About ready to take the new Extreme Base Station back to the Apple store

Ok, I, too, am having early adopter blues. I bought the base station for one reason only - to use my external hard drive with it. But I have a 100gb "tunes" folder that cannot be recognized. I am almost thinking I should just purchase true NAS and plugin my old Linksys router, cause this is getting old.
Has anyone found a viable workaround for seeing large folders? I considered moving all of my artist folders out of my big tunes folder (hoping none were bigger than 2 gb) and seeing what happens there, but then if I have a data file larger than 2gb, I am SOL. And further, that means all of my data storage files are mixed in with my music folders, (meaning my Homework folder would be mixed in between Holly Golightly and Hot Hot Heat - not ideal by any stretch of the imagination).
This is making me CRAZY and I am quickly approaching my 14 day return policy . . . . sob.

Call Apple tech support before your option to return runs out and I am sure they will help.

  • Set up existing expresses with new extreme base station

We just replaced our old extreme base station with the new fast one. It works good so far except that now my two existing airport expresses- one I use for airtunes and the other to relay the wireless signal to a far corner of the house- don't work. What do I need to do to set them up with the new station? I tried a reset but it didn't help.

Either connect them with ethernet to configure the Expresses or find them wirelessly(you can use Airport Utility or the older Airport Admin Utility). The bottom line is to get the Express selected in Airport ie the icon on the top file menu then use the Utility. If your nearwork is not visible to select then use the preferred drop down menu found in Network pane of system preferences. You may need to type in the network name or use the + button.

  • PageMill3 wont do ftp upload or find printer using new extreme base station

    Hello,
I am still trying to use Adobe PageMill 3.0 to upload to my website.
It worked fine with the old dial up modem.
But it won't upload now via the airport extreme & BTL cable.
It does open the website folder but fails to establish a data connection.
Also it doesn't find the printer attached to the base station.
    Any ideas please.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Ken..

    Glyn,
    Money!
Thanks for the ideas. The 802.11b/g compatible setting was correct and I should have written that in my original post.
The original channel was 11. I manually changed it to 6 and, lo and behold, the older MacBook could see the network.
Thanks for the ideas and the help.

  • How long would it take the Apple Store to fix this common problem?

I have the 2010-2011 macbook black screen of death, some days it crashes at least 4 times a day! screen just blacks out and i have to restart. other than that everything works fine
    http://oleb.net/blog/2012/05/15-inch-mbp-mid-2010-crashing-to-black-screen/
now here it says apple will fix this for free, so i scheduled a genius appointment for Monday, this guy here says apple just replaced the entire logicboard, how long should it take?
also how can Apple verify that i have the same problem?  (I'm pretty sure it is the same problem)
I saved one of the error logs in a text file, maybe that should help.

  • AirPort Extreme Base Station (Dual Band) vs Apple TV

I recently "Upgraded" my WiFi network from the original single band AEBS (802.11n) to the new Dual Band model. Since doing so, my TV cannot connect to the wireless network. The TV can "See" the network, asks for a password, but shows "Failed to connect" error message. I have tried changing the radio channels (using the "option" key and running through all possibilities). I have turned off "Security" and tried to connect as an "Open" network. It will not connect. iTune does not "see" the TV nor does WiFi utility AirRadar. I wonder if the 802.11n card in the TV is toast? Anyone have any ideas?

As suggested, I reset the AEBS to factory defaults. On the TV, I went to >Settings>General>Network>Configure Wireless>Wireless Networks. I could then see the generic "Apple Network xxxxx" on the TV. From my MacBookPro, I verified that I could connect to the TV by launching iTunes and noting that the TV was now visible in the "Devices" menu. Went back to the AEBS and ran through the "Setup" routine. I did NOT use the "Previous Settings" but instead, saved the old settings profile, created a new wireless network and new settings profile and enabled WPA2 Personal encryption. I then went back to the TV and went through the "Settings" routine again (as noted above). This time, after entering my WPA2 password, the TV connected to the network and problem was solved. Thanks.

  • If I take my Iphone 5c to the apple store to be fixed with the service charge of $269, if they can't fix it do they replace the phone? Or will I have to pay retail price for a new phone?

I have a water damaged iphone 5c. I was thinking about taking it to the Apple store and paying the 269 dollar service charge for them to attempt to fix it. My question is: If they can't fix it, will they replace my phone for that $269 dollars, or will I have to pay full retail price for a new phone?

They do not repair at all.
    The replace.
The $269 is for a replacement.

  • Remote administration of Express in an Extreme Base Station network

I am a newb administrator of a small network of an AEBS with 2 Expresses in "extend a network" mode. I can access the Base Station over the internet but I haven't figured out how I can do the same with the Expresses.
Also, I understand that MAC filtering is unavailable for the Expresses in "ext a net" mode. Is this correct? It seems to be operational for the Base Station but even restricted MAC addys can access the network through the Expresses

    On this same topic;
We have a new Extreme base station that connects 1 MBP, (wirelessly), 1 HP Laptop (wirelessly) and 2 PC (via ethernet) to the internet.
All of the computers can see and use the Extreme base station and the printer connected to it via USB.
We also have an Airport Express that the two laptops can see. This has a printer connected to it as well via USB. (both are new Canon printers and all of the software for each, and their drivers are loaded on all computers).
Both the Extreme and Express have a steady green light, their own names and are set up on the same network.
Though my MBP can see both the Extreme and Express, neither "see" each other as far as I can tell. And, the printer connected to the Express cannot be seen in either Bonjour Printers, or anywhere else.
Also, in order to "attempt" to find the printer connected to the Express, I have to disconnect from the Extreme Base Station and connect to the Express.
How can I get the printer (connected to the Express) to show up in my pick list of printers WITHOUT having to disconnect from the Extreme and connect to the Express. Also, how can we get the Express to be connected to the internet via the Extreme?
All searches here and documents I have poured though do not address this issue and we'd really like to get this straightened out. I am willing to take a lot of time to do this, but do it right.
Can someone please help me with this?
    Thank you in advance,
    ~ J

  • Extreme Base Station

I have a MacBook Pro and a XP Desktop computer. I bought a new Extreme Base Station in November and for the last several weeks when I am on my MacBook and my husband gets on the PC it knocks him off and cannot find the server. Any ideas why this is happening?

  • Airport Express Transmits To Airport Extreme Base Station Intermittently

I have an Airport Extreme set up as my base station wirelessly.  I also have an Airport Express set up to extend the range of my network.
The reason I have the air port express is that the walls of my house are very thick, so I thought that if I have an Airport Express, then I can jump the signal from one signal strength room to a week signal strength room.
The length of the house is within the 30m range.  Airport Utility occasionally can not see the AExtreme or AExpress but if I put both in the same room it picks both up.   At the low signal strength end of the house my MacBook or MacBook Pro Air Port Utility only picks up the AExpress located at this end of the house.  If I restart the AExpress then Airport Utility picks up both airports in the week signal room, then the Extreme drops out.
Q1 - Why does this happen i.e. only showing the nearest / clearest signal air port?
What I have established is that the connection to the internet is always through the wireless signal from the AExtreme (ADS Router connected directly to this).  I established this by switching off the AExpress at the week signal end of the house and finding a spot where the signal could be picked up.
Q2 - If the AEtxreme and AExpress are within the nominal 30 m range why cant my lap tops just pick up both Airports on Airport Utility.
Q3 - Can you set up both Airports such that one will boost the signal and if so how.
Q4 - When running AExtreme only why does the signal strength vary - even when sitting right next to the extreme?
    Thanks
    Alastair

    On this same topic;

  • Adding an Airport Express to an Extreme Base Station

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and it has been operating for several months, I decided to add an Airport Express to extend the range and it appeared that it was a simple process. NOT. The Express instructions indicated that when downloading the software to follow the instructions on setting up a network but it will not get that far in that I get an error message telling me I have a newer version of I Tunes and it stops the install. I have gone through the tech support pages here and am at a loss on how to get this connected. Can anyone help provide me a step by step method to do this? Thanks

  • 40-bit WEP possible on Extreme Base Station ?

I need to use 40-bit WEP (and a 5 character password), but my new Extreme Base Station (7.2) doesn't support it like my Express base Station did. Any way to supercede the available options?

    Thanks for your reply.
No, never worked. Only WEP "Transitional" shows up (besides the WPA settings) without choice of 40 or 128-bit encryption and only allows a 13 character password. These options do show up on my old Express Base Station. When I initially set it up, it said that a firmware update (7.2.1. I think) was available, but I didn't do it because I needed to switch back to my operational 40-bit WEP network immediately.
Was 40-bit functionality restored with this update? I can't find any info on Apple tech articles about 40-bit and Extremes excpet that "some models" have it, but it doesn't specify which ones. I do have the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) MA073LL/A.

  • OS X 10.2 w/ Airport Card Connecting to Extreme Base Station

    Hey--
I'm on a G3 Powerbook (w/Firewire) running OS X 10.2 and I installed an Airport Card and I'm trying to connect to a new Extreme Base Station-- and PB can't see the Base station in the Airport Utility. Although my PB does receive the signal from the base station.
    I've tried:
    - Resetting the base station
    - Loaded Airport 2.1.1 software update
    - a million configurations
    - yelling at it...
The airport card does work, because it connected on another wireless system.
Can someone help me with the definative fix?
    Mike

Welcome to the discussion area, stacidesign!
First, you have verified that the PC can connect to another wireless network, correct? If it can, then that tells you that the wireless card is functioning correctly.
You'll have better luck connecting to a newer wireless router if you are able to update the PC to Windows XP SP3. Have you tried this?
It's also possible that the wireless card in the PC can connect to a 802.11 "b" or "g" network, but not to an "n" network. To check that out, you need to use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to make a change in the radio mode of the AirPort Extreme.
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Radio Mode selection box
Write down your current settings so you can return to them later if needed
    Select this Radio Mode...+802.11n only (5 GHz) -- 802.11 b/g+
Keep the Wireless Security set to "None" temporarily
Update to save changes and allow 30-40 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart
    Restart the PC
See if the PC can connect now
Please post back on your results

  • Airport extreme base station with Hp 3210 all in one printer

Just bought and hooked up the above. Using with iBook G4. Still dealing with dial-up unfortunately, but got online just fine. When I tried to print on the above, it immediately dialed up when I hit "print". ?? What's going on?

I have a pretty old HP all-in-one (G55) printer/scanner/copier device. Plugging it into my AEBS seems to not let me print to it. I have the most recent driver from HP.
Do you think it's my setup, or is the AEBS somehow not compatible with the older HP devices?
No the problem is with the HP driver.
    Try using the HPIJS drivers.
For those with the older base station.
    Use the process outlined here:
HP Printers (and others) not on compatibility list and Airport Extreme Printing
    http://tech.ifelix.net/1300.html
Also, is it possible to fax, scan, etc through an all-in-one device plugged into an AEBS?
No, not via the USB port.
Can I scan using my all-in-one when it is connected to the USB port of an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station?

  • Why isn't the Apple store working?

Why isn't the Apple store working? I wanted to buy a iPad but I can't because the store isn't working. When will the store start working?

Apple is in the midst of announcing new products and they normally take the Apple Store offline while a keynote is in progress. The Apple Store will be back up when the keynote is over. Try back in about a half an hour or so.
    Regards.
