  • Apple TV Will It Work On A 24inch iMac Computer?

I Posted This in The Wrong Forum I Hope Someone Will Delete The Other? its in The iMac Forum, If I Ever Wanted To Buy Apple TV? Will it Work with a 24inch iMac Computer? or just a Certain Kind of TV Monitor? Cause when i go to The Apple Computer Store I See they have it on a Really Big TV Monitor do i really have to Buy that kind of Sized TV Monitor? instead of Using it on a 24inch iMac Computer? I Don't Go To The Apple Store A Lot, but I Was Just thinking of it cause i Notice They Have That.

It will connect to a TV or monitor with either HDMI or component inputs.
It is mainly designed to be used with HDTV's.
It won't work with an iMac's monitor.
    Some monitors have HDMI inputs.

  • Can't get on the internet with my new Imac.

My new Imac arrived yesterday. It has Tiger installed and a Leopard disk in the box. I had already downloaded my usb broadband modem's drivers for Tiger 10.4.5 from my Isp and thought it would be a simple matter to install them. No chance! They won't work. It's running Tiger 10.4.10. The modem doesn't sync up and the computer says it doesn't exist. Then I had the bright idea of upgrading to Leopard and using Boot Camp to install Windows XP. Big mistake! I've only got an ancient XP upgrade disk and you need a full SP2 one. But of course I didn't find that out untill I'd put the disk in the superdrive. So now it's stuck in there. Every time I switch the computer on it just boots into the windows setup. Pressing F3 just reboots it into Windows setup. Does anybody know how I can get that cd out of my drive? And how do I get on the internet? My usb modem and it's driver works fine on an old powerbook running Panther.

    Hello again Nevertheless,
Probably! - Possibly! Almost certainly! Hmmm...
Belkin equipment has caused more problems than it had solved ( in my experience only )
Netgear equipment has solved all the problems I have, so far, encountered.

It's easy. It works and I DONT work for them.
    Regards once more.

  • Can't connect to the internet with an old iMac (OSX 8.6)

My friend has a very old iMac, running OS X 8.6, that isn't connecting to the internet. It is connected directly to an Embarq (Zyxel) 660 DSL modem. The modems lights are are all lit, including the ethernet light. I've set the TCP/IP settings to DHCP, but I can't get into the modem to find out what the DNS is. I've tried using Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator to access the internet but it keeps telling me that the TCP/IP needs to be configured and activated. I've tried restarting the iMac after saving the TCP/IP settings, and have tried restarting the modem.
Can somebody give me a solution? or a way to configure the iMac to view the internet?

Mac OS 8.6 enables the Ethernet connection when you start an Internet application like Internet explorer.

I connected my Mac OS 8.6 machine via an Ethernet cable to my Verizon DSL modem. I used DHCP. I got back the DNS address. I was successful in getting Google to come up in Internet explorer.

I suggest you try to find another computer and connected it to the DSL modem. This way you can verify that the connection works. You could try and find yourself a router and use it as an intermediary.
You could try to configure the connection manually. You would have to figure out the router address and DNS address. The DNS Server addresses for Open DNS are at.

  • Why am I receiving a notice to update my version and then not able to click on it? It also prevents me from entering the internet if I put my computer to sleep with this update box there!

The box appears after I'm on the internet. It's on my desktop when I go to shut down my computer and after I've shut down the internet. When I click on the x it doesn't disappear. When I click on the box indicating Yes, I'd like to update my version of Firefox it does nothing. If I leave this box there and put my computer to sleep it stays on and actually prevents me from entering the internet! I need to restart my computer or shut down! My computer is a MacBook Pro and is only one year old .

They have to know who the person is who has their account set up wrong?   Do you know who they are or how to identify them?
if not, how do you expect Verizon to find which user that is?
Best thing for you to do is set up a mail filter and just throw those into the trash or delete them the second they come into your email box.

  • What about the internet temporary files?

Hello! I'm a quite new to Mac and I would like to know if, as I used to do with my old Windows, there is the need to do some 'spring cleaning' and deleate the internet temporary files. I can't bear the idea of collecting files but also I don't know where the settings are for the span of time the computer collects these files.
    Thank you. flpd
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi flpd welcome to Mac!
    Cookies:
In Safari go to 'preferences' and then click the tab under 'security' - you'll see that you have options for cookies. You can view them, delete individual ones or remove them all.
    Cache:
Safari stores pages in it's cache. You can clear this by clicking 'safari' and 'empty cache'. You also have 'Reset Safari' that clears the cache, passwords, history, cookie and a few more other bits. Be advised though that Safari runs slower for a while immediately after you've cleared it.
There's also a program called Onyx that is free and very useful. The hyperlink's below:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
You can adjust the speed of Sarafi, run maintenance scripts and clear your user, system and kernel caches. Again, on initial boot up after emptying these caches your system will temporarily run slower until it builds up the caches again.
However the maintenance scripts are really good at keeping your system in tip top condition - just make sure that your computer is on (not asleep) as the scripts wont run.
    Hope this helps

  • Why does my firefox switch to offline mode by itself, while i was browsing the internet?? is my computer hacked?

This has happened many times, with no apparent reason, i.e. when i tried to refresh a web page, or open a website, i got message to say that firefox was in offline mode (note, the internet had been working normal up to this minute), then i went to the File menu and I'd find that the "Work Offline" option had been ticked (but i did Not change any settings at all)
Btw, i am using Mac OS, and all the software are up to date.

Not hacked or such but if your connection should drop it could trigger Firefox to go offline.
For Firefox 3.5.* and 3.6.* users add this preference. Not needed if using Firefox 4.0.* as it is there and set to false by default.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website#Work_Offline_Setting
Just type '''about:config''' in location (address) bar
Right-click on the '''about:config''' page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: '''network.manage-offline-status'''
    Value: '''false'''

  • Recently a software update 7.1 presented itself on my phone. Since attempting to download it, I have lost the ability to search the internet while away from my computer. As well I can't call an one. And they can't call me. The 7.1 update keeps popping up.

Since attempting to download the latest update of 7.1. the download confirmation showed a pop up saying; unable to install. Can't re attempt to install. Lost internet ability when away from computer and I can't be called, nor can I call anyone. Please, can anyone help me with this? I'll even go back to what I had, had before attempting the 7.1 download.

Sounds like your only able to use Wifi on your device currently which indicates you have lost network connection with your cellular provider ....you can call them to troubleshoot this but one common issue in some countries is that if you are on a 3G only network this can become turned off after a software update...go to settings > cellular/mobile > and see if enable 3G  or enable 4G/LTE is off or on try turning it on and then power off phone and on again and this will probably fix it, so you can make calls etc and use the internet away from the computer.  As for the update always do an itunes backup first and they make sure you have long enough for this update to run through on wifi and then try it again.  Good Luck

  • Can't connect to the internet with my wired desktop computer or my wireless laptop!

When hooked up like this I lose my internet connection on my desktop computer as well??? I'm confused??? What could be causing this??? • I can't access the internet with Firefox on my computer (Windows 7 PC). I have used Firefox as my browser for 1 year but 5 days ago it stopped working even though Internet Explorer worked fine. I can't solve the problem and need some help.Randy Brown

    September 26, 2011
    Dear Mozilla,
I am having some difficulty accessing the internet with Firefox on one of my PC computers. I normally use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser and google is my homepage and gmail is my email system. The operating system is Windows 7. For over a year this system worked perfectly but a few days ago it stopped working. When I launch Firefox now I get the message that that website (www.google.com) is unavailable. In fact, I can’t access any website and I am blocked from the internet entirely within Firefox. My internet connection is fine because Internet Explorer works fine. I can access google and any other website within that web browser. I have investigated all the security issue I can manage and found no smoking gun. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to no avail. Is Windows 7 compromising the effectiveness of Firefox? Any suggestions or other assistance you can offer would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Randy Brown

  • A few questions about the internet & Wi-Fi

i am getting a ipod touch for christmas, but i need to know a few things first.
how does the internet work? is it on Wi-Fi? where do you need to be to connect to Wi-Fi? like, can you get a reciever, or whatever, to put in your house, or do you have to go to an airport or some place that has Wi-Fi to be able to use it? if you can use it in your house, where do you get a reciever thingy from?
okay well thank you if you answer my question(s).

this is the one i have
    http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRT150N-Wireless-Router-4-Port/dp/B000MANHJE/ref=p dbbs_sr1/104-8142157-7722356?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1193967317&sr=8-1
i like linksys best, but belkin makes routers too. also if you went with the wireless G router instead of the wireless N it might be cheaper but you'd lose some speed (i think). i know its a pain in the butt to buy this stuff to connect. i remember when i bought my mini i spent 4 hours screwing with it before i had to run to best buy at 10 pm and buy windows XP!

  • SSH over the Internet to connect to iMac

I have an iMac 10.5.2 at home behind Airport Extreme Base Station. I would like to know what command to use to connect the iMac from outside the network. The cable modem is just that and not a router. Currently my settings are setup to have the Airport distribute IP addresses. Port 22 is open and Remote Login is set in the Sharing Pane. If there is anything else I am missing please let me know. Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm having the same problem as well. I have the Airport Extreme and I've configured the port mappings to port 22, open the ports on the imacs firewall and even then I can't establish a connection on my LAN, much less from outside of it.
