About power supply of xserve raid?

hi, i am having a problem with regards to the power supply of xsan, as a redundancy, is it possible to have a new one to replaced the old power supply?how can i get a new one?

Jajaja, I've done something similar, I build my own ps/2 to ps/2 wire with a utp 8 wires wire.
For the power supply i took another option, directly to the pc power supply . It's sounds crazy but it works great.
It's supposed that you ned 2 v AC (5 Amp and 400mA or something similar, :P), but i've read on the net that most of the equipments that ask for AC voltage have inside a "rectifier" (don't know how to translate from spanish, :P) that take the AC signal into DC. I've also read that there's no problem using 2V DC because if the signal in the input of the "rectifier" is the DC it only lets the signal pass trough. I've check by myself and it works great, .
I've now it connected to a separated power supply from my pc, only for safety (I don't want to take risk for using this kind of equipment in my main power supply).
I hope that if there's another person with the same problem than us read this, :P.

  • Odd power supply fault callhome emails on Cisco 2232 FEXs?

We recently enabled smtp callhome for our ucs pod a few days ago. Since then, we've received more than a dozen email bursts about power supply failures in each of the four Cisco Nexus 2232TP FEXs in our pod. In each case, we get a "Recovered" email within a minute or two, and we're not seeing power supply failure emails for any other devices within the UCS pod.

If we were seeing this from just one fex, I'd suspect a hardware issue. If any of the other UCS devices (rackmount/blade servers, fabric interconnects, etc) reported similar issues, I'd suspect a power feed problem within the DC.
But this has me baffled. If it helps, the UCS pod is running firmware 2.0.3c

The above is resolved in recent version of Nexus 5K switch software. New defect to port the fix to UCSM has been submitted today

It will take a while to get published on web site.
Even though they are cosmetic, I would suggest you open a TAC SR with UCSM, FEX tech support and above bug IDs so that we can track the resolution.

  • Dead power supply fan

The power supply fan on my 2002 Quicksilver Dual 1gig G4 just quit and I am obviously concerned about the ramifications. I've read a few posts in different places about fan replacements but not sure I am up to that. Does anyone have any advice / cautions about power supply replacement?
Unfortunately this is my only computer and I can't really afford the downtime if I take it somewhere. I have reasonable confidence in my ability to do the work (I've added hard drives, replaced the cd drive, ram etc.). Any tips and especially a lead on a good (inexpensive) hardware source would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John
    2002 Quicksilver dual 1g G4

You'll need to remove the power supply from the computer and open it up to access the fan. Installing the new fan may involve splicing its leads to the existing ones attached to the circuit board. Beyond the fan's physical size, you need to match its voltage rating and output (measured in CFM), so that you buy a suitable replacement. The fan's noise level (dBA) should also be considered, so compare the specs on that. According to the info on this page, the fan's specs are:
Protechnic 80x80x25mm MAGIC (made by Sechang Micro)
    12 Volt, 0.24 Amp
    38.27 CFM, 3000 RPM (max), 29 dBA

  • K8n neo4 & power supply: doubt

    Hi,
i' m building my new system with msi neo4 platinum and a Tagan TG480-U01 PSU.
i' have a terrible doubt about power supply connectors to plug in. My tagan gives me:
1- an ATX 20 pin connector + an atx 4 pin connector (i can join them togheter to obtain a 24 pin connector)
2- two 4 pin connectors (i can join them togheter to obtain an 8 pin connector), and one of them fit into the JPW1 plug on the mobo.
My question is: which connectors i have to plug?
Actually i plugged the entire 24 pin connector and the 4 pin that fit into JPW1 (PSU manual refers to this conn. as "12V/P4 ATX/BTX 4-pin" and to the entire 8 pin as "EPS12V 8-pin").
I' ll not switch the power on on my new system if not sure about that question, so please help me!
    Thanks.
P.S. sorry for my bad english.

From viewing all the connection possibilities here---> http://www.water-cooling.com/reviews/tagan/1.php  Your Tagan TG480-U01 comes with a native 24-pin EPS-12V connector, so that goes to the motherboard.  You then plug in the square 4-pin AUX12V connector for the cpu power and you are in business.

  • I keep getting an alarm on my xserve telling me power supply has failed

Raid admin shows an event that power supply 2 has failed and the audible alarm goes off on the server but the the components section in raid admin shows all ok.
also the power supplys both seem to be running ok when I look at them visually.
is this a bug or should I replace the power supply?

Can you clarify what Mac and Mac OS you really have? Facetime was introduced in 2010, four years after PowerMacs were discontinued. And "iOS" is not an computer OS.
Doing "About this Mac" will show your processor type and OSX version. That should help us figure out if you need to be moved to a different forum.

  • Since Apple's Xserve has only one power supply...

Has anyone used this APC device with Apple's Xserves?
    http://apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=14
I like to find a way to spread my Xserve's power across 2 circuits for redundancy. Obviously this doesnt help things if I my Xserve's power supply dies (I have a parts kit with a cold spare), but it would be nice to have for other power issues (circuit pops, etc)
I sure hope Apples next gen Xserve provides a few more features like:
    2 power supplies
Dedicated network managment interface (a 3rd NIC dedicated to management)
Internal hardware RAID onboard (no slot required)
Internal Onboard video (no slot required)

The APC redundant power switch is completely agnostic as far as what's attached to it (as long as you don't exceed its amperage rating). It'll work just fine with your XServe.
As for the other features - there are very few vendors putting dual power supplies in a 1U case. It happens, but isn't common. I'd eschew a third/management NIC for a proper serial console port, although either would be welcome. Off-hand I can't think of a single vendor who offers RAID 5 out-of-the -box without an additional card of some sort (of course, a dedicated slot rather than a PCI slot would suffice), and I don't miss the video card other than when troubleshooting boot issues which thankfully aren't that common.

  • Solution for monitor power supply and raid 5 on x4150 server

    Hi everybody,
    a simple question :
my compagny have some server SunFire x4150 in some Datacenter, and there is a thing that we cannot really monitored remotly : the status of the 2 power supply and the status of the raid 5 of the server.
(i want to know if a power is down or if a disk is "dead")
We are using Nagios, cacti and munin actually, so can we use these interfaces for that?
if the answer is no, a script can be developed , if only i knew the command that can be used to take informations from the state of the raid5, i'll comunicate later the type of the raid card.
what are the best solutions availables for monitor those things?
    thanks by advance

We have some x4150s but they're running Linux. There are separate solutions for each of the 2 problems.
    1. For the power supplies, you can use the ELOM/ILOM system management interface (also used for monitoring the fans and temperature). If you've got it configured and connected to the network, you can set it up to email you about any events. We have the older ELOM firmware running, which includes the ability to add some actions to take in response to specific events. The new and supposedly better ILOM firmware doesn't seem to include this. Since this is IPMI compatible you can probably also hook into this using ipmitool or SNMP tools.
    2. For the RAID card, assuming it's the standard Adaptec (rebranded as StorageTek) controller, you can install and use StorMan software (it's on the tools & drivers CD if not pre-installed). Once again you can configure email notification from the StorMan GUI, but this time it relies on OS host services to do the mail forwarding via the host NIC.
I'm not familiar with the details of your network system admin tools, but hopefully these tips will provide pointers on what hooks are available for these tools to tie into. Presumably there's also Sun N1 management software which can probably do this in a more built-in way, but it sounds like you've already got more than enough management tools.

  • Xserve RAID NO Power, need help please

    HI all,
i have Xserve RAID, last night i shut down it normally, today i came to switch on, but its not responding, i can see only the Green LED on the power supply is blinking. NO POWER.
please if you can help ASAP.
    thanks

    hi
    thanks for your reply,
i have tried to do everything, i removed one of the power supplies at each time, but same. i pressed the power button on the back, but nothing happened.
finally i opened the case of the XSR, i was surprised to find that the power cable between the power button on the back and the main board is disconnected, how i don't know, i never open it before, i vever move it, i don't know it was just disconnected.
any way, its working now, thanks all

  • Xserve raid shows power state UPS backup

How do I change the power state from UPS backup to on like the rest of the xserve raids we have? None of the xserve raids we have ever used a UPS so I do not know why this one is showing power state UPS Backup under the information tab of the GUI.
This is annoying since it's causing the circle to be yellow instead of green. Any ideas or suggestions?

Never seen this. Does it help if you temporally disconnect the power cable?

  • Intel Xserve Blower for Power Supply 1 Out drops to 0 RPM momentarily

10.5.6 Server. Machine is less than a year old. Yesterday I configured Server Monitor for the first time and have received two notifications of the blower for the Power Supply Out changing to zero RPM. It is momentary and goes back to normal.
Everything else is in the normal range -- temp, voltage.
Is this normal or indication of future failure?

    Hi Forum folks.
I've had a 6-month (ish) Xserve doing the same thing. Every day, at least once a day, I'd get an email / SMS, saying the power supply or blower was having a momentary problem.
After shutting down the server, I pulled out the Power Supply Units, and checked them out.
Turns out, one of them had a slightly damaged heat sink (damage visible without opening the PSU). So, I swapped it for a spare I'd purchased. And then got the damaged unit (damaged internally at factory by the look of it) replaced by my Apple Reseller.
Note: the newer Intel XServes (early 2008) have a 750w PSU, compared to a 650w PSU, in the 2006 Intel XServes. The older PSUs fit in the newer Xserves, but they DO NOT function. (You'll get an error in Server monitor).
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers,
    Derek

XServe Power Supplies are readily available, either through Apple support or from a variety of third parties:
You don't mention which XServe model you have, which may change things, but these might be good starting points:

  • Xserve G5 power supply ? problem

Well I bought a dead G5 Xserve on eBay (yeah, I know). followed the "system completely dead…" check in the Xserve repair PDF. Battery was dead, replaced that and reset PMU, nothing. Checked for voltage across the power supply pins. The only reasonable way I could find to do this with the power supply installed was to remove the bracket that holds the retaining thumbscrew, this exposes the solder joints for the pins on top of the connector. Checked for voltage across pins 1 and 8 and came up with zero. Bought a used "working" power supply on eBay and installed that along with a new battery, reset the PMU, checked for voltage at my power cord, plugged it in and pushed the start button. Fans came on lights blinking away as there was no RAM installed. Shut it down. Boughtt a couple of gigs of RAM and installed that along with a video card from a B & W G3 yosemite tower that was confirmed by a couple of sources as a cheap way to get video out. All of this installing and removing following ESD precautions. Pushed the start button…nothing. Removed both the RAM and the card…nothing. Checked for voltage at those pins—nothing. Bought a new in box Apple repair kit with a power supply, fan array and PCI fan. Installed all three of those with a fresh battery, reset PMU, pushed the start button…wait for it…nothing. Checked the power supply pins, zip for voltage. These parts looked to be brand new, free of any dust or signs of human meddling. Now even if every other part of this machine was trash, I should still get some trickle power out of a good power supply—yes? Am I really missing the boat here? I have checked the front panel connections and that the button actually presses the switch. Checked the connectoion from the MLB to the interconnect board and they are all clean, sound connections. This thing is in imaculate condition, no corrosion of any kind on the logic board or anywhere else. It is the revised MLB with the 2Gig RAM printed on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ted

  • XServe Raid lost Array #2 after power outage

    Hi..
I've had an unfortunate incident with my XServe RAID.. it lost power, and when restarted array 1 came up, but #2 is showing the drives' status as all "spare" and no configured array.
Our first thought was to use the "recognize array" utility in Raid Admin, but (after upgrading to the latest firmware) when choosing either controller the recognize button is greyed out, as if it doesn't want to. If i'm reading the support docs correctly, the drives might actually need to be showing as "available" rather than "spare" - but I'm understanably hesitant to just issue the make drive available command in case that hoses the data that (we hope) is still on the drives.
other details are that array 1 is connected to an Xserve and array 2 (should be) talking to a win2k3 box, via their respective FC interfaces. the power outage was uncontrolled and affected all machines (UPS failure) and startup was also unattended which is worrying me that the 2k3 box might have done something to array 2 on the way back up.
naturally i'm googling this one like crazy but haven't yet found any relevant info. hoping a suggestion or two here might set me in the right direction?
not a nice way to spend a weekend - but at least i have until monday morning to sort it..
    thanks in advance..

Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately we'd already tried the complete power-down solution and no go. One thing i found out in the process was that we don't have the battery backup units installed, I think that might be a wise investment for next time.
We found a number of similar posts on the subject.. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1471056&tstart=165 and http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5949583&#5949583 and in the end just went with recreating the array and restoring from backup - it seems like the only option in this case... so i'll mark this thread closed.

  • Power Supply - No OC'ing, RAID, Higher End Video

I've always used Antec PS's for my Athlon XP systems due to their quiet operation.
For Pentium IV's you can use 9 volt batteries, something to be said for high tolerances
On Athlon 64's I've used Thermaltakes with decent results, and also Enermax Noisetaker.
I've read both of these units are not highly recommended with the NEO2.  It seems like I'm sticking with the Neo2 for a while and am thinking over a good PS choice.
The Noisetaker is great because it really is silent.  The system I'm using it in has RAID, but only a Matrox card so I guess that kind of balances things out.
Price has to be a consideration also, not everyone wants, nor needs, a 100 dollar power supply.  I can see in the 50-60 range for a general system and maybe higher for RAID/Highend video.
I looked at OCZ, 99 to start and the other brand doesn't seem to be available in the US.
There has to be 2 good PS's out there at a decent price and noise level, one for the low end and one for the high end, no overlocking involved at all, 2 DVD drives, 1, maybe 2 HD's and most likely the highest powered video card these will see if a 6600GT when it becomes available in AGP.  If someone goes with a 6800 its easily to justify the big 100 dollar unit.
Any suggestions?  Might not be a bad idea to make this a sticky like the memory thread also since so many thing the problems are PS related.

I am running a Neo2 Platinum with no problems on my TT 560W PSU. Cool, Quiet, and Stable running Doom3 for hours on end.
