About T500 15.4 WXGA TFT Screen

Hi all, I just received a T500. I found the screen is kind of fluorescent. My eyes get tired easily with this screen. I adjusted the brightness, however it didn't help. Is it a usaul problem of this screen model or just a problem of my laptop? How can I adjust contrast of the screen? I could find a button on the keyboard. Any one can help? Thank you!

I didn't find it fluorescent. Instead, the screen seems a little bit yello when the background is in fact white.
You can adjust screen contrustness and brightness in the ATI Catalyst Control Center, whick will pop up when you click the mouse right key on desktop.

The manufacture date of T400 WXGA TFT LCD monitor

I ordered my new T400 in October, 2009, and recived almost three weeks later. Definitely, it took longer time than they promised me. Whatever, I got the laptop, finally.
Now I have a question about the monitor. I used a software named EVEREST 5.30 (http://www.lavalys.com) to check the information of the hardware. Everything is okay except the monitor. It says the manufacture date is 45th week in 2006? Can you believe it, a monitor, potentially, made three years ago for my new laptop???
I called lenovo, and they told me the LCD factory is probably using the same date for all monitors of this kind no matter when they're made. Can you believe it?
They didn't have such complain before. If I can find different case for T400 with same kind monitor, they will accept my complain. Am I responsible to prove that or lenovo's?
Anyway, we can do that, right? Hey, all T400 people, it's time to show our power! What's your manufacture date of the WXGA TFT LCD monitor? I will appreciated if you can post your LCD manufacture data as well as when you bought you laptop! Many thanks to everyone.

My point is that even if the LCD sat for 15 years if it wasn't in use it wouldn't be prone to any more failures then one which is only a year from manufacture with the same amount of hours on it.
Though I don't have intimate knowledge of every laptop which Lenovo has manufactured but I have personally swapped a T61 15.4in widescreen into a T500 15.4in.
It is probable what they are saying is that your laptop screen could not be that old because it is improable one would be in storage for that length.

15.4" WXGA TFT with LED Backlight - What are people's impressions?

I've had my T500 with WXGA TFT LED Backlighting for about a week and I have to say I am very unimpressed.
The Thinkpad works fine but the screen is terrible. Everything on the screen is washed out and videos are pixelated.
I wish i'd never chosen it. I'm considering sending it back to get the non backlit LCD.
What experiences have other users had with it? And for that matter with the standard WXGA?

The 15% restocking fee is Lenovo policy, unless you can negotiate it out with them before you buy. I heard they drop it if you return it and buying something more expensive....
My T500 has the LED panel. Apparently, it is a very recent addition to the options. It is certainly very bright, but it is not appear evenly lit. I blame that on the odd way the panel handles off axis performance, because I can't imagine an LED screen being anything but uniform.
I've since complaining run my Eye-One screen calibrator on it and totally fixed the incredible blue shift in the display (though I knew that could be fixed). I am thinking I can limp by with this laptop while I look for the 'one' that has a decent screen. Then this puppy will be up on eBay. (I wish I hadn't bought upgraded the video card, but maybe some gamer will want that feature)
I started thinking about why I want to take the $175 hit on price and start the search all over again. I'll just use that money to soften the loss of selling it on eBay someday.

TFT screen blinks strange at wake up

Hi folks,
since a few weeks I got strange problem with my TFT screen. My mini is setup to put the monitor to sleep after 20 minutes inactivity. This works flawless. However, every time the screen wakes up it starts with about one minute blinking of 'show proper image' and 'show blank screen'. It is more or less like each second switching on and off. The power LED stays on all the time, so I think it is not the power supply of the TFT.
Connection to the TFT is via DVI cable.
I tried the TFT on a laptop with VGA connection and could not find any issues. In fact I could wake up the screen and than switch back to DVI and the image stayed fine.
I tried the TFT now in my office also with DVI connection, so far no issues here.
This leads me to the assumption that something with my mini is broken. Could it be that the graphics card or the graphic card memory has problems? Is this something that lifetime warranty would cover?
Display is a Samsung Syncmaster 173T about 6 to 7 years old.
Any help appreciated.

Quick update....
I exchanged the screen with a DELL 17" from work and this works flawless. No issues so far.
Strange enough, the Samsung works in the office with the same ease.
I will re-exchange on the weekend and see if the problems comes up again. If not than it was some kind of connection problem. If yes, .... no plan.

I just downloaded the new Firefox 4, rebooted, and viewed you videos re the new look and new features. Problem is, my toolbars look no different than before. The new icons you talk about do not appear on my screen. Please advise. Thank you.

The Firefox icon is the default feature for Windows Vista and 7 only, it does not apply to Windows XP users.
To have the Firefox icon instead of the Menu Bar:
View > Toolbars and UNCHECK the Menu Bar.
After that, click on the Firefox icon and you'll have the Menu Bar appear again.

IBM Thinkpad Standard TFT Screen

Please still provide IBM Thinkpad R series and T series using standard TFT Screen so people still have choice to choose between standard screen or wide screen because many people in Indonesia still like it and always looking for Notebook using standard screen which is now almost notebook producer using Widescreen and never produce notebook using standard screen.My thinkpad T series is Standard Screen 14 inch TFT and i bought in Singapore because in Indonesia they dont sell for standard screen.

You have a hardware problem. It needs to be fixed.
Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.

Your best possibility is to buy an inexpensive utility called Snapz Pro X. It is a screen capture utility that captures still pictures of your computer's screen. It will also capture video and audio. From there you can import into your choice of editing software to do with what you like. Check out http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/

My Laptop's TFT screen are damaged. I enquired the relative staff.Their suggestion is buy a new laptop or buy a deskcomputer moniter because repairing screen is very costly. Is that true? and May I use other brand TFT to replace it?

Try to pick up the information how much it will cost to repair it. If you have this information you can make a decision what you will do.

T500 screen dilema: WXGA TFT, LED vs WSXGA+ TFT, CCFL

Hi guys, planning to buy a T500 in the next few days and I want the best screen possible. In the UK these are the two best options, the price difference is small. I know the benefits of LED screens and that the WSXGA+ has higher resolution but since they have different advantages and dissadvantages it is a hard choice to make.
What are your opinions? Is the higher definition the most important thing or the brightnes and crispness of the LED colours? Which one would you guys get?

Alex, No question, in a 15" bake-off, rez trumps LED backlight. But do you really need 15" WSXGA+? If 14.1" WXGA+/LED (1440x900) is sufficient and available to you in the UK, you may find your solution. Stiil, WSXGA+/CCFL should be fine and LED has limitations, too. --BAM

T500 - Random Shut Down After Screen Unlock

Hi, I have a T500 notebook and when I am away from my desk I lock the screen. Randomly when I come back to my desk and unlock the computer it will shut itself down about 5 seconds after I unlock the screen.
This is now a daily occurance.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 with all updates from the windows update website applied. I also have all the updated drivers and utilities from the Lenovo website. I have read a number of other threads which mention video drivers when playing games, but I am not doing any gaming. This is a work notebook and so I am primarily running outlook and other office applications when the shutdown occurs.
This is really annoying and if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

We get the same Error ("saving your settings") on 20-30 T400 in our Company. We have a open call by LENOVO AUSTRIA. The Technical Engineer from Lenovo has send one referenz Notebook in the LABs to LENOVO International.
We use: Windows XP SP3, Engery Manager, Ultra Nav, Access Connections 5.02.
Newest Drivers, Firmware, BIOS and patches doesn´t help. We has got the error yesterday in the meeting with the LENOVO Technical Engineer with our Image and the newest driver and Firmeware.
We think that the following points can be excluded:
- Intel AMT (deaktivated in the BIOS)
- Akku (Also happend with other Akkus)
- Powersupply (Also happend with differrent Power supplys)
- RJ45 Network Card
- WLAN/Bluetooth/WWAN (Also happend with deaktivatet WLAN - Hardware switch)
Can anybody send me an Windows Eventlog? We could check the eventlogs if we have something in common.
We have turned on the Window extendet Process informations (local group policy) and can find the point where the laptop starts the logoff. But we can´t find the reason. If the PC hangs, the client is reachable per remote and all System Process are correctly runnig. All user tasks an processes are killed. Only the userlogon.exe is running, but no user processes.
Today, i have uninstalled the Power Manager on 6 Notebooks and wait whats happend. The main problem is, that the error occours on ramdom times and without a known reason. We cant readjust the error ;(
Did anyone use McAfee Host Intrusion Pretention ? What configuration and Sofware are you using? Did anyone get this error with Windows Vista?

Difference between WXGA and WXGA-S screen?

when i compare 2 types of X201 i see different screens;
FRU 27R2451 ( Serviceable = No ) WXGA-S
FRU 42T0711 ( Serviceable = Yes ) WXGA
what is the difference between WXGA-S and WXGA? and what does Serviceable=Yes or No?

It's about a part being CRU (Customer Replaceable Unit) or not. There is a good definition of it on page 65 of the manual.
An LCD is not CRU, so a customer should not replace it itself otherwise a problem may not be covered by warranty.

Anyone have any ideas about how to fix the problems with ipod software 1.2? The power was exhausted on my Iphone 5S. I plugged it into my charger and turned it on. The apple icon comes on briefly followed by a blue screen for about 1.5 seconds andf then goes black. What has happened?

Leave the device connected to power for about 30 minutes.
Then, disconnect from power, and turn the device on. If no response, then press and hold both the Home button and Sleep/Wake button down for about 15-20 seconds. Make sure it is not plugged in while doing this.
See what happens.

My iMac 21.5" screen display at login screen only shows about a fourth of the actual screen, and displays in top left corner of screen. Any help?

When i turned my iMac (Lion OS X 10.7.2) on, the lockscreen shows up with about 1/2 to 1/4 of the lockscreen in the top left corner of the screen. It still works but is just smaller and the rest of the screen is black. Ive tried rebooting and theres nothing on the web that has a similar story. Its not a huge problem, it just annoys me sometimes. Its also done this in previous version of the OS its just continuing to do so. Thanks in advance

Maybe some of the solutions in here Troubleshooting issues with video can help.
Especially the SMC- and PRAM-reset and/or the Safe Mode.
