About the MacBook Pro 13'3 Keyboard Backlight

I am a new macbook pro user.
about the Keyboard backlight. it is off now.
how can i ON it again? it will be on automatically by the sensor??

The ambient light sensor (in the top of the display beside the iSight camera) controls the KB backlight as well as the display brightness, if you have the appropriate boxes checked in the Displays and Keyboard panes of System Preferences. You can refine the KB brightness manually using the F5 and F6 keys when the KB backlight is on, but when the sensor judges that there is enough light so the backlight isn't needed, you won't be able to turn it on at all — unless you install [Lab Tick|http://labtick.proculo.de>, which provides complete manual control of KB backlighting.

  • What is so "Pro" about the MacBook Pro?

"Pro" is short for professional and the Apple brand has been synonymous with creative professionals for at least 20 years... I know, asI am one of them.
Now, the MAC PRO (tower) is no doubt, a professional grade machine. With 4 hard drives, 2 DVD drives, 4 expansion bays, 5 USB ports and 4 Firewire ports, and a whopping 128GB RAM, I'd say it lives up to the name "Pro". This machine IS the industry standard in film editing, recording studios, graphic design, ect... The one catch, is that it's not portable...
In come the MAC BOOK PRO. It's lightweight and has excellent battery life which is ideal for portability.
Now here's what I'm getting at: When you're on the road, at a meeting, or working in the field, you're probably not going to need all of the hardware of the Mac Pro, but only 2 USB ports? That sounds like a joke to me!
Say you meet someone at a cafe and you decide to transferring some files from your USB drive to his... That's it, you're done for USB ports. You can't even can't grab a charge for your phone, your ipad, plug in a digital camera or whatever because it only has 2 USB ports. And it really annoys me when I see these PC guys with laptops half the price of a MacBook and they're sitting there with all kinds of stuff plugged in. Notebooks like the Inspiron's and ASUS have 5 USB ports... FIVE!!!
So I ask you, "what's so pro about the MacBook Pro?" Having to constantly plug and unplug peripherals is quite amateur to me.

the “Pro” in MacBook Pro was in comparison to the “Pro-less” MacBook. If the two USB ports on a MacBook Pro don’t suffice for your needs, then you can either bring along a powered USB hub, or you can simply not get a MacBook Pro — get one of its competitors instead, which has the number of USB ports which you need.
I know I can get a USB hub, or better yet, I've been looking into a thunderbolt hub- I just wish I didn't have to sacrifice ports in Apple's conquest to make the thinnest laptop in existance.

I took a video on my iPhone and tried to email it it said it was too big to send? So i downloaded it to my macbook pro and tried to mail it to no avail? The macbook tells me the server won't let it through other mail goes through any ideas how to resize it or what it might take to send it?

I agree with LowLister, the best option for you to share the video online is to upload it to your online storage account for example : Box, Dropbox, SkyDrive (All of them provide free storage beginning from 2GB).
You can upload the files which you want to share in this online storage and then they have sharing options in which you'll will get the link of the file to be sent and send the email. You're good to go!
Tip : You can store multiple files for backup purposes.

Actually you could get student discount from apple and a 10% dicksmith with limited time and I think jb hi fi gives even better discount. But lets see what other people think?

  • MacBook Pro (mid-2010) keyboard backlight lags after 10.6.8 combo update

I'm one of those who take the extra time to perform major updates on my MacBook Pro very carefully. I always perform all the permissions and disk check/repairs, typically running something tried-and-true like AppleJack. I then always use the combined updater as opposed to the delta, fully downloading and applying it in Safe User Mode. So, I never run into the typical problems. That said...
Is anyone who has otherwise had a successful update to 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro with keyboard backlighting experienced a sudden lag-time with the backlight coming on when touching the touchpad or pressing a key?
There is a definitely perceptible 1-second-ish lag I'm experiencing and I'm hoping it will be corrected quickly with either a firmware fix or an update.

Same here, although I have a MBP mid-2009.
The 1-2s lag is VERY annoying if you've gotten used to the old instantaneous light-up with previous SL.
I've fired off a bug report to Apple - here's hoping they don't just bury their head in the sand and release a fix quickly (I also hope they don't have the same bug in Lion as well, I'll be getting that soon)...

  • Macbook Pro (March 2010) keyboard backlight failure

    Hi folks,
A couple of days back my almost mew (March 2010) 13 " Macbook Pro's keyboard backlights stopped working. I had just upgraded to OS X 10.6.4 the night before this happened.
However, today in the morning they came on for a few minutes, but they flickering like an old tubelight (or like a bulb does when the electric connection is weak). At this moment, they just arent working.
Could this be a hardware issue? Or maybe due to the OS upgrade? Any other users having a similar problem?
    Thanks.
    Abhi

I have had exactly the same symptoms described on the same computer -- including the 10.6.4 update. But I have a work around! Just press the V key! light comes back on as long as I hold down the V key. If I mess around with the V key (press it multiple times, the I can coax the keyboard backlight to stay on -- usually for a few minutes, but yesterday it worked all day (even turning the computer on and off several times)
Pressing other keys does nothing. I have been deleting all but the most useful keyboard shortcuts. I have had keyboard problems on computers before, but none where a one key seems to fix everything.
I called apple support, and they seem to think it is the light sensor. I don't think so as it dims and brightens the screen correctly. I can also use the dim and brighten function keys to change the keyboard lighting -- just so long as I use my V key trick.
    Weird.

  • Payment info about the macbook pro (ritena)

If i was to buy a macbook pro ritene display and buy it online would i have to pay full price or pay it off over a certain amount of time,

Yep. That appears to be the only option you have other than paying cash. There are other alternatives (e.g. credit cards [issued by your bank] with a lower interest that might be more suitable).
You could always look for a summer job to get a little extra cash — that might be your best option and save you from paying too much in interest, or the having to get a standard MBP instead.

  • MacBook Pro (Early 2008) Keyboard Backlight in Vista Boot Camp

    Hello,
I just spent several hours looking for an answere to my question, and came up with a few non-working answers. How can I turn off the keybaord backlight in Vista? The keyboard keys F3 and F4 decrease/increase the brightness, but do not turn it off. I read about F8 supposedly turning it off, but on my MBP this key is labled as Play/Pause, it does not affect the backlight. I even tried a little Tray Applet, that also fails to work on this MBP. Any ideas? Thanks!
    Rich

I have a 2006 MBP and a brand spanking new (summer 08) MPB. The 06 model could easily turn off the backlight with the dimmer keyboard keys. But on the newer models it works differently and there seems to be no way to turn it off completely. I HATE the backlight keys, especially when i am trying to watch a movie... its very distracting.... come on Apple!

  • Heading to Russia and wondering about the Macbook pro's care.

Hi, I will be heading to Russia this January and I was wondering if my mac would be fine in my bag if the weather will be bellow 40 degrees fahrenheit? Also what is the hottest temperature would it be fine in?

    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–24° to 45° C)
Good luck - we've a few Russian's on this board - maybe one of them will share their experiences.

  • When will the MacBook Pro be updated (Quad core coming soon?)

Hey! Just a quick question. I've been hearing rumours everywhere that a quad core MacBook Pro is on the way. Apparently Apple Genius' are now being trained on new MacBook Pros and there's been other rumours floating around.
Just wanted to know if anyone had any extra information as I think the MacBook Pro's are so sexy and I really want one, but should I wait? Quad Core sounds good!

Sorry, but no one outside of Apple knows anything reliable about future product releases. Anything anyone here would post would be pure speculation which isn't allowed here (the Discussions are for technical support on existing products). Whether any rumors the various sites report have any validity, your guess will be as good as ours.
And just for future use, questions about the MacBook Pro will best be posted in the forum for that model rather than here in the iMac area.
    Regards.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but display is sooo dark - like no backlight.  I think this is an LED screen.  Does anyone know the fix for this?

Hi all...  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but the display is very very dark.  A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light.  I think this model has an LED screen.  Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is?  Thank you sooooo much!

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 Backlight Keyboard Not Working?! Software Problem...

So my "MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011" backlight keyboard hasn't been working. I have tried LabTick today, doesn't fix anything. Even in high or low lighting situations (dispite the Adjust keyboard brightness in low light being off) doesn't like to go on. It doesn't give me a circle with a cross like it does with that box checked in day light. It shows on the screen the
16 dots fully light after hitting F6 fully, just it doesn't light up. I one time had to reset my Mac OS at the Apple Store, it fixed the problem, but when I restored with a time machine backup, it went back to this software problem. How can I fix this?! What is wrong with my OS? Mountain Lion? How can I fix this?!

If it does not detect the display automatically, try going to system preferences>displays, click detect displays.

You need to talk with the tax authorities in the countries to which you traveled and that of your home country. We are all end-users liek you and not Apple agents.

  • Anyone know how to use a 'home' and 'end' key on the Macbook pro keyboard?

I had a pc before, and the keyboard had home and end keys on the keyboard for quickly moving cursor to end or beginning of word or sentence.  I can't figure out if there is something like that on the Macbook pro.  It would be really helpful.  So does anyone know if there is those keys and if so what do i use?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks

see if any of this works for you
On a smaller keyboard, such as the wireless, or on portables, you can use fn- left arrow for home and fn- right arrow for end.
On a Mac, 'home and 'end' take you to the beginning and the end of document, respectively. Getting to the beginning or end of a line is done with cmd- leftarrow and cmd- rightarrow. Emacs shortcuts, such a ctrl-a and ctrl- e also work in most places, where the app is done right.
