About root certificates problem

pls hlp m in this matter:
i hv mistakenly delete (deletable)some authority certificates of my nokia 5300.before that i used to run java application like opera browser,mtorrent etc but after deleting,formating, i am unable to reinstalled those applications again.
i hv updated my nokia 5300 to latest version 7.00,but due to absence of those certificates .i cant installed those program again.do you hv any solutions pls help.

Resettin to factory settings will not restore any deleted files. If updating the software hasn't replaced the missing files, then the phone will need to be re-flashed by a Nokia service point.
This is a valuable lesson in using third-party apps to view the hidden system files of the phone - don't touch anything unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing.

I think the code is ok.
The code work correctly when the computer datetime setting is right.
But when i change the computer to a few year ago,the http request always fualt.
And open the url in ie explorer,and was told the certificate is expire,so i think the problem is all about certificate.
Is anyway can make it work without change the system time?

Problem updating CA root certificates in cacerts file

I've searched all over for this problem, and none of the posting seems to apply
to my situation. Hope this is not a repeat post.
I'm running WLS7 SP2 on W2K AS. I had SSL configured and working properly, until
1/7/2004 came along, of course. I followed the directions in http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsalert/57436
to update the Verisign Class2 and 3 root certificates in the cacerts file without
any problem. I also verified from the WL log that the server is reading the "cacerts"
file located in <bea_home>\server\lib. However, when I pulled up my website using
https://, I still get the "...security certificate has expired ..." message.
Why is my browser not getting the updated CA certificates from WLS?
Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

Is the server's identity certificate issued by Verisign? Have you updated it? Does
the identity certificate chain include the root CA certificate? It might be that
the browser contains the expired certs among its trusted ca certificates, uses
them to complete the chain and then complains about it.

Having problem getting installed root certificate to work

We have a recerse proxy set up with an SSL certificate singed by our local CA. We are trying to connect to this reverse proxy from iPad over 3G connection.
Initially, we received the error "Safari cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server". Reading up on this, realized that we needed to install the CA root certificate as a trusted root on the device.
Got iPhone Configuration utility, set up a configuration profile for the sole purpose of installing the certificate, added the certificate through Credentials section, and assigned the profile to the device. I can see the certificate updated to the device through General>Profiles and can confirm that it IS the root certificate used to general the SSL certificate on the proxy.
Even after application to the iPad (tried on iPhone also), attempt to access our proxy server from the iOS device fails with the same error.
It is interesting to note, that on a personally owned iPad, instead of the error noted, I received a pop-up indicating the certificate was unknown, and I was presented with options to "Cancel, Details, Continue". Clicking on "Details", I was allowed to view the certificate properties, and ALSO had a button to "Accept". Hitting "Accept" installed the certificate as trusted, and I get through the proxy server just fine. Only problem now is that if I *want* to re-create the prompt, I have no way, as I've found no way to remove certificates from the iPad unless installed via configuration profile.
We've checked and double-checked, and the certificates all "line up" to the correct CA.
Any ideas where I night be going wrong?

New clue....
I only have the problem of not connecting to the proxy server if I'm using a 3G connection. If I turn on wi-fi, connect to an access point, the installed root certificates do their job, and I connect just fine.
Anyone know of potential problems with SSL certificates over 3G?

Supersedence problem causing update loop for Root Certificates

Specs: Server 2008 R2, WSUS 3.0, SCCM 2012 R2, Windows 7 Clients/Updates
The issue is with the Root Certificate update from December 2012. The update is not marked as superseded by the November 2013 Root Certificate update. Is this an issue with Microsoft, or with my WSUS server? Is there any way I can remove or decline
the Dec2012 update so that the March 2014 update can take over as the most current update?
I have tried the KB931125 article and all the other resources with these updates, but my problem doesn't seem to be noted in these articles. From what I can find, the update from Dec2012 has not been installed on my WSUS Server.

AFAIK the current situation is this:
"March 2014" was expired by Microsoft on March 17:
The only KB931125 update that still is applicable is the "November 2013" update.
ALL other KB931125 updates should be "Declined".

My System root certificate is not trusted and I cannot open Preferences with my Administrator password.

My computer was hacked three days ago and malware installed. After consultation with Apple Support I reinstalled the OS and all seemed to be well. Today I tried to set some Preferences but my Admin password wouldn't work. I tried to reset it using my Apple ID, to no avail. Checking in Keychain Access I found that under System, my Certificate contains a message: 'This root certificate is not trusted'.

DO NOT install "Avast." I asked about it as a possible cause of the problem, not as a solution.
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

Untrusted root certificates?

So I was browsing my computer today (checking out another problem I'm not so concerned about) and I noticed something. In my Keychain, under "System", I have 2 certificates listed as "This root certificate is not trusted". Both have names starting with com.apple, so I'm less worried, but I'm wondering if other people have these on their systems and if they're normal. I don't know what these things do, so I haven't touched them, and I'm not going to post the full names in case it publishes a possible vulnerability in my computer.

When you go to a secure webpage—for instance, to do online banking—Safari checks the site’s certificate and compares it with certificates that are known to be legitimate. If Safari doesn’t recognize the website’s certificate, or if the site doesn’t have one, Safari will let you know.

How to respond to a certificate warning:
Click Show Certificate, and inspect the certificate for suspicious information.
Look for a message that says, “This certificate was signed by an untrusted issuer.” If you see this message, click Cancel, and do not go to the website.
Click the triangle next to the word “Details.” Check to make sure that the name and organization sections match those of the person or organization that owns the website. If anything looks unusual or is not what you expect, click Cancel, and do not go to the website.
If you continue to the website, double-check the address in Safari’s toolbar to confirm that it is the correct address for the page you want to visit. The address should begin with “https://,” and the name of the website should be spelled correctly. Sometimes fraudulent websites masquerade as trusted websites by changing one or two letters of the trusted website’s address.
Contact the administrator of the website, explaining the problem and requesting more information.
If you continue, the certificate will be stored on your computer, and this warning won’t be displayed again for this website until you quit and restart Safari. If you like, you can remove the certificate later using Keychain Access. For instructions, open Keychain Access and choose Help > Keychain Access Help.

More root certificates in J2SE V1.4?

Will there be more root certificates from CAs in Java 1.4? The current situation is not good. There is nearly no other choice than Thawte. A monopoly is not good.
Currently I have a certificate from www.trustcenter.de. It works perfectly to sign JARs for NS 4.x and CABs for MSIE 5.x. But it fails with NS 6.x and Opera and all other Browsers and JWS that use a Sun JRE. The certificate from trustcenter.de does not cost half as much as one from Thawte and is much easier to get for me (living in Germany).
I e-mailed www.trustcenter.de and they responded that they are willing to support all new technologies for code-signing (wahtever that means)
What is the policy from Sun. Do they think about adding more root certificates to next Java-Versions?
(Asking a user to install one by hand is nearly impossible in the internet, it is only a solution for closed user groups)

Will this work? I think it needs to be in the keystore
of the Sun JRE. The root certifucate of trustcenter.de
is already known by MSIE and NS4/6, but the SunJRE
does only know about the certificates in its own
keystore...the keystore I refer to is the keystore of the JRE. just search the registry and you will find its location. I am making a program to do it now.
Problem: the password of "changeit" is not supposed to be the pwd, but people never "change it." If sun starts requesting people change their keystore pwd when they download, that would be a BIG problem.
I think they will. that will force more people to try certificates, and Sun has a stronger more M$ like position on them since they Hold the keystore. Remember, the JRE will NOT check the M$ keystore anymore, nore the NS keystore. They could EASILY check all 3, but how much you wanna bet they will never?

Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125) Expired

Hi All
Today i wanted to deploy the security updates of the month march 2014 to my production environment.
I noticed that the update "Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125)" is Expired
Strange last week I added this update in our Acceptation environment with no problems.
Someone knows what happend to this update , i cannot find it on the microsoft site

I don't understand what you're trying to say.
Why do you quote that old information from the KB article? It's not really relevant to the update Johan asked about because the December 2012 version of KB931125 is not the same update that was released on March 11, 2014 which then immediately expired.
It's not only the server updates that have been expired this time. It's the Windows 7 update and the Windows XP updates as well. I don't have any other OS versions in my managed environment so I don't know which other OS versions it affects but my guess is
it's expired on all of them.
It would be nice with some real information about why this particular version (March 2014) was recalled.
If there is a problem with it I would like to know what kind of problems I'll be facing on the clients that did install it before it expired.
And if there is a problem with it, will there be an interim fix available? Will a new update be released and if so- when?
Can you please see if you can provide us with some relevant information?

Incorrect root certificate is installed

Since about November, whenever I log onto my Entourage, [version 2008 12.3.2], program to receive e-mail that is associated with my Ip, I get an error message that tells me that Entourage is "unable to estalbish a secure connection to pop-sbc.mail.am0.yahoons.net because the correct root certificate is not installed" - then underneath the error message, is "If you continue, the information you view & send will be encrypted, but will not be secure". Then there is a link for you to click on that states - "More information on installing root certificates...", that directs you to Entourage Help. They offer instructions for installing root certificates on Mac OS X (Tiger), & Mac OS X (Leopard).
FYI - My Ip is ATT-Uverse. My Entourage e-mail account is set up as a POP3 account, & the server is : att.yahoo.net & it is not my default e-mail account. My default e-mail account uses the me.com server.
Resolution offered by "Help" in my Entourage program:
The instructions for Leopard state - "1. Double-click the root certificate to open the Keychain Access application. The Add Certificates dialog box appears. - 2. On the Keychain menus, click login, and then click OK. If the Do you want your computer to trust certificates...dialog box appears, click Always Trust. Note: If you're asked top provide a name & password, type the name and password for an administrator. & 3. Quit and then restart Entourage."
My question in regards to the steps offered is - Where does one find the "root certificate"? When I open the Keychain Access application, I see more than one type of root certificate. Therefore I don't know which one they are referring to. In the Entourage Account settings, there is a category called , "Digital ID", or something like that. I clicked on that category & the current settings show that "none selected" for digital ID's, however when one changes the setting to "select", the certificate that is selected is a certficate for mac.com.
How does one change this setting?
FYI: Everytime I talk with someone from Apple Tech support or from ATT-Uverse Tech Support & tell them my problem, I am referred to a "Third Party Support" Tech. In both cases, I am told that I will have to pay for the Tech Support. I have also been told to contact Microsoft. I was temporaily able to fix the problem in December when the ATT-Uverse Tech Support person told me that I should change the name of the server in the settings of my POP3 account, but within a couple weeks I started receiving the same error message.
Has anyone else come across this problem?

Adobe AIR 3 Performance Issues and Code Signing Certificate Problem

I recently updated to Adobe AIR 3.0 SDK (and runtime) doing HTML/Javascript development using Dreamweaver CS5.5 in a Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).
The AIR app I'm developing runs well from within Dreamweaver. But when I create/package the AIR app and install it on my machine:
1. The app literally CRAWLS running it in my Windows 7 12G RAM machine (especially when I use the mouse to mouse over a 19-by-21 set of hyperlinks on a grid) --- IT IS THAT SLOOOOWWWW...
2. The app runs fine in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 4G RAM, also using the Adobe AIR 3 runtime.
About the Code Signing Certificate problem:
When I try to package the AIR app with ADT using AIR's temporary certificate feature, I get the error message "Could not generate timestamp: handshake alert: unrecognized_name".
I found some discussions on this problem in an Adobe AIR Google Groups forum, but no one has yet offered any resolution to the issue. Someone said Adobe is using the Geotrust timestamping service --- located at https://timestamp.geotrust.com/tsa --- but going to this page produces a "404 --- Page not found" error.

Certificate Problem - Secure Connections Denied

A friend just got her computer back from a loan and now finds that she can't gain access to any secure sites such as webmail. When she tries, she is greeted with the error message
IDENTIFY CERTIFICATE IS NOT YET VALID
UNABLE TO ESTABLISH A SECURE CONNECTION
PROBLEM WITH THE SECURITY CERTIFICATE FROM THAT SITE
I know nothing about security certificates. Any help would be appreciated.

What version of OS X is your friend using? Certificates are referred to by the browsers as indicators of web site safety. If no certificate is present, then an alert message appears prior to the site loading. This gives the user a chance to decide if they want to go any further. Here is a more detailed explanation.l
It's possible the previous user answered "no" to an alert.
Certificates can be viewed, and deleted if necessary, by going to Keychains app. in the Utility folder. On the left panel (at least the Tiger version) you'll see Certificates. Select it, and delete the offending ones.
Also, have her go to the Safari Menu and select "empty cache".
Post back if you require any clarification.

Certificate problem when connection to tomcat

I setup tomcat to use ssl by creating my own certificate.
This works fine using the browser.
But when I try this code from a test program:

I get the error:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:
java.security.cert.CertificateException:
Couldn't find trusted certificate
I exported the cert from my keystore and
imported it into my Trusted Root Certificate Autority
using IE, but I still get same error.
Any advice please?

Solved this by adding the tomcat cert
to <JAVA_HOME>\jre\lib\security\cacerts
1. Export cert from keystore
2. Import cert into cacerts keystore
Then I got an io error about localhost
Solved this by creating the tomcat cert
with the company name as localhost
