About Recovery Wizard

Hi, I have a doubt about recovery wizzard... well I need to recover my laptop to it original state but I already created 2 patitions, So i was thinking about backup everything but is a lot... and I saw an option at recovery wizard's menu that says "don't delete patitions" and I thought that would leave my partitions without changes... but at the next screen it says that all patition data would be deleted, so I'm a bit confussed :/ can someone help me? is there a way to recover my system without losing my partitions?
Thanks.

I have multiple partitons on my system as well, with one used as a data partition.  When I selelct the option to "Recover without changing the hard drive partitions" it only deletes the actual Windows install partition.  It doesn't change any of the others.  All data in the partition that you select to recover to will be lost, but it will NOT delete any of the data in any of the other partitions.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Do I need to use Toshiba Recovery Wizard?

    Hi everyone!
I've been having major problems with my Toshiba since I first got it last March. I have a Toshiba Satellite L750, Windows 7, 64-bit, with 6GB of RAM.
Last December (right before finals were due -_-) my laptop just committed suicide. The hard drive totally died on me out of the blue. I got a computer-savvy friend to replace my hard drive with a new one. Everything was working fine at first, but within a week my laptop ate that hard drive up too. It was BIZARRE. I went back home for the holidays and since my laptop was still under warranty then (it's not now), Toshiba replaced my hard drive, reinstalled Windows, etc. This was in January - things were fine, but it's now May and everything is messed up again.
Basically everything takes forever to load or it doesn't load at all - desktop, taskbar, programs, internet, user accounts... sometimes Windows won't even load. Booting in Safe Mode, things work, but they still take a little longer than usual, even just logging into my user account.
I've ran CCleaner numerous times. I've tried starting up with certain programs disabled. I've ran virus scans, and this is another problem -every single time I try to run Malware Bytes, in Safe Mode and regularly, the scan ALWAYS freezes. After that, nothing else works and I have to restart the laptop. Startup Repair doesn't do anything. Neither does sfc/scannow. Also, I tried doing a System Restore, only to find that I have no restore points. It doesn't seem to be a virus - Avast is always running and hasn't found anything.
I ran a system analyzer on my laptop and this is some of the information I got:
513.0 GB of available space on system partition
Total size of hard drives is 595.6 GB
Total memory of PC is 6092 MB
-all of this is apparently "above average"
    HDD speed = 58MB/second
CPU has 2 cores running at 2.29GHz
    CPU temperature = 60C (140F)
I uninstalled programs I don't use and have tried physically cleaning my computer, but to no avail. Usually I can get past the startup/Windows logo screen fine, but once I get to a user account/desktop, that's when all the problems start.
    Any suggestions?
Someone said to use the Toshiba Recovery Wizard/HDD Recovery, since I'm not too fussed about losing files. Do you think this will help? Would it completely wipe out Windows 7, though?
I can access the "Repair your computer" function that leads me to Toshiba Recovery Wizard... does that mean that it'll restore everything to factory settings (out-of-box) and reinstall Windows 7 automatically? I'm assuming this because I don't remember receiving any recovery disks, so I'm thinking this might be the hidden recovery partition. I don't have the Windows installation CD, so I just want to make sure I won't end up without an OS before I go ahead and try it.
I'm trying to exhaust all options because I'm a brokeass student and would prefer to not have to buy a new laptop... but if nothing can be done, then I guess I'll have to.
    Thanks for reading!

    Thanks Jerry!
So do you think this will work? The fact that my laptop has eaten up 3 HDDs now kinda makes it seem like it's a hardware issue... a problem with the motherboard. I gave this laptop to Toshiba in January when I was still under warranty, and I specifically told them that this laptop goes Hannibal for hard drives -which is not normal - and that they should check if there's a hardware issue (it had eaten 2 HDDs at that point). Clearly they didn't do that, though - they just slapped in a new hard drive. If they had listened to me, then my HDD wouldn't be dying every 3, 4 months. I've accepted that I need to buy a new laptop, but I just need something to work in the meantime while I look for one (and scrounge up some cash).
Also, do you think the fact that nothing ever loads on my laptop will have an effect on the Recovery Wizard? I read that if even one thing goes wrong during the recovery process, everything will be completely lost and you can't even try the process again. Obviously I don't want that to happen!
And one more question: it's not 100% clear in the manual and that is what I originally came here to post about - will the "out-of-box" recovery process delete my OS? I have a Windows 7 sticker on my laptop, so I'm pretty sure it was pre-installed... I definitely don't have any disks with me. So even if it does work, will it reinstall Windows 7/MS Office/etc. automatically for me?
    Thanks again for your help!

  • P745: Possible Bad Hard Drive. How do I get Toshiba Recovery Wizard on New HD?

Hey everyone last week my computer was behaving slouchy so I did a simple restart. When it restarted it took me to a screen which said loading "Windows files" then it took me to Startup Repair. Startup repair could not repair the issue and I did a few check disk scans and one of them said 4 sectors of the hard drive were bad. I used Toshiba recovery wizard and restored the computer to an out of box state.
I also installed ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot option last night. Now fast forward to this morning and I am using Windows. After installing Toshiba driver updates the laptop is again behaving slouchy and refusing to load web pages. When I restart the computer after one to the driver updates I get an error about not being able to start windows and so I choose "Attempt to boot from last successful attempt" this works. However, something tells me that the bad sectors of the hard drive are to blame.
So I want to order this 1TB toshiba notebook hard drive and install in the P745. http://www.toshiba.com/us/accessories/Storage/Hard-Drive-Replacements-and-Upgrades/1TB/PH2100U-1I54
However, the hard drive will be blank and so I want it to have Windows 7 on it and the Toshiba recovery wizard which I find to be extremely useful.
How do I go about getting back Windows 7 on the new hard drive and the recovery partition on the new drive. Do I order the recovery usb from Toshiba? https://support.toshiba.com/repair?orderType=SFF
Then somehow this usb will assist me in transferring the contents of my current hard drive to the new one including Windows and Toshiba Recovery Wizard?
I would be grateful for any clarifications and assistance you can provide.
    Thanks.

Post full model and operating system!
    Your answer in general -
You should have the option to create recovery media from your Toshiba so you don't have to buy them.
Type in your search bar recovery and the recovery media creator or may be named something different should be there to make the 3 or 4 DVD's.
This will restore to out of box settings including the recovery partition. - IT DOES NOT BACKUP YOUR OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM or anything you have added since it was new.
During the recovery it will ask if you want to rescue your info or you can save your documents, pictures , etc manually before hand.
If you reformatted the drive and installed a stand alone version of windows 7 there will not be a recovery partition and you will have to order the recovery media, you can get it here in US : http://support.toshiba.com/recovery#media

  • Toshiba Recovery Wizard Error f3-ff00-0021

    P500-ST6844
    PSPGSU-0Q2012
i recently noticed that my toshiba recovery wizard option in the Windows 7 RE no longer works. All the HDD recovery partitions are intact. i tried a recovery by pressing the '0' when i powered up the system and performed a factory recovery, but the recovery wizard in Windows RE still won't come up. I even tried using the recovery media
I made when I first got the computer. I even tried having the recovery media delete all info on the drive before I tried to perform a factory restore. when i use the 'Windows 7 Repair disc' i also made when I got the computer to try and bring up the toshiba recovery wizard, it comes up. but that doesn't really help me because it tries to use disc based recovery not the HDD based recovery. it also doesn't help because I chose to make my recovery media using two USB flash drives, instead of a bunch of cd/dvd discs. I know the recovery partitions and the recovery files are there and intact, but for some reason the recovery wizard won't open.
when i go to a command prompt in winre and type either startup32_tools.exe or startup32_proton.exe (i'm not sure which) the recovery wizard finally comes up but with the error f3-ff00-0021. I don't know if this is because i'm trying to bring up the wizard manually and doing something wrong, or if this is part of the problem i am experiencing.
P.S. To Toshiba: Major Kudo's on the option in the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator to use a couple of flash drives (a 4Gb and a 16GB in my case) for creating the recovery media. It's alot better than having to burn 5 dvd discs. dvd-r disc are really expensive where i am. the flash drive option saved me time and money!

    UPDATE: (long overdue)
Turns out the error was caused by the backup utility was using that was supposed to make an image of ALL the partitions on my system. turns out the type of partition that containd all the toshiba/microsoft windows recovery files (type 0x17). are not commonly supported by some backup software. although the files were initially there, when i ran a system recovery using the backup software, it restored the system, but blanked out the partition called 'HDDRECOVERY'. as a result, when i ran into problems later and wanted to perform a factory system recovery, it was not possible because the files no longer existed. i talked to the backup software company about this issue, but they were not very cooperative. also the inital issue of the repair option not appearing was caused by a issue with the BCD file that windows bootmanager uses to keep track of boot options. i have since learned how to fix this issue, but it is a pain in the @$$ when it occurs. My solution issue, was resolved by the fact i had thooughtfully made an partition image of the partitions 'HDDRECOVERY' and 'SYSTEM' using commodo backup. i had made them on the day i recieved my laptop, putting it on my old seagate freeagent desk drive, and had subsequently put the drive away into storage and forgotten about the backups. the most difficult part, once i remembered about the backups, was getting them restored properly. but, i was able to do it so problem solved.
Moral of this tale: BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! You can never have too many backups

  • Recovery Wizard missing from MDT welcome menu

I can't seem to get the Recovery Wizard to show on the MDT 2013 welcome screen when doing a PXE boot.
One thing I did want to clarify, if the client pc doesn't have a recovery partition is this why I don't get to run the wizard?
Im wanting to see the recovery wizard option so I can go in and run the DART Locksmith tools
    MDT 2013
    Windows 7
    Dart 8
I thing I've tried everything and getting nowhere!

MDT uses a round about way to get the Recovery wizard to work in MDT Litetouch console.
THe recovery tools are not included by default in the WAIK, so MDT extracts these components from a working boot.wim from one of your OS install sources.
Can you do a dump of all the WinPE WIM files in question:
    DISM.exe /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:C:\Path\To\Wim\winpe.wim /Index:1
    Dump the boot.wim in your <deploymentShare>\Operating Systems\<OS>\sources\boot.wim
    and the wimpe.wim under the c:\program files(x86)\windows kits\...\WinPE.wim
Both files must exist on your machine *and* they must be the same OS Version.

  • A135-s7404 recovery wizard problems

A135-s7404 will not boot up.  It gets stuck in start-up repair.  When I press 0 and enter the recovery wizard, it asks me for a disc.  I don't recall this coming with a system disc.  I can find no way to access any restore file that might be on the hard drive.
I have removed the hard drive and can access the data from a usb enclosure.  WHat type of files should I look for to help with a restore.

Sorry about that....I was telling you the response I get from the computer.
Start up repair runs for about  2 minutes and then basically says that it can't fix the computer automatically.  I elected to not send the informationto microsoft then asks me to view diagnotic and repair details or view advanced options for system recovery and support.
The Startup repair diagnostic and repair log basically says...
    All tests completed sucessfully
Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem.
    the command prompt results:
Sucessfully scanned windows installations.  Total identified windows installations: 0.  The operation was completed successfully.
    No windows installations?????????

  • HDD Recovery instead of Recovery Wizard

    Dear All,
I like to re-install the operation system on my Satellite Pro T130 laptop without changing the partitions. This is possible with the Recovery Wizard by http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
However, when I start my laptop with the Advanced Boot Menu (F8), I find only the HDD Recovery menu in the System Recovery Options, no Recovery Wizard.
I tried to start this wizard by starting the computer with the zero (0) key from the top but it did not work. I shut down the windows, pushed and held 0, turned on my laptop, when Toshiba logo appeared I sill held the zero key and instead of the Recovery Wizard, the Windows started.
I tried it at least 10 times and it is getting frustrating.
I bought this laptop in Hungary in 2010.
I just wondering that Toshiba offers both (HDD Recovery + Recovery Wizard) of the recovery options on their laptops or the older laptops came with only HDD Recovery?
If the starting process with the zero key is not working, what can I do?
In addition, my understanding about the difference between HDD Recovery and Recovery Wizard is the following: (please correct me if I am wrong)
HDD Recovery is re-setting the manufacturer state that means that it deletes every data from every partition. When you turn on the laptop first time, a wizard will come up so you can partition the hard drive. Like the out-of-box+customizing option in the Recovery Wizard.
Recovery Wizard has three options: out-of box (described previously), customizing partitions and recovery without changing the hard drive partitions. I like to use this last option so it will delete all of the data from the first partition (C drive) on the hard drive. Will not touch data on other partitions like D, E (etc.) drives.
    Am I right?
    Thanks your answers,
    Kind Regards,
    Kardos52

    Hello
According notebook specification this Satellite Pro was offered with preinstalled Win7 version and WXP recovery DVD. Preinstalled Win7 version includes preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool so notebook owner can create recovery media (bootable USB stick) that includes original recovery image for Win7. This bootable USB stick can be used for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD recovery installation.
As I can see you have some problem with HDD recovery installation so my question is: have you created such recovery media? Do you have it and can you use it for Win7 installation?
    > However, when I start my laptop with the Advanced Boot Menu (F8), I find only the HDD Recovery menu in the System Recovery Options, no Recovery Wizard.
Toshiba HDD Recovery option in System recovery options will be available if notebook has factory settings only.
    > I tried to start this wizard by starting the computer with the zero (0) key from the top but it did not work. I shut down the windows, pushed and held 0, turned on my laptop, when Toshiba logo appeared I sill held the zero key and instead of the Recovery Wizard, the Windows started.
Why do you use zero at start-up? Where have you found description that you should use zro to start HDD recovery installation? As I can see in posted Toshiba document you should use F8 only. When you use F8 and enter Advanced boot options is option Repair my computer available or not?
    > I just wondering that Toshiba offers both (HDD Recovery + Recovery Wizard) of the recovery options on their laptops or the older laptops came with only HDD Recovery?
All Toshiba notebooks offered with preinstalled Win7 have Toshiba HDD recovery option but only if they have factory settings. If notebook owner install own OS version such option will not be available anymore. In this case you can install original recovery image using created recovery media.
From my experience you should use out-of-box option only. Be careful with other options. Recover to a custom size partition can result with losing all data and recovery image too.
Most important thing is: do you have recovery media (USB or DVD) or not?

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

    Satellite L655-S5096
    Downloads here.
the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • Confusion about recovery

    Hi ,
I am new to the DBA field and I have a confusion about recovery.
The confusion is if a database is in noarchivelog mode can a database be recovered from commited changes that were there in the redo log files ?
If I provide the path name of the redo log files while using recover database using cancel will it work at all given that the database is in noarchivelog mode ?
Please help to clear my doubts..

Oracle can use the Online Redo Logs for Recovery. Normally this happens in the case of Instance Recovery (e.g. from a server crash or shutdown abort) -- where the datafiles are not restored from a prior backup.
If you restore datafiles from a prior backup, you are doing a media recovery. In NOARCHIVELOG mode, you could not have run a backup with the database OPEN, so the backup would have been run with the database SHUTDOWN or MOUNTed. At the subsequent startup, transactions would be in the online redo logs only until LGWR does a "wrap around" and overwrites the first redo log used after the startup. It is only within this window that transactions are in the redo logs.+
Remember that LGWR uses a "round-robin" algorithm to cycle through the online redo logs. So, if the Online Redo Log that was CURRENT at the time of the backup has been overwritten, you cannot use the Online Redo Logs for a RECOVERy+._
You must also ensure that there are no NOLOGGING operations !!
One thing that you might trip up on is the behaviour of CTAS. A "CREATE TABLE AS SELECT" is, by default LOGGING in an ARCHIVELOG database. However, it is automatically a Direct Path operation in a NOARCHIVELOG database ! So the blocks for such a table would be "corrupt" if you attempt a recovery from the Online Redo Log as the row inserts are not captured.

I still don't understand the situation. If that message continues to appear, something has gone wrong. If you cannot restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents from the recovery partition, best to order the recovery media from Toshiba. If the hardware is okay, that will enable you to start out fresh.

  • About Recovery ....plz help

i am having a confusion about recovery....when i try to make recovery it says that "the pc will be set to factory state"...........it means does the recovery formates only C drive data or the entire drives data.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

If the recovery type that you choose will format and partition only the Windoiws partition it will state that.
If you choose a factory image recovery, then the entire hard disk will have the partitions deleted, then repartitioned  and formatted as appropriate in the OEM factory partition scheme as delivered.
If you choose minimal system recover then only the C: (Windows) partition will be deleted, formatted and recreated with minimal HP software.

Is there any way to disable this at boot. I am working on this for a pc illiterate friend who doesn't know why the recovery screen started. If I select No on the warning screen doesn't work. Neither does selecting Yes and then cancel. I was once able to get it to boot to the window login screen but restarting the computer goes back to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.

  • Recovery wizard in Server 2008 Backup not showing all available backups

We have a Windows 2008 R2 server with a dedicated USB drive for backups. I check the backup routinely and it appears to get a good backup every day. According to the logs, I have 79 copies of the backup available. But when I needed to restore a file this
morning, the Recovery Wizard only showed  3 days of backups to choose from, going back to last Friday.
How do I get the recovery wizard to see the other backups that are on that disk?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
According to your description, the backup may be configured incremental. It restores to earlier versions by using the Volume Shadow copy service which are stored on the external drive.
    Optimizing Backup and Server Performance
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd759145.aspx
After the first full backup is created, you can configure Windows Server Backup to automatically run incremental backups by saving only the data that has changed since the last backup. Even if you choose to always perform full backups, your backup will
take less time than it did in earlier versions of Windows.

When I get to the recovery wizard on my toshiba l655d-s5116 i should be able to select it and move to next screen where I can select recovery (out of box state). I have done this in the past without a problem but now when I click on recovery wizard the cd-rom pops open asking for a disk?
Never seen this before, so how do i do a factory restore now? i still have a recovery partition. and also why is it doing this now?

    >time to invest in a restore cd. thanks again.
Dont know what happens here with your Recovery Creator software but it seems that the image files which are needed in order to create a Recovery disk cannot be found.
So it seems that you need to purchase a recovery disk.
