About report designer

Dear all,
   when i create a report by report designer and run the report ,  the report can't be sort by char like report from query designer, so i wonder whether the sort function is not support for the report through report designer,thanks!

Report designer is mainly used for formatting of reports the look and feel part only.
For sort and other related things you need to use Web templates or Analyzer output.
Hope this helps.

  • Viewing Report created in Crystal Report Designer

    <p>Hi,</p><p>I&#39;m new to CR4E and tries to work with existing report. I saw many error while trying this, please excuse me to the long email below that I explain all the errors I saw......</p><p>I have some reports that were created in Crystal Report Designer (CR XI Release 2) connecting to the Oracle Database using "Oracle Server" type connection. How can I access it from CR4E? I have the following problem (in the order I see them)</p><p>1) In the Eclipse&#39;s JSP page, I specified the full path to the report, but I get a report not found error. Must the report locate within the project? Is there any way we can open a report outside of the project?</p><p>2) I copied the report to the project, </p><p>    a) followed jrc_print_report example to print the report, get "JNDI name not found" error. </p><p>    b) then generate a viewer page, but I get the Driver "crdb_oracle.dll" is not supported error.</p><p>3) I setup the new JNDI followed the jrc_changedatasource.jsp example to change the datasource, but I still get the "JNDI name not found" error.</p><p>4) I imported the report intoEclipse and changed the connection. Then I can create a jsp page to print it to a printer (I still can&#39;t view it, but my goal is to print, so that&#39;s ok). Hi Celia
    1. Yes the Java Reporting Component (JRC) which is the runtime component of the Crystal Reports for Eclipse can open reports outside the project.  Its often better to have the reports inside the project for deployment purposes but you are welcome to put the report where ever you need it.Â
    Note: To use absolute paths, ensure that the CRConfig.xml file does not contain a reportlocation tag.
    2. The JRC can't report off of Oracle directly, you would need to use a JDBC driver to connect your reports to Oracle. The crdb_oracle.dll will never connect because its not Java.Â
    3. When the JRC finds that the report is not using a supported database driver it will do a lookup to find the name of the report datasource. When it finds the datasource name it will then do a JNDI lookup for a JDBC datasource with the same name. If your Application server doesn't have a datasource with that name it will through the error you were seeing.Â
    4. I'm not sure about losing the Command object when changing the datasource but this is probably happening because the Command is linked to the database driver.
    5. What you could try doing is creating a JDBC Datasource on your application server where this app will run with a JNDI name that matches your report datasource name. If your reports datasource name is "MyOracleDatasource" then I believe the JNDI name for new JDBC Datasource would have to be "jdbc/MyOracleDatasource".
    You could give this a try.

  • How to rename sections in CR XI R2 Report Designer?

    Hello!
    I have developed a number of reports with the Report Designer Component in Visual Basic.  In the RDC, you can rename the report sections using the VB properites for that section.  I am saving these reports as .rpt files so that I can display them with with a Java client using JRC.  When I edit the .rpt files in CR XI R2 Report Designer, I cannot see the section names that I gave to the sections in the RDC, and I cannot find a way to edit the section names.  However, I can still access the sections in the rpt files with JRC by the names I gave them in the RDC, so the section names must be in there some where.  Where does on edit/view the section names in the CR XI R2 report designer?
    I have probably missed something obvious, so thanks for any help!
    Edited by: Joseph Huber on Mar 17, 2010 9:20 PM

    Hello,
    "From the RDC, one can export the report to an RPT file. When you perfrom that operation RDC is out of the picutre"
    Not correct. It is the RDC processing the report and doing the exporting.
    RDC (craxdrt.dll) is COM, Java is our JAR files and the Report Designer uses crpe32 based API's and functionality plus some more embedded routines which are a combination of our API's. And I believe you may be using the Embedded Designer Control (craxddrt.dll - yes one more d ) which is another deprecated report engine and is only used in the .NET IDE for creating reports and no allowed to distribute as of CR 2008.
    The Report Designer ( crw32.exe ) only has the option to use long names or short names and will display those only and not your custom names. The Java Engine ( JRC ) is relatively new and is based on existing code but completely different so no new functionality and I doubt naming of sections is included.
    The Embedded Designer Control was used for third party developers to impliment into their own applications but as noted above, it's no longer supported as of CR 2008. Life cycle is about to end also for R2.
    The replacement for the RDC is Report Application Server ( RAS ) and can be used in both a managed .NET as well as a Java application.
    Yes it is totally confusing so Use what ever works... But this would be a minor issue which if you really want it in RAS or the JRC I can put in an Enhancement request for you?
    Thank you
    Don

  • Bex Report Designer - Large amount of data issue

    Hi Experts,
    I am trying to execute (on Portal) report made in BEx Report Designer, with about 30 000 pages, and the only thing I am getting is a blank page. Everything works fine at about 3000 pages. Do I need to set something to allow processing such large amount of data?
    Regards
    Vladimir

    Hi Sauro,
    I have not seen this behavior, but it has been a while since I tried to send an input schedule that large. I think the last time was on a BPC NW 7.0 SP06 system and it worked OK. If you are on a recent support package, then you should search for relevant notes (none come to mind for me, but searching yourself is always a good idea) and if you don't find one then you should open a support message with SAP, with very specific instructions for recreating the problem from a clean input-schedule.
    Good luck,
    Ethan

    error while loading query meta data
    check the query and portal settings
    i am getting this error only this report only
    Diagnosis
    An error occurred in the BI components on the SAP J2EE Engine.
    System Response
    Procedure
    Contact your system administrator to have the error analyzed in detail.
    Procedure for System Administration
    Start the Visual Administrator, log on to the SAP J2EE Engine and choose "<J2EE_SID>" ->"Server" -> "Services" -> "Log Viewer".
    The file "defaultTrace.trc" includes detailed information about the error that occurred. In Windows, you can find this file in the Log Viewer under "Cluster <computer name>" -> "Server <server number>" -> "<drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<INSTANCE>\j2ee\cluster\server<NUMBER>\log". ". In Unix, the file is located under "/usr/sap/<SID>/JC<INSTANCE>/j2ee/cluster/server<NUMBER>/log".
    If the file does not include enough detail about the error, you can increase the log level to obtain more information. To do this, choose "<J2EE_SID>" -> "Server" -> "Services" -> "Log Configurator". On the "Locations" tab page, choose "com" -> "sap" -> "ip" -> "bi" -> "webapplications". Using the selection list on the right side of the screen, you can increase the log level, whereby "DEBUG" represents the log level with the most information. You can save your settings by choosing the "Save" icon. The change to the log level is active immediately. Once you have successfully analyzed the error, you should set the log level back to its default value using the appropriate pushbutton; continuous writing to the log file negatively affects the overall performance of the system.

    Hi Suneel,
    If you are using any JAVA based applications or objects in the Report designer this error is thrown.
    It's better to install Java engine to correct this error.
    You must contact Basis people in order to solve this issue.

    Hi vadlamudi
    The error message RSBOLAP 018 means, that the ABAP stack can't communicate with the Java Stack.
    1) Please ensure, that the user, used for the Report Designer, is valid in the Portal too. Depending on the user management setup this means that there either needs to be the same user or an assigned user in the Portal.
    2) In case the user is valid, it means a basic misconfiguration according to note 937697. In this case please run the Support Desk Tool and ensure, that all checks are green. Please ensure, that the latest version of the Support Desk Tool is used.

    I totally agree with Alex.
    With over 11,600 threads this forum is really "heavy".
    A few more categories would reduce the efford for searching and rise the effectiveness.
    This applies to a few more categories by the way.
    Nevertheless I'm also happy about the quit good support in this board.

  • Report Designer Control - Redistribution Issue

    Hi:
    I use Report Designer Control(RDC) in my program to allow user to modify reports.  I made a build and installed the build but when I try to access report designer from program I am getting the error about license.
    "This system does not have a valid license, or the evaluation  copy of the license has expired. Please contact Business Objects to obtain a Report Design Control license."
    I do have valid KeyCode for RDC and i am supplying the same for the merge module too.
    My Development Environment
    Operating System            :     Windows XP (SP 2)
    IDE                                 :     VS 2005 Professional
    Crystal Reports                :      XI Release 2 Developer
    Deployment Software        :      InstallShield 12 Premier
    Can anyone please tell me why I am getting above message, I can able to distribute Report Designer Control with Crystal Reports 9 version without any problems, but it is not working with Crystal Reports XI.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sriram.

    Hello,
    The Report Designer Component (RDC) was never designed to work in Visual Studios .NET.  This is because the RDC is an ActiveX COM component and Microsoft has been moving away from ActiveX.
    It is also my experience that RCAPI applications - "to allow user to modify reports" - will not work in a Visual Studios application.
    It is possible you're getting your error if you had an original CR XI (v11.0) keycode and upgraded to CR XI R2 (v11.5).  Original CR XI (v11.0) keycodes will not work. CR XI (v11.0) keycodes do not "unlock" RCAPI functionality in CR XI R2 (v11.5).  If you upgraded from CR XI (v11.0) to CR XI R2 (v11.5) you likely have an original CR XI (v11.0) keycode.  You will need to get a new CR XI R2 keycode from Business Objects.  You can contact the Customer Care team by email - customercareamericas @ businessobjects.com (rebuild the email address) - or by phone - 800-877-2340, option 5.  If they need additional information you can ask them to contact me.  I'm on the Developer Support team and they should be able to contact me internally.
    If you have an original CR XI R2 (v11.5) keycode please make sure to update to at least Service Pack 2 and download updated RDC merge modules from the [Business Objects Software Download Page|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm].
    Please remember that even if you get a new, original CR XI R2 keycode, and/or update your merge modules  you may still not be able to get your VS2005 RCAPI RDC application working.
    Sincerely,
    Dan Kelleher

  • Custom rendering extensions not working in SSRS Report Designer (rsreportdesigner.config)

    My custom rendering extension is working in Report Builder (in RSReportServer.config), but not in Report Designer (in RSReportDesigner.config):  instead of adding a "TXT" export option, it's just adding a duplicate "CSV" option.
    SUMMARY:
    Is there a way to get these features working, with Report Designer?
    DETAILS:
    We are running SSRS (Reporting Services) under SQL Server 2008 R2.
    Here's my rendering section:
        <Render>
          <Extension Name="XML" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.XmlDataReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering" />
          <Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering" />
          <!-- TXT extension with help from:  http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/d79845a8-17fb-4ec6-b121-2c40cf466d73/how-do-i-add-a-pipe-delimited-option-in-ssrs-2008-report-manager?forum=sqlreportingservices -->
          <Extension Name="TXT" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
            <OverrideNames>
                <Name Language="en-US">TXT(ASCII,NoColHds)</Name>
            </OverrideNames>
            <Configuration>
                 <DeviceInfo>
                     <FileExtension>txt</FileExtension>
                    <FieldDelimiter>,</FieldDelimiter>
                    <Encoding>ASCII</Encoding>
                    <NoHeader>true</NoHeader>
                </DeviceInfo>
            </Configuration>
          </Extension>
          <Extension Name="IMAGE" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ImageRenderer.ImageRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering" />
          <Extension Name="PDF" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ImageRenderer.PDFRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering" />
          <Extension Name="HTML4.0" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.HtmlRenderer.Html40RenderingExtension,Microsoft.ReportingServices.HtmlRendering" Visible="false" />
          <Extension Name="MHTML" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.HtmlRenderer.MHtmlRenderingExtension,Microsoft.ReportingServices.HtmlRendering" />
          <Extension Name="RPL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.RPLRendering.RPLRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.RPLRendering" Visible="false" />
          <Extension Name="EXCEL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelRenderer.ExcelRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering" />
          <Extension Name="WORD" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.WordRenderer.WordDocumentRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.WordRendering" />
        </Render>
    When I add the above "TXT" section to RSReportServer.config, then Report Builder (and production) both show an export option "TXT(ASCII,NoColHds)".
    But when I add this "TXT" section to RSReportDesigner.config, and then (in Report Designer / BIDS) attempt to export from a "Preview" of the report, the export drop-down does not show a "CSV" option followed by a "TXT"
    option, but instead shows the "CSV" option twice.
    This simply limits testing of the export option, to Report Builder... or requires any reports be published from Report Designer before they can be tested with
    this export option.
    (FYI, why this export option:  compliance in our industry requires sending data to government agencies, in text files, with fixed-length columns, and ASCII encoding.  Also, we're attempting to give the production of these files to the *users* managing
    communication with those agencies... so we're putting them into SSRS.
    I worked around the fixed length columns (and no delimiters -- no commas), by writing a version of the report where all string columns are padded, and all columns are concatenated, to form ONE LONG COLUMN... but Reporting Services' CSV export format produces
    a Unicode file (UTF-8, which the agency rejected, because it had a leading "", or "EF BB BF" in hex), whereas the agency requires an ASCII file.)

    Hi Doug_atMidway,
    According to your description, you want to enable your custom render extension. Right?
    In Reporting Services, if you want to deploy the custom extension, you just need to add the extension into rsreportserver.config file.  The
    RSReportDesigner.config file stores settings about the rendering extensions available to Report Designer. Since you still use the csv rendering extension in your assembly, we don't need to do any modification in rsreportdesigner.config file. Pleaes
    refer to the links below:
    Thanks for attempting to help, Simon.
    As my question states, I've *already done* both the above:  changed (1) rsreportserver.config and (2) rsreportdesigner.config.  I added the same code, shown above, to both files.  I did that so I could see the new "txt" extension
    both (1) when exporting in production and Report Builder, and (2) when exporting in Report Designer's "preview".
    The change in (2) is not working:  I do not see the "TXT" extension in Report Designer, when I try to export from a preview.  Instead, Report Designer shows the CSV extension repeated.
    Thanks for the docs.  I consulted them (well, I consulted the EQUIVALENT pages, for SQL Server 2008 R2), when creating my block of code above.
    Do you see anything to correct, in my code?
    Are the features I'm using actually working, with rsreportdesigner.config?
    Thanks again,

  • 9iDS Release 2 Report Designer Crashes

    I have had numerous crashes over the past few weeks using this tool. As a background, I now have about 25 reports. Sometimes, I go into each one and "tweak" the report to change parameter sizes, layout, footer, etc. I "hand" edit some of these because I never seem to be able to re-load the template without some error. I don't know the tool very well, but, it's got a lot of great features. If it didn't crash or hang, numerous times, it would be great. One morning, recently, I was trying to update all the reports (22 of them) and print a sample page for my customer. I was ensuring the logo was the right one, the page footer was right, etc. I recieved no less than 10 crashes, forcing a restart of the tool each time. Needless to say, I wasted a lot of time doing that and wasn't able to go through all 22 reports I am running under Windows 2000 SP2 (and also under Windows XP Pro, SP1). This is both before and after applying 9.0.2.0.4 patch. Note, now that I know how to create templates, the logo, footer, etc issues are really not the problem, rather the crashes.
    Sorry for the long list here in one message, but it seems to be large pattern and can be frustrating at times.
    Template "Reapplication" issues:
    1) Reapplying self-made template after only changing font and font size in template to make it smaller: I get a "No column is selected in group 'my group name'. Each report produces a different result, but that's the error message -- actually, I just tested this again. I don't even have to try to open re-apply the template specifically. I open the report wizard and click finish and get this, no matter what I do in the wizard. Is that the only way to reapply the template (especially, since I only want to get the font changes and color changes).
    2) Clicking OK to the above error OFTEN (most of the time), produces "Instruction at 0x64e39295 referenced memory at 0x8b501045. The memory could not be read. In some cases, this happens after I select cancel in the reports wizard, when I received the error #1 above.
    Because I don't understand problem #1 very well and because I frequently receive error #2, I end up opening the "old" report, copying the SQL query, closing the "old" report and generating a new report, using the template and then re-sizing the columns of the report. If someone could help with #1, that would be most helpful. That may or may not prevent the errors below. Most of my reports are "paper and web layout" and "group left" with 2 or 3 levels of groups, if that makes a difference. Also, all of my queries have lexical parameter "where_clause", allowing dynamic augmenting of where_clause.
    3) The pattern of operations is: open old report, Grab SQL, close old report, generate new report via reports wizard, make report look right (fix column widths, make count columns right justified and displayed with "0,0" formatting, insert bookmarks, update user_parameter where_clause (see below) to be 4,000 characters). Save as and pick old name, when complete, save report, close report and open next report. I get through 2, 3 or 4 reports and then I get a crash. There are a two errors that I consistently see:
    a) During open of report: XML Parser failure, then the crash
    b) Unable to load string resource, then crash.
    c) During close of report, The instruction at 0x64af3d4f referenced memory at 0x00001f55. The memory could not be read.
    4) the template has user parameter defined "where_clause" 4,000 characters. I thought the template would supply that, but every time the reports wizard takes my query with the &where_clause, it resets the parameter size to 40 characters. I think that's because I'm seeing the message: Note: the query Q_1 has created the lexical parameter(s) 'where_clause', and I think that's overriding my template because at this point in the wizard I haven't even picked my template.
    5) Alt-tabbing away from Reports back and forth (while creating this message, in fact), I have received the following twice while in reports wizard, after getting the exact text of the lexical parameter dialog mentioned above. The error: "The instruction 0x65134268 referenced memory at 0x00000044. The memory could not be read.
    I hope these issues will be resolved in the near future. This is a great reporting tool, but with these kinds of errors, it's frustrating to use.
    Regards,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    Issue #1 occurs because of the report wizard. When you need to make a change, not the entire report, you should not use the wizard, use the Layout editor instead, in your case you can open the report design in the layout editor to change the font size/color of the fields then run the report and save it.
    The wizard, when invoked, will start the whole new report design and expect new selections for the design, in your case, it expects you to select the fields to be displayed in the group(s) again, that is why you got the error, and I belive this error is the cause to other errors. You can test to see in the wizard, after you apply the new template don't click Finish yet, but go to the Group and Field tabs you will see . Even after you select the fields for the group when you run you will see that the report has new layout which looks completely different from the previous layout.
    Good luck.

    Hi,
    When I log on to Bex Report Designer, I click execute button, it is giving a blank page. It is neither giving any error nor any message. We have recently installed NW2004s and BI Cont 703. Now my problem is how to make report visible in the BEX Report Designer.

    Dear Prakash,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    I have religiously followed your Blog.  As far as I know any one who wanna setup BEx has to follow this.  It is the one place where all the settings related to BEx front end were discussed and disclosed.  Thanks a lot for your exemplary attempt.
    Though you have mentioned about the .NET frame work I could not understand how it will effect the "insert" menu of BEx report designer.  But i have checked that also and its matching with your recommendations.
    My question is pretty simple. With sapgui6.40compilation5 with all the latest patches both for gui, BW and BI. Will i get the options of <i>"Report section", "Report section based on Querry"</i>in the <b>"insert"</b> menu of BEx report designer.
    The mentioned options <i>"Report section", "Report section based on Querry"</i>  were shown in the webnair of BEx report designer.  Pls check the link:
    (As per the SDN these menu items should be available in BEx report designer..Pls observe the Insert menu in the very first few seconds)

    We have installed and upgraded the system to spstack 8 and done all the settings.  Our front end is also updated with the service packs.  But we could not get those options.  If you can give me your mail id i can send you the screen shots.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Can't merge cells in Report Designer

    Hi!
    I use Report Designer.
    I have 3 rows and 5 columns in the Header/Footer.
    I can't merge cells, for example cells from 2nd row, 2-4th columns.
    I need this format:
    AAA | BBB | DDD | EEE | FFF
    ssss | ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff | gggg
    aaaaa| nnnn | mmm | kkk
    What can I do?

    Hi,
        Actually you can merge the Cells in Header and Footer. Just that, I think you have older version of the Report Designer.
    In 7.10 GUI Release there is now an option to Merge and Unmerge Cells in Header and Footer.
    Please check the Report Designer Version from HELP about. It should be atleast 7.1 with Front End Patch level 5 and Above.
    I have the same Issue. My Version of RD which is for Release 2004s it does not work but on another machine with GUI 7.1 it works so check that out.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi Ajay,
    Report Designer is a newly added feature in BI 7. This helps to do cosmetic changes to the report, change the fonts, add colors etc. Please check this link for more info on Report designer.

    Query Designer, is where you develop, edit your queries.
    Analyzer, is where you execute the query and analyze the results.
    Hope this helps.
