About Push Notification Rules in iOS

I’ve been using iOS for some years now and there’s a behavior regarding Push Notifications that I still don’t understand. When I launch an app for the first time, let’s say a game, and the system asks me “AppName would like to send you push notifications (Notifications may include alerts, sounds and icon BADGES. This can be configured in Settings).” I usually select DON’T ALLOW, mostly with games. Buttttt…. Apps can still generate Badges in their icons and list notifications in Notification Center. I must manually check the Notification Center settings to disable Badges for those Apps even when I’ve selected “Don’t allow” when asked. This behavior started happening to me since iPhone 4 with iOS4 and keeps being like that in my iPhone 5 with iOS7.
Any explanation?

Read the post dude. This isn't an iOS7 topic. Same behavior in iOS6 & 5 & 4 with different iPhone models.

Is there anyone who can help me? Other applications have no problems about notifications, only WhatsApp.

  • Unwanted iPhone message about Push Notifications

A new problem has appeared om my iPhone (4s with iOS 8.1.2):
Many apps suddenly display a message telling me to connect to Itunes if I want to use push-notifications.
It is really annoying! How do I get rid of it without disabling Notifications altogether?

Hi and thanks for your reply!
I tried just that. The Connection with Itunes looked like it usually does and I couldn´t see any problem beeing handled in any way.
Unfortunately the message keeps coming so I have had to disable push on a number of apps.
    Still confused..

  • Push notification problems in ios 8.1 for outlook and hotmail imap accounts

I am having issues with push notifications ios 8.1 on my iPhone 6 for my Hotmail.com and outlook.com accounts.
No problem at all with my icloud email.
I get notifications off and on but not all the time. Push has become very unreliable and I constantly have to check my emails. The emails do sync correctly as they are in the mail app, however most of the time I don’t receive the push notifications unless I'm in the mail app. I have tried all of the below suggested "fixes", but none of them solve the problem:
    - Reset Network settings - Deleted accounts/rebooted phone/added accounts again   - Changed password  - Changed from push to fetch and back again  - Checked all push settings which are set to push on lock screen  - Cellular data is enabled for mail.
I’m wondering if it’s not an issue with Apple dropping SSL support as I’ve read in this article (although this is only effective on 29th Oct) http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/10/22/apple-to-drop-ssl-30-support-for-push- notifications-on-oct-29-due-to-poodle-vulnerability
Anyone else have the same problem with push on imap accounts?

Hello, I had the same issue since a few days.... really annoying. In fact I received the "badge", the label indicating I received new mails but it wasn't able to load them. I also tried everything you mentionned but now i gave up and deleted my hotmail mailbox on my iphone and reset it as exchange mailbox. ( in the screen where you can choose which type of mailbox you want to install eg. outlook/yahoo/.... you can choose the option exchange). sadly enough you can only see the mails of max 1 month old (manually to adapt 1 day / 5 days/ etc) and you can't really browse through your mail archives. But at least I receive my mails again!
Hope it works for you as well!

  • Question about push notifications for apps affect on battery life?

I've noticed that after installing certain "Push Notification Enabled" apps that my iPhone's battery drains very quickly even when said apps aren't running. I've read that if an app makes extensive use of push notifications that it can drain the battery, but I haven't received any notifications from said apps. Does simply having a number of push enabled apps installed drain the battery cause faster than normal battery drain?
I don't really care about the push notifications for many push enabled apps, but I do like to have it enabled for certain ones. Would disabling notifications for all but the apps I use actually save battery life? I would think that since push messages are sent from the app owners server to Apple's push servers to the phone, that disabling notifications on the phone for an app or even deleting the app itself would not prevent the actual data from being pushed to the phone. In other words does disabling notifications (or deleting the app) actually prevent the data from being pushed to the iPhone or does it simply tell the iPhone to ignore the pushed data? The former would not increase battery life while the later would.

I've learned that it's not the number of apps that use push notification that drains the battery, but the number of apps that actively use it to send messages.
If push is turned on, the battery will drain slightly faster since the phone needs to maintain a constant 3G (or GSM) connection open, but no data is actually sent or received unless you receive a push notification.
In the case of push email, a push notification triggers the mail app to make an outbound IMAP4 connection. Depending on how often you receive email, this can decrease the battery life. If you receive lots of emails every few minutes, using 15 minute fetch will be more battery efficient. If you receive emails every few hours, push is more efficient.
For apps, it doesn't really matter since the apps can't initiate a network connection unless they are running. I'm not sure if app servers constantly sending push notifications when the notification for those apps is turned off drains the battery any faster or not. From what I've read when push notification are turned off for an app, Apple's push servers will tell that app's servers to not perform a push. In other words, Apple won't push app notifications to the phone for apps where notifications are disabled or the app isn't installed.

  • Question about push notification

I am currenty on a cap plan with limited amounts of Internet. How much internet approx does push notification use? So that at least I have an idea of how much I can use mobile me.
    Thanks

It depends on how much email you get, the size of messages, and how often you update contacts and calendar. In general push will use less data than fetch, because fetch establishes a connection every 15 minutes (or whatever you have it set to). Push only establishes a connection when there is an update to be synced. Unless you regularly get large attachments your email usage will be pretty small, and correspond to the total size of the emails you send and receive. Web browsing and use of data-intensive applications (like Google Maps) will be the vast majority of your data usage.

    Hi Edamame,
I don't think Numbers can do what you want it to. I devised a hack to do this which Ian explains in this tip:

It is bulky and I don't think it would work well for you but there it is.

  • Quesiton about Push Notification Implementation in blackberry

    Hi,
If we want to implement Push notifcation message functionality in JDE, first of all we need to install Push notifcation JDK and then can we directly run HTTPPush demo from server as well as client?
I need some detailed information for this.
For push Notification we also need to implement server side application and one at client side. Can the client side application intercept or respond to push notifcation sent by the server ?
    Thanks and regards,

  • Push Notification to iOS devices through Sharepoint 2013

    Hi
We are developing a iphone application which is consuming sharepoint 2013 rest apis. we have a requirement to send pushnotification to iphones when a document is added or deleted. So will sharepoint exposes url to subscribe channel urls from iphone, I saw
for windows phone it is available.
    1) Need to know how to subscribe from iphone to sharepoint, is there any subscribe url with parameters like device id and channel       url.

    Hi,
Per my understanding, you might want to push notification to iOS devices in SharePoint 2013 when there is document added or deleted.
In SharePoint, we can use Event Receiver to monitor the item added/deleted event and perform accordingly.
More information on Event Receiver for your reference:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg749858(v=office.14).aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408183(v=office.14).aspx
However, as there is no such APIs exposed in SharePoint can help to handle the push notification to iOS devices, a workaround is that, you might need to create an application in
server side and perform the notification pushing there instead.
For the issue about pushing notification to iOS devices, as it is not a SharePoint related issue, I suggest you post a question to the corresponding forum, you will get more help
    and confirmed answers there.

  • Push notifications not working in iOS v8

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem while configuring push notifications in my iOS app. When I run an app using Xcode, push notifications are getting triggered properly with a specific device token. But after taking the IPA, It tracks some-other Device token and push notification is not getting triggered.I am facing this issue only in iOS v8.

I have Restored iPhone (from iTunes) then removed 'not working' applications (Yahoo messenger, Voxer, Bria,...) and reinstalled them from the App Store. Now they are working.

  • Push Notifications and slowness

Has anyone been experiencing general slowness on some applications with push notifications enabled? I was complaining to one app support person about how slow their application loaded but found out that if I disabled the push notifications, the app loaded in less than half the time. I couldn't complain much afterward. I thought that one of the great things about push notification was that it wasn't supposed to affect battery life or performance on the phone.

I'm glad it's working for you again.
It looks like there was some
potential issue yesterday that includes Service Bus, but I'm not sure if it also affected Notification Hubs.
It's always a good idea to go and check the
service status page when anything weird starts to happen.

  • Push Notification Revoke Permission

I want to ask how Apple Push Notification behaves if you want to stop sending push notification to the iOS devices after you changed passwords?
    For example:
Let say I have 5 users using the same Paypal account on 5 iOS devices with the same password at some stage.
All users have been able to use the iOS app, and getting push notifications.
Now I want to restrict access to only 2 users and revoke the other 3 users from getting access to PayPal account.
So, first thing I do is to change password to Paypal. That immediately restricted access to users that don't know what the new password is. So next time they launch Paypal, it will ask for new credentials.
Does that also stop Apple Push Notification Servers from sending out push notifications to all the iOS devices? I'm suspecting that I need to do something extra to stop APN servers to sending to the previously registered iPhones.

    Anyone?
