About the domain of virtual host

Hi all,
Is it applicable for the EBS instance using the virtual host
which domain is different from the one of the physical host?
I found that the domains of the physical host and the virtual host
are same in the descriptions from many materials.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Wang

Hi,
You can refer the specific installation guide for the minimum disk space requirement.
Whatever functionality you use you need minimum space as mentioned in the installation guide.
You can configure slightly more memory than given in the installation guide to be safer.

  • How to create and access a Virtual Host on the J2EE WAS?

Hello, I have searched through the Forums and help.sap.com and found a lot of information on how to set up a Virtual Host on the J2EE server but am having issues with it working.
The goal is to provide a simple virtual host on the J2EE Portal server to host some static image and HTML files. Previously I had stored these files in the standard publicly accessible SAP J2EE folder location /usr/sap/<SID>/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/serverx/apps/sap.com/com.sap.engine.docs.examples/servlet_jsp/_default/root/. This location is resolved to when using the URL <host>:50000 for example.
The main issue here is that during Portal support pack applications this folder gets wiped out and we have to remember to save off any custom files and folders in this location and replace them.
I would like to create a virtual host to store these static files (i.e., branding-image.jpg, etc...).
I have run through the process of creating the virtual host both using Visual Administrator and <host>:50000/nwa but am not able to get the virtual host name to resolve properly.
The following are the steps that I have taken. Let's assume the standard SAP portal (i.e., xSS, etc...) is running properly on <host>:50000.
    1. create virtual host via Visual Administrator/NWA called 'sapwebserver1' by using the Create Host option (takes on the attributes of the 'default' standard virtual host)
    2. change the root directory for this virtual server to a custom folder at E:/tmp/mimes (where E:/usr is where the J2EE files are all installed), no start files were set up and nothing else was changed in the new virtual host record, no permissions were changed on the /tmp/mimes folder from whatever the default Windows user permissions are normally set, I am using a local Windows  administrator account but I have not seen any reference in the help files or the examples that indicate that any specific permissions updates need to be made on the virtual host root folder
    3. restarted the J2EE server as well as the HTTP Provider service
    4. before updating the company DNS, I wanted to test this locally on the server and so have updated the server's local HOSTS file with a <host IP address>   sapwebserver1 entry
    5. from that server I can ping the sapwebserver1 virtual host name and it resolves properly to the machine's physical IP address
According to all of the documentation and examples I have seen I should now be able to (from that server) launch a browser and access the static files in the virtual host by referring to http://sapwebserver1:50000/branding-image.jpg for example. This is not working and the browser just brings up a Cannot display the web page error in IE. By referring to the virtual host name sapwebserver1:50000 it's supposed to hit the J2EE server and based on the host name sapwebserver1 realize that it should resolve to the root directory E:/tmp/mimes. This is not happening. Just as a test I have created a copy of the 'default' virtual host and called it sapwebserver2, updated the local HOSTS file for this entry, and tried to see if that would work like the 'default' host. My expectation was that http://sapwebserver2:50000 would behave the same was as http://<host>:50000 but it too fails to resolve just like the sapwebserver1 virtual host refernce.
Would anyone happen to have any pointers on what to do next? I just want a simple virtual host to be able to serve up some static images and files.
Thanks for any insight or assistance you might be able to provide here.
    Graham

This defeats the purpose of trying to centralize SAP-related web resources on the SAP server. Typically IIS/Apache or other non-SAP servers are under the control of IT and not the SAP BASIS group.
We simply would like to have a centralized location to store static web files so that they are not overwritten during Portal support pack applications.

  • Oracle VM 3 - only one virtual host accessible from the network (DELL R410)

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle VM 3.0.3 and created the network for Virtual hosts. After installing two systems on the server only one is accessible from the network at a time. The second one is not.
Have no idea how e to enable the second host to reach a network.
    Maby You have some idea?
    Thanks,
    Jarek

    Hello!!
I'm not an expert but /OVS/Pool should be the directory naming of OVM 2.x, replaced by /OVS/Repositories/REPOS_ID in OVM 3.x
The "wierd directory name" it's the unique ID that OVM assigns to Repository, infact if you go to VM Manager in Repository tab and edit your current repository you will see this ID: 0004fb0000030000839f2d2faa5014c3
Under "0004fb0000030000839f2d2faa5014c3" folder, as you noticed, there are the classic folders ISO, VirtualDisk, VirtualMachine, etc. where files are placed.
I've never tried to import a pre-packaged template from Oracle but I would try importing it as an assembly from http/ftp! ;)
    Hope this helps.

  • What's the difference between the notion of virtual hostname and of host name

              Hi everybody,
Sorry for this stupid question, but I don't see the real difference between the
notion of virtual host managed by WLS and the notion of host names managed by
a DNS. With the admin console of WLS, I can create a virtual host, e.g. www.toto.com
, and associate it with a WLS cluster for example. But with the DNS, I must also
bind 'www.toto.com' to the list of WLS servers contained in the cluster above
in order to be sure that WLS can make load-balancing. (See WLS clusters documentation).
Can somebody show me an example of the use of virtual hosts and hostnames, which
can help me to understand the differnece between?
              Thanks for your help

              HI
Basically Name Based Virtual Hosts are helpful to give multiple names to be tied
to a single IP Address rather than IP Based Virtual Hosting. In your case if your
virtual host name www.toto.com which basically served by the weblogic cluster
instances need to be configured by DNS server so that using this technique many
different hosts can share the same IP address. We need to configure DNS server
to map each host name to the correct IP address.

  • Virtual Hosts - I'm lost!

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get MySQL, phpMyAdmin and virtual hosts set up on my MacBook Pro. I finally paid a computer science student $100 to do it for me, and he botched it, so I'm now going back to square one.
My websites are located in /Users/username/sites/. I've modified the httpd.conf, hosts and NetInfo files, and I can now preview the home page of ONE of my virtual host sites. The problem is that I see the page whether I type http://localhost/, http://Geobop/, http://GW/ or http://GS/ into my browser. It should preview only at http://Geobop/.
I rediscovered the article Enabling Virtual Hosts on MacOS X at http://www.evolt.org/article/EnablingVirtual_Hosts_on_MacOSX/18/13138/
and added a script to my httpd.conf file, as follows:
    # Leave this one alone - it makes sure that localhost works.
    <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
    DocumentRoot /Library/WebServer/Documents
    ServerName localhost
    </VirtualHost>
    #<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80>
    # ServerName geobop
    # ServerAdmin [email protected]
    # DocumentRoot /Users/MYNAME/Sites/Geobop
    #</VirtualHost>
If I understand correctly, this is supposed to make http://localhost/ display something unique, rather than a local website. However, all the URL's I cited above still display the same thing...but this time around they display blank pages with columns of numerals along the left margin.
In an earlier experiment, I deleted all my virtual hosts from httpd.conf. Then all these URL's displayed the following:
    Index of /
    Name Last modified Size Description
    [DIR] Parent Directory 13-Mar-2007 15:49 -
    [ ] index.php 06-Oct-2006 15:36 1k
    [ ] php5.fcgi 06-Oct-2006 18:18 1k
    [ ] phpMyAdmin-2.9.0.2.tar 06-Oct-2006 17:44 11.4M

    [ ] phpinfo.php5 06-Oct-2006 18:20 1k
Apache/1.3.33 Server at localhost Port 80
Can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it? If I can get Apache and my virtual hosts squared away, then I'm going to try to get MySQL and phpMyAdmin back up and running.
    Thanks.

I don't know much about it, but I do have two comments since it does not sound like a virtual hosts problem.
    1) Netinfo Machines will not work by default. You will need to configure lookupd to give Netinfo priority over DNS:
    lookupd -configuration
    The default configuration will be:
LookupOrder: Cache FF DNS NI DS
    configname: Host Configuration
What you need to do is configure lookupd to give NI priority over DNS. Here is how it should look:
LookupOrder: Cache NI FF DNS DS
To do this, use commands like this, you will need to have root access enabled:
    su
    lookupd -configuration
    cd /etc
    sudo mkdir lookupd
    cd lookupd
echo LookupOrder Cache NI FF DNS DS > hosts
    reboot
    lookupd -configuration
After rebooting, your lookupd order should put NI in front of DNS. Now you can make entries in the "machines" column to your local domains.
    2) MySQL is not installed, however a socket is configured so yeah it's a little confusing. You have to go to the website http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html and scroll down to OSX. Just ignore the pesky questionnaire screen before the download page.

  • Virtual hosts in apache defaults to first host

On my MacMini I have set up apache to use virtual hosts I and use a mounted USB drive to host the sites (in my case /Volumes/Work1/www as root). I have configured 3 sites and switch on the subdomain (in my case and in order in the virtual hosts file: hbc1.helsted.net, consulting.helsted.net, store.helsted.net).
On the MacMini I have inserted the urls in the hosts file to point at localhost for two of the entries and all work beautifully on the MacMini for those two. Anywhere else (and from the MacMini on the one not in the hosts file) the system defaults to the first entry in the virtual hosts config file (as the documentation says it will if the url is not recognized) which is displayed in the browser and which has entries in the log file.
After some time the server occasionally refuses to serve the pages and I get a 403 error (access denied). Again not on the MacMini with the hosts file entries. Looking at the error log from apache in that case it appear that it has got the full url served as it is in the log file.
Restarting the web share removes the 403 error (until next time).
Any hints on how to to resolve my two issues?

Thanks for the reply, my vhosts config file contains the following (note that the viewer in the forum browser removes the initial #es on the comment lines):

Can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it. This process was three times easier on my PC, though I hate Microsoft.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your explainations but it keeps frustrating me. I'll try to give an exact overview to my settings and my tries to implement your suggestions:
    Computer name: MacBook Pro
    Host: server.local
Wi-Fi: 192.168.178.100 (static, as I said no DHCP)
    DNS-Settings:
    Forwarding Servers: 192.168.178.100
Perform lookups for only some clients: "The server itself" and "Clients on the local network"
    Host name: server.local
    IP address: 192.168.178.100
    (no aliases)
automatically created after setting this host name:
         Primary zone: server.local
Machine: zone: server.local, host name: server.local, IP address: 192.168.178.100
         Nameserver: zone: server.local, Name-server: server.local
Now I create a new host:
    Host name: thenewwebsite.site
    IP address: 192.168.178.100
    (no aliases)
automatically created after setting this host name:
         Primary zone: thenewwebsite.site
Machine: zone: thenewwebsite.site, host name: thenewwebsite.site, IP address: 192.168.178.100
         Nameserver: zone: thenewwebsite.site, Name-server: thenewwebsite.site
    Now going to "Web" service:
    hit the [+] button
    domain-name: thenewwebsite.site
--> and it gives me the red bullet again saying it could not resolve this and trying to load "thenewwebsite.site" from the browser consequently fails.
I also tried to set the machine-zone and the nameserver-zone for the thenewwebsite.site host to server.local - didn't changed anything, loading "thenewwebsite.site" fails.

  • How to set up Virtual Hosts in Apache (OS X Server 10.9)

I want to host more than one website on my mac mini with OS X Server 10.9
1.) I edited /etc/apache2/httpd.conf for uncommenting the include line:
    # Virtual hosts
    Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
    2.) I edited /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf and added:
    <VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName cammino-al-dente.net
        ServerAlias www.cammino-al-dente.net
        DocumentRoot "/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/cammino-al-dente.net"
        ErrorLog "/private/var/log/apache2/cammino-al-dente.net.com-error_log"
        CustomLog "/private/var/log/apache2/cammino-al-dente.net-access_log" common
        ServerAdmin [email protected]
    </VirtualHost>
    <VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName sutterer.net
        ServerAlias www.sutterer.net

        CustomLog "/private/var/log/apache2/sutterer.net-access_log" common
        ServerAdmin [email protected]
    </VirtualHost>
3.) then I edited /etc/hosts/ to spoof my IP address to the domains:
    127.0.0.1
    localhost
    127.0.0.1
    cammino-al-dente.net
    127.0.0.1

    broadcasthost
    ::1
    localhost
    fe80::1%lo0
    localhost
    Then I restarted Apache...But nothing happens :-(
I could reach my website cammino-al-dente.net only by using the Server Default-entry, chancing the entry to my cammino...-folder
    Regards

In the /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf file check this line exists:
    NameVirtualHost *:80
This solve same issue for me.

  • Problem Virtual Hosts phpmyadmin

I’ve been using WAMP for testing purposes for about one year now.
Recently I purchased Dreamweaver CS5, and the Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP book from David Powers.
According to the instructions in this book, I’ve set up a couple of virtual hosts so it is possible for me to work with site relative links. So far so good, the virtual hosts works.
But now I can’t get to phpmyadmin through the WAMP icon and get the 404 error.
The Alias for phpmyadmin ( standard configuration in WAMP) seems not to be working anymore.
I’ve no idea if an alias will function with the use of virtual hosts.
A pity that David Powers doesn’t tackle this problem in his book as well.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Without creating new problems as for example no connection with the database! I’ve been searching the web for a couple of days now, so any help is more than welcome.

While googling "apache virtual host phpmyadmin" I stumbled across this possibly helpful thread on the sitepoints.com forums.

  • Multiple virtual host impacting performance

Is there a performance issue with relation to the number of virtual hosts
which one server is hosting? If there is, how many can an average server
handle before one would see a performance hit?
    Thank you.

Web is stupidly easy - Apache has extensive support for multiple virtual hosts in a single server and will happily support as many domains/hostnames as you can throw at it.
Mail is a little trickier since it needs to hook into some kind of directory server to validate user addresses.
Mac OS X's Open Directory does support this, but it's a little cumbersome (basically every user has to exist in the main Open Directory domain as well as having a secondary email address(es) in the other domain(s).
This can get especially tricky when you have users with the same shortname in different domains - for example if you give [email protected] a secondary email address of [email protected] and you then get a new user [email protected], you can't give the third 'joe' the address 'joe' in Open Directory since that's already taken. This means he'll have to login using different credentials from his email address. Confused yet? You bet.
If you're prepared to eschew Open Directory you can just use Postfix's built-in support for virtual hosting, but it's a little more complex to setup and support and is entirely command-line based (i.e. there's no GUI for setting it up or supporting it).
So, for that reason you might be prepared to setup multiple virtual machines for each domain. It really depends on how much the domains are related (if at all).

  • Accessing portal server with virtual host via web dispatcher

    Hi,
I have portal installed at http://hostname.com:50000. A web dispatcher is installed in front of it which uses port number 80 and redirects to http://hosname.com:50000.
so when i say http://hostname, my web dispatcher redirects to http://hostname.com:50000/ from where i can access my portal.
now I want to create an alias for my hostname, say when user types http://mydev, it should redirect to http://hostname.company.com thru webdispatcher.
so i created virtual host for my portal server . how to use this in my virtual hosts in my webdispatcher.

P.S: I dont want to create a DNS alias with name mydev, then i think virtual host concept doesnt make sense, atleast in java engines..which has different concept in SAP systems.

    HI Jacob,
Thank you for the reply.. I am little bit confused.could you please clarify the followint to me.
My requirement is when user types "http://epdev", it should redirect to http://hostname.company.com:50000
    1. To do that, according to what you said, I will create a DNS alias epdev to the IP address where my portal is hosted. so when the user types http://epdev, I have set up a parameter in web dispatcher profile to redirect to http://hostname.company.com:50000/.. so my requirement is fulfilled now..I hope this the correct proc for what I intended to achieve. am I right?
    2. As said above, I am using web dispatcher only for redirection to a fully qualified name, as portal requires as fully qualified domain name. Is there a possibility other than web dispatcher for redirection.
    3. if the above procedure works, I got a question like..what is the use of "virtual hosts".
How is it different from creating for instance, creating as many DNS aliases to IP address.
Although, it was explained at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/0b/fbf5a47928f84e8d0beba8371508e6/frameset.htm
    I didnt clearly understand it.
I would really appreciate, if you could clarify these to me.
    Thank you

  • Http tunnelling not working with virtual host

    Hi,
We have recently migrated our application from OC4J server to the Weblogic 11g server. There is one EJB client module which connects using t3 protocol. We are trying to use Http Tunneling for it. The server setup consists of two machines (machine1.global.com and machine2.global.com) in clustered mode. A virtual host cbs.global.com is configured to load balance across the above 2 two machine. Also Apache HTTP Server plugin is used for handling the web tier.
For enabling tunneling, we have checked the 'Enable HTTP Tunneling' check box in the server. Also in the Httpd.conf file, we have added a block for
    <Location /HTTPClnt>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    </Location>
If we give the initial context url as http://machine1.global.com:7005 or http://machine2.global.com, then it is working fine. But when we give the virtual host names - http://cbs.global.com or http://cbs.global.com:7005, it is not working. This application needs to be accessed outside the company network, so we cannot directly give the machine names and have to make it work using virtual host.
Please advise whether any other settings need to be done for enabling the tunnelling for virtual hosts.
Highly appreciate your help in this regard.
    Best Regards,
    Jaison

  • Virtual Host Mail Accounts Not Working

Hi. I have attempted to search the discussions for an answer to this, but haven't had much luck.
I have one server running 10.5.8. This server hosts 4 domains, 1 main and 3 virtual. Each domain needs an [email protected] email address. I have created a user in WGM named info and have created the short names for each domain: info (I assume the local domain short name doesn't need the domain.com added), [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] I have entered the 3 virtual hosts in Server Admin-->Mail-->Settings-->Advanced-->Hosting-->Enable Virtual Hosting section.
The issue is that when I configure Mail for each of the accounts, they are being treated as though they are aliases and not virtual host accounts. In other words, each account sees the exact same mail. When I check Server Admin-->Mail-->Maintenance-->Accounts I do NOT see the three additional virtual host accounts, so clearly they are not being created.
This same server is also the mail server, so each domain's DNS MX record is pointing to this server. Like I said, I can send and receive mail, but it goes to all the accounts simultaneously (as aliases would) rather than individually.
I've scoured the documentation, but cannot seem to find what I have missed here to prevent this from working as it should.
Does anyone have experience with a successful deployment of a situation similar to this one?

I do, indeed, have the addresses set up for one user, as you have ascertained. I suppose that I will alter the setup in the manner in which you describe. What is completely perplexing to me is that if you review Apple's documentation just after the section after describing Mail Forwarding (~pg. 37) you will see that Apple is saying I can set it up the way I have. Directly from the text as follows:
Virtual hosting is a method you can use to host more than one domain name on the
same computer and IP address, with overlapping mail user names.
For instance, a mail server can receive mail transfer requests for two domains,
mail.example1.com and mail.example.com, both of which resolve to the same IP
address. For mail.example1.com, the server would deliver mail to “[email protected]
to a user mailbox for “bob,” while it would also deliver mail to “[email protected]” to
a different user mailbox. Virtual hosts are essentially the converse of local host aliases.
Again, I state that if this is to be true, then I should have the ability to assign one Open Directory account and give that account the four addresses as above with each having a separate user mailbox. The way it is behaving now is like aliases, not virtual hosts as Apple describes.
I'd love to understand why this is the case, perhaps I'm completely misunderstanding the text.
Thanks again for the help, I'll just create 4 accounts, easy enough.

  • Domain name and hosting provider

Can anyone recommend a good domain name and hosting provider (preferably based in Australia if possible) that I can use to set up my customers' websites? I'm with Domain Central and ready to hang myself. I've been with them for 3 years and decided to stay because it was just too hard to leave, but if I could find something better I'd be out of there. The interface is the most confusing, erronious, complex, slow, antiquated and difficult piece of software I've ever known and the help documentation in way relates to what is actually there.
I have a reseller account with them, which means I buy the domain name and hosting space at about half the price that it would normally be, make a small profit on it, and still pass on a good rate to my customers.  Domain Central is cheap, but after this latest fiasco, I've wasted so much time on Help desk it's not worth it. I want a provider that has an easy to use, straightforward website, so I can sign up for some sort of reseller account, buy the domain name and hosting at a discounted rate, do the name servers and all that stuff myself and even set up email accounts without too much grief and suffering.
Any advice would be so appreciated. What do other web designers do? I've come to the point of having a hollow feeling of dread when I log in to Domain Central : (

I'd recommend heading over to www.webhostingtalk.com .  You'll get a better and faster response.  But you will need to be more specific for them with your needs.  The registrar part is simple, but the hosting you should add in what type of plan you think you are looking for (reseller, VPS, dedicated), how much space/bandwidth you require, environment (Unix vs Windows), database/scripting information, etc., etc.
