where you install the plugin.
Once the upgrade is installed, placing the plugin in ONLY the CS folder in the root directory, not the user's directory, works exactly as one of the Adobe instructions reports.
I have now removed the plugin in from both Elements 4.01 and Bridge and have ONLY one copy in the CS folder. This works great.
Now if only digital cameras had better dynamic range -- esp. my old Oly E20.

Extensions grayed out and can't access plug-ins

I've used the water mark plug-in before and it worked just fine but now when I go to window>extensions, the "extensions" are grayed out.
Macbook pro 17" with OS X 10.6.4.
Photoshop 12.01, mode RGB, 8-bit/channel.
Watermark 2.0.6. (2.0.5 didn't show up so I loaded the newer version before I noticed extension were grayed out)
The plug-ins are listed under "about plug-ins"
I use Font Agent Pro4.140 and installed the plug-in for Photoshop.
Extensions manager shows Watermar installed.
There is no Extensions Manager under "Help" in Photoshop.
I have no idea what to do to get to my plug-ins.

It took me all day to fix this problem but right now the extensions are visible again.
Deleting Photoshop preferences didn't fix it.
Uninstalling Photoshop and then re-installing didn't work.
So I uninstalled the complete CS5 suite and hope that I got rid of everything before reinstalling the whole suite. I applied updates, installed plug-ins and it now works. What a pain. I am not very happy. I've never had to do this before and I would really like to know what turned the extension off so I don't have to go through this again. Now I am ready to personalize my short cut keys, etc.

How can I check Plug-Ins?

how can I check if my QuickTime Plug-Ins are still current? In most browsers there is an option "About Plug-Ins" which lists all installed Plug-Ins. Is something similar available for QuickTime?

There should show two sets of QuickTime plug-ins (7.1.3 and 7.1.5).
7.1.3 is the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
7.1.5 is the QuickTime Plugin.plugin.
The "webplugin" is used by Dashboard Widgets (just special html code). It is listed as version 7.1.3 in error as the Finder Get Info window reveals it to be 7.1.5. The error (wrong version number) could be caused by Safari but that is just a guess.

Lightroom 2.5 and Plug-Ins

I am totally lost about plug-ins with Light Room (on a Vista 64 bit machine). I found an interesting one that is supposed to let me e-mail directly from Lightroom using my gmail account. I downloaded it and installed it using the Plug-In Manager. The manager said that all was well so I tried to use it BUT I can't find it. I exported my picture for e-mail (and that works) but it didn't seem to be using my gmail account. The mail did go and the attached photo was fine. Shouldn't I have some sort of plug-in list in Lightroom that I can access? Sorry, as I said, I'm lost.

Ahhh, I made it too complicated. When I went back to the plug-in manager and checked it said that it was sucessfully installed so I exported for e-mail and discovered it AUTOMATICALLY used my gmail account. Thanks for the help and sorry for the confusion!

Why does Firefox open 3 Tabs all the time when I open it? One is my home page but the other 2 are about plug in being installed. How do I make that stop?

And every time I open Firefox, it opens with 3 Tabs, one of which IS Yahoo but the other 2 a regarding plug ins being successfully updated. I've even gone as far as to uninstall those plug ins and it still opens with 3. About ready to uninstall Firefox and stay with IE

Video Transitions & Plug-ins: Recommendations

I'm new to Final Cut Pro, having used a hardware-driven dpsVelocity system for about six years. Overall, i'm enjoying using FCP.
However, one thing that surprises me about FCP is having a list of transitions, instead of seeing a graphic representation of the tranistion effect. I know it may seem like a less pro approach, but the graphic view of the tranistion did help me quickly pick out the one I needed. Is there a view setting I'm not using?
Also, I've been reading about plug-ins and thinking I need some. Again, with the depVelocity sytem, it came with lots of pre-configured transitions--for example, four page turn (one from each side), at least six page slides, etc. It looks like with FCP, I need to create each one of these options...so maybe that's where the plug-ins come in.
I would greatly appreciate some user recommendations for plug-in packages, both 2-D and 3-D transitons.

If you double-click a transition, it will pop up in your window and you can see a little more detail about it.
As far as plugins... i'm a big fan of the Nattress ones. Great pay bundle.
Some free plugin sets are Eureka and Too Much Too Soon.

No audio plug ins?

I'm Googling, but I can't seem to find anything about plug ins for audio in FCPX. Do they not exist? Like if I want to add echo, or make a voice sound like it's coming out of a telephone. That kind of stuff. I think this was available for FCP 7.

Safari just shuts down suddenly due to some problems related to plug-ins.

I use safari version 4.02.
Sometimes (very often actually) it just shuts down suddenly due to some problems related to plug-ins and gives error and I relaunch . Do you have any idea why it is happening?

Plug-ins and Virtual Instruments

Can someone explain to me a little bit about plug-ins and virtual instruments. Namely ones that are compatible with logic express 8. I see the ads for them all the time but don't know much about them. What's good... What's bad... Can I use them in LE8. I was looking at SyntAX. How user friendly are they or should I stick with what I know... Namely Midi Instruments and Loops?
syntAX says it's compatible with Logic... Does that mean it's also compatible with LE8? I'd like to get some feedback before I shell out $199 for the plug-in.

It states it's compatible with logic but doesn't actually state .AU ready. Will I need a wrapper of some sort to use this plug-in? The only plug-ins I really use in LE8 at this point are ESX24 and the FX. I have tons of apple loops but never really looked into using VIs in Logic. I tried using a few that come with LE8 (namely AMGs One) but it doesn't work properly as it can't find certain files.
Any one with advice on some good Logic compatible plugins?

I have created my own Adobe plug-in (.api file), placed it in the plug-ins folder and it's loading and working as expected :-)
However, when I launch Acrobat and navigate to Help > ''About Adobe Plug-Ins", my plug-in is not listed.
Is it possible to have my plug-in listed in the 'About Adobe Plug-Ins' dialog box? Or is this reserved for Adobe certified plug-ins only?

You would be listed in the "About 3rd party plugins" section IF you added an about item from your plugin.

Adding menu entry to "About Third Party Plug-Ins..."

I am trying to find the language-independent identifier for the "About Third Party Plug-Ins..." menu in the Help menu but I can't seem to find it. Can someone help me find the identifier so that I can add my plug-in's about menu item entry to it? Use the Plugin Wizard to create it for you...
However, I see a MAJOR PROBLEM with the code that you posted.
You are using Adobe's developer extension ("ABDE:S4IXPAPExpressAnnotate") and NOT your own. You need to register your own extension and use that for your plugin(s).

About OpenGL and Waves Plug-ins GUI

I'm using 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011 version) and i want to ask some questions about my problem. I'm a producer / sound engineer and i'm using Cubase 4. I installed Waves Complete Bundle Plug-ins. Plug-ins installed successfully but when i opened the plug-in, it works without GUI. I read lots of forums and people says "it can be OpenGL problem". My first question is Intel HD Graphics 3000 supports OpenGL? If it supports how can i solve this problem. I need suggestions about that.

I know virtually nothing about how to manage/update plug-ins, I have several that say 'research' But when I research, it's so complicated I just don't understand what to do next, Help....

Firefox may pick up plugins that actually are not important to you, because Firefox picks them up from the Windows registry where external programs can freely list them. So... if you discover plugins with no known value, you might consider disabling them here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
That probably will reduce your research burden.
Generally speaking, if a plugin is associated with another program, then you can keep the plugin up-to-date by updating that program. Adobe Reader and iTunes would be examples of that.

In addition.. Focusrite have stated they will not be releasing a 64bit version of Liquid Mix as they consider it outdated software these days.... even though at one point a limited release beta version had a 64bit AU version included but it was so unstable it was rapidly dropped...
However the 32bit to 64bit bridge plugin 32 Lives, states it will handle and 'convert' the Stereo version of Liquid Mix to 64bit but not the Mono version... within LPX

Finally, like others here, I would be extremely surprised if Apple added 32bit AU support back into LPX.. That '32bit tech' is long dead and gone....in terms of modern DAWs... as it is in other DAWs such as the recent PT versions...
