how do u usetab sets in layout sets

Tab spaces are defined in paragraph format.
tab defined in paragraph PS
1st tab    1 CM
2nd tab    5 CM
Ex:PS ,,abc ,, def   "Note: ,, is one tab space..
so ABC print from 1 CM from window start and DEF prints 5 CM from start
Ex:output
    ABC                          DEF

When the about:config setting for swipe are changed to allow changing tabs with swipe it does not repond and performs the default back and forward in browsing history action on the selected window instead of switching tabs. How do I get it to work?

In about:config, the values I changed to for the preference name browser.gesture.swipe.left was Browser:PrevTab and for browser.gesture.swipe.right was Browser:NextTab.
I have the latest synaptics touch pad on my laptop and it supports three touch swipe on windows pcs and on firefox. The about:config setting seem to be specific for MACs and so does not responds to windows changes.

Rant about Tabs (Apex team please read)

I am really, really tempted to go off on a Dennis Miller style rant about 'Tabs'.
I surely hope this part of Apex is extensively "redone" in future versions, as the current implementation is cumbersome at best; inconsistent and non-intuitive at the least.
First, let me thanks Kostya for his blog (http://proskudin.blogspot.com/2007/06/two-level-tabs.html) that helped me stumble through the process of creating something useable with tabs.
Here's some of the problems/complaints I had and a question or two, starting off with a brief overview of my setup.
I have 29 main data pages that can be grouped into 6 logical categories of data, so I needed 6 parent tabs and 35 'standard' tabs.
1. Please redo the terminology used in both Apex and the documentation for consistency and clarity. I would much prefer something like 'Tabset', 'Parent Tab' and 'Child Tab', as it is readily apparent what the hierarchy is.
2. It wasn't apparent at all that in order to create a 'Tabset' and a 'Parent Tab', I had to first create a 'Standard Tab' (Child Tab). This just seems completely backwards. (Maybe I'm just to old).
3. I named my 'Tabset' "Menu" and I called the first 'Parent Tab' "General". Yet after I discovered Kostya's explanation of how to get tabs working correctly, all of my other 'Parent Tabs' had to use "General" as the 'Parent Tab' instead of just referring to the 'Tabset' as the master. By default, when the other 'Parent Tabs' were created (and no way to specify otherwise), they had their 'Parent Tab' set to null.
4. Would #3 above have been different if I created a 'Child Tab' as the first step in creating each 'Parent Tab'?
5. Under "Edit Parent Tabs", my first 'Parent Tab' wound up having the target set as "f?p=330:300:&SESSION.:". All of the other 'Parent Tabs' have the target set as "f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.:::" (with the starting page different for each one). Why the inconsistency here?
6. If I do a 'Shared Components', 'Tab's', 'Edit Standard Tabs', and get the grid listing of all of tabs, and then click the 'edit' icon to make some changes, once I click 'Apply Changes' I am returned to to 'Tabs' screen instead of the 'Edit Standard Tabs' screen that I was last on. This behaviour seems inconsistent.
7. Related to above, there are two different 'areas' (or screens) that are called 'Edit Standard Tabs'. One gives you the grid listing of all of the tabs ('Parent Tabs' and 'Child Tabs'), while the other one is the editing of characteristics of an individual 'Child Tab'.
8. On the 'Edit Standard Tabs' grid listing, it sure would be nice to be able to edit the 'Parent Tab' here, it would save a lot of clicking back and forth.
9. On the 'Edit Standard Tabs' individual tab characteristics screen, it would also be nice to have the previous and next arrows to go the other tabs, like what you get when editing page items. This seems another area of inconsistentcy.
10. Improve the documentation/help with fuller explanations and correct the typos. Two I can remember are (though not exactly where) is one case of a 'the the', and another case (I think on the 'Tab Also Current for Pages' help) that says to delimit page numbers with a colon, yet the example provided uses commas.
11. If you click the 'Edit Parent Tabs', all you get is an abbreviated grid listing of some of the characteristics of the 'Parent Tab'. In order to edit (or see) all the characteristics, you must click "Edit Standard Tabs" (or use the graphical selection) to get the 'Edit' icon and then you can edit all of the properties. This seems to be another area of inconsistency.
I think this covers all of the major problems I had (and it seems that others have had the same/similar problems as well). So in summation, quite a few questions here on the forum could be eliminated if the above were corrected/revised in future versions of Apex.
It seems though that if these were corrected/revised in future versions, there would be a problem with existing apps not migrating to the newer version cleanly, so some sort of 'package' would need to be created to take existing tab information and move the current values around into new fields. This is just an assumption I'm making though based upon what I see in the 'Edit Standard Tabs' grid listing. It looks like this is probably based upon a table/view, so it shows how the inconsistcy between the current terms exists.
Thanks for reading this. I was just so frustrated trying to figure these out that I had to vent. This area of Apex is not consistent with the rest of Apex and very confusing and tedious.

My main requirement of Tabs structure is something like this

Now I want all these Main Tabs (Home,Customer,Retailers ) to be visible
on all the pages in my application. And when I click on Customers it
should take me to A and all the sub tabs (A,B,C) should appear as
subtabs. ( I want the main tabs (Home,Customer,Retailers ) ) to be
retained in these in all the pages. I want similar tab operations in
all pages.
Can anyone give a detailed procedure of how to go about with this in APEX.The terminolgy used is very confusing..

The "about:tabs" message always appears. The close button appears inactive so checking the "don't show this again" option doesn't work.

I am running Firefox 3.6.13 under windows/xp. All of a sudden, when opening a new tab the "about:tabs" message comes up all the time. I checked the box labeled "do not show this message again" but the "close" box seems to be inactive. Pressing it has no affect so apparently the option to suppress the message is not set. The new tab must be closed manually.

I lost several App Icons after install of 3.0 upgrade. Facebook, Tweetie, Birdhouse and a few others are no longer on the home screen, but they do sync through iTunes and I can access them if I move the home screen to the right (to show the spotlight search screen) and I can open them, the icons just won't show up. It is very inconvenient, hope Apple creates a fix for this soon.

Problem: Two Tab Sets for one page

Hello everyone. I have two tab sets and each tab set has one common tab, for example an "About" tab that redirects the user to page 25 when clicked. The tab set works perfectly for the first tab set but when I'm in the second tab set and I click "About" the other tabs change to the first tab set.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem without having to create multiple "About" pages?

My requirement is to have two main windows in the same page. For each line item it is triggering a new page. In the first page both the windows are displayed as expected but in the second page only the first main window (MAIN00) is getting triggered and the second main window (MAIN01) is not triggered.
Output got :

Can't grasp the relation between tab set, parent tab, standard tab set and standard tab

Very novice to apex application building, but after trying to figure the concepts behind the tab sets I'm getting more and more confused about it as I always get different behaviour when changing things.
The documentation is not very clear on this.
Is there someone who can explain this in a comprehensive way?
It would be nice to have a view on the consequences of using these different levels of groupings.
Any help will be dearly appreciated ;-)

One level tab application
Tabsets are used to group standard tabs.
Use full when splitting up the application in different sections. Much like how the apex is split up in the application builder, sql workshop, team developend and administration.
Parent tabs aren't used. And a one level tab application can't be turned into a two level tab application.
Two level tab application
Parent tabs belong to only one tabset "main".
The standard tabset is the connection between the parent tab and standerd tab.
There is one standard tabset for every parent tab.
The standard tabset in the two level application has the same function as the tabset in the one level application.
The standard tabset also determines when a parent tab is current.
When on the page the setting Standard Tab Set is set then the parent tab belonging to that standard tabset is current.
This means that if you change a page form one parent tab to an other you not only need to change the tab settings. But also the settings on the page.
If you still in the position to choose between list or tabs as your main form of navigation I would recommend using lists.
The possibilities with the list templates are greater that with tabs.
Tabs have a maximum of two levels. List don't have such a limit.
If you created your application as a one level tab application you can't turn it in a second level application without some serious hacking.
Clicking on a standard tab submits the page and branch after the computations. This could also be viewed as a pro for tabs because with list navigation your page needs to be accessible by url. Did isn't necessary with standard tabs making them more secure. Parent tabs also use an url to navigate.
Only the standard tabs belonging to the current standard tabset are rendered making a drop down menu impossible.

TextEdit Tab setting

I write just about everything on TextEdit and have tons of documents. The problem I've been experiencing, starting back at some point but too busy to figure out what's going on, is that my TAB setting is changing while I'm typing. I'm an idiot as far as inner workings of anything... like cars.. computer etc etc. I just use it. I have no clue how to set the tab so it doesn't change on me from line to line. I need something like: "TAB SETTING HERE" or "Click here to LOCK your TAB SPACING" but I just don't see it.
Right now it flips between slightly over 3/8" to 1/2" spacings. Sometimes some other weirdness goes on that I can't make rhyme or reason why it's doing what it's doing. It's kinda like spring loaded and I don't know when it gonna go off. All I want is the control so I can make it stop... or perhaps, I suppose, understanding of how it works. What am I doing wrong? I'm thinking pasting types etc from elsewhere is throwing the tab setting off? May be because I intermix bold types etc? I've no clue???

I understand that part.
What's happening is that TAB spacing of every 1/2" somehow changes amid typing to something like 13/32" spacing. I can see the arrows on the top ruler pointing to every 1/2" changing to every 13/32", eg the stuff that needs to be at 1 1/2" mark ends up at 1 7/32" and so on on the next line. Another words I can't lock the tab setting at every 1/2". I don't know what's causing the Tab spacing to change from every 1/2" to every 13/32"...??? How do I get around this problem? I want to be able to past text from other sources without causing havoc to my tab setting... ie if that is the cause of this problem.

and it displays stretch
really far to the right
of the browser...

Well, how good is your html / css? I am not guarantying anything here, but maybe I can point you in the right direction(s).
1a. Do you really need 9+ tabs? How about 2 levels of tabs, so you can have main categories (parent tabs) with sub-categories (standard tabs) Look to amazon.com for inspiration here.
1b. If 2 levels of tabs aren't your cup of tea, how about a "List" for second level navigation?
2. OK, so you don't like my first 2 suggestions and you're a glutton for punishment (and you are really good at html / css, and you have a lot of time on your hands)? You can probably make tabs out of nothing but div's: An outter div to contain the tabs and a div inside for each tab. You'll need to get familiar with (read: beat your head against the monitor for hours on end) the float, clear ,and position css elements and their various attributes. Since browsers don't play by the same rules, you'll likely need to resort to some hacks, such as the voice-family or html>body hack found at:

No, I want you to be clear about what happens. You want to submit the current page (whatever page you're on) and then redirect. So if you're on page 1 and you see tab A, then you click tab A, this submits page 1, saving any form items, then you want to redirect to another app/page, passing some value from session state (maybe a page item value) to P1_EMPNO on the target page. But if you're on page 2 and you see tab A, then you click tab A, this will submit page 2 this time, saving any form items, then you want redirect to another app/page, passing some value from session state (maybe a page item value) to P1_EMPNO on the target page, but you will be passing the same value (or a value derived in the same way) from page 2 to your other application as you did on page 1. And so on for all pages on which tab A is visible.
If this is correct, please confirm. If no, please explain. Then I'll go on.

Tab Set Container - Performance

How do we formally request performance improvements to Xcelsius team? via the forum?
We would like to request that the performance of the tool be improved when using a tab set container.
Created 5 tabs, each contain data. We noticed that this is slow upon upload which makes it
pretty unusable for our purposes.

Seconded. That feature is not very useful in its current state unless you are working with very small projects. Is it going to be addressed?
Although I have no knowledge whatsoever about whether or not the performance will be improved in a Fix Pack or Service Pack, I would recommend not holding your breath and switch over to using Dynamic Visibility instead. Not nearly as easy to work with for the developer, but the end users would not know the difference.

I have tabs set to open a blank tab, but now each new tab has google search on it.

I don't have google selected as a search engine - I won't use google. I have tabs set to open up a blank tab each time. I want a blank tab, without the google search bar.

The default for the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference is '''''about:newtab'''''. The 3x3 grid of previously viewed webpages can be hidden by using the "Grid" button in the upper-right corner; but as of Firefox 31 a "search container" appears, which isn't hidden via the "Grid" button.
Changing the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference to '''''about:blank''''' should give you a completely blank page when opening a new tab.

Associate 2 Standard Tab Sets to the same application page

Can you associated 2 Standard Tab Sets to the same application page and only have one of the Standard Tab Sets display based on an item value on that application page?

to my knowledge you can't do that, because you can only assign one tab set with the page property "Standard Tab Set".
But how about just creating one tab set where you conditionally display the tabs which are matching?

Unique prob - often when I R-click a link in a page, FF goes "Not Resp" for up to 2 min - S/times crashes, or Re Starts with stalled tab set last on task bar.

Unique prob - often when I Right-click a link in a page, FF goes "Not Resp" for up to 2 mins, then most often Re Starts with the stalled tab set (of the window that I clicked in) moving to last place on the browser task bar. Roughly 1 in 5 times when it happens, FF crashes. Done copious searching here & elsewhere & it would appear this is unique, as I can't see this exact problem mentioned. I have the latest FF version & assume all add ons update at that time or auto do so, (all set to default). Have also updated to latest "flash / shock wave".

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
